Forget the fear of flying. In the upcoming six-episode thriller “Nightsleeper,” the real danger awaits on a train travelling from Glasgow to London.

Having grown up on the music of Kate Nash, it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to speak to the talented artist, to look across the release of Coffee Wars, where she takes a starring role as the vegan barista Jo, hoping to shake up the world of coffee making – and maybe change a few people’s perspectives along the way.

We spoke to Nash (and her dogs) on Zoom, to discuss her real life veganism, and her experiences making the switch. She also talks about her relationship with coffee, and looks back across her career, and her musical beginnings on MySpace. She also speaks about Netflix series Glow, and why she stills holds out some hope that one day a season four could be made.

An official trailer has debuted for an indie comedy called Coffee Wars, just a movie about baristas battling it out at a coffee competition. This hasn't premiered at any film festivals, as far as we know, and it will be out to watch in March on VOD. Coffee aficionado Jo is doing her best to keep her plant-based, independent, coffee shop afloat alongside her band of misfit employees. In a last-ditch effort to save her business, Jo and her team embark to battle it out as the underdogs competing in the World Barista Championship in order to finally have a chance to prove herself in the dairy-dominated world of coffee. The film stars Kate Nash as Jo, Toby Sebastian, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Owain Arthur, Maria Conchita Alonso, Jordan Stephens, Maya Savin Miller, Jenny Rainsford, and Freddie Fox.

Fans who are still grappling with Glow‘s unceremonious un-renewal well over two years ago now can at least get a small taste for what the Netflix wrestling comedy had on tap for its farewell run.

Mere weeks after dropping its third season in September 2019, Glow was picked up for a fourth and final run. One year/pandemic outbreak later, however, came word that due to various concerns — including budget and the precautions needed to keep the cast and crew of a wrestling series safe from the virus — production on Season 4 would not be completed.

Saturday Night Live fans have criticised the announcement that Dave Chappelle will host the series next week.

Chappelle has become a polarising figure in recent years, thanks to several jokes about transgender people in his recent stand-up specials that critics have described as transphobic.

Over the weekend, it was announced that Chappelle would be hosting the 12 November episode of the long-running US sketch show, with hip-hop duo Black Star appearing as musical guests.

Chappelle has hosted the show twice before, with his most recent hosting stint coming in November 2020, hours after Trump lost the presidential election to Joe Biden.

Nick Carter was seen breaking into tears on stage while the Backstreet Boys paid tribute to his late brother, Aaron.

Singer Aaron Carter died on Saturday 5 November at the age of 34. The artist’s family has said that a cause of death is currently “being investigated”.

Before the Backstreet Boys gig on Sunday night, Carter shared an emotional tribute to his late brother on Instagram.

Alongside a series of photographs of himself and his sibling, he wrote: “My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held onto the hope, that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.

Compton-based filmmaker Victor Gabriel is among a select group of filmmakers to punch their ticket for the Oscar race, after scoring wins at the HollyShorts Film Festival.

Gabriel’s 13-minute film Hallelujah won the Grand Prix for Best Short at the festival’s awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon. HollyShorts is an Oscar-qualifying festival, so the win for Hallelujah makes it immediately eligible for Oscar consideration. Producer Duran Jones won the festival’s Best Producer prize.

Two other winners qualified for Oscar consideration: Mulaqat/Sandstrom, directed by Seemab Gul, won Best Live Action short, and Scale, directed by Joseph Pierce, won the award for Best Animation (scroll for full list of winners).

Victor Gabriel’s “Hallelujah,” Seemab Gul’s “Mulaqat/Sandstorm” and Joseph Pierce’s “Scale” have won the top awards at the 2022 HollyShorts Film Festival, which presented its prizes on Saturday afternoon in Hollywood — thus qualifying for this year’s Academy Awards.

“Hallelujah” won the Grand Prix for the festival’s best short, “Mulaqat/Sandstorm” took the honors as the best live-action short and “Scale” won for animation. HollyShorts is an Oscar-qualifying festival for the short-film categories, and the winners of those three awards are automatically entered in the Oscar race.

