Real heads know that Lucy Dacus is very good at covers. So good, in fact, that Lady Gaga has praised her recent rendition of “Abracadabra.”
Dacus, fresh off the release of her new album Forever Is a Feeling, recently went on BBC Radio 1 and covered Gaga’s Mayhem hit. Dacus stripped down the shiny pop stunner, supplying her buttery, smoky vocals to a ghostly tempo.
Hearing the cover on the BBC’s TikTok account, Gaga commented, “I Love this so much wow.” Alongside a crying emoji, she added that...

Lucy Dacus has been getting deep in touch with her emotions in anticipation of her fourth studio album, Forever Is a Feeling, out March 28. Early singles from the record, like “Limerence” and “Ankles,” delve into euphoric, complicated emotions. But on the latest installation of Rolling Stone Recommends, the musician taps into the more feral feelings that come with playing competitive card games with friends, the idea of being monstrously hungry on Survivor, and recovering from watching David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.

Lucy Dacus Unveils New Video for “Best Guess” Starring Cara Delevigne, Muna’s Naomi McPherson: Watch
In early January, Lucy Dacus put out a casting call for “hot mascs” to be featured in an upcoming music video. Now, the artist has shared the result of those efforts: a self-directed visual for her new song, “Best Guess,” the latest preview of her upcoming album, Forever Is a Feeling. Watch the clip below.

A riff on ’90s Calvin Klein ads, the video co-stars Cara Delevigne, Muna’s Naomi McPherson, Towa Bird, ER Fightmaster, and more as they bring “Best Guess” to life. Described in a press release as “an anthem of queer tenderness,” the song captures the feeling of taking a chance on a relationship with lyrics like: “If this doesn’t work out/ I would lose my mind/ And after a while/ I will be fine/ But I don’t wanna be fine/ I want you.”

Lucy Dacus went on a social media hunt in January for “hot mascs,” or people who are smooth and suave enough to pretend to be hot mascs, to appear in the music video for her new single “Best Guess.” The submissions in response to her TikTok open call flowed in and as the “Best Guess” video arrives, the Lucy Ducus Hot Masc Convention has convened.
“Best Guess” features appearances from Naomi McPherson, Cara Delevingne, Towa Bird, and E.R. Fightmaster. But most of the people featured in the visual were fans Dacus found online.

2024 was a packed year for several actors working in Hollywood, whether they are continuously rising stars or already well-established names in the industry. The year had plenty of noteworthy character-driven dramas, animated features, chaotic comedies, and big-budget blockbusters to keep audiences entertained. More importantly, these actors proved their capability of playing two different types of characters.
For example, multiple actors from the enthralling and visually stunning Dune: Part Two, like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Austin Butler, also appeared in acclaimed and award-worthy dramas in the same year. They are just a few of many actors who stole the show in 2024 with their commanding screen presence and shockingly good versatility. From newcomers like Cailee Spaeny to big-name stars like Chris Hemsworth, 2024 was a spectacular year for these particular performers.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series that shines a spotlight on the scripts for this year’s buzziest films is now pointing the viewfinder on Saturday Night, the Jason Reitman-directed film that tells the origin story of NBC’s venerable late-night franchise by focusing on the 90 minutes leading up to its TV debut.
The flick written by Reitman and Gil Kenan takes place on October 11, 1975, when an ambitious troupe of young comedians and writers would go on to change television forever. Formerly titled SNL 1975 (that’s the title on the script), the film tells the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night leading up to the first-ever broadcast of SNL.
The movie stars Gabriel Labelle as SNL honcho Lorne Michaels, Dylan O’Brien (as Dan Aykroyd), Cory Michael Smith (Chevy Chase), Rachel Sennott (Rosie Shuster), Lamorne Morris (Garrett Morris), Nicholas Braun (Jim Henson), Finn Wolfhard (NBC...

