Iasonas Psarakis is a Greek-born composer, filmmaker, and musician specializing in North Indian Classical and World music. A soloist on the sitar, esraj, and other instruments, his career spans European Classical, Middle Eastern, and Hindustani Classical music traditions. He has studied under esteemed gurus such as Ameena Perera (daughter of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan), Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee, Amie Maciszawski, and Sabyasachida Sarkhel.
He graduated from Sangit Bhavan at Visva Bharati University with a B.Mus. in Hindustani Classical Music (Sitar), supported by multiple scholarships, including from ICCR India.
In 2014, Iasonas released his debut album, Clay, recorded in Lebanon, blending Indian Classical music with Iranian influences.
He has showcased his music in theatres, concert halls, auditoriums, collectives, cultural venues, street performances, radio broadcasts, international music festivals, and archaeological sites worldwide, including Greece, Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, India, Italy, Bangladesh, and Turkey.
In 2019, Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized his first solo concert in Egypt. He has also performed in the historical Apollon Theatre (Ermoupolis) and the Theocharakis B&M Foundation for the Fine Arts & Music in Greece.
As the founder, composer, and arranger of the Iasi Ensemble, Iasonas released their debut album, Astris, in December 2023. The album features collaborations with renowned musicians from Iran, India, and Greece. It received the three Silver Medal (for Best Album, Composer & World Music) at the Global Music Awards in California, USA, and charted prominently on world music platforms such as Ethnocloud (Canada) and One World Music Radio (UK). Additionally, the album was included on the first-round ballot for the GRAMMY Awards® in the "Best Global Music Album" category.
In 2022, Iasonas composed the soundtrack for the experimental film Missing Moments, earning nine awards for Best Original Score from international film and music festivals. In 2023, his music-dance short film Dancing with the Unknown and his music video Whirling Desert received widespread acclaim, winning 34 awards from recognized international film festivals and earning 53 nominations.
He has received numerous accolades for his work in the music and film industries, including six Silver Medals from the Global Music Awards (USA) and prizes from prestigious festivals such as the Jaipur International Film Festival (India) and the Thomas Edison Film Festival (USA).
Iasonas is also a part of the musical Hellenic Traditional Project, produced by Nikolas Gkinis.
He collaborates with renowned international artists such as Kehua Li (Lico Dance), Suhaee Abro, Nikola Gkinis, Takis Loukatos, Rija Yousuf, Ador Hooyar, and many others.
Recently, he founded and curated the International Independent Global Art Festival and the Mukhti Bhoomi Festival, hosted by the Hihiri Pipiri Transcultural Creative Network.
