Lilo and Stitch trailer nearly breaks Disney record
Disney unveiled the Lilo and Stitch trailer on March 12, and in just 24 hours it amassed 158 million views, which was the second most for a live-action Disney film, behind only 2019's photorealistic The Lion King. It ranked as the No. 1 trend on Twitter and YouTube. Does that bode well for the film's box office when it's released on May 23? Well, The Lion King remake ended up grossing $1.66 billion worldwide.
Lilo and Stitch, based on the 2002 animated film, is about a friendship between a Hawaiian girl and a fugitive alien. It's directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Chris Sanders, Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, and newcomer Maia Kealoha.

‘…‘Karsh’, an innovative businessman and grieving widower, builds a device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud.
“Installed at his own controversial state-of-the-art cemetery, the device enables him and his clients to watch their departed loved ones decompose in real time.
“Karsh’s morbidly revolutionary business is on the verge of breaking into the international mainstream when several graves within his cemetery, including that of his wife, are vandalized and nearly destroyed.
“While he struggles to uncover a clear motive for the attack, the mystery of who wrought this havoc, and why, drives him to re-evaluate his business, marriage, and fidelity to his late wife’s memory, and pushes him to new beginnings…”

What’s going to be this year’s “Anora”? As the Cannes Film Festival rapidly approaches, that’s the question for artistic director Thierry Fremaux and movie buffs around the world.
A month before Cannes Film Festival’s press conference, the official selection is still very much a work in progress, with little reliable information filtering through about which movies have already been invited. In fact, as of Friday — despite the volume of splashy prediction stories — it appears that only three films have so far been given a golden ticket to compete in Cannes. Variety can reveal that one of them is Jim Jarmusch’s anticipated “Father Mother Sister Brother“ starring Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver and Tom Waits.
The last edition of the festival, which Fremaux had warned would be slightly weaker due to the impact of the double Hollywood strikes, proved to be anything but. Headlined by Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning “Anora,...

The year 2024 was a significant one for horror movies, highlighted by a successful awards season and dominance by the genre at the box office. Notably, the Oscars recognized four films within the genre, signaling a growing appreciation for horror’s artistic merit.
The Academy Awards have historically marginalized horror films, with The Silence of the Lambs in 1991 a notable exception. Its “Big Five” sweep — Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Adapted Screenplay — remains a unique achievement. However, the recent nominations of films like The Substance and Nosferatu indicate a growing willingness to acknowledge the genre, signaling a potential change in the awards landscape.
The ‘Silence of the Lambs’ cast and production winners hold their Oscars at the 64th Academy Awards in 1992. The film won five Oscars.
Horror at the Academy Awards was first recognized in 1974, when William Friedkin’s groundbreaking The Exorcist received a remarkable 10 nominations including Best Picture. While it won just two awards,...

"I'm paranoid now... things are getting weird." Janus Films + Sideshow have revealed the full official US trailer for The Shrouds, the latest feature film made by genre mastermind David Cronenberg. This already premiered and opened in most other countries last year, finally getting a US debut this spring. The Shrouds centers on Karsh, a Toronto businessman. Inconsolable since the death of his wife, he invents GraveTech – a revolutionary and controversial technology that enables the living to monitor their dear departed in their shrouds. One night, multiple graves, including that of Karsh's wife, are desecrated. Karsh sets out to track down the perpetrators. It's inspired by the idea of having a permanent connection with the dead, but goes beyond that as Cronenberg explains his own "shrouds" are "cinematic devices" and calls this as "cemetery cinema." Starring Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Guy Pearce, and Sandrine Holt. The mysterious, macabre thriller about the...

The Shrouds: "In an eerie, deceptively placid near-future, a techno-entrepreneur named Karsh (Cassel) has developed a new software that will allow the bereaved to bear witness to the gradual decay of loved ones dead and buried in the earth. While Karsh is still reeling from the loss of his wife (Kruger) from cancer—and falling into a peculiar sexual relationship with his wife’s sister (also Kruger)—a spate of vandalized graves utilizing his “shroud” technology begins to put his enterprise at risk, leading him to uncover a potentially vast conspiracy. Written following the death of the director’s wife, the new film from David Cronenberg is both a profoundly personal reckoning with grief and a descent into noir-tinged dystopia, set in an ominous world of self-driving cars, data theft, and A.I. personal assistants. Offering Cronenberg’s customary balance of malevolence and wit, The Shrouds is a sly...

