Kieran Turner, a documentary filmmaker who created the web series “Wallflowers,” died Dec. 23 in West Hollywood. He was 56.
Turner’s death after a battle with cancer was confirmed by Christy Grosz, president of CLG3 Communications.
In addition to creating “Wallflowers,” Turner wrote and produced the online web series which ran for two seasons from 2013 to 2014 and followed four friends who join a support group to help them get dates. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (“Aladdin”) are producing
Disney has picked up the rights to the 2005 Broadway musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and will adapt it into a live-action film, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the 2019 live-action “Aladdin” for the studio, will produce via their Rideback banner. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin will executive produce.
The musical follows several competitors competing in a spelling bee. Composer William Finn’s musical opened on Broadway in 2005 and earned six Tony nominations while winning two: for Rachel Sheinkin’s book and for Dan Fogler’s featured performance. The show, which also included a pre-“Modern Family” Jesse Tyler Ferguson in its original cast, played for nearly three years and 1,100-plus performances on Broadway.

Gettin’ The Band Back Together, the rock musical that just opened August 13 at the Belasco Theatre, has set its last performance for Sunday, September 30. It will have played 30 previews and 40 performances. The producers announced the decision Friday.
“It’s not just the money, but when a team of the most creative people you know spends years of their lives working toward a common goal, and it doesn’t turn out the way you all dreamed..it’s heart-crushing,” producer Ken Davenport wrote candidly in a blog post about the decision, which he said made over the past 24 hours.
Davenport said the call was especially tough as he said “surveys of actual Telecharge ticket buyers and got a 98.2% positive rating, and an exceptionally high “Net Promoter Score.” (How likely they are to tell their friends and family to get tickets.),” he said.

Perhaps with a real estate eye toward a trade up to bigger digs more commensurate with the financial firepower of someone who rakes in an estimated $500,000 per episode for his co-starring role on the long-running hit sitcom “Modern Family,” Los Angeles-based actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson is looking to sell his New York City pied-à-terre for $1.495 million. The eclectically decorated apartment, which carries maintenance charges of $1,877 per month, is also available completely furnished for an additional, undisclosed amount. The ginger-haired five-time Emmy nominee, who voiced the Shangri Llama character in the 2016 blockbuster animated film “Ice Age: Collision Course,” and his prominently eye-browed attorney/bedding designer husband Justin Mikita purchased the approximately 900-square-foot one-bedroom and two-bathroom co-operative unit in early 2015 for $1,232,500.

The title of Hysterical Psycho (currently playing the Tribeca Film Festival) refers to at least one of the characters and is a pretty good description of the movie itself as well. It’s a berserk, over-the-top, wildly uneven assault of humorous and homagistic horror that’s decidedly not for all tastes—but those who do enjoy its flavor are gonna eat it up.
The feature writing/directing debut of actor Dan Fogler (recently seen paying tribute to a different strain of genre worship in Fanboys) offers up a Hitchcock homage and a fart joke in its first minute, conveyed via old-fashioned black-and-white animation—a fair indication of the breadth and variety of influences at work here. The sequence that follows offers up a history of Moon Lake, which is imbued with “lunar radiation” that can unbalance any mind unfortunate enough to come near it. After a brief color interlude, cut...

Dan Fogler, actor and playwright, steps behind the camera to tell a tale of insanity and horror in grainy black and white. Part of theatre troupe Stage 13 Dan Fogler meant for "Hysterical Psycho," to be a an acting exercise for his cast, but the film blossomed into something grander. Set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, this April 24, the film will offer a deaf mute sister for laughs and various offings of characters that will entertain those fortunate enough to live in the New York greater metropolitan area. Have a look at the trailer and synopsis for the film; then, pray that Tony award winning Fogler makes his way over to the sunny west coast or finds wider distribution for his cabin-in-the-woods thriller.
