When I first saw the trailer for A Knight's War, I thought, "How did I miss this release?" It's a Canadian film which came out February 11 and is now available to stream on Prime Video. I immediately turned it on and thoroughly enjoyed this dark fantasy epic set against bleak landscapes full of horrific monsters.
This movie includes a lot of familiar fantasy tropes: there's a prophecy, a quest, a young girl given up in sacrifice, and the end of the world as the consequence for failure. The movie does a great job of presenting these well-worn ideas in intriguing ways, so my interest never waned.
The Chosen One is prophesied to be a young girl with red hair who cannot burn. She is revealed when her father tries to burn her and her mother alive. William (Matthew Ninaber) and Bhodie (Jeremy Ninebar), two brothers who are both knights, search for her.

A Knight’s War is the new film from writer/director Matthew Ninaber, who you may recognize as the director of Death Valley and Transference, or as the actor who played the title creature in Psycho Goreman.
This time out he’s given us a dark take on sword and sorcery, the story of a knight named Bhodie. Sworn to save The Chosen One believed to be enigmatic Avalon. Seemingly defeated at the last moment, his half-brother William (Matthew Ninaber) stabs him, sending him into The Realm of the Fallen, or in simpler terms Hell, to return her to our world.
Upon arriving there he’s forced to make a deal with the entity known as The Keeper. That done, he quickly finds Avalon, and the objective...

One of 2020’s goriest horror films was director Gabriel Carrer‘s For the Sake of Vicious, co-directed withReese Eveneshen. Now, the filmmaker is back with a solo effort, this time with the gory giallo-inspired slasher Death Cycle, and we’ve got exclusive images introducing the film’s maniac and his carnage.
The upcoming horror film is described as “a mix of classic giallo themes with the modern slasher genre.”
In Death Cycle, “After the death of her sister, a woman is visited by a man looking to solve a series of murders by a motorcycle-riding maniac. As their shared fear escalates, the killer’s rampage continues in the city, leaving them both questioning who the real monster is.”
While the fresh batch of images below don’t give away much, they do give us a good glimpse at the motorcycle riding maniac and enough viscera splattered across pavement to indicate an ultra-violent slasher ahead.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into Death Valley. On the one hand writer/director Matthew Ninaber also wrote and directed the underwhelming Transference and Extraction Day. On the other hand, he was the guy inside the suit of the titular creature in one of my favourite films of the year, Psycho Goreman. So he should know a thing or two about making a practical monster movie, right?
Death Valley opens, not in the California desert as you might expect, somewhere in Eastern Europe as an unknown man flees an underground research facility going into lockdown. This leaves Dr. Chloe (Kristen Kaster) trapped inside. She sends out a distress call and grabs a fire axe to deal with whatever it is that we hear in the darkness.

When we first see the doctor, Chloe (Kristen Kaster), the alarm bells are already ringing. Literally. An evacuation order is sounding throughout the base, and she and a colleague are running for the exit. When he colleague falls, she keeps on going. Whatever lies behind them has terrified them both. But at the last minute, an unexpected incident causes her to fall short. Trapped, alone, and with only hours left to save her vital research, she sends out an urgent request for help.

Unbeknownst to the latter, that’s about to come to the end, as Beckett’s wife has a baby on the way and he plans to settle down in a less dangerous occupation. It’s not Alien, but Bravo squad’s tangle with a mucus-coated scarer will keep you from dozing off after the pub
Oscars are probably not on the cards, but this is a decently mounted creature feature by Canadian director Matthew Ninaber, which has enough mucus-coated hijinks to make it worth 90 post-pub minutes. A team of mercenaries are airlifted into the country of “Bosvania” to storm a bioresearch compound and rescue a scientist who appears to be the sole remaining staff member. Nice guy Beckett (Jeremy Ninaber) and trash-talking sniper Marshall (Ethan Mitchell) are on Bravo squad, tasked with shielding Alpha from a unit of local militia in the surrounding woods. But “shit” goes south, and the pair are forced to take refuge inside, where something has been painting the walls a nice shade of scarlet.
