Alejandro G. Iñárritu may be currently shooting his latest starry big screen spectacle, an as-yet-untitled film for Warner Bros. led by Tom Cruise, but the Oscar-winning director is also delving back into his filmmaking past.
In a new book, Iñárritu will explore the production of his debut feature “Amores Perros,” the critically acclaimed crime thriller that first bowed in 2000 in Cannes, would be nominated for an Academy Award and — perhaps most importantly — heralded the arrival of a new master of modern cinema.
Published by Mack on the 25th anniversary of “Amores Perros'” release, the book — also entitled “Amores Perros” — features unseen on-set photography, storyboards and stills from the making-of by storyboard artist Fernando Llanos, Iñárritu’s handwritten notes and scene breakdowns. Meanwhile, alongside a new text by Iñárritu himself, it will include contributions by director Walter Salles (whose “I’m Still Here” recently won the Oscar for international film), award-winning novelists Jorge Volpi and Wendy Guerra,...

Netflix's streaming algorithm often highlights some questionable titles on its weekly ranking charts. However, most horror titles that make their way to these rankings have something substantial to offer. For example, Maika Monroe's overlooked "Watcher" became a modest hit on Netflix last month, while Mark Mylod's horror-comedy "The Menu" also got a lot of love back in February. This is not a subversion of established trends by any means; horror has consistently made bank at the box office as of late, with more folks giving this genre a fair chance. Even with titles that are streaming-only, there are a wide variety of options to choose from, with different shades of horror underlining the dynamic nature of the genre.
Keeping this in mind, it is no surprise that a film like "Talk to Me" is currently climbing up Netflix's Top 10 charts. An A24 production that grossed $91.9 million worldwide against a $4.5 million budget,...

I love it when a horror movie surprises me. There’s something intoxicating about a horror film that subverts expectations and goes to unexpected places. When filmmakers defy convention, their output becomes exponentially more immersive, making the viewing experience much more dynamic for the audience. Netflix just added a movie like that. A film that really caught me off guard and grabbed me by the throat. I’m talking about Michael and Danny Philippou’s breakout hit, Talk to Me.
The streamer just added the film to their catalog on March 28, 2025, and it’s already cracked the top ten, landing at #5 overall. It’s also currently the most-watched horror film on Netflix.
Danny and Michael Philippou came to prominence with their YouTube channel RackaRacka. The twin brothers gained notoriety and built their follower count by posting catchy, funny horror shorts. The success of their channel paved the way for their...

Ready to “Bring Her Back?”
The sophomore feature from Danny and Michael Philippou, which re-teams them with A24, arrives in theaters on May 30. And we have the absolutely terrifying new trailer, which you can watch below – if you dare.
https://youtu.be/kBskrYZfhw8 https://youtu.be/kBskrYZfhw8
“Bring Her Back” stars Sally Hawkins, as a woman who is seemingly attempting to resurrect her own child through the body of children who she is adopting. The trailer isn’t exactly clear, in a wonderful way – too many horror movie trailers give every plot detail away. This trailer is, thankfully, big on mood and atmosphere. Something very witchy – and very wrong – seems to be going on and it is an extremely effective, unsettling trailer.
Along with “Bring Her Back,” A24 announced that the Philippous would return for a sequel to “Talk to Me,” teased as “Talk 2 Me,” although details have yet to be revealed.

