Chicago Fire might not be the only blaze on NBC’s primetime lineup.

The network is developing a drama series based on Candice Fox’s 2023 novel Fire With Fire, which would star This Is Us alum Jon Huertas. According to our sister site Deadline, which first reported the project, Huertas will also executive-produce alongside The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley, while onetime Arrow co-showrunner Wendy Mericle will write the script.

Exclusive: NBC is developing a drama starring Jon Huertas, who will executive produce alongside The Rookie and The Recruit creator Alexi Hawley.

Former Arrow co-showrunner Wendy Mericle is writing the untitled project based on the novel Fire with Fire by bestselling author Candice Fox.

Executive producer Sherry Marsh acquired the rights to the book while under her deal at eOne. The company’s Mike Lombardo and Jackie Sacerio optioned the title. It comes from Lionsgate Television, where Hawley is under an overall deal, and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Huertas and Mericle executive produce alongside Hawley, through Perfectman Pictures and Marsh for Marsh Entertainment. Perfectman’s Rachel Abarbanell will co-executive produce.

Boardwalk Empire and Boiling Point star Stephen Graham is to receive the Richard Harris Award at this year’s BIFAs. The award recognises an outstanding contribution by an actor to British film. Australian series Troppo will travel across Europe, thanks to new deals for the crime drama starring Thomas Jane and Nicole Chamoun.

Canal+ Group’s thriller channel Polar+ snatched up pay, streaming and sell-through rights to it for French-speaking territories, and AMC Networks Central Europe acquired free, pay and streaming rights for the show, which premiered on Australia’s ABC and debuted on Amazon Freevee in the U.S. in May 2022.

RTP2 Portugal snatched up free-tv rights in the territory, while Amazon Freevee has Troppo for Germany and the U.K., and Scandinavian pay-tv group Viaplay carries the show in the Nordics.

Chrissy Metz has booked her first post-This Is Us TV role.

According to Deadline, Metz will topline Help Me Rhonda, a new series based on James Patterson's and Candice Fox's hit novel 2 Sisters Detective Agency.

The project has a script plus penalty commitment at NBCUniversal.

2 Sisters Detective Agency comes from Life Sentence creators Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith, in association with James Patterson Entertainment, Nina Tassler and Denise Di Novi’s PatMa Productions, Cathy Konrad’s Tree Line Film, and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The project enters on Rhonda Bird (Metz), a brash public defender, and Barbra Ann “Baby” Bird, the privileged teenage sister she never knew she had, who reluctantly take over their late father’s private detective agency.

Exclusive: Walk Like A Duck Entertainment and Renegade Entertainment have entered into a two-picture financing and co-production deal, tapping veteran second unit director, stunt choreographer and fight coordinator Chris Brewster as the director for the first film under the deal, titled Relentless. The deal follows Wlad’s participation in Renegade’s recently released features Dig and Slayers, starring Renegade principal Thomas Jane.

Relentless is a Taken-style action-thriller in which Jane will play Charlie Thorne, a former U.S. Army Green Beret living off the grid who is forced back into action when smugglers steal his boat, leaving him for dead and attempting to kill a young girl he has befriended. Exclusive: Lionsgate has acquired the upcoming action-thriller One Ranger, which stars Thomas Jane and John Malkovich. The studio is handling sales at the upcoming American Film Market.

In One Ranger, a highly skilled Texas Ranger (Jane) is recruited by British Intelligence to track down an extremely dangerous terrorist and stop him from unleashing a major attack on London. The pic, written and directed by Jesse V. Johnson, also stars Dean S. Jagger and Dominique Tipper.

One Ranger is produced by Corey Large and Bernie Gewissler. EPs are Jane and Courtney Lauren Penn via Renegade Entertainment.

Nordic streamer Viaplay and Amazon’s ad-supported service Freevee have scored online rights to the Australian crime drama Troppo from German group Leonine Studios.

Viaplay picked up SVOD rights to the series, based on Candice Fox’s best-selling Crimson Lake novels, for the Nordics, the Netherlands, Poland and the Baltic region. Amazon Freevee scored AVOD rights for Germany and the U.K.

In Troppo, Thomas Jane plays Ted Conkaffey, a down-and-out ex-cop living in tropical Far North Queensland, Australia, who is recruited by Amanda Pharell (Nicole Chamoun), an eccentric small town private investigator, to investigate the murder of a brilliant tech pioneer. Created and written by Yolanda Ramke (Cargo) and co-directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse (Wakefield), Troppo premiered on Australian’s ABC and debuted in the U.S. on Freevee in May.

Germany’s Leonine Studios has acquired distribution rights to AGC Television’s Australian crime drama Troppo.

The eight-part series comes is based on the Crimson Lake novel series from writer Candice Fox and recently debuted on the ABC in Australia. In the U.S., it is set to go out on Amazon’s IMDb TV (soon to be Amazon Freevee)
