After the record-setting trailer for Superman knocked everyone's socks off last December, fans have waited anxiously for a new look at the highly-anticipated Dcu film. A Krypto-focused TV spot during the Puppy Bowl subsided the appetite for a little while, but as Superman nears its summer release date, another trailer is inevitable. It seems a preview of the upcoming James Gunn project is imminent, if a new rumor is to be trusted.
According to a post by a major Thailand theater chain, Superman will be getting a five-minute preview during showings for A Minecraft Movie, the next major blockbuster from Warner Bros. The film, which hits theaters on Apr. 4, will apparently carry a good chunk of new footage from Superman. The new rumor surfaces as speculation heats up on a new trailer releasing during CinemaCon next week, which aligns with the A Minecraft Movie release schedule. It is unclear if...

Good news: we finally have an update on when fans can expect to see some new footage from James Gunn's Superman. Bad news: the teaser is set to be released in Thailand.
It looks like a five-minute preview of the Dcu reboot will be attached to IMAX screenings of A Minecraft Movie, which is set to hit theaters in Thailand on April 3.
We don't have any other details just yet, but the length of the teaser has led to speculation that it might be the full opening scene of the movie. We'd say an extended clip along with some new trailer shots/vignettes is more likely.
It remains to be seen if plans for this preview will extend to the U.S. and other regions, but even if it doesn't, there's a pretty good chance it will leak online. If this preview doesn't find its way to us, a...

Much has been said about Superman's internal test screenings in recent weeks. Positives and negatives have been shared by those who claim to have seen it, though the consensus is largely good and points to this being a strong start for the Dcu in theaters.
That's not overly surprising given James Gunn's track record in the comic book movie realm, though the filmmaker's approach isn't to everyone's liking and that's called his suitability for a Clark Kent story into question.
Will Superman be more Guardians of the Galaxy than The Suicide Squad or entirely its own thing? That remains to be seen. Talking during The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider shared another brief update about what he's been hearing.
"I got a recent test screening report from somebody who saw it and, yeah, they liked it," he explained. "They thought David delivered as the Man of Steel. They thought...

DC Studios released the first Superman trailer last December and the sneak peek quickly broke viewership records.
With the reboot's July release date nearing, we anticipate seeing much more from the first Dcu movie in the weeks ahead. New trailers and posters are somewhere on the horizon and it surely won't be too long before Superman adorns the cover of Empire Magazine.
There's a lot of buzz on social media this morning as the DC Japan X account just shared the movie's logo along with the word "Tomorrow." When the post was published, it was around 7pm on Thursday evening in Japan, meaning something could be heading our way as soon as this Friday, March 21.
If so, we'd imagine the official U.S./global social accounts will soon chime in with their own teases. Alternatively, this might be as simple as Superman news somehow tied to Japan - an upcoming event or release date update,...

Superman is one of the year's most highly anticipated movies, so it's not exactly surprising to see so much buzz - both positive and negative - surrounding James Gunn's long-awaited reboot.
Test screenings have dominated the conversation in recent weeks and, in the latest edition of his newsletter, Jeff Sneider shared a few more details.
Chief among them is that he's heard Superman's current runtime is roughly 140 minutes. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was Gunn's longest movie at 150 minutes, while his Dceu debut, The Suicide Squad, was 132 minutes.
"I spoke to someone this weekend who has seen 'Superman,' and they really liked it," the insider explained. "They said David Corenswet delivers as the Man of Steel and that the 'jokey moments' I mentioned on my podcast, 'The Hot Mic,' were initially viewed out of context, but worked much better within the flow of the edit.

At the end of 2022, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker director James Gunn was named co-ceo of DC Studios alongside veteran producer Peter Safran.
Gunn is believed to be focusing primarily on the creative side of the Dcu and, provided nothing goes disastrously wrong, is expected to remain in his first executive role for anywhere up to a decade. The filmmaker has already worked on Creature Commandos and Peacemaker season 2 and is currently in post-production on Superman.
According to a new report from Puck, Gunn is one of many industry figures who have hybrid deals covering their creative and executive duties. In Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige's case, for example, he's likely paid separately for his President and executive producer positions.
Gunn, meanwhile, looks set to score as many as three paydays for his work on Superman.

