Popular ABC crime drama High Potential recently wrapped its first season and the finale did not disappoint. The episode ended by setting up a villain story arc for Season 2.

The episode, titled "Let's Play," pushed the LAPD to its limits as Morgan and the team tried to catch a criminal mastermind. Due to several false leads, the wrong person ended up on their radar while the real bad guy (played by David Giuntoli) roamed free. Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Todd Harthan explained that the mystery character may be the focus in the next season. "I love a good serialized villain," he said. "I also love going into a Season 2 where there might be another surprise or two, so it’s a bit of an open box."

ABC has not confirmed the cast list at this time, but we’d all but guarantee that Kaitlin Olson and Daniel Sunjata will for sure be back. Amirah J also confirmed she will return as Ava, which means we’d imagine Matthew Lamb will also be back as Elliot.

Amirah shared with ABC about season 2, “I’m really excited just to kind of see more about her upbringing and kind of what her life was like when it was just her and Morgan for those few years before her siblings came, and just really see how that has kind of shaped her into who she is now.

High Potential was fortunately renewed for a second season, but unfortunately, will be wrapping up season one very soon.

Featuring Olson, who's best known for her role in the hit comedy series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, High Potential premiered its freshman season on ABC in September. Per Variety, it's now been revealed that ABC has gone ahead and renewed High Potential for Season 2. ABC has handed an early Season 2 renewal to its breakout new crime drama High Potential. The light procedural starring Kaitlin Olson joins ABC’s flagship comedy Abbott Elementary in securing a spot on the network’s 2025-26 schedule. High Potential also joins the other standout 2024-25 freshman drama, CBS’ Matlock, in landing an early Season 2 renewal. Both were series originally ordered for last season but delayed due of the strikes.

The size of High Potential‘s Season 2 order is Tbd but is expected to be larger than Season 1, which consists of 13 episodes. Kaitlin Olson will return to screens as Morgan in a second season of “High Potential.”

ABC has granted a Season 2 renewal to “High Potential” for the 2025-26 broadcast season, the network announced Tuesday. The news comes on the heels of the network renewing “Abbott Elementary” for a fifth season.

In “High Potential,” Olson, who can also be seen in Max’s “Hacks” and Fxx’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” stars as Morgan, a single mom with a unique knack for solving crimes. When her talent is noticed by the LAPD during a janitorial shift, Morgan is asked to join the force as a consultant where solving crimes becomes her everyday gig.

After “High Potential” left on a tense fall finale, the show’s winter return on Jan. 7 became the show’s highest-rated episode ever among both total viewers and in the key broadcast demo among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen live-plus-seven-day multiplatform viewing figures,...

After living up to its, uh, potential through the first half of this season, ABC’s High Potential is getting a second.

The network has renewed the Kaitlin Olson-led drama for a second season in 2025-26. High Potential has been a breakout for ABC, ranking among the top first-year series of 2024-25 so far and drawing strong streaming numbers in addition to its on-air ratings.

The first two episodes of the series averaged better than 10 million cross-platform viewers after seven days, with streaming making up more than a third of that total. ABC says the pilot episode’s audience has grown to more than 30 million in the four months since it debuted.

There is a reason certain Christmas movies stand the test of time and return year after year, and also a reason the Hallmark-style factory-made product is easily forgotten. “High Potential” has grown its audience by 19% in its third week on ABC, TheWrap can reveal exclusively.

Episode 3 of the Kaitlin Olson-led procedural scored 8.74 million viewers in its first three days of viewing across ABC, Hulu and Hulu on Disney+, according to Nielsen live-plus-three-day viewing figures. That’s up from the live-plus-three-day multiplatform for the series premiere, which scored 7.32 million viewers.

The third episode, which aired on Oct. 8, also posted a 17% increase in ratings, with the series premiere scoring a 1.33 live-plus-three-day rating in the key broadcast demo among adults 18-49 while Episode 3 brought in a 1.56 rating.

Led by It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Kaitlin Olson, the series had soft live ratings while it aired following the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars, but it saw a big boost when digital platforms, Hulu and Disney+, were factored into its premiere ratings.

Per Variety, the series premiere of High Potential jumped a massive 220 percent from 3.5 million viewers to 11.5 million viewers after three days of viewing across all platforms, including Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. Even more impressive was its jump in the still very important for advertisers 18-49 demographic, where it surged 354 percent from a 0.35 rating to a 1.59 rating. These results are some of the highest for an ABC drama premiere since the premiere of Big Sky in 2020.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Kaitlin Olson stars in ABC’s new crime procedural High Potential. Debuting on September 17, 2024, the new drama based on the French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel snagged the prime premiere spot behind Dancing with the Stars.

The season one cast also includes Daniel Sunjata (Power Book II: Ghost) as Karadec, Javicia Leslie (Batwoman) as Daphne, and Deniz Akdeniz (The Flight Attendant) as Lev “Oz” Ozdil. Amirah J (Shameless) plays Ava, Matthew Lamb (Smile) is Elliot, and Judy Reyes (Succession) is Selena.

Exclusive: SNL alum Taran Killam has been tapped for a major recurring role opposite Kaitlin Olson in Drew Goddard’s ABC drama series High Potential.

Killam will play Ludo Radovic, the salt-of-the-earth, kind-hearted, and disarmingly funny ex of Morgan (Olson) and the father of Elliott (Matthew Lamb) and Chloe. As she consults for the LAPD, Morgan heavily leans on Ludo as the primary caregiver for Ava (Amira J), Elliott, and Chloe.

Todd Harthan has signed a new multi-year overall deal with 20th Television, Variety has learned exclusively.

The news comes roughly a month after Harthan was named the showrunner and executive producer of the upcoming ABC procedural “High Potential” starring Kaitlin Olson, which is produced by fellow Disney-owned studio ABC Signature. Harthan took over the role from Rob Thomas, who exited the show earlier in June.

Harthan has a relationship with 20th TV going back a decade. He previously collaborated with the studio as an executive producer on the Disney+ series “The Crossover,” executive producer and showrunner on the Fox medical drama “The Resident,” and creator, executive producer, and showrunner on the Fox series “Rosewood.” He was also an executive producer on the ABC spy drama “The Company You Keep.”

Harthan’s other credits include shows like “Psych,” “The Kill Point,” “Crash,” and “Dominion.”