YouTube sensations-turned-talented directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou made their dazzling feature film debut when they helmed the chilling and deeply unnerving 2023 supernatural horror knockout Talk to Me, which centers on a grieving teenager struggling with the death of her mother who becomes obsessed with communicating with the spirit world after contacting the other side through an embalmed and severed hand, leading to a terrifying entity targeting the young woman.
Lauded for its refreshing screenplay, gruesome visual effects, and unrelenting suspense, Talk to Me took audiences by storm upon its frightening premiere and swiftly became A24's highest-grossing horror film and a certified critical success, with many appreciating the unique and hair-raising twist the filmmaking brothers gave the possession trope. “You’re not yourself when you’re high.” One could almost write it off as a Reagan-era “War on Drugs” cliché if it were not so painfully true. Australian twin brothers Danny and Michael Philippou’s debut feature film Talk To Me (2023) literalizes this saying to horrific effect in its riveting and strikingly original take on the demonic possession horror subgenre.
Talk to Me is reminiscent of It Follows in its depiction of isolated teens navigating all too adult horrors with little to no adult support in an uncanny yet psychologically familiar, if not literally accurate, depiction of adolescence. Featuring an effective ensemble cast, it focuses on the relationships between Mia (Sophie Wilde), her longtime friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen), Jade’s boyfriend and their mutual friend Daniel (Otis Dhanji), and Jade’s younger brother Riley (Joe Bird).
Mia, the protagonist and, ultimately, tragic figure of the film, is marked by loneliness and quiet desperation.

John Goodman has reportedly sustained a hip injury while filming alongside Tom Cruise in a new Warner Bros. project directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. The incident briefly paused production, but Goodman is expected to make a full recovery, allowing filming to resume soon.
A Brief Setback in Cruise’s Latest Project
The untitled film, currently being shot in the UK, is Iñárritu’s first English-language project since The Revenant (2015) and boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the film has been generating buzz, especially as Cruise’s first collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery since signing a development deal with the studio in early 2024.
According to Deadline, the injury occurred last week at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, where Goodman reportedly slipped while blocking a scene. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirmed the incident,...

A24 has become known for its experimental cinema, especially in the horror genre. From the slow-burning horror of Hereditary to the unsettling folk horror of Midsommar, A24 has built a reputation for psychological and visually striking horror films. But Talk to Me takes a different approach with a bleaker film that explores A24’s common themes without being overly arsty.
Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, Talk to Me is classic A24, mixing supernatural horror with social commentary about grief. Yet, unlike other A24 horrors, it refuses to get lost in dreaminess and instead delivers a sharp reality about grief and addiction. And with a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score and a March 28th Netflix release, it’s about to take hold of an even wider audience.

Babygirl, the A24 Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson bawdy office romance movie, will be streaming on Max on April 25 after a 121-theatrical day window.
That’s a very a long robust window that no exhibitor can complain about.
The R-rated boss-in-love-with-an-intern movie opened on Christmas Day and went on to make $28.1M domestic, $63.8M worldwide off a $20M production cost. Despite the bawdy nature of the pic, A24 booked the movie in theaters over the holiday season as there’s always room for a hard-r play at the Christmas time box office. Bodies Bodies Bodies filmmaker Halina Reijn directed, produced and wrote the feature.
Babygirl made its world premiere at Venice, and went on to gather Best Actress nominations for Kidman at the Golden Globes and Gotham Awards (Outstanding Lead Performance). Kidman was also named Best Actress at the National Board of Review and received the Volpi Cup at Venice for Best Actress.

John Goodman sustained a hip injury during the production of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s latest film starring Tom Cruise, which has delayed filming in the U.K. for Warner Bros, Variety has confirmed.
“Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
Variety exclusively reported in October that production for Iñárritu’s untitled project was to kick off in the U.K. in November. The film is the director’s first English-language movie since 2016’s “The Revenant,” which earned Leonardo DiCaprio his first and only Oscar. Iñárritu also serves as producer and penned the script with Sabina Berman and “Birdman” co-writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris. Plot details remain under wraps.

John Goodman has been injured during the production of Warner Bros and Legendary’s Alejandro González Iñárritu movie, which is filming in the UK.
A Warner Bros Pictures spokesperson told us: “Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury. He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
We understand Goodman slipped during the past week while blocking a scene at the UK’s Pinewood Studios and was taken to hospital for treatment. We understand it led to filming being stopped for two days. It is described to us by sources as a relatively “minor injury” and the 72-year-old actor is expected back on set Monday.