Along with David Corenswet's Clark Kent, and a smattering of other DC heroes and villains, James Gunn's Superman will also introduce the Green Lanterns to the DC Universe through Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner. Casual comic book fans may know the name Hal Jordan, thanks to the panned Ryan Reynolds-led Green Lantern movie, but Gardner couldn't be more different. While Guy Gardner is a hero and a very strong member of the Green Lantern Corp, Nathan Fillion recently revealed he's not the typical superhero you're used to.
During an interview with TV Guide, Nathan Fillion hyped up Guy Gardner's big-screen debut in Superman, and clued audiences in on what to expect from the extremely arrogant Green Lantern member. "You don't have to be good to be a Green Lantern," Fillion began. "You just have to be fearless." As well as the power bestowed upon him from his...

Superman star Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner in the upcoming reboot, delved into his character. This comes after the film'swriter-director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn shared a new look at Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific on the Superman set.
Fillion talked about his character in an interview with TV Guide, stating, "He's a jerk! What's important to know is, you don't have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless. So Guy Gardner is fearless, and he is not very good. He's not nice, which is very freeing as an actor because you just think to yourself, what is the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do in this moment? And that's the answer. That's what you do in that moment. I think if he has a superpower, it might be his overconfidence, in that he thinks he could take on Superman.

Nathan Fillion is set to play Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the upcoming “Superman” movie, directed by James Gunn. In recent interviews, the actor shared insights about his character, revealing a fresh take on the iconic DC hero. Unlike other Green Lanterns fans may know, Fillion’s Gardner stands out for his rough personality and fearless attitude.
Fillion explained what makes his Guy Gardner unique. “He’s a jerk!” he said. “What’s important to know is, you don’t have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless. Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy's stint as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chiefs has been a disaster. Outside of the odd hit like Barbie, the studio continues to release movies that regularly underperform, with Mickey 17 the latest example.
Joker: Folie à Deux was another colossal mistake. With Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav looking to cut costs and make movies on the cheap, Luca and Abdy allowed Todd Phillips to essentially rip them off for $200 million so he could shoot a lavish sequel meant to satisfy his and Joaquin Phoenix's desire for a musical.
According to a new report from Puck, Zaslav - an unpopular figure in Hollywood after he scrapped movies like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme mid-production - is considering replacing Luca and Abdy.
One top contender is DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran, meaning James Gunn would be left as the sole head of that studio.

A new behind-the-scenes snap from James Gunn's Supermanmovie showcases perhaps the most faithful comic-to-film costume I've ever seen. The design shows that Gunn understands what makes the DC Universe so special and, crucially, its big difference to Marvel. That's really important if Gunn's Dcu is going to find its own identity and place in a market ruled by the MCU.
There's a reason that comic fans like me are so thrilled to see that writing on his arm.
In a post shared on X, Gunn wishes happy birthday to Edi Gathegi, who is playing Michael Holt - aka the super-genius Mister Terrific - in the upcoming Superman movie, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Director James Gunn provides a new glimpse at Superman's cast with a behind-the-scenes picture of Rachel Bronsahan's Lois Lane, Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific, and himself filming the upcoming Dcu movie. Superman's star-studded cast of characters includes mainstay Superman icons such as Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, as well as other DC characters who have never appeared in a live-action movie before. Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific, in particular, is a fresh addition to the Dcu, as the character only has one previous live-action adaptation.

In the caption, Gunn wrote: “Happy Anniversary to the Engineer, created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, who you can see played to sinister perfection by puppy in human form Gaby de Faria in #Superman this July!“
The behind-the-scenes photo isn’t particularly revealing, but it does give us another look at the Engineer’s costume. The location is the same one we saw in the teaser trailer, in which Superman is battling a different black-suited character. Speaking of that teaser, it became the most viewed and talked about trailer in the history of DC of Warner Bros. when it was viewed over 250 million times in the first 24 hours after its release.

Edi Gathegi looks absolutely terrific in a behind-the-scenes snapshot of his time spent filming Superman. The image comes from the production’s director, James Gunn, who took a moment to share his birthday wishes for the actor on his social media page. The post in question shows the pair engaging in a conversation on the set of the David Corenswet-led film, which is due out on screens on July 11. Decked out in his get-up, Gathegi is rocking the look of Michael Holt aka Mister Terrific, complete with the character’s black, red, and white ensemble, which looks absolutely miserable to be wearing in what appears to be oppressive heat.