David Cronenberg has said that his new film The Shrouds – which has been making the festival rounds lately (you can read what JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray thought of it Here) – was originally intended to be a Netflix TV series, but the streamer dropped it after paying him to write the pilot episode. The Shrouds will be reaching theatres in New York and Los Angeles on April 18th, then will expand nationwide on April 25th. ‘The Shrouds’ Trailer: Vincent Cassel Is Haunted by the Search for Home in David Cronenberg’s Latest
Vincent Cassel is exploring grief the David Cronenberg way in the highly-anticipated drama “The Shrouds.”
Cassel stars as widower Karsh who creates a program called GraveTech to allow for mourners to monitor their late loved ones’ decay via shrouds. Yet when multiple graves, including that of Karsh’s wife (Diane Kruger), are desecrated, he has to find the perpetrators. “The Brutalist” star Guy Pearce and Sandrine Holt also are among the cast.
Cronenberg previously told Variety that he wrote the film while “experiencing the grief of the loss of my wife, who died seven years ago. It was an exploration for me because it was not just a technical exercise, it was an emotional exercise.”
Cassel’s Karsh is a stand-in of sorts for writer/director Cronenberg, who cited how the character has a “perverse, morbid, grotesque” way of grieving by watching his late wife’s body decompose in her grave.

Kate Hudson doesn’t just play a rockstar—she lives like one. ‘I like when life is sort of spontaneous. I like the unexpected. I’m comfortable in that!’ she once said, and that same free-spirited energy radiated from her shimmering, fringed ensemble at the 9th Annual Love Rocks concert. Blending boho-chic with stage-ready glamour, her head-turning look was the perfect fusion of fashion and attitude.
Alex Edelman, Amy Schumer, Susie, Essman, and Tracy Morgan hosted the concert at the Beacon Theatre to benefit God’s Love We Deliver, a non-profit that provides medically tailored meals to sick people who cannot cook or shop for themselves.
The night kicked off with a performance by Alicia Keys, and later, Kate Hudson, who released her debut studio album Glorious last year, graced the stage to deliver a breathtaking set.

Film and literary history are rich with examples of the wild things people would do for love.Romeo and Julietsees cursed young lovers choose death instead of being separated. Troy has nations go to war over Helen (Diane Kruger). The John Wick franchise follows Keanu Reeves's assassin as he massacres essentially everyone for the love of a woman and a dog. Chris (Robin Williams) broke into Hell for Annie (Annabella Sciorra) in What Dreams May Come. In Novocaine, an action comedy from Significant Other directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, love causes a man to risk his whole life for love, with one catch: thanks to a useful but dangerous medical condition, he can’t feel pain. It’s a gory, bonkers action-comedy premise anchored by a set of strong performances and a surprisingly poignant meet-cute, making for a wildly memorable action outing.

It’s hard to state which movie singularly defined Quentin Tarantino’s career, given the director's exceptional career at producing cinematic splendor, to say one film defined it is like saying a single ant defines the colony. Up until 2012’s Django Unchained was released, Tarantino’s highest-earning film was 2009’s Inglourious Basterds.
Now the war film stands as his third-highest rated and his third-highest earner. Considered one of the best war movies, whose impressive cast stands up to this day, Inglourious Basterds can now be enjoyed on streaming, and it's currently available on Paramount+.
What Is The Movie About?
Inglourious Basterds follows US Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) who in the wake of Nazi Germany’s takeover of France and the merciless pursuit by Austrian SS Officer Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Infiltrating the Reich-controlled France, Raine and his commandos work behind enemy lines breaking Nazi morale whilst removing scalps from their heads.

Fremantle is readying to unleash ‘Sandokan’ onto industry insiders during next week’s London TV Screenings.
“It’s simply a great epic adventure, based on a known IP. It’s ‘Poldark’ meets ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’,” enthuses CEO Commercial and International Jens Richter, promising action, adventure and some good old-fashioned pirating.
Starring Can Yaman (“Daydreamer”), Ed Westwick (“Gossip Girl”) and John Hannah (“Spartacus: Blood and Sand”), it’s based on the series of novels by Emilio Salgari and produced by Fremantle’s Italian content powerhouse Lux Vide. Set in the mid-1800s, it heads to a place inhabited by native Dayak tribes yet dominated by British law. Sandokan is used to fighting for his survival, but one thing catches him by surprise: love.
“There’s a portion of romance,” admits Richter. With each episode set in a different environment, “Sandokan” will “fit the needs of the market perfectly,” he adds.

