There's a lot wrong with Stewie Griffin from "Family Guy." Why is he evil? Why is his head shaped like a football? Why can he and the dog talk? And even accepting that Stewie can talk, why is he talking like that?
Stewie Griffin talks in a sort of upper-class English accent, which is weird because the rest of the Griffins (especially his parents) talk with distinct Rhode Island accents. Even Brian, who's speaking skill origins are similarly unexplored throughout the series, still talks in a standard American accent you'd expect from someone who grew up in America. Why is the dog's voice more normal than the baby's? And while we're asking questions, can someone in Quahog do something about that pedophile who lives down the street?
In a 2010 interview, MacFarlane explained how he thought up Stewie's voice. Turns out, he was reading about the production of one of his favorite movies,...

Seth MacFarlane's Ted 2 is about to offend audiences on a new streaming service this February. Directed, starring, and co-written (with Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild) by Family Guy mastermind, Seth MacFarlane, Ted 2 is the director's 2015 follow-up to the beloved 2012 comedy, Ted. The franchise stars Mark Wahlberg, with MacFarlane voicing the eponymous living teddy bear. After Ted fell in love in the first movie, Ted 2 sees the titular bear and his wife, Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth), trying to have a baby. But, because Ted isn't technically alive, he isn't allowed to be a father.
Ted 2 streams on Netflix on February 16. Alongside Wahlberg, MacFarlane, and Barth, the sequel also starred Amanda Seyfried, Patrick Stewart (narrating), Giovanni Ribisi, Morgan Freeman, Patrick Warburton, and Patrick Slattery. There are also a bunch of celebrity cameos, including Liam Neeson, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Brady, and Sam J. Jones. The official synopsis reads:

Seth MacFarlane is undeniably a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, particularly in the TV space. As the creator of long-running shows such as "Family Guy" and "American Dad," his creations are now fixtures of the pop culture landscape. But even heavy-hitters miss every once in a while. For MacFarlane, his biggest miss to date came in 2013 when Fox picked up his live-action multi-camera sitcom "Dads" to air. Riding high at arguably the biggest moment in his career, the network seemed to think it couldn't lose. What it wound up with was an unrivaled critical misfire.
How bad was the response to "Dads," exactly? Amazingly enough, it ranks as the worst-reviewed sitcom on Metacritic with a dreadful 15 "Metascore." It should be noted that the site only counts titles with seven or more reviews. Setting aside any technicalities, "Dads" is...

Seth MacFarlane Explains Peter Griffin's Startling Confession From a Classic Episode of 'Family Guy'
One of Family Guy's more memorable gags was during Season 4 in the 2006 episode, Untitled Griffin Family History. As the family could possibly drown in a panic room that's flooding, Peter has a major confession to make, "I did not care for The Godfather." His family's reactions are fairly relatable, despite the pending doom.
After the clip had gone viral, series creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane jumped on X (formerly Twitter) to reveal one of the key lines when Peter was explaining to his stunned family why he didn't care for arguably one of the greatest films in cinematic history, "It insists upon itself."
"Since this has been trending, here's a fun fact: 'It insists upon itself' was a criticism my college film history professor used to explain why he didn't think 'The Sound of Music' was a great film. First-rate teacher, but I never quite followed that one.

After a delay, Family Guy is finally returning, with Season 23 premiering on Sunday Feb. 16, 2025. It will debut at 8 pm Et / Pt, which has long been The Simpsons' time slot, per TheWrap. Rounding out the two-hour block will be Grimsburg Season 2, The Great North Season 5, and Krapopolis Season 2.
The new episode will be a riff on Top Gun, with Peter playing Maverick as he mourns the death of Goose (Joe). His relationship with Charlie (Lois) is explored along with his son, Rooster (Chris). Given Family Guy's winning record with spoofs on beloved movies, expect this one to be a classic.
The show recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, despite being canceled twice since its series premiere on Jan. 31, 1999.
When Does 'The Simpsons' Return?
Just a few weeks back, it was reported that The Simpsons would lose its coveted Sundays at 8 pm Et / Pt time slot, and would be moved to Wednesday nights.