A24’s newest horror thriller Bring Her Backhas received its first teaser trailer, providing fans with a preview of what to expect from Talk to Me filmmaking duo’s next directorial feature. The movie will be led by Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins, who’s best known for her acclaimed roles in 2013’s Blue Jasmine and 2017’s The Shape of Water.
The Bring Her Back teaser shows a series of haunting and intense short clips, which effectively set up the tone and vibe of the upcoming horror movie. It also features a glimpse of Hawkins’ unnamed character, who can be seen with bloody hands. The video also seemingly teases the story’s occult aspects, as one of the clips included two characters standing inside a circle. Babygirl Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Nicole Kidman, Harris Dickinson, Antonio Banderas, and Sophie Wilde.
Director: Halina Reijn
Babygirl Movie Review (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
What’s Good: Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson are amazing performers, and they really sell the ideas of their two characters meeting to be different people, only with each other.
What’s Bad: The film lacks any sort of meaningful catharsis, and even when some of the last lines of dialogue try to paint a transformation, it doesn’t feel satisfying; it feels forced.
Loo Break: The intimate scenes are there to shock some audience members, but they get repetitive at one point, so there’s your break.
Watch or Not?: Watch Babygirl only if you’re a huge Nicole Kidman fan. Other than that, this is a pass.
Language: English (with subtitles).
Available On: Theaters, VOD
Runtime: 115 Minutes.

In 2022, filmmakers Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, aka the duo sometimes known RackaRacka took the horror world by storm with their A24 supernatural horror “Talk To Me,” which introduced most audiences to actress Sophie Wilde and impressed many a legendary filmmaker including Peter Jackson. That film did so well—$92.2 million off a $4.5 million budget at the global box office and surpassed “Hereditary” as A24’s highest-grossing horror film domestically— that A24 quickly snatched them up for their next film, “Bring Her Back.”

Edward Berger, hot from his double-whammy Best Film and Outstanding British Film wins for Conclave at the Ee BAFTA Film Awards, wanted to stop by the Searchlight after-party at Soho House’s Greek Street to laud Rising Star winner David Jonsson.
“He’s not a show-off,” an impressed Berger tells me after greeting Jonsson.
“[It] tells you a lot. Feet on the ground, incredibly laid back and I wanted to congratulate him,” Berger adds as he watches the Rye Lane and Alien: Romulus actor being feted by a group that included Olivia Homan, his agent at United Talent, and Ellie Norton his publicist at Track Publicity.
Berger notes that he was taken by a comment Jonsson made during his acceptance speech.
“Star? I don’t know, but rising, I guess,” was the Jonsson line that Berger favored.

Years ago, Gus Van Sant’s “To Die For” cast Nicole Kidman as a young woman, who craved fame and validation. It showed her character being desired for her conventionally admirable female attributes like gentility and innocence. While this satire criticized conventions with a tongue-in-cheek approach, “Babygirl” (2024) defies them with its clever script. It shows Kidman as a powerful CEO amid an affair with her young, male intern. The script explores desire from Kidman’s character’s perspective by examining her personal and professional lives.
Although it centers around their secretive sexual relationship, it isn’t merely about the act itself but what it means to her in the context of pleasure and authenticity. Dutch actress Halina Reijn has written and directed this film, which also stars Harris Dickinson, Antonio Banderas, and Sophie Wilde. Find the ending and themes explained here.

While Babygirl, one of A24's highest-grossing movies, presents the surface-level narrative of a high-powered CEO's forbidden affair, a closer look reveals a chilling possibility: Esme (Sophie Wilde), Romy's seemingly submissive assistant, may have orchestrated the entire Babygirl's age gap affair.
This wild theory on TikTok suggests that Esme plays a dominant role in her relationship with Samuel and has him initiate the affair with Romy for her own gain. This theory starts with Esme being responsible for Romy entering the mentorship program. This would be characteristic of the movie's power dynamics extending way beyond kink and even past the main characters, defying expectations to make Babygirl an erotic thriller audiences did not expect.