As reactions (good and bad) from supposed test screenings continue to dominate the conversation online, Superman director James Gunn has just shared a new look at the Dcu's Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi).
It doesn't tell us a great deal about what to expect from these characters. However, it appears to be the same scene from the trailer where Terrific was shown protecting Lois from a squad of what looked to be Lex Luthor's green and purple-clad soldiers.
Last December, Gunn said Mr. Terrific is the "main character of those [superhero supporting] characters" and added, "I think it was just who I wanted to really, honestly. I love Mr. Terrific. These characters all get their moment in the sun. They all have their moments. They're not just cameos, these are the characters."

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics file for dismissal of a pending lawsuit regarding Supermanin film.
Per Variety, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics filed a motion to dismiss on Wednesday, March 5, in the hopes of dismissing the pending lawsuit brought about by Mark Peary, nephew of the late Superman co-creator Joe Shuster. Peary's suit was filed in January, and seeks to invalidate Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios' Superman copyrights in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Ireland. The motion to dismiss alleges that Peary's mother, Jean Peavy, signed away the rights to Superman in 1992, shortly after Shuster's passing that same year.
Studio attorney Daniel Petrocelli said of the case, "Peary's complaint fails on every ground." Petrocelli elaborated, "There are no carve-outs in the controlling 1992 agreement for any foreign copyrights, much less for the copyrights in the 10 countries Peary now alleges in the Complaint." In January, Warner Bros. found itself at the center of a lawsuit that could potentially block James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie from being released in foreign territories. Mark Peary, nephew of late Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, filed the lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, DC Studios, and DC Comics, arguing they don’t have the rights to release Superman in many key territories outside the U.S.
As you might expect, Warner Bros. is fighting back. The studio has now filed a motion to dismiss, claiming that courts have already rejected Peary’s claims after his mother, Jean Peavy, signed away all rights after Schuster’s death in 1992. “Peary’s complaint fails on every ground,” said Warner Bros.’ attorney Daniel Petrocelli.

Most DC fans (aside from the Zack Snyder diehards) are desperate for Superman to be a hit and revitalize the DC Universe on the big screen after years of divisive movies. The first test screenings of James Gunn's latest film have already happened, with the director confirming that some minor reshoots will be taking place before its theatrical release on July 11, 2026. But, fans are desperate to know what the first test audiences are saying about the film. Two reports have been released supposedly quoting the test screening viewers, and the reactions couldn't be more juxtaposed.
The first report comes via "insider" Jeff Sneider. On his The Hot Mic podcast, Sneider revealed that one of his sources had nothing but bad things...

We're just a few months away from David Corenswet making his Dcu debut in James Gunn's Superman, and fans cannot wait to see what Gunn and the Dcu have in store for its first feature film outing. But what will happen after Superman? How long can we expect Corenswet's Man of Steel to stick around? Superman will open the doors for the wider Dcu, with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow following things up when it releases in 2026. A recent report also suggested that the Dcu is preparing for a big-screen team-up, potentially involving the Justice League. But will Superman still be a part of it?
During an interview with Esquire España, Corenswet was asked about his Dcu future following Superman. The actor revealed that Superman's (and his) future remains uncertain, as it is down to James Gunn deciding when the character should appear next. "I don't think it's up to me to answer that,...

A lot hinges on Superman being a hit this summer. If the movie fails, then it won't be good for DC Studios and could bring a swift end to the Dcu - beyond the projects already being shot - before it even gets started.
It's doubtful that Superman will bomb but certainly not impossible. Superhero fatigue does appear to have set in among moviegoers and the DC brand has been badly damaged by Dceu projects like Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.
During a recent interview with Esquire España (translated by Cbr), Superman lead star David Corenswet was asked about his Dcu future and largely shrugged off the question.
"I don't think it's up to me to answer that," he told the site. "It's up to James Gunn, who has a terrific imagination, and he is just there where they need [him] to be to say what was written,...

Davi Alves had David Corenswet's Superman meet Shaquille O'Neal's Steel in a piece of Superman fan art. This comes after Superman writer-director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn touched upon test screenings and reshoots for the Last Son of Krypton's newest cinematic outing.
The artwork in question (via X) sees Superman and Steel in front of a yellow background with a title card above them that reads, "Superman meets Steel." Prior to this, Alves turned the Superman trailer opening into a comic page in February.

Playing Superman is a big responsibility, as several well-known actors would tell you. Whether it was the legendary Christopher Reeves' performance that would set a new precedent for that man of tomorrow, Brandon Routh's evocation of that in Superman Returns, or Henry Cavill's more subdued performance in Zack Snyder's Dceu, there are plenty of examples of how each actor has chosen to embody such an iconic character. In the case of David Corenswet, who is set to make his debut as the character in James Gunn's Superman film, due for release in July 2025, the actor has one interesting approach to portraying the last son of Krypton.
In an interview with Esquire, Corenswet was asked if there were any times of uncertainty about playing a character as iconic as Superman. The actor replied, “In times of doubt, I’d ask myself, 'How would Harrison Ford say this?...