The award to “Hallelujah” was presented via video by this year’s Oscar winners for Best Live Action Short, “The Long Goodbye” filmmakers Riz Ahmed and Aniel Karia. The Oscar winners for the 2018 live-action short “Skin,” Jamie Ray Newman and Guy Nattiv, presented the awards to “Mulaqat/Sandstorm” and best-director winner Carlos Segundo (“Sideral”), respectively.

Few artists cite longevity as their sole career aim. For many, it appears to be more often about relevancy, recognition, and making it internationally - things that can arguably be perceived as easier to do in the short term. Not for Joy Crookes, though. The 23-year-old singer-songwriter aspires to longevity, and she has a pretty good idea of how she's going to achieve it. Fresh off the high of releasing her debut album, Skin, Crookes has been nominated for a Mobo Award, performed all over London, and begun touring the world. We caught up with her to talk about the inspirations behind her album, holding your own community accountable, and how to achieve self-preservation in an industry that's constantly changing.

"I always knew I liked music but I didn't think it was a feasible job," Crookes told Popsugar. "My parents are great, but none of us thought it was realistic.

Alan Brain’s 2021 award-winning “The Rumba Kings” and Jace Panebianco’s “Broken Molds” will be among the films showcased at the Maui Film Festival, which will accommodate guests in an open-air, pod-style seating, from Nov. 17-21 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului. Singer-songwriter Kate Nash has released a new song, “Misery,” her first new music in nearly two years.

The track is driven by a mix of swift strings and delicate synths undergirded by propulsive percussion and thick bass hits. “I will never leave you behind/Even if the bridge was falling/Misery, it’s out to get you,” Nash sings as the back-up vocals echo behind her, “Keep, keep, keep, keep trying.”

In a statement, Nash said the song was inspired partly by life during quarantine, saying, “I definitely went through depression.

Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Noel Gallagher, and other British and U.K.-based musicians have signed an open letter to England’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson calling on him to embrace reforms that would improve streaming revenues for artists, performers, and songwriters.

The letter is backed by the Musicians’ Union and the Ivors Academy (the former a U.K. trade group for working musicians, the latter an association for songwriters and composers), which represent tens of thousands of U.K. music professionals. It comes as artists in the U.K.

Glow may be canceled at Netflix, but one of the stars of the show is still hopeful that fans will get to see a conclusion. 

The series was axed earlier this week due to production issues relating to Covid-19. 

It was three weeks into production in March when nationwide shutdown orders were announced, meaning it had to stop production. 

Two and a half episodes were completed at the time, and they are not expected to see the light of day. 

"Let us wrap it up in a two-hour Netflix movie. Give the showrunners and the cast and the writers the chance to finish this story in a movie, right? Then it's all fine," said Marc Maron, who played director Sam Sylvia, in an Instagram Live video.

Not too long ago, “Netflix will greenlight anything” was a strong enough meme that it was featured as a joke on actual Netflix shows like Lady Dynamite and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Now that meme is in danger of becoming “Netflix will cancel anything.”

The streaming giant today announced that it has canceled its two remaining Jenji Kohan-produced shows: Glow and Teenage Bounty Hunters, according to Deadline. The latter’s cancellation comes after just one season and the former’s cancellation arrives despite the show previously being confirmed for a fourth and final season.

In the case of Glow, the cancellation comes due to the coronavirus-related shutdowns and the difficulty of producing a highly physical show based on professional wrestling.

“Glow” will not proceed with Season 4 at Netflix as planned, Variety has confirmed.

The Emmy-nominated Netflix comedy series about a troupe of female professional wrestlers had originally been renewed for a fourth and final season, but plans for that season have now been scrapped due to production delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of ‘Glow’ due to Covid, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of ‘Glow’ with us and the world.”

The show had been renewed for its last season last year. Production had begun on Season 4 earlier this year but was shut down early on due to the pandemic.