Babygirl Worldwide Box Office: 4th Friday Update ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Nicole Kidman is showcasing her star power at the box office as her film Babygirl becomes one of the highest-grossing films of A24. The R-rated movie was released in the theatres along with Nosferatu and A Complete Unknown on Christmas Day in 2024. It has also been in the news for its erotic theme. Scroll below for the deets.
The erotic thriller was directed by Halina Reijn, featuring Kidman in the lead role as the hot-shot CEO who puts her career and family on the line as she begins an affair with her intern. The movie’s estimated budget is a decent $20 million, and the movie has successfully recovered it; however, to break even, it needs to collect around $50 million and more to earn profits. It will not be surprising if it manages to achieve that feat, as the small-budget movies performed really well last year.

Babygirl is climbing a major chart as it nears one full month in theaters. The A24 movie, which was written and directed by Halina Reijn, stars Nicole Kidman as Romy Mathis, a CEO who begins an illicit affair with her intern Samuel (Harris Dickinson) which allows her to explore her repressed sexual desires. The Babygirl release kicked off on Christmas Day and, while it was the third highest-grossing new release of the day behind Nosferatu and A Complete Unknown, it has quickly earned back its $20 million budget in theaters.
Per The Numbers, Babygirl has reached a worldwide gross of $29.3 million as of Friday, January 17. This sees it climbing the chart of the highest-grossing A24 movies of all time, surpassing 2017's The Disaster Artist ($28.72 million) to become the nineteenth best-performing release by the independent studio and distributor. However, it is still quite far from the grosses of the movies at the top of the chart,...

Harris Dickinson, star of A24's erotic drama Babygirl, said there was a particular line in the film he didn't want to say to co-star Nicole Kidman during filming.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show (via The Wrap), the actor told the host that he related to his character Samuel's position in the film as a lowly young intern approaching and ultimately dominating powerful CEO Romy, given that he himself is a relative newcomer in the film business sharing such emotionally and physically intimate scenes with a powerhouse actor like Kidman.
"For an intern to do that as well to the boss — that was hard to do, as well," Dickinson said. "Like for me to have to come in and do that to Nicole Kidman, and I was like, well how do I do this?"
Admiring and respecting her as he did, Dickinson revealed that he was worried...

Thanks to Babygirl, Nicole Kidman just crossed a major box office milestone for the first time in nearly two decades. The 2024 release sees Kidman as CEO Romy Mathis as she attempts an affair with Harris Dickinson's Samuel. Babygirl has earned exceptional reviews, with Screen Rant's Alex Harrison describing it as "fascinating to watch" and "calibrated exactly right to its time". It was officially released on December 25, 2024, and has already earned back its $20 million budget.
This movie is a massive success for Kidman, no matter how its run ends. After all, for the first time since Australia (2008), Kidman has earned over $20 million domestically. Her latest movie currently sits at $21.7 million at the domestic box office, as per The Numbers. While she has achieved that total with other projects, including both the Aquaman movies and Paddington (2014), none of those works saw her in a leading role. It is her first...

Nicole Kidman recently received an award for her performance in the latest A24 movie, Babygirl, and celebrated the win in a way that was very appropriate to the film. Following the televised and heavily publicized Golden Globes Awards Ceremony, the National Board of Review hosted its own awards ceremony, where more actors got an opportunity to receive attention for their films. While there were plenty of interesting wins, such as Daniel Craig for Best Actor in Queer, it was Nicole Kidman's acceptance speech that drew plenty of attention.
Upon receiving the award, Kidman took to the stage with a glass of milk, which she proceeded to chug after dedicating the win to “all of the babygirls in the room.” The film, written, directed, and produced by Halina Reijn, was also distributed by A24, a production company known for its clever and inspired marketing for its films. On top of receiving holiday-centric marketing and trailers,...