It’s all quiet on the Berlin deals front as the sales agencies wind down their operations at the European Film Market. By Monday, many offices and stands were almost completely deserted. Deals are being reported but it’s more of a “steady flow” than a gush. That said, most sales agents remain happy that the EFM continues to be an “efficient” place to do business.
AGC Studios’ Stuart Ford tells Variety, “Overseas business has been very solid. International buyers are taking their time, but we’ve been seeing a steady flow of deals closing and fully expect that trend to continue apace, particularly on Bill Condon’s ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ and Noah Hawley’s ‘Nowhere Fast.’”
Oliver Berben, head of German production and distribution powerhouse Constantin Film, comments, “The market at this year’s EFM is okay. It’s a bit quieter than other recent markets that we’ve seen,...

While the official lineup of films at the Cannes Film Festival taking place in May won’t be made public until mid-April, there are already some early rumblings of what projects we should expect to see on that list and there are plenty of reasons to get excited.
That group of potential entries as compiled by Deadline includes directorial debuts with Kristen Stewart‘s “The Chronology Of Water” (still a chance it might not be completed in time), and Scarlett Johansson‘s “Eleanor The Great.”

Exclusive: With one of Europe’s three flagship film festivals approaching half way stage, minds are already beginning to focus on the shape of the next two: Cannes and Venice. The former will be upon us before we know it.
As ever, there is no shortage of anticipated movies in contention. Indeed, one leading producer we spoke to remarked that 2025 is looking like “a particularly tough year, a much stronger year than 2024”. The surprise to us during our research for this piece is just how many big movies look like they will push to fall rather than launch on the Croisette. That’s not to say that Cannes won’t be box office. It remains the gold standard. The importance of both Cannes and Venice as launchpads is at an all-time high. Just look at how many Oscar nominees now start out at those two festivals — five of this year...

Germany’s film industry may have been hit hard by the economic slowdown, resulting in an overall gloomy outlook, but it’s still celebrating the biggest number ever of local films and co-productions at this year’s Berlinale and looking forward to a diverse lineup of 2025 releases, among them a number of high-profile sequels.
Compounding the sector’s overall predicament was the collapse of the federal government in November, forcing snap elections scheduled for Feb. 23. The political crisis left an ambitious reform of the country’s federal film funding system only partially implemented and a matter to be tackled by the next government.
The industry nevertheless welcomed the current government’s last-minute extension and increase of two key funding incentives in December that has ensured planning security for producers, studio operators and production service providers.
In the meantime, the local film community is cheering the strong showing of German titles at the Berlin Film Festival.

Tiffany Haddish was among the many celebrities who graced the front row at the Alice + Olivia New York Fashion Week presentation. Proving she was worthy of a front-row spot, she dazzled the crowd in her bright yellow ensemble, bringing warmth and sunshine to the otherwise chilly winter night.
Wearing yellow is sometimes challenging since it can make one stand out and attract attention. Haddish, however, appears unbothered as she strikes a confident attitude outside the Highline Stages.
I thought it was wise of the actress to pair the yellow dress with black pumps, creating a chic and fashionable ensemble ideal for a party!

So a feature film it is, and Sideshow and Janus Films have acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the film, with their plan being to give it a theatrical release sometime in the spring of 2025. We don’t know a specific release date for this one yet, but a new teaser trailer has arrived online and you can check it out in the embed above. We saw the previous teaser trailer eight months ago.
Pyramide Distribution will be giving the film a theatrical release in France on April 30th.

One of the least-expected, most welcome, and coolest surprises on Star Trek: Discovery was the ongoing, recurring presence of David Cronenberg as the mysterious character, Dr. Kovich, who first popped up in season three of the show. Cronenberg has acted on occasion over the years but is far, far better known as the director of such features as The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome, The Dead Zone, The Fly, Dead Ringers, Crash, Eastern Promises, Cosmopolis, and Crimes of the Future. And now he’s back in the director’s chair for The Shrouds, which, nearly a year after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, will open in the United States on April 25.
Sideshow and Janus Films, which will release the film, just dropped a brief synopsis and a short teaser trailer. The synopsis reads, “Karsh (Vincent Cassel) is a prominent businessman. Inconsolable since the death of his wife, he invents GraveTech, a...

Cate Blanchett “never, ever” thought she “could work in the film industry.”
“I was resigned, happily, to a career in theater. I didn’t think I was that girl. There was a sense women had a certain ‘shelf life’ in the film industry and a certain type of women got to parade on the screen and others didn’t,” she said at the Rotterdam Film Festival Saturday.
Watching Visconti’s “The Stranger” awakened her love for the cinema.
“Our French teacher took us to see it. I learnt more about cinema than I did about French. I don’t think I’ve seen it since, but I was hypnotized by the cinematic storytelling. Also, we grew up in such an incredible moment in Australian cinema-making. I remember watching ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock,’ ‘Sweetie,’ ‘An Angel at My Table.’ I thought: ‘Maybe I will be able to step into that frame...