Update, Aug. 14: Randall Miller’s hearing before Judge Anthony L. Harrison has been delayed again, now set for Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9Am Et, “upon agreement of counsel, and for good cause shown” according to an amended rule nisi which you can read here. Deadline will update you if we hear back from Miller’s attorney Ed Garland or Harrison, but we hear that talks between prosecutors and Miller’s team are ongoing to determine whether or not the Midnight Rider filmmaker should serve more time in jail after directing the DGA signatory film Higher Grounds last summer in Serbia, Colombia and the UK during his probation period.

On May 29, Georgia law enforcement authorities requested that Department of Community Supervision issue an arrest warrant for the filmmaker, asserting that he violated the conditions of his probation.

Exclusive: One week after Georgia prosecutors sought a new arrest warrant for Midnight Rider director Randall Miller over probation violations stemming from the 2014 on-set death of Sarah Jones, the filmmaker’s lawyers are fighting back to stop potential return to jail for their client.

“The defense urges the court to deny the application for a warrant,” proclaims a June 2 memorandum from the Atlanta firm of Garland, Samuel & Loeb that was made public by the Peach State courts today.

As exclusively reported by Deadline on May 27, last year Miller was the director of the independent feature comedy Higher Grounds in Serbia, UK and Columbia. Randall Miller, the “Midnight Rider” director serving probation for his role in the 2014 death of camera assistant Sarah Jones, will be summoned to court for allegedly violating his probation by directing a new film last year, Variety reported.

As part of a 2015 plea deal in Georgia, Miller pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing and involuntary manslaughter in connection to Jones’ death. She was killed and several others injured when a train plowed through a “Midnight Rider” set that was set up on a Georgia train trestle.

He was released after serving a year in prison and is now subject to a 10-year probation in which he is “prohibited from serving as director, first assistant director or supervisor with responsibility for safety in any film production.”

Exclusive: Six years after Sarah Jones was killed on the Georgia set of Midnight Rider, director Randall Miller is facing being arrested again.

Law enforcement authorities in the Peach State today requested that Department of Community Supervision issue a warrant for Miller for violating the conditions of his probation, we have learned. The effort arises from Deadline’s exclusive earlier this week that Miller had directed the DGA sanctioned film Higher Grounds last summer in Serbia, Colombia and the UK.

“I have requested Wayne County probation to issue a warrant for his arrest,” Assistant District Attorney John Johnson told Deadline on Friday. “Randall Miller has violated the terms of his probation,” the Georgia prosecutor added of Miller getting behind the camera on the Kate Nash-starring Higher Grounds. “As a director, he’s in violation.”

Exclusive: The parents of Sarah Jones are calling on the DGA to kick Randall Miller out of the guild after learning that he recently directed a new movie, Higher Grounds, in Serbia and Colombia last summer — this despite the special conditions of his probation after he spent a year in jail for the death of their daughter, Sarah Jones.

Jones was killed by a speeding freight train on the first and only day of shooting on the Miller-directed Midnight Rider in Georgia in 2014.

In a statement provided to Deadline tonight, Jones’ parents, Richard and Elizabeth, said that “The legal system will decide whether Mr. Miller violated the terms of his probation when he produced and directed the feature film Higher Grounds. Exclusive: Due to ambiguity in probation documents, disgraced Midnight Rider director Randall Miller is back behind the camera and making movies – despite an involuntarily manslaughter guilty plea that many believed forbid such work for up to decade.

Deadline has learned that Miller directed the comedy Higher Grounds in Serbia and Colombia last year. The completed feature follows a vegan barista, played by Glow‘s Kate Nash, whose coffee shop is sinking, and gears up as the underdogs in the World Barista Championships. Higher Grounds was produced by Miller and his wife Jody Savin, who was also an initial defendant in the Sarah Jones death case, with charges eventually dismissed.

Jay Karandikar, Satish Karandikar, Zak Kristofek and Michael Melroy Smith are also executive producers on Higher Grounds.

Some talent reps who had their clients involved in the new movie wanted to vet Miller’s current situation to direct, we’ve learned.
