Avril Lavigne was one of the biggest popstars of the 2000s, and her continued success in the industry, film and TV roles, and brand deals have all combined to give the Canadian punk rocker an eye-popping net worth. Pop and punk don't always go hand-in-hand with punk being counter-culture, and pop being mainstream, but when the combination works, some great bangers get produced. Take Avril Lavigne, the Canadian jean-wearing, hair-dyeing, boyfriend-cussing musician who owned the airwaves in the early 2000s with songs like "Complicated", "Girlfriend", and "What The Hell".
Over the course of her career, Lavigne has been nominated for 8 Grammys, set the Guinness World Record for the youngest female solo artist to top the UK chart, has had multiple Billboard top 100 hits, and is internationally famous on a level that may surprise casual fans who think the singer peaked with "Sk8er Boi" (via Sennheiser). Hinder drummer Cody Hanson has revealed that he “almost got beat up” by Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.
In a new interview on The Jesea Lee Show, Hanson was asked if he’s had any “super cringey” moments with other bands over the years. Immediately, Hanson thought of a drunken confrontation he had with Kroeger, offering up a story he hadn’t told publicly before.

“In the early days, we were out touring with Nickelback, and we always loved Nickelback growing up, one of our favorite bands,” began Hanson. “We’d kind of become buddies with them. We spent a couple summers recording in Vancouver, one of the summers was at Chad Kroeger’s house, so we kinda knew the guys.”

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 12, Episode 7 of “The Masked Singer,” “Who Are You Fest Night,” which aired November 13 on Fox.
It may have been a wipeout, but surfer Bethany Hamilton told Variety that she still enjoyed her brief appearance on “The Masked Singer.” Hamilton was the latest celebrity to be unmasked, revealed to be the star under the Macaron costume as the show’s Group C competition got underway on Wednesday’s episode.
“I wanted to originally do ‘The Masked Singer’ just because I thought it would be fun,” Hamilton said. “I sing to my children every day and thought maybe I’d get better at singing. And it’s also an opportunity to encourage people, and that’s what my life is all about.”
Among the show’s panelists, Rita Ora got it right, naming Bethany Hamilton — and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg agreed. Ken Jeong though it was Gypsy Rose Blanchard.

Nickelback have made a preemptive stand for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie — and its star and fellow Canadian Ryan Reynolds — in a new social media clip.
All four members of the band donned Deadpool and Wolverine masks in the video promoting the film — which hits theaters this Friday (July 26th) — offering up a PSA for anyone thinking about bashing the Marvel superhero crossover (read Consequence’s review here).

Nickelback was formed by Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake, and Brandon Kroeger (cousin of Chad and Mike) in Hanna, Alberta in the 1990s. Despite facing financial challenges, Nickelback eventually signed with Roadrunner Records, a label primarily known for metal music. Nickelback faced a huge backlash on social media in the 2000s largely stemming from them being "too mainstream."
Hate to Love: Nickelback from Netflix reveals the details behind the rise of one of the most popular bands of the 21st century. Originating in Hanna, Alberta, the hometown of some of the band's key members, Nickelback became a quintessential part of the music industry in the 2000s. Possibly due to overexposure, Nickelback faced a huge backlash complaining about the quality of their music and making them a massively divisive group. The Netflix music documentary recounts events viewers may already know about, and some surprising behind-the-scenes facts.

Howard Stern tricked American Idol judges on his show, making Simon Cowell doubt his own credibility. Stern interviewed singers with hidden identities, causing judges to give brutally honest opinions. Stern considered replacing Cowell on American Idol, stating he'd bring a new, more honest dynamic.
American Idol became part of television history after it premiered in 2003. The show became a pop culture phenomenon. It introduced Kelly Clarkson to the world and the judging panel became household names.
Those judges, however, would have their credibility questioned when they appeared on The Howard Stern Show.
During one memorable appearance, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson were tricked by the radio host. The moment had such an effect on Cowell, he began joking that his entire credibility had been destroyed.

