Per Variety, Cruel Intentions has been canceled at Prime Video after one season. It's an unfortunate end for the series, which had to overcome some major hurdles in development to finally get made. The Cruel Intentions reboot was first announced in 2021 for IMDb TV/Amazon Freevee in 2021, though it was not officially ordered to series on Prime Video until late 2023.

Cruel Intentions recently completed its first season on Amazon Prime Video with the story mirroring the plot of the 1999 film. But while the similarities were present, the show didn't share any obvious links to the movie.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunners Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman explained how the series and movie are linked, suggesting that all the characters exist in the same universe. "The Merteuils are in the world somewhere," Fisher said, referring to the character played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the iconic 1999 film. "Yes, they live in the same world," Goodman added. "[The movie] was just 25 years ago."

Selma Blair would have considered making a cameo on Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “Cruel Intentions” TV series — but was never asked.

“I knew it was coming but I can’t believe I haven’t seen the trailer,” she told Variety on Thursday’s Power of Women event, hours after the trailer for the TV adaptation came out. “Maybe there will be a cameo or something but no, I haven’t been asked anything. I’m excited to see it.”

Blair portrayed the innocent Cecile Caldwell in the 1999 film, which is based on the classic novel “Dangerous Liaisons.” In the movie, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, Cecile fell for her cello instructor, Sean Patrick Thomas’ Ronald Clifford.

Thomas will appear in the upcoming Amazon series as Professor Hank Chadwick.

The Cruel Intentions reboot finally has a premiere date. Amazon ordered the reboot series in 2023, but at that time, it was unknown if it would air on Freevee or Prime Video. Amazon made that decision in December, but that was the last we'd heard about the reboot.

Cruel Intentions, written and directed by Roger Kumble, is a seminal teen film of the 1990s, planting the plot of Dangerous Liasons firmly in late twentieth century American youth culture. It boasted star making turns from Selma Blair, Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon. It’s also the film that helped launch the big screen career of Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

“Cruel Intentions” is headed to the cutthroat world of collegiate Greek life in Prime Video’s new reboot series.

The trailer for the new show, which debuts Nov. 21, introduces a new crop of upper class elites, with Sarah Catherine Hook taking the baton from Sarah Michelle Gellar as Caroline (changed from Kathryn) Merteuil, while Zac Burgess takes on a new version of Ryan Phillippe’s Sebastian as Lucien Belmont.

Like the 1999 movie, Caroline and Lucien are step-siblings with a salacious desire for one another, with Caroline leading her close-to-perfect sorority and Lucien being known as a campus-wide womanizer.

On Thursday, Prime Video debuted the first trailer for its series adaptation of the 1999 teen movie, all eight episodes premiering Nov. 21 on the streamer, bringing a familiar tale of deception to a new locale with all new characters.

The trailer has some nostalgic callbacks to the hit 1999 movie, including an upbeat cover of The Verve’s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’, a familiar black convertible and an even more familiar rosary necklace with an unholy hidden secret.

Also consistent with the original, the series features a very indecent wager between affluent stepsiblings Caroline Merteuil (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess), who rule the Greek system at Manchester College, their Washington DC-adjacent university.

It’s going to be a cruel (cruel) autumn on Amazon Prime Video.

On Thursday, Prime Video debuted what it called the “enticing” (ew) trailer and premiere date for its “Cruel Intentions” series. All eight episodes will debut on November 21 in the more than 240 countries and territories worldwide in which Amazon Prime Video is available. So, ah, have a super weird family Thanksgiving everyone!

The “Cruel Intentions” series comes 25 years after the iconic film of the same name. Also of the same (or at least similar) names are its “new class of cruel characters,” in Prime Video’s words.

Zac Burgess plays Lucien Belmont, essentially the role Ryan Phillippe played in the 1999 film. Sarah Catherine Hook plays Caroline Merteuil; in the movie, Sarah Michelle Gellar was Kathryn Merteuil.

Savannah Lee Smith plays Annie Grover, the new Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon). Oh come on.

Hulu has unveiled the trailer for its new limited series “Interior Chinatown” from executive producers Charles Yu and Taika Waititi. Based on Yu’s novel of the same name, all 10 episodes will be available to stream Nov. 19.

According to the official synopsis, “the show follows the story of Willis Wu (Jimmy O. Yang), a background character trapped in a police procedural called ‘Black & White.’ Relegated to the background, Willis goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables, dreaming about a world beyond Chinatown and aspiring to be the lead of his own story. When Willis inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, he begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, while discovering his own family’s buried history and what it feels like to be in the spotlight.”
