You never know when something you post on Reddit will be transformed into a Hollywood movie. THR reports that Sydney Sweeney is set to star in a new thriller based on Joe Cote’s Reddit short story titled “I pretended to be a missing girl so I could rob her family.”

No director is attached to the project yet, but Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) is writing the script. In addition to starring, Sweeny will produce the film through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner. The story centers on “a young woman who shows up at a family’s doorsteps ten years after their 18-year-old daughter went missing. Her plan is to convince the family she is their missing child, and stay just for one night — long enough to steal some valuables and get away.”

The Weeknd is turning the camera inward for suspense thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow.”

The “Idol” co-creator and lead star, Aka Abel Tesfaye, is reuniting with his team from the series for the feature, which will be released alongside his upcoming album of the same name January 24. Fans will have to wait a little longer for the film, though, which will be in theaters May 16.

The elusive logline reads: “A musician (Tesfaye) plagued by insomnia gets pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel his existence.”

Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan co-star alongside Tesfaye, who cowrote the film with his “Idol” co-writer Reza Fahim.

Scott Z. Burns pens the script, which is said to be a new adaptation of Ellis’s novel and not a remake of the 2000 film. Burns most recently created the Apple TV+ limited series “Extrapolations.”

With the Hunger Games series having generated nearly $3.7 billion in ticket sales worldwide for Lionsgate, Lawrence inked the producing deal with the major studio ahead of directing and producing The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the next film in the franchise.

The first look deal announcement was made by Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will go into production for Lionsgate in 2025, ahead of a planned worldwide release on Nov. 20, 2026.

The pact was announced by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson and Kingdom Story Company CEO Kevin Downes, who co-founded the company in 2019 alongside Jon and Andrew Erwin.

In a twinned move, Downes revealed that the company has promoted Kingdom Story president and COO Brandon Gregory to partner.

“Over the past decade, Kingdom films have established a unique ability to connect with their audiences in the faith community and beyond through high quality storytelling and exceptional productions, like their holiday hit The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” Fogelson said in a statement.

“Borderlands,” Lionsgate’s star-studded video game adaptation, is standing out as one of the biggest bombs at the box office this year.