Muna’s Katie Gavin took a softer approach to Madonna’s pop classic “Like a Prayer” during a live recording at SiriusXM’s The Coffee House. In support of her debut album What a Relief, Gavin also performed three songs off of her latest LP: “Aftertaste,” “Today,” and “Inconsolable.”
Gavin’s cover of “Like a Prayer” traded Madonna’s high-energy pop sound for a more tender, indie-inspired approach. Strumming an acoustic guitar, with support from an electric guitarist, Gavin sweetly sang the 1989 single’s warm chorus, “When you call my...

2024 has been a year packed with great cinema from all different genres. Some of the years biggest hits have also been the most financially successful, like Dune: Part Two, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Deadpool & Wolverine. However, unfortunately, many other great films have fallen by the popularity wayside.
Every year brings a number of films that dont live up to financial or critical expectations, but there are also a lot of films that simply dont spark huge love from audiences. These films are absolutely not failures; they are completely underrated and deserve a second look.

Saturday Night Live is one of the longest-running TV shows of all time, but its premiere episode was filled with production problems that should have doomed the series from the start. And this year, Jason Reitman tells the story of that tumultuous and chaotic night with Saturday Night.

Columbia Pictures’ Saturday Night from Jason Reitman debuted at $265k, a great $53k per theater that’s the second-best limited opening of the year, and the best since June when Kinds Of Kindness also opened in 5 theaters (to a $75k PTA). It’s been a long a slightly dower wait for something to pop.
Saturday Night made $108K on Friday, $88K on Saturday and a projected $69K on Sunday in LA and New York. Expands Oct. 4 before opening wide on Oct 11 and looks well set up for a nice theatrical run with strong reviews and word of mouth since premiering at Telluride and Toronto.

Sony is ramping up its award campaign plans for filmmaker Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night Live movie, a dramatic recreation of the 90 minutes leading up to the iconic NBC show’s first episode in the mid-1970s.
The studio announced late Thursday that it will release Saturday Night in select theaters on Sept. 27 in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, followed by another expansion on Oct. 4. It will then open nationwide on Oct. 22 as originally planned.
The move gives Sony and the filmmakers a chance to use word of mouth to build anticipation for the movie, which was one of the most buzzed-about titles at the Telluride Film Festival, which is considered ground zero for assessing the awards landscape.

The debut night for Saturday Night Live was no walk in the park, as seen in the trailer for Jason Reitman’s forthcoming movie about the NBC sketch show’s origins.
Sony Pictures released the first trailer for Saturday Night ahead of its Oct. 11 theatrical release. Reitman helmed the feature that focuses on the behind-the-scenes moments leading up to SNL’s premiere broadcast that aired Oct. 11, 1975.
The trailer highlights the chaos that transpired over the course of the final 90 minutes prior to the start of that first-ever episode. This includes a tense exchange between series creator Lorne Michaels (played by Gabriel Labelle) and NBC executive Dick Ebersol (Cooper Hoffman).
Ebersol says in the footage, “Lorne, 90 minutes of live television by a group of 20-year-olds who have never made anything? Do you every stop and wonder why they said yes [to] a counterculture show starring total unknowns, with zero narrative and even less structure?...

Live from New York, it’s the first Saturday night! The trailer for Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night” has been released, and with it comes a nerve-wracking look at the chaotic 90 minutes that led up to the first “SNL” broadcast. Reitman and Gil Kenan penned the screenplay together.
The trailer for the film finds SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels, played by “The Fabelmans” breakout Gabriel Labelle, fighting tooth and nail to get the show off the ground smoothly. It doesn’t seem to be going well. Standing in his way are unpredictable cast members and nagging studio executives. At one point Michaels yells with passion: “NBC is lucky enough to have something as relevant as this show!”
The first broadcast of “SNL” took place on Oct. 11, 1975. The episode was hosted by comedian George Carlin and featured musical guests Billy Preston and Janis Ian. Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin,...

Although Saturday Night Live is the institution that it is now and remains divisive with audiences, Jason Reitman will be bringing the story of the original plucky cast of SNL from 1975 as he directed and co-wrote a screenplay with Gil Keenan of the now-titled Saturday Night. Saturday Night will explore the evening of October 11, 1975, when “a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. Saturday Night is the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of NBC’s Saturday Night Live. It depicts the chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, counting down the minutes in real-time to the infamous words, ‘Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!’”