"How dark are you willing to go?" Janus Films has revealed another brand new US teaser trailer for The Shrouds, the latest feature film made by genre mastermind David Cronenberg. This originally premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival last year, earning mixed reviews from critics at the fest. "The Shrouds centers on Karsh, a prominent businessman. Inconsolable since the death of his wife, he invents GraveTech – a revolutionary and controversial technology that enables the living to monitor their dear departed in their shrouds. One night, multiple graves, including that of Karsh's wife, are desecrated. Karsh sets out to track down the perpetrators." It's inspired by the idea of having a permanent connection with the dead, but goes beyond that as Cronenberg explains his own "shrouds" are "cinematic devices" and calls this as "cemetery cinema." Starring Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Guy Pearce, and Sandrine Holt. The mysterious, macabre thriller about the...

Action icon Liam Neeson is headed to Max...but he doesn’t remember that he’s an action icon. The Taken star leads 2011’s Unknown, which finds the acclaimed actor taking the lead as a man who, after waking up from a coma, doesn’t remember who he is. But, even stranger, no one else remembers him either. And another man is claiming to be who he thinks he is. While that may have made the movie sound a little confusing, it’s really not, with the movie allowing Neeson to leap from a frightened everyman to the grizzled action star we’ve all come to know and love.

After welcoming in April Pierre Branco, former country manager for Warner Bros Discovery in France, Benelux and Africa, as its new CEO in April, the company is rebranding as Studio TF1, reflecting its expanded global reach and ambition. The company, which was previously involved in distribution in cinemas via its partnership with French studio Ugc, will now be fully moving into theatrical distribution starting in 2026 as part of its mandate to ramp up film production and distribution.
“In this market which is undergoing radical transformation and consolidation, we’re convinced that it’s important to emerge, to have an image that speaks for itself, a name that speaks for itself, and also to be associated with solidity, with a partner with whom we want to work,...

Quick Links Bloom Didn't Like the Sound of Pirates of the Caribbean Bloom Originally Auditioned For Faramir in The Lord of the Rings Bloom First Met a Lord of the Rings Cast Member on His Flight to New Zealand
Orlando Bloom's career really took off with The Lord of the Rings, shortly followed by Pirates of the Caribbean. Although both were fantasy, his roles as Legolas and Will Turner were vastly different and showed a range of his performing skills. Each franchise was spread over a number of years, allowing Bloom to take on other work in between. In 2004, he appeared in the epic historical war film Troy alongside Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, and fellow Lord of the Rings actor Sean Bean. 2013 took him to a crime-thriller called Zulu, which also starred Forest Whitaker, before reprising his role as Legolas and performing in the second Hobbit movie, The Desolation of Smaug,...

Disney has created massive blockbuster brands throughout their many years in Hollywood, from their massive Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to the acquisition of Lucasfilms, which included the Indiana Jones character. The legendary explorer has had an interesting past few years, with James Mangold's swan song for the character, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, not making the waves that it should have critically or at the box office. Luckily, the Indiana Jones video game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, brought the character back into the good graces of the audience and debuted as a smash hit. Indiana Jones is a character who will remain in pop culture forever due to the original trilogy of classics and Harrison Ford's iconic portrayal. However, if audiences are looking for an alternative to Indiana Jones, whether looking for something new or even more of an adventure, they can look...

Quentin Tarantino is known for his gritty dialogues, over-the-top characters, non-linear storytelling, and geeky cinema references that only an avid movie lover like Tarantino himself could think to infuse into his storytelling. As Tarantino’s reputation grows as a filmmaker, he is widely regarded as one of the key practitioners of postmodernism in cinema. We all know the evil of the Nazis and the horrors of the Holocaust in the context of history. But Tarantino allows himself to dissect the grand narrative of events and crafts a new truth, presenting a cool “Jewish vengeance” story rather...

Norman Reedus is a name every The Walking Dead fan knows by heart. His role as Daryl Dixon, the rugged, crossbow-slinging survivalist, turned him into one of TV’s most beloved characters.
But what makes his story even more ravishing is how his paycheck prospered over the years. From earning less than a night out’s worth of cash in Season 2 to becoming one of the highest-paid actors on television, the actor’s quest is nothing short of a blockbuster itself.
