Exclusive: British producer Or Media, which has made shows for the Saudi state broadcaster and BBC, along with Tom Hollander-starring docu-feature Path of Blood, has laid off 14% of its workforce and failed to pay freelancers to the tune of what sources estimate could be hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Deadline has spoken with half a dozen current and former Or Media staff, who paint a chaotic picture of a company in a tricky financial position. We have also seen emails from CFO Andrew Wallace to senior staff saying “we’re having difficult conversations with a large number of people” and urging them to be “alert to the risk of malicious rumor.”
An Or Media spokesman blamed a “major” unnamed UK client, which announced that “it was making significant and immediate cuts to its operations.” “Whilst not disputing its debts to us or its desire to continue commissioning films from us in the future,...

It didn’t take long after watching Jub Clerc’s Sweet As to see the comparison point my mind went to first (The Breakfast Club) was hardly an original thought. It’s an archetypal coming-of-age story for a reason. You see a mixed-bag group of troubled teens forced to confront their hardships during a mandated supervised excursion and allusions to John Hughes’ classic aren’t far behind. Whereas he could get away with making that group consist of white suburban kids with differing degrees of entitlement and affluence, however, today’s landscape needs a bit more complexity beyond chip-on-your-shoulder bullying. By setting their film in the Australian Outback, Clerc and co-writer Steve Rodgers talk about race, poverty, and exploitation atop that superficial baseline. Because these kids aren’t confronting privilege. They’re struggling to survive.

Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Perera undergoes surgery; Angelo Mathews sends heartfelt message
Colombo, Sep 2 (Ians) Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Perera has reportedly undergone a shoulder surgery in the United Kingdom, which will further delay his comeback to the side and has virtually ruled him out of the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November this year.
The 32-year-old veteran of 22 Tests, 107 ODIs and 60 T20Is posted an imaged of him recovering in a hospital bed, with teammate Angelo Mathews wishing him a speedy recovery. “Wishing you a speedy recovery champ @KusalJPerera,” tweeted Mathews.
Sri Lanka Cricket (Slc) had reportedly short-listed three doctors — in New Zealand, Australia and the UK — and Perera wanted to get treated by Andrew Wallace in England, a specialist in sports injuries who had also treated Sachin Tendulkar for his tennis elbow.
With the Icc T20 World Cup barely 45 days away it’s unlikely Perera will be fit for the global tournament, though Slc is yet to provide an update.