The DC Universe is about to introduce David Corenwswet as the Man of Steel when Superman flies into theaters on July 11. But before the Pearl star got the role, several other high-profile actors auditioned for the part – including Patrick Schwarzenegger. The actor and son of Arnold Schwarzenegger currently stars in Season 3 of HBO's The White Lotus, and even has another superhero franchise under his belt, having appeared in the first season of Prime Video's Gen V. But as Schwarzenegger recalls, he came close to adding the Dcu to his increasingly impressive filmography.

As is so often the case, we've now heard good and bad things from Superman's early internal test screenings. It's always best to take chatter like that with a pinch of salt, though we perhaps shouldn't be surprised that the reboot is drawing mixed reviews.
While filmmaker James Gunn has a great track record, the Man of Steel isn't a character it's easy to make relevant in today's world. The hero is viewed as overpowered and old-fashioned by some, meaning even the best Superman movie is unlikely to strike a chord with them.

Let me start by quickly highlighting a piece I did back in December. In I Think James Gunn Needs to Slow Down Before He Repeats the Mistakes of the Dceu, my point was to bring to your attention how the new Dcu was already starting to replicate the old Dceu by announcing numerous movies that weren’t even on the Gods and Monsters slate — Teen Titans, Clayface, Sgt. Rock, Deathstroke and Bane, etc. Let’s now fast-forward to February 21. On this day, there was a small meeting between Gunn, Safran, and members of the press at the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank, California — lots of updates and lots of details on upcoming projects.
It sounds like Gods and Monsters is being changed to Monsters... and whatever else we can get quickly working on the side. Aside from Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, everything else seems to either be up...

Supermanwill kick off a new franchise in Warner Bros.' DC Studios, which will include movies and TV shows in Dcu's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The upcoming franchise has unveiled some of the titles in the first part, but it's unclear how it will all blend together.
James Gunn, DC Studio's co-ceo alongside Peter Safran, wrote and directed the upcoming Superman, which will not mark the character's origin story, but will start the story right in the center of the action. This time, the character is played by David Corenswet, who will make his debut as the titular superhero this summer. With less than five months to go until Superman hits theaters, writer-director James Gunn has shared a new look at the DC Universe movie. The image was taken exactly one year ago, on Feb. 28, 2024, a day before production officially began on the Superman reboot.
Gunn, who is also co-ceo of DC Studios, shared the throwback image on his social media platforms, including X. The image is a close look at Superman's red boots, which are shown standing in the Norwegian snow. "One year ago today. Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Faster than a speeding bullet toward July 11, 2025," Gunn captioned the post, which can be viewed below.

David Corenswet is the latest person to play DC Comics fan-favorite character Clark Kent/ Superman in the first film of the upcoming DC Universe, James Gunn's Superman. The actor is following in Henry Cavill's footsteps, who played the Man of Steel in Zack Snyder's Dceu.

Last December, it was reported that internal test screenings of Superman had taken place at Warner Bros. Discovery/DC Studios. At the time, we heard "[the] buzz is not good" and that there were concerns about how the reboot was taking shape.
That's supposedly why reshoots took place at the end of 2024, though James Gunn has said those are "pickup shots" consisting of, "No scenes. No reshoots." Superman's tone has also been compared to Captain America: The First Avenger and The Mummy.
Now, we have another update from Jeff Sneider. Apparently, the most recent cut of Superman received great feedback and performed far better than those initial early screenings.
The whole reason those take place is to figure out what isn't working early on and, with Gunn clearly taking the negative feedback on board, it appears the first Dcu movie has benefited greatly. That bodes well for what we'll see in theaters this summer.

James Gunn seems to have taken to his new role as co-ceo of DC Studios with ease, and is about to face the real first test of the revamped Dcu with this summer’s release of Superman. However, behind the scenes, it is not unfair to say that challenges are being faced every day to iron out creases, weed out potentially disappointing scripting and production results, and ensure what makes it to screens is the best it can be. And Gunn already knows that he, his fellow co-ceo, and their extended team will not get everything right.
Superman is in the can and ready to roll out this July, but during the recent press event for DC Studio’s upcoming slate, Gunn explained that there are some exciting things to come – including an unannounced series he calls his favorite project to date – but he also knows that there are already small things that he regrets.