Jason Reitman has been working on his SNL film for a while now and it will now be known simply as Saturday Night. More on the film’s release below.
Saturday Night Live, or SNL, is probably one of the most iconic comedy shows of all time. The live sketch comedy variety show – try saying that five times fast – has been running since 1975 and is showing no signs of slowing down, so a feature film on it was an inevitability rather than a possibility.
In 2023, we learned that Jason Reitman was going to be directing a film based on SNL and writing it with Ghostbusters co-writer Gil Kenan. In March this year, we learned that Jk Simmons would appear in the film, but Sony Pictures has now updated the film’s name and given it a release date in the US.

Saturday Night Live will celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year, and there will surely be a bevy of famous faces showing up this Fall and next year to pat themselves and the show on the back. It's easy to be cynical about this, considering the dismal state of SNL in the past decade, and just as easy to forget how iconic the show once was. A new movie from director Jason Reitman is going to remind us of all that, and it's being released on the exact date that the very first episode of Saturday Night Live premiered, on October 11, 1975. Frost wanted to show how far the community has come and its defiant rejection of Florida’s increasingly right-wing tilt, with a mix of music and community building featuring appearances from indie artists and progressive politicos, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
But the festival would take an unexpected turn near the end, highlighting the mounting tensions between progressive...

Empress Of has announced her fourth studio album: For Your Consideration, due March 22nd. Today, along with the announcement, she shared the single “What’s Love” featuring Muna.
For Your Consideration will be Empress Of’s first full-length release since 2020’s I’m Your Empress Of, and follows 2022’s Save Me EP. Spanning 11 tracks, the new record’s press release explains that it will be “a bi-lingual album that embraces camp and fantasy playing with the idea of Hollywood.”
In a statement, Empress Of’s Lorely Rodriguez explained that the title of the album is a reference to an ex-lover. “I was in love with a director and he was announcing his ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign for the Oscars,” she said. “He took me up on a hill and said he was emotionally unavailable and he kind of broke my heart. I went into the studio that day and we wrote...

Muna and Boygenius formed the ultimate supergroup on Sunday evening when they joined forces to perform “Silk Chiffon” and “Salt in the Wound” during Boygenius’ headlining performance at London’s Gunnersbury Park.
During Muna’s set, Phoebe Bridgers stepped out first to assist on “Silk Chiffon,’ Muna’s first release on Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records. She’s already a featured artist on the song, so the real surprise was Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker also joining in on the performance. For “Salt in the Wound,” which Boygenius shared on their 2018 self-titled debut EP,...

Muna have unveiled their latest single, a funky pop bop entitled “One That Got Away.” They initially debuted the song at Coachella this past weekend, and they’ve now released its cinematic music video. Watch below.
Grounded by a booming kick-snare beat and a pulsing electro bass line, the song becomes a vehicle for the trio’s dancey pop style. In a statement, the band’s Katie Gavin said: “This song is just rubbing your hot ass in the face of someone who messed up their chance of being with you. It’s a bit vengeful and mean, but also fun. Fuck it.”
Continuing, Gavin explained how she and her bandmates — Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson — collaborated on the single: “Once I sent Naomi and Jo the demo, they really took the cockiness in the lyric and vocal performance and carried it to the extreme with the production of the track.

Muna decided to really challenge themselves during their appearance on triple j’s “Like a Version” cover series. The trio performed their own reimagining of Céline Dion’s enduring Titanic anthem “My Heart Will Go On.”
Although taking on a song like “My Heart Will Go On” is a pretty daunting feat, the members of Muna certainly didn’t try to replicate Dion, instead turning the sweeping, melodramatic ballad into a slightly twangy indie-pop number. Rather than scrambling for those high notes, vocalist Katie Gavin brings things down an octave, letting bandmates Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson fill out the sound with some gorgeous harmonies.
Complete with just the right amount of reverb, some nice piano arrangements, and a very sick slide-guitar solo near the song’s end, Muna turned “My Heart Will Go On” into something entirely their own. Watch their performance in the triple j studios below.