Nickelback and Hardy team up for an epic collaboration as part of the iconic CMT Crossroads series. So, what can listeners expect from this latest crossover?
CMT Crossroads Is A Legendary Series
As an artist, when you become successful in a particular style or genre, it can be tempting to take on the “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” mindset. After all, once you crack the code and find the winning formula, why mess with something that is working?
However, since first kicking off all the way back in January of 2002, CMT Crossroads brings together two famous artists or bands that might not normally cross paths. What comes of these epic pairings is renditions of songs that blend both styles to create something entirely new.
With over 22 seasons and more than 70 episodes to its credit, CMT Crossroads continues to be a hit with fans, and the show isn’t slowing down whatsoever.

There may be no more natural pairing for CMT Crossroads than Nickelback and Hardy. Both appeal to country and rock audiences, both worked with producer Joey Moi, and both have a song called “Rockstar.” On April 6, they’ll mash up their respective styles — and their “Rockstar” singles — for an episode of CMT’s crossover performance series.
Recorded in Nashville earlier in March, the episode features Hardy and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger trading verses on Nickelback’s “Save Me” and “Animals,” and Hardy hits “Truck Bed” and “Give Heaven Some Hell.

The episode of The Best of the Worst focusing on Freddy Krueger was written, narrated, and edited by Mike Holtz.
You wanna know what makes Freddy Krueger so scary? I mean, other than his obvious need to moisturize? He’s unavoidable. As unavoidable as death, taxes and Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce news stories. All he needs to be able to heinously take you out is for you to eventually sleep… and everyone sleeps. Everyone also poops but they haven’t made that movie yet. Just a really well marketed children’s book. See, you can physically escape Michael Myers. Hell, the guy can’t even run! He power walks. Like your grandparents in the mall before the shops open in the morning. You can escape Jason Voorhees by simply wearing his dead mom’s clothing and bossing him around. Some people would just call that a nice Friday night in.

Mike Portnoy recently participated in a series of videos for instructional drumming platform Drumeo just weeks after rejoining Dream Theater.
The first clip saw him performing Dream Theater’s “Pull Me Under” for the first time in 13 years, while a second video featured an interview and longer playthough session.
A new video from the sessions subjects Portnoy to Drumeo’s recurring “For the First Time” segment, in which drummers hear a song for the first time — sans percussion — and are tasked with improvising a drum part.
The Drumeo studio engineers apparently had a hard time finding a song that Portnoy wasn’t already familiar with, citing his extensive touring portfolio and exposure to countless rock and metal acts over the years. Therefore, the song they landed on, via the recommendation of Portnoy’s drum tech Jose Baraquio, was kinda out of left field: Nickelback’s 2009 single “Burn It to the Ground.

Nickelback is on hand for the 2023 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, where the Canadian rockers are the focus as the new documentary “Hate to Love: Nickelback” makes its TIFF debut.
Not only does the documentary recount the band’s rise to the top of the rock genre, “Hate to Love” also takes an unsparing look at the backlash that’s dogged the band for years.
“I’m over it… And now from this day forward, if anybody asks that question in the press, it’s like that’s the end of the interview.”
Interviewed by People during TIFF, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger says the documentary will be the last word on the subject, and he has no plans to ever address it again.

It is easy to shit on Nickelback. Too easy, some might say. The question is really: Why? What, exactly, is it about this Canadian group that inspires such ill will? Their overwhelming success? Lots of bands are successful, for all of the right and wrong reasons. Their hits? No one’s accusing them of being the Beatles, or even the Bay City Rollers in terms of songwriting. “How You Remind Me” remains an earworm, a karaoke staple, a classic rock song that felt like very old classic rock before the...

Nickelback’s Chad and Mike Kroeger open up on how “great” it was to have their mom be a part of the band’s new musical documentary.
Ahead of the TIFF premiere of the doc, titled “Hate To Love: Nickelback”, Mike told Et Canada’s Morgan Hoffman how special it was to have their mom’s support in the film that profiles the band’s evolution from their humble beginnings in Alberta, to their explosive global success in the early 2000s and the quick wave of online negativity that followed.
“She’s always had our back… it’s your mom who jumps up and defends you or the other people that love you.”

While gearing up for the TIFF premiere of their documentary, “Hate to Love: Nickelback“, one of Canada’s most iconic bands chatted with Et Canada’s Morgan Hoffman about the unwavering support from another fellow Canadian icon.
“He is very expensive… There’s an NDA on his price and if we say how much, we’re in deep s**t.”
Acknowledging that the band has acquired a vast amount of hate and love over the years – documented in their movie – Hoffman asked the bandmates what they think of Ryan Reynold’s stamp of approval, who inducted the multi-platinum musicians into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at this year’s Juno Awards.