Seth MacFarlane's animated sitcom "Family Guy" has long traded in shock humor and crass jokes. Like a fratboy-ready version of "The Simpsons," "Family Guy" came into being when many comedians and TV shows were testing the limits of what was deemed acceptable on television. Many of said comedians were pushing back against the still-remembered manufactured wholesomeness of Reagan's 1980s. MacFarlane was born in 1972, so he grew up witnessing the blandness of the "classic American sitcom." There was also a general cultural bristling at the 1990s trend toward "politically correct language," even from those who agreed with the sentiment toward sensitivity.
MacFarlane's "Family Guy" opened with a riff on the title sequence for "All in the Family," and then exploded into a glitzy song-and-dance routine about restoring "good old-fashioned values." The title was ironic, though. Peter Griffin (MacFarlane) was not a "family guy" at all, but a crass, media-blinded,...

Family Guy is heading back to Adult Swim, over three years after it stopped airing on the network and 20 years after the Warner Bros. Discovery helped revive it.
The cable network has struck a non-exclusive licensing deal for the rights to old episodes of Seth MacFarlane’s Fox animated series and will launch it in the new year.
This comes after Comedy Central struck a similar deal earlier this year and launched it in a primetime block. The series also airs library episodes on FX and Fxx and Hulu is the exclusive streaming home for the series.
Adult Swim is part of the reason that Family Guy still exists; the show was canceled by Fox after its second season. Cartoon Network subsequently acquired the library rights to the show, reportedly for a very low fee, and aired it on its Adult Swim strand, where alongside DVD sales, it started to...

One of the trickiest ongoing debates in the comedy business concerns how exactly to evolve with the times. For some comedians and comedy writers, moving away from certain jokes means you're "appeasing the woke mob" (see also: the controversy around Dave Chappelle's more recent comedy specials), whereas for others, finding the ever-shifting line of what's deemed acceptable is part of the fun. Straddling the line is an impressive skill; barging straight past the line is easy, and sort of boring.
Although this culture-wide debate over comedic boundaries usually centers around stand-up comedians, animated sitcoms often end up in the middle of it too. For instance, "The Simpsons" spurred a round of outrage in 2023 when Homer made a throwaway joke about no longer strangling his son Bart. "I don't do that anymore. Times have changed," Homer says. The actual joke is that strangling your child wasn't considered socially acceptable in the '90s either,...

The 2024 Family Guy holiday special, "The Gift of the White Guy," delivers the same irreverent comedy the show has become known for, with nothing very special about it. That is not to say the episode is bad, it has several laugh-out-loud moments, but in a series with well over 400 episodes, it becomes a challenge just to improve on itself. And with plenty of holiday specials in the past 25 years, this episode doesn't break the mold.

The Western genre has stood out as one of the most interesting in Hollywood, thanks to the work of movie legends like John Wayne, John Ford and Clint Eastwood. Delivering on meaningful stories, character studies and fresh perspectives on the American West, these movies have appealed to a wide range of the movie-going audience. However, the genre hasn't always appealed to the masses as well as comedy, horror or superhero movies.
Western movies are an acquired taste for mainstream audiences, with the slow-burn nature of the genre often alienating people, particularly younger viewers. That being said, there are plenty of entries that bring their own unique strengths to the Old West, appealing to people might otherwise give it a miss. From science fiction blends to deep character studies, these movies can be the perfect place to start for people who otherwise hate the genre.

The Griffins try to find that Christmas spirit in new images from Family Guy's upcoming holiday special. The long-running adult animated comedy recently debuted season 23 with a Halloween special. Even though the series' future is not confirmed after Family Guy season 23 with an official renewal, creator Seth MacFarlane has confirmed that the Griffins could continue for years to come. That would mean many more Family Guy holiday specials, including a new Christmas-centric story that will debut this year. It comes after the Halloween Special Peter, Peter Pumpkin Cheater which premiered on Monday, October 14.

