- Graduated from Harvard University with a degree in English (2006)
- Was a metal head as a teenager. When he was in high school, he took a picture of Carlos Cavazo from Quiet Riot to a local salon and told the woman to make him look like that. After an hour, it was done and his mom was so mortified at his appearance that she left the salon and Rivers had to walk three miles back home.
- Weezer, the name of his rock band, is actually his childhood nickname.
- The name of his 4th album "Maladroit", was inspired by a fans e-mail.
- He grew up with divorced parents and that was his inspiration for the song, "Say it ain't so" on the Weezer album.
- When he was born, his left leg was 44 mm shorter than the other. When he made enough money, he got a leg brace in which he wore for quite some time. Everyday he had to turn it to fix his leg. He also got surgery for it.

- Claims that his mom named him "Rivers" because she gave birth to him near a river but also claims his dad named him that after two famous Italian soccer players, Rivera and Riva, and a Brazillian soccer player, Rivelino.

- Does not have a middle name because his parents wanted him to chose it, but he never got around to it.
- Currently finished his band's EP, 'The Lion and the Witch', and is currently working on the band's 5th album. (October 2002)
- Is the lead singer and guitarist for the rock band Weezer.
- He has noted similarities with River Phoenix in that they shared similar names, were born the same year, had a spiritual childhood and had a younger brother with the name of Leaf/Leaves.
- (Late 2004) The new Weezer album is finished.
- Attended Harvard University where he wrote most of the famous "Pinkerton." Just a few months before graduation he dropped out. He later returned in 2006, eventually graduating.
- Attended E.O. Smith High School in Northeastern Connecticut, hence the "E.O. Smith Records" which can be seen on the back of some of his albums. The school's only other famous alum is Peter Tork of The Monkees.