Justice for Nickelback?
“Hate to Love,” a documentary about one of the most ragged on bands of all time, had its world premiere on Friday afternoon at the Toronto Film Festival and (maybe?) shed new light on the Canadian rockers.
But given their reputation on some corners of the internet, Cameron Bailey, the CEO of TIFF, admits he questioned whether or not to program the film as part of this year’s lineup. “We talked about it and thought, ‘Are we still going to be cool and artsy if we invite this film?'” He says the ultimately decided to say, “Fuck it, hell yes.”

Nickelback is well aware of how the public perceives them. “When it comes down to all the crap that we get, and we do get more than any band out there—I don’t know if anyone would ever contest that,” lead singer Chad Kroeger says halfway through Hate to Love: Nickelback, and he’s absolutely right. Whether or not they deserve the hate, Nickelback has been a punching musical bag for years, after their massive success in the early 2000s, leading to rock-radio dominance with songs like “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph,” and “Rockstar.” With the rise of social media dovetailing into the peak of their success, Nickelback became as much of a meme and an easy joke as one of the biggest rock bands of the 21st century. As Nickelback’s Ryan Peake says, “nobody picks up a guitar to be in the most hated band in the world.

The late “Margaritaville” singer and leader of his “Parrothead” fans had another memorable experience with flying creatures — in the 2015 film “Jurassic World.” In an uncredited role, Jimmy Buffett played a bartender at the infamous dinosaur-filled park (which can’t quite keep its animals in their enclosures).
His own Margaritaville bar and restaurant also makes an appearance, with an Isla Nublar location appearing on the theme park’s main concourse. When pterosaurs are let loose on the park’s unsuspecting visitors, the crowd runs in terror. This includes Mr. Buffett fleeing the bar — but he also makes sure to save two precious margaritas, one in each hand, as he flees.
“My number one goal of the movie is for Jurassic World to feel like a real place,” director Colin Trevorrow said in a behind-the-scenes featurette. “We wanted it to feel like a Fiji resort, and when you go down that main street,...

Los Angeles, Aug 8 (Ians) The singer of Canadian hard rock band Nickelback, Chad Kroeger, was forced to stop the band’s Mississippi tour after he developed throat problems that rendered him unable to sing.
A footage of the band went online when Kroeger stopped singing while in Missouri after he complained about throat problems, but people were only quick to mock him.
The band is on a North American tour, heading off from Columbia to Mississippi, Tennessee and then Texas.
Stopping the track ‘Animals’ midway, Kroeger could be heard saying in the video, “I can’t do this. I cannot sit here with a f***** absolutely destroyed throat and try to make it through this show and pretend like there’s nothing f***** wrong and take your f***** money, ’cause that is wrong.”

Nickelback are currently on the road touring North America, though the band encountered a hiccup during a show last Thursday (August 3rd) in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The concert seemed to be going off without a hitch until Chad Kroeger and company began the song “Animals.” Apparently, Kroeger wasn’t confident in his vocal performance up until that point, because the singer-guitarist stopped the band mid-song to address the issue and apologize.
“I can’t do this,” he said. “I cannot sit here with a fucking absolutely destroyed throat and try to make it through this show and pretend like there’s nothing fucking wrong and take your fucking money, ’cause that is wrong. I’m having a hard time hittin’ fuckin’ notes.”

Nick Cave has teamed up with the Miraculous Love Kids of Afghanistan — a musical group of girl refugees — for their new single “Breathless/Beautiful.” Listen to it below.
Based on “Wife With Eyes Closed,” a poem Cave wrote about his wife Susie for Issue #60 of his The Red Hand Files, “Breathless/Beautiful” is a resonant number heightened by the children’s saccharine harmonies. Group founder Lanny Cordola intros the track with gravelly vocals backed by slow acoustic guitar before Cave’s gruffness enters the picture.
“The words resonated deeply in my soul and it struck me how even in loss, grief, and the harsh agonies of the world, we can create a sacred chamber in the heart to keep our loved ones,” Cordola said in a press release. It was his idea to expand on the poem, having first read it just two days after losing his brother. “Then the...