Hulu will stream the Family Guy Halloween Special on October 14, the first two exclusive holiday specials that precede the highly-anticipated season 23 of the show. “Family Guy” is celebrating its 25th anniversary with something it has never done before: a Halloween special. Halloween episodes are a “Simpsons” thing, and they’re something “Family Guy” didn’t borrow…until now. On Thursday, Hulu released a trailer for the animated sitcom’s Halloween special, titled “Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater.”
Per Hulu, the special follows Peter and his friends as they aim to unseat the reigning champion, Patrick McCloskey, in Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest by any means necessary. Patrick McCloskey is voiced by special guest star Glen Powell, and is a man who loves Halloween so much that he has pumpkin-colored hair. Derek Jacobi (“Gladiator”) also guests as the voice of Rupert, Stewie’s beloved teddy bear.

The trailer for the Family Guy Halloween Special has arrived. The upcoming episode of the long-running adult animated sitcom will be the first of two Hulu exclusive holiday specials meant to kick off Family Guy season 23 as part of the celebration of the show's 25th anniversary, a streaming television event that was announced during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year.
Hulu has now unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming Family Guy Halloween Special. It begins with the family gathered in a Spirit Halloween-esque store for a gag where Peter proudly announces that they are a family that doesn't use changing rooms before launching into showcasing the trials and tribulations of one of the main storylines of the episode, a Pumpkin Contest that pits the show's iconic characters against champion Patrick McCloskey, voiced by guest star Glen Powell.

Family Guy has built a reputation for being controversial over the years, and it seems that the vast majority of its fans enjoy it when the characters toe the line. Glenn Quagmire has grown to be one of the show's strongest suits, adding an innuendo to almost every scene and providing the show with an overlay of blue comedy. So, whether he's shouting "Giggity" at every woman who walks past or showcasing one of his many perverted hobbies, fans have come to love the consistency he adds to the show.
But, over the years, Quagmire has expanded his character arc exponentially. He's no longer just a resource for dirty jokes and has managed to warm fans' hearts countless times. Thus, even though these events are rare, Glenn has shown the audience that maybe he's not such a bad guy after all.

Exclusive: Family Guy is set to air on Comedy Central as part of an adult animation block after the Paramount network struck a licensing deal with Disney.
The deal will see the Seth MacFarlane-created series launch on Comedy Central on September 2, joining animated series such as South Park, Futurama, and Beavis and Butt-Head.
It highlights the fact that while licensing deals for network shows on cable is a rarity in the new world of streaming, it isn’t completely dead. The deal is non-exclusive with prior seasons continuing to air on FX and Fxx, while Hulu is the exclusive streaming home of the show.
It comes after Family Guy is being moved to midseason on Fox, the first time that Peter Griffin and his family aren’t on the fall schedule. Family Guy, as well as The Simpsons, are heading into its final season of a two-season renewal. Hulu...

Family Guy creators resist more Star Wars parodies, missing out on potential comedic gold. Public opinion on prequel trilogy has shifted, creating new opportunity for humorous commentary. Despite success of original "Blue Harvest," more parodies may not be best creative move.
The Family Guy creators have a rule against making more Star Wars parodies, but there are significant reasons why they should. ScreenRant was in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 when the Family Guy panel took the stage. When asked about the potential for more Star Wars parodies based on the prequel trilogy, long-time producer Alec Sulkin stated, "We definitely aren't going to do that." The original Star Wars parody, "Blue Harvest," aired in 2007 and is still considered one of the best Family Guy episodes.
Regarding Family Guy season 23, the producers revealed that a massive Stewie Griffin rule is finally being broken, in that Lois will finally be able to understand him speaking.

