With 65 novels, over 200 short stories, and over 400 million copies sold, Stephen King is one of the most prolific authors in modern literature. King has dabbled in numerous genres, including thriller, science fiction, fantasy, and most notably, horror. Some of his best books have been brought to the screen, and his responses have ranged from endorsing them to being deeply critical of them, most notably with Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of "The Shining." Many filmmakers have had the opportunity to bring King's stories to the big screen, the most recent filmmaker being Oz Perkins, director of "The Monkey," which is based on the short story of the same name originally published in a November 1980 issue of the adult magazine "Gallery" and featured in King's "Skeleton Crew" short story collection, published in 1985.

Alberg soon starts a relationship with librarian Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) as he solves a variety of murders and other crimes in the town. The show has had a notable guest star cast that includes Stana Katic, Erica Durance, and others. It was a good success that landed a second-season renewal.

Nicolas Cage's serial killer horror film of 2024, Longlegs, has a streaming release date. After the film's groundbreaking success, it rushed into digital services in August 2024. Now it's set to start streaming on February 14. Longlegs will be added to the Hulu library just in time for Valentine's Day. We don't know of a more polarizing film to celebrate this lovely holiday with, but we're guessing some horror fans will be excited as they have found the perfect reason to stay home and watch a movie with their loved one.
Directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, Longlegs stars Cage alongside modern horror queen Maika Monroe, as well as Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Dakota Daulby, and Kiernan Shipka. The film cost less than $10 million, but it made over $126 million, breaking several records in 2024. It was the highest-grossing indie film of the year, and director Osgood Perkins' most successful film to date. Longlegs was also well-received by critics,...

A third installment in the Orphan horror film series is currently in the works at Lionsgate. Isabella Fuhrman, who played the psychopathic Esther in the first two movies, recently offered some insight into the script for the upcoming Orphan 3.
"I've read the script, and while I don't want to give anything away, it's the only reason I would go back and do another one," Fuhrman told The Hollywood Reporter. "When they first said, 'We're going to make another one,' I was like, 'You guys are nuts!' But the script is so good. I was like, Ok! A hundred percent. This is a great idea, actually.' So I'm really excited for the fans of the franchise. It's funny to even say that because it wasn't a franchise when I signed onto it at nine years old. So I'm just really grateful that it has turned into something that is so much bigger.

Fox is sticking with murder, mystery, and intrigue by giving out a Season 2 renewal to their hit murder mystery series, Murder in a Small Town, a show based on the books by author L.R. Wright. It's no surprise that the show has become a hit for the network because crime series tend to be an easy go-to for TV audiences.
Per Deadline, Fox has renewed Murder in a Small Town for a second season. The series, which stars Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk, is based on the aforementioned Wright books. Of the nine books currently in the series, roughly four to five were used for the basis of Season 1, which means that there are three or four more books worth of mysteries left for viewers to dive into for the second season (and beyond).

Murder in a Small Town fans have an answer to a renewal! Is the Fox mystery series coming back for a second season?
The 2023 Hollywood strikes did a number on the TV networks, forcing many to adjust their schedules. Among those was Fox’s plans for Murder in A Small Town. The Canadian-made series premiered in September 2024 and notably only had an eight-episode first season.
The show did well in the ratings, not stellar numbers but respectable enough. That led to hopes of whether or not it could get a renewal. Thankfully, it’s confirmed as TVLine has reported Fox has indeed renewed the series for a second season. Brooke Bowman, EVP Of Darma Programming & Development, shared a statement on the news.

Fox’s cozy murder mystery series “Murder in a Small Town” will return to swoon and solve new murders for a second season. Fox Television Network renewed the part-romance/part-crime series for a second season on Thursday.
Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville”) and Rossif Sutherland (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) star in the drama, which is inspired by L.R. Wright’s Edgar-Award winning Karl Alberg book series. Initially, Murder in a Small Town began as a two-hour movie thirty years ago. Over the years, it grew into a combined series between Canada and Fox TV.
Murder in a Small Town Season 1 had its ups and downs as it tried to find its footing and establish itself as a murder mystery procedural.
While we think the series would have benefited from more episodes, it only had eight, so it’s time to rank and review its most memorable and least satisfying series moments.
Best Episode: Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 1 ( Kailey Schwerman/ Fox)
Maybe selecting Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 1 was a cop-out. However, having an extra thirty minutes helped flesh out the stories and introduce viewers to the heart of the series: Karl and Cassandra’s romance.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Murder in a Small Town season 1, episode 8, "Sleep While I Sing."Murder in a Small Town delivers a lovely romance between its leading Karl Alberg and Cassandra Lee characters, but the series cheapened the love story in the season finale. That being said, the Fox mystery series didn't have much choice if it wanted to wrap things up nicely, regardless of what comes of season 2. Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk play the leading love birds. Additionally, Murder in a Small Town broke an overused network romance TV trope by allowing Karl and Cass to dive into their relationship head-first in the pilot of the eight-episode season.
Still, it wouldn't be network TV or a proper romance without a bit of conflict. After experiencing doubts about his role as a law enforcement officer, Cassandra's worries come to a head when Gordon Murphy (Devon Sawa) abducts...

