Though acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer is synonymous with crafting music for the directors of several high-profile directors, his work alongside Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan remains among the most recognized throughout his career. Though Zimmer holds no hard feelings towards Nolan years after their creative breakup, he admits the prominent filmmaker feels like "life or death."

Speaking with Deadline, Zimmer addressed his long-time working relationship with Nolan, who he collaborated with on seven feature films, including The Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar. Zimmer and Nolan's creative partnership ended when Zimmer passed on composing music for Tenet in favor of Denis Villeneuve's Dune, initially causing friction between them before they patched things up. Zimmer confirmed the two remain "good friends" and hasn't ruled out a reunion for a future project. However, Zimmer admitted working with him was a “life or death situation … our relationship has always been like this.”

Being a pioneer is a long, tough road. That's the theme of Kevin Costner's "Horizon: An American Saga" both on and off the silver screen, as the filmmaker's epic passion project concerning an ensemble of characters in the Old West struggling over a piece of untamed land continues to run into all sorts of obstacles in the real world. When it was first reported that Universal Pictures had decided to permanently shelve Golden, a biopic about musician Pharrell Williams, the official line appeared to be that all involved agreed that it wasn’t fixable in its current state.

A joint statement, attributed to Williams and director Michel Gondry, said that, “When all of us got into the editing room we collectively decided there wasn’t a path forward to tell the version of this story that we originally envisioned.”

According to World of Reel, however, Golden's scrappage may not have been a quality control issue after all. The outlet reports that, weeks before it was shelved, the musical drama was test screened for an audience in Pasadena, and that far from being a disaster, Golden was warmly received.

Universal Pictures has reportedly – and rather drastically – decided to scrap a high-profile musical about Pharrell Williams. The news is an eyebrow-raiser for a number of reasons – first because it’s by a respected director, Michel Gondry, and second because it was fairly near completion.

Called Golden, the musical had an impressive cast which included Kelvin Harrison Jr, Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Brian Tyree Henry to name a few. It would have contrasted tidily with last year’s documentary Piece By Piece, since that film (largely animated using Lego figures and bricks) covered Pharrell Williams’ musical career, while Golden, a narrative feature, would have explored his childhood.

It's been a long time coming. Technically, it's been seven years. That's how long it's been since British folk rock band Mumford and Sons toured. The band last toured for their fourth studio album Delta from 2018 to 2020. In the years since, the band has announced the departure of original banjo player Winston Marshall and released the single "Good People" featuring Pharrell Williams. The film, directed by Gondry (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”), will not be released in any capacity after producers and the director collectively determined the film did not live up to its intended vision.

Golden, which previously went by the title Atlantis, will not be shopped to other interested parties, as the creative team is not continuing on with the project. It had previously been scheduled for release on May 9.

The star-studded cast included Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, Janelle Monáe, Missy Elliott and Quinta Brunson. The project was set in Virginia Beach during the summer of 1977 and inspired by Atlantis Apartments, the neighborhood where Williams grew up. Gondry helmed the musical from a script by Martin Hynes and Steven Levenson, while Williams was a producer alongside Mimi Valdés and Gil Netter.