"Family Guy" fans will often try to claim that the show's best years were its original three-season run, but I'd argue that the show's peak was somewhere around season 6. The series' comedic style had fully found its groove by this point, not to mention that it really started to lean into the Brian/Stewie duo episodes that everyone loves so much. Best of all, this was the beginning of the show's annual "Star Wars" parody specials.
For three years in a row, we got to enjoy a version of "Star Wars" where all the characters were acting like "Family Guy" characters. It not only created a really fun guessing game of "Who are they gonna pick to play X?" but gave the writers a chance to bring their neurotic observational humor into this familiar cinematic world. It's one thing for Peter to repeatedly groan while clutching his knee; it's another...

The Naked Gun reboot stars Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. in a slapstick comedy sequel to the original films. New cast members include Liza Koshy, Cody Rhodes, Cch Pounder, and Busta Rhymes, with Kevin Durand playing the villain. Liam Neeson expresses nervousness about the comedic role but believes in director Akiva Schaffer's ability to bring humor to the film.
Production on The Naked Gun starring Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Danny Huston is underway, and weve now learned the identity of the final few cast members that will be included in the reboot. Neeson will take on the part made famous by Leslie Nielsen in the 1980s, first on television in Police Squad!, and then on the big screen in The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad, and its two sequels. It's a busy old time for Paul Walter Hauser – with good reason, since he's been putting in excellent, memorable and award-winning performances in a variety of films and shows. He's now attached to another big title, joining Liam Neeson in the cast of Paramount's new spin on The Naked Gun.
The 1988 original saw David Zucker, brother Jerry, Jim Abrahams and co-writer Pat Proft turn their short-lived comedy series Police Squad! into a movie. It was an instant comedy hit, Leslie Nielsen's iconic central performance cementing his transformation from dramatic actor to comedy legend as Detective Frank Drebin.
Two sequels followed to diminishing returns (though there are still good gags to be enjoyed in both), but we started to hear rumours of a remake in development years ago. That went through a few versions — Ed Helms was attached to star for while — and more recently, Seth MacFarlane has been involved,...

Despite being one of the most recognizable animated sitcoms on TV, Patrick Warburton revealed that his parents have always absolutely hated “Family Guy” — so much so, that his mother once tried to cancel the show entirely.
“They hate it even more today than they did 25 years ago,” Warburton said in front of a crowd at PaleyFest on Friday.
The panel — which also included creator Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Arif Zahir, Jennifer Tilly and showrunners Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin — was discussing their favorite moments from the show’s 22 seasons on Fox. That’s when Warburton admitted that his family’s spiritual values don’t quite align with the content featured in the adult cartoon.
“You come from a fairly religious family. Are they all huge ‘Family Guy’ fans?” Appel asked initially, which led Warburton to recall his childhood growing up in a devout Christian household.

“Family Guy” creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane shared insight at PaleyFest on whether or not the Griffin family will ever make it to the big screen in a full-length feature film. The show’s cast also brought the house down Friday with a live table read of upcoming episode “The Edible Arrangement” and nine performances of musical classics from the series as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Without giving too much of the goodness away, the episode the cast did a table read for — written by Travis Bowe — is titled “The Edible Arrangement.” It’s centered on Lois and Stewie bonding after consuming a few of Brian’s weed-infused gummies. The episode features the first time Lois has ever heard Stewie talk, which provides Stewie with the perfect opportunity to tell her all about his old plot to murder her.

Our dear lord and savior returns to Family Guy in the Season 22 finale. At this point, Jesus has made so many appearances that he might just move in with The Griffins. It's been a while since he's appeared to clarify some things or respond when he's called upon, but tonight he returns in an epic time-travel episode. In an interview with TV Insider, showrunners Richard Appel and Alec Sulkin previewed the season finale, which airs tonight on Fox, and what Jesus has to do with it all.