Fox’s new crime thriller, “Murder in a Small Town,” wrapped up its first season with a thrilling ending, and fans and network executives are discussing a possible second season. The season-ending episode not only concluded the central murder case but also reunited its main characters in an unexpected twist.
Executive Producer Jeff Wachtel noted that the conclusion, titled “Sleep While I Sing,” skillfully balanced the show’s crime story with the delicate relationship between Detective Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) and Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk). The episode saw the couple reconnecting after a difficult season, with Alberg publicly declaring his dedication to their relationship.
“We looked at every possibility for their story,” Wachtel added. “Cassandra was clear about her hesitation to date a police officer, which made their reunion even more meaningful.”
The finale effectively concluded the season’s serial killer narrative featuring Tommy Cummins (Noah Reid) while laying the groundwork for future developments.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Murder in a Small Town episode 5.
Fox's Murder in a Small Town promises a different kind of murder series, but episode 5 ditches the premise entirely and risks ruining the best part of the show. As a TV show based on a book (the Karl Alberg book series by L. R. Wright), Murder in a Small Town follows a different beat, evident in episode 5. Rossif Sutherland stars as Karl Alberg, the police chief for the small coastal town of Gibsons. If the actor's last name sounds familiar, it's because Murder in a Small Town has a touching Donald Sutherland connection: The Hunger Games actor is Sutherland's father, and also responsible for the adaptation.
Sutherland stars opposite Smallville's Kristin Kreuk, who plays Cassandra, Karl's love interest and a Gibsons resident. Cassandra gets involved in Karl's investigations in various ways as she is a local librarian and avidly engaged in the community.

Murder in a Small Town is one of the few procedurals that spends as much time developing the romance of their lead characters as it does on solving cases.
While some people love the cozy mystery vibe, others would prefer the series focus on developing stronger murder arcs.
Let’s discuss if combining both can be successful or if this is a recipe for disaster.
(James Dimmock/ Fox) Kristin Kreuk and Rossif Sutherland Teased Karl and Cassandra’s Relationship as the Main Draw
Kristin Kreuk and Rossif Sutherland teased that the murders are only part of the show. The scenic coastal town pulls audiences in, and many are shocked by how many murders piled up along the coastline.
The series is also about love, community, and this small town. It examines the heartbeats behind the murders as the two fall in love and see how these cases and their personal lives affect their relationship.

Fox’s Murder in a Small Town has just gotten underway, but it’s taking an aspect few could expect in some big guest stars! See which Smallville co-star is coming on the next episode!
Based on the novels by L.R. Wright, Murder in a Small Town focuses on Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland), a former big-city cop who relocates to the small town of Gibsons, British Columbia. He figures it’ll be a nice and quiet job as the local police chief only to start uncovering crimes in the town, including murder.
Alberg does get help from his fellow cops and a relationship with local librarian Cassandra Mitchell (Kristen Kreuk), who he starts dating. While it appeared the show was just a standard mystery, it’s getting attention thanks to some surprisingly high-profile guest stars.
The 90-minute premiere had Oscar nominee James Cromwell as an elderly resident who’s suspected of a dark murder.

In the horror film Orphan First: Kill, Isabelle Fuhrman reprises her role as Leena, a 31-year-old woman with a rare hormonal disorder that makes her look like a little girl. This film serves as a precursor to 2009's Orphan, where Leena embedded herself in the Coleman family as a young girl named Esther.
The story went into detail about how she adopted this persona two years before and ended up in an American adoption agency. However, just before Leena took on this new identity by joining the Albrights, a dark twist unfolded that proved she wasn't First Kill's most sadistic villain.

“Murder in a Small Town” is part romance, part crime procedural and all kinds of small-town cozy in between. Starring Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville”) and Rossif Sutherland (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), the new Fox drama transports viewers to the quiet coastal Canadian town of Gibsons and feels like the TV-ification of the “cozy mystery” trend that’s been so popular in online book communities in recent years.

A proliferation of “mini rooms” was a key stumbling block to resolving the 2023 Writers Guild of America work stoppage and the new three-year deal included minimum staffing requirements to end the Hollywood writers strike.
But the Canadian TV industry apparently hasn’t got the memo about new writers rooms staffing minimums, judging by the Writers Guild of Canada’s latest equity, diversity and inclusion report. The 2024 edition points to a first-ever decline in the number of TV episodes ordered by Canadian-based linear TV and streaming platforms, and so work for Wgc members.
And a continuing use of mini rooms north of the border, where small writer teams pump out full size TV series, is partly to blame. “This statistic, along with a steady decline in the number of Wgc members working on Canadian TV series, are the result of the contraction of the Canadian domestic audiovisual sector and the adoption...