Nickelback are one of the most successful rock acts of the 21st century, but for one reason or another they are also one of the most reviled bands in modern history. That said, things apparently are looking a bit cheerier for the Canadian rockers, as frontman Chad Kroeger thinks “there’s been a softening” in the hatred in recent years.
When asked about the hate the band has received over the years in a new Zoom conversation with Arizona radio station Kfma (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), Kroeger responded, “That kind of used to be a thing. I shouldn’t say ‘that kind of used to be’ — that was definitely a thing for a long time. And I think there’s been a softening — there really has, thankfully.
The singer, who was enjoying a dip in a swimming pool during the interview (not exactly gonna help with the “softening”), continued, “I...

Famous Canadian journalist Nardwuar finally interviewed Nickelback bandmates Chad Kroeger and Ryan Peake for the first time in an hour-long conversation at Neptoon Records in Vancouver last week.
Band members Kroeger and Peake explored various topics in their sweeping interview with the eccentric media personality, including a story about how their former drummer, Kroeger’s cousin Brandon, quit the band in 1996.
In the extensive interview, Nardwuar, in typical well-researched fashion, reminds Kroeger and Peake of the 1996 show date in which Nickelback and industrial rock band Stabbing Westward performed together at Vancouver’s Starfish Room.

“They were on tour opening up for Kiss, and they came to town on this brand-new, huge tour bus… And we had never been on a tour bus before.

Nickelback have faced their fair share of detractors over the years, but in 2019, pop star Lizzo came to the defense of the oft-derided alternative rock act. Four years later, the band is showing its appreciation for the support.
Lizzo’s remarks originate from CBC Music’s “Jam or Not Jam” video segment, in which she’s played various songs including Nickelback’s monster 2001 hit “How You Remind Me.”
“It has a beautiful climax,” she said as she nodded along to the post-grunge tune. “Why do people not like Nickelback? I feel like Nickelback gets way too much shit. I think this is a jam.”
She continued: “Because [lead singer Chad Kroeger] had a curly blond perm. That’s the only reason they get shit, because this is an amazing song.”

Pop-punk icon Avril Lavigne is known for defining much of the 2000s for teenagers with her alternative, edgy music. The award-winning singer has definitely transformed since her "Sk8er Boi" days, but her latest album, "Love Sux," taps into the nostalgic sound that drew listeners to her all those years ago. The artist has remained present in the music scene throughout her career, but most don't know much about her romances as she's kept those details mainly private over the years.
Lavigne recently called off her engagement to singer-songwriter and music producer Mod Sun. Nickelback owns a particularly unique space in the annals of rock, on one hand selling more than 50 million albums to become the 11th best-selling band in history, while on the other being relentlessly trashed by haters.
Appearing on Barstool Sports’ “KFC Radio” podcast, Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Daniel Adair weighed in on where that animosity toward the band first originated, claiming to have pinpointed what they believe to be ground zero for Nickelback hate.
“There were these milestones that started this snowball rolling… Some comedian — I’m gonna have to go find the guy’s name so I can go bomb his house — makes this s**ty crack about us,” Kroeger explained. “And he’s on Comedy Central. They took that, they put it in a commercial for that one show.”

“It’s hard to believe that that’s actually a real thing, to be honest,” said Nickelback guitarist/keyboardist Ryan Peake.
“I’m kind of speechless,” Peake said, jokingly adding, “It’s amazing for somebody to recognize that we won’t go away… We didn’t start playing to end up with something like that. I mean, that’s just it’s an amazing thing to do to have bestowed on you.

Early in the pandemic, satirical comedy duo Chad Kroeger and Jt Parr took to the streets in one of Southern California’s most mandate-averse coastal communities, Huntington Beach, to hand out masks.
With their disarming surfer bro vernacular and a faux-naivety about a “mask shortage,” they attempted to deliver free face coverings to a variety of boardwalk denizens — each of them turning the guys away, citing medical misinformation, religious zealotry and other QAnon-approved rhetoric. They racked up 2.2 million views and countless pick-up, and it was hardly their first brush with viral fame. Their appearances at various SoCal city council meetings are the stuff of local legend. They even tricked Fox News into booking them for an interview. And, come Aug. 23, their unique brand of activism and comedy gets its own Netflix series: Chad and Jt Go Deep.
The streamer dubs the show a “raunchy prank comedy.