"Familly Guy" is more than a show at this point. 25 years into its long run on television, it's a straight-up, locked-in part of the larger pop culture fabric. It's similar to "The Simpsons" in that way. But as the show is in the midst of its 22nd season, with a 23rd on the way, are we getting close to wrapping it up with the Griffin family? Creator Seth MacFarlane certainly doesn't seem to think there is any good reason to end it any time soon.
The Los Angeles Times recently caught up with MacFarlane, as well as the showrunners and members of the cast, to celebrate 25 years of "Family Guy." MacFarlane, who voices a number of characters on the show including Peter, Stewie, and Quagmire, among others, was asked whether he believes the show could run for another 25 years. Oh, God. The enfant terrible of animated comedies is delivering unto us a Season 22 finale of biblical proportions. Because after Family Guy’s near-quarter of a century on the air, nothing is sacred! “I never thought I’d hear myself say this as a writer,” confesses Richard Appel, a showrunner alongside Alec Sulkin, “but the Standards and Practices department at Fox is easy to work with and pretty good with us.” Due in part to the sheer success of the cartoon, as well as its consistent ability to push the envelope without inspiring boycotts (anymore), Guy has gotten away with decades of gags other shows wouldn’t dare to attempt—like tonight’s trip back to the days of Jesus. A travesty, you say? Even the respected drama The Chosen has a sense of humor—witness its Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) cracking jokes! The episode kicks off with Brian the dog...

A Million Ways to Die in the West fell short despite a great cast and concept, highlighting MacFarlane's missteps. MacFarlane struggled to carry a live-action film, overestimating his ability to connect with the audience as himself. Despite some standout performances, the film's forced humor and lack of direction made it an outlier in MacFarlane's portfolio.
Seth MacFarlane is many things to many people. He's a comedian, singer, writer, producer, and director. He's also a guy who loves to lampoon popular culture and show us just how stupid our ideals and heroes really are. This was the case with A Million Ways to Die in the West. Westerns, to be fair, are often stupid.
MacFarlane chose to tell his story in much the same way that other Westerns do. His film is a send-up of the genre, much in the vein of Blazing Saddles. However, it does have a boatload of...

When it was announced that a straight-to-video sequel called The Naked Gun 4: Rhythm of Evil was moving ahead in 2009 with none of the original creative team involved, that original creative team didn’t react well. That movie didn’t make it into production, but now that a reboot of The Naked Gun is moving forward at Paramount with Akiva Schaffer set to direct the film from a screenplay by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, Mark Hentemann, Alec Sulkin, and producer Seth MacFarlane,...

"Family Guy" has been on the air for nearly 25 years (with a couple of brief breaks in the early days) with 400 episodes -- and counting -- to its name. The show has become such a staple of television at this point that it's hard to picture pop culture without it. In all of the years of adventures with Brian and Stewie, cutaway gags, and buffoonery with Peter, few things have ever made as much of an impact as the "Star Wars" parody episodes. Dubbed the "Laugh It Up, Fuzzball" trilogy, the episodes parodied George Lucas' original trilogy in a fashion that was both hilarious and loving. For those looking to revisit these gems, we're here to give you a very easy viewing guide.

American Dad directors and creatives stepped in for voiceover cast and key creatives today on San Diego Comic-Con to tease the upcoming season on TBS. The session kicked off with Innerspace parodied episode airing on Sept. 4, in which Francine, Stan’s wife, shrinks down into a small spaceship and takes a ride through Stan’s body; a battle with spiders ensues.
Asked about the Christmas episode this year, director Brent Woods said that Santa is making an appearance as Stan’s family is “transported into a different place, we have fun with them looking like CGI animation.”
One fan asked if B12, the boy band which was assembled by Snot’s uncle. That’s still Tbd.
Another fan raised the question to the panel today in Ballroom 20 as to how the show deals with the network’s standards and practices.
Director Jen Graves revealed that there’s an upcoming script...