James Gunn's Superman is heading to theaters this summer, several months into the second presidential term of Donald Trump. Though the film is arriving when there's a lot of political discourse in America, Gunn feels that it's a good time for his Superman film to be released.
Per Variety, Gunn was asked about what made his version of Superman "right for the current cultural moment." Gunn clarified that his Man of Steel, played by David Corenswet in the upcoming film, isn't part of the "cultural moment," suggesting there's nothing in the film that is directly inspired by any recent happenings in U.S. politics. Gunn clarified that his Man of Steel, played by David Corenswet in the upcoming film, isn't part of the "cultural moment," suggesting there's nothing in the film that is directly inspired by any recent happenings in U.S. politics. He went on to explain what it is that Superman stands for, noting how his code is something that's never changed over the years.

James Gunn has confirmed DC Studios is hitting pause on production of The Authority as he and other studio head Peter Safran recalibrate the Dcu production slate entirely. The ambitious team-up adapting Warren Ellis' antihero squad, originally slated to follow Superman's July debut, now faces indefinite delays, despite some Authority characters making their first Dcu appearances in Gunn's upcoming reboot.
"It's a very, very big movie, if you're going to do The Authority properly... some story elements perhaps that are in Superman and some of the other films that we've fast-tracked step a little bit on The Authority," Safran explained during DC's latest industry briefing with Variety, with Gunn also conceding, "It hasn't been made a priority."

The Dcu news has been coming fast and furious recently. Superman director and Dcu co-mastermind James Gunn praised Mike Flanagan's script for the upcoming Clayface movie, while Daniel Craig unexpectedly left Sgt. Rock. However, there is a lot of speculation about what Gunn's next directorial effort will be. During his and co-chief Peter Safran's DC Studios Panel to update on all things Dcu, Gunn gave a vague answer about this next project:
"I'm writing and directing something else that would be the next directing thing. It's about... it's connected."
Given that answer, fans and others are speculating we could get a proper World's Finest movie featuring Superman and Batman. And after the terrible Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, a Gunn directed Batman and Superman movie would be a great palette cleanser. For decades, DC Comics had Batman and Superman team-up comics under the World's Finest title,...

DC fans visiting San Diego Comic-Con might want to keep their expectations in check as there might not be any big Dcu news or events, according to Peter Safran.
Comic-Con 2024 was seen as a big return to form for various studios after the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes impacted the previous year. While Marvel Studios notably had a significant presence at Comic-Con 2024, breaking the internet with the announcement that Robert Doweny Jr. would be playing Doctor Doom, DC Studios sat out the big event. Aside from revealing the DC Studios logo and showing the first teaser for Creature Commandos, there was no significant Hall H presence for Superman or other Dcu titles.
That trend will seemingly continue in 2025. During a press conference on the state of the Dcu slate, Variety reports that DC Studios co-president Peter Safran said that the studio will not have a "significant presence" at San Diego Comic-Con...

DC Studios has confirmed that a Sgt. Rock movie is in the works for the DC Universe. The confirmation came after studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran were asked about Daniel Craig's departure from the World War II movie.
Per Variety, Gunn and Safran recently held a press event for DC Studios' upcoming film and television slate. When the topic of Craig exiting Sgt. Rock came up; Safran clarified that the James Bond actor "was never attached" to the movie, so he couldn't have dropped out. The DC head went on to explain that the actor had merely been floated as a possible candidate for the role due to having just appeared in Sgt. Rock director Luca Guadagnino's previous film, Queer. "But, you know, we never met with Daniel. He was just an idea," Safran said, with Gunn adding, "Well, we never really even announced Sgt. Rock.

When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as the Co-Chairmen of DC Studios, they made their goal as clear as possible: to build an interconnected universe of movies and television projects across various mediums. Not only that, but Gunn and Safran also wanted to also ensure that every project is standalone, and could be enjoyed without having to watch a previous film or television show before it. However, one can't help but wonder to what end this first chapter in the new Dcu, titled Gods and Monsters, is headed towards. In a press conference providing updates on various DC projects, Gunn briefly discussed the possibility of a Justice League film down the line.
Per Variety's report at the conference, Gunn revealed that there is a tentative six-year plan for the development of various projects that would eventually lead to an Avengers-style team-up movie. Gunn, who is as cautious as ever,...
