To pilot or not to pilot has been a question broadcast networks have been asking themselves for more than a decade and are increasingly answering ‘no’ to, especially when it comes to the traditional pilot season in the months leading to the May upfronts. We haven’t gotten a single pilot order in 2025 so far. While that is about to change with a handful of orders coming up, the pilot drought has been persistent amid an industry contraction and linear viewing decline, especially as the networks are still dealing with the backlog caused by strike-related delays.
Broadcasters these days often opt for economically efficient planted spinoffs that shoot as regular episodes of existing drama and comedy series or for development rooms and straight-to-series orders, primarily on the drama side. That is ironic because most of the biggest new drama hits of the last two seasons, CBS’ Tracker and Matlock and ABC’s High Potential,...

Australia is a continent with a deep cinematic tradition, creating some of the most engaging and intense thrillers of all time. Filmmakers and creators use what's on their doorstep, combining expansive raw landscapes and unique cultural traditions with captivating stories of the outback to produce some incredible films. The one-of-a-kind aesthetic provides the backdrop for films focused on isolation, violence, and survival in one of the harshest climates on earth.
Popular Australian thrillers effectively convey these themes masterfully, such as Picnic at Hanging Rock, which explores using the cruelty and mystique of the Australian bush to elevate its intricate narrative, and The Nightingale, which focuses on the Aboriginal cultures and history of Tasmania to provide context to its story. Australian thrillers all have their own distinct style while delivering a consistently mature and suspenseful thriller with perfect endings, expertly paced, that keep audiences hooked until the credits roll.

CBS‘ single-camera comedy pilot Dmv has added Alex Tarrant (NCIS: Hawai’i), Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones) and Gigi Zumbado (Doctor Odyssey) in series regular roles.
They join the previously announced cast of Tim Meadows, Harriet Dyer and Molly Kearney.

Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Good thing they have each other.

The Invisible Man 2 gets a new update from original movie director Leigh Whannell, and it's not good news. Based on the iconic Universal monster, The Invisible Man was released in 2020, with Elisabeth Moss starring as Cecilia, a woman being hunted by her abusive ex-boyfriend. The film was a hit critically and commercially, and the ending leaves the door open for more story, but few concrete updates have emerged about a potential Invisible Man 2. Moss addressed the sequel earlier this year, saying that they are "closer than [they] have ever been" to making the movie happen.
During a recent interview at New York Comic Con with ComicBook.com, Whannell shares a new update on The Invisible Man 2, revealing that he seemingly won't be involved if the sequel does happen. While he admits that Universal and Moss could certainly make a sequel without him, he expresses satisfaction with where he closed off Cecilia's story in the original movie.

With husband and wife co-creators Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer leading the charge, the Australian romantic comedy series Colin From Accounts has returned for Season 2 on Paramount+. In Season 1, the underrated comedy series followed Brammall's Gordon and Dyer's Ashley taking the responsibility of parenting a disabled dog after meeting each other in the most absurdist fashion possible. Throughout the season, the lead characters navigate their love-hate relationship while dealing with their own set of problems. With the acknowledgment of their love for each other coming in the very final moments of Season 1, Colin From Accounts had a strong foundation to build Season 2. However, the co-creators and lead actors not only amp up the comedic quality and the story of the show, but they also go bolder and braver in the new season. While the minor changes in the chemistry of the show are noticeable throughout Season 2, Episode 7 definitively breaks the...

The beauty of a show receiving a second season is seeing how the writers — having firmly established their characters and world — broaden the show to encompass more. Some shows falter; “Colin from Accounts” soared.
Nowhere is that better expressed than in the plotlines concocted for the friends and family of Gordon (co-creator Patrick Brammall) and Ashley (co-creator Harriet Dyer), both of whom have the requisite oddballs in their lives who, in typical “Colin from Accounts” fashion, are tweaked just enough to be both over-the-top and recognizably human. If Ashley’s mother, Lynelle (Helen Thomson), served as a foil to her daughter (and a symbol of how Ashley became who she is) in Season 1, she gets a truly wild plot in Season 2 that allows both character and actor to step into the spotlight. Believe it or not, Season 2 of “Colin from Accounts” initially ended on an even bleaker note.
Not that the current ending isn’t already a heartbreaker. Swept up in wedding fever, Gordon abruptly proposes to Ashley on the dance floor. And she doesn’t say yes, leaving them in an awkward place, relationship-wise, and him in a humiliated position in the middle of a dance floor. Was there ever a question of ending the season on such a dire note?
“It was more dire,” co-star and co-creator Harriet Dyer told IndieWire.
“It was just Gordon and Ashley in the wide after he proposed,” co-star and co-creator Patrick Brammall said. “So after [Gordon] puts the music back on — and it was still ‘Slice of Heaven’ — it’s a wide frame. They’re like on an island and you’re like, ‘Oh, they’re fucking dead.’ And they’re trying to dance and it’s not working.

‘Colin From Accounts’ Stars on How That Messy Finale Wedding Proposal May or May Not Be Catastrophic
As Paramount+’s “Colin From Accounts” winds down its Season 2 with the finale episode “Speedy Susans,” Gordon (Patrick Brammall) and Ashley (Harriet Dyer) are actually in a pretty good place. Figuratively, not literally: They’re technically at the wedding of Ashley’s best friend Megan (Emma Harvie) and her fiancé Rumi (Virginia Gay), who is most certainly not a fan of Gordon.
But that’s fine, Ashley is the one in pain, after her wisdom teeth are removed. Ashley nonetheless tries to fulfill her job as Maid of Honor by masking her swollen face with an ill-advised spray tan. It’s an uncomfortable day for both, but things get better at the reception. In a moment of tenderness, both Gordon and Ashley say “I love you” for the first time to one another. And it seems like Season 2 is going to end on an upbeat note for them.

Watching Paramount+’s Colin From Accounts, you might think a certain scene just can’t be real. That it’s too awkward to be a real thing that happened.
But most of the show’s moments derive from friends and family members of creators, showrunners and stars Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, who are also married in real life.

Season two, which dropped all episodes on Paramount+ on Thursday, continues to follow Ashley (Dyer) and Gordon (Brammall) in their relationship after they were somewhat forced together in season one after they both looked after a dog who was hit by Gordon’s car. Season two, which dropped all episodes on Paramount+ on Thursday, continues to follow Ashley (Dyer) and Gordon (Brammall) in their relationship after they were somewhat forced together in season one after they both looked after a dog who was hit by Gordon’s car. Dealing with Ashley and Gordon’s families as well as navigating friendships with the show’s supporting characters,...

I know I wasn't the only critic who walked out of the TCA premiere of Colin From Accounts Season 2 this past summer with a new show to tune in for. The hilarious Australian comedy series, co-created and co-starring real-life couple Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, had me rolling from minute one. While the show does partly revolve around an adorable dog "Colin From Accounts" is the name given to the pooch by its lead characters it also follows the highs and lows of the romance between brewery owner Gordon (Brammall) and med student Ashley (Dyer). When Gordon accidentally hits poor Colin with his car (after being playfully flashed by Ashley in the street), the resulting financial responsibility brings these two humans together in ways they never could have anticipated. Season 1 wrapped up with Gordon and Ash seriously rethinking their relationship due to several factors, but ultimately deciding to commit to each other anyway.

For fans of the rom-com genre who need more funny romance in their lives, Colin From Accounts offers a relationship comedy to fill the void. The Australian show focuses on an awkward couple, Ashley (Harriet Dyer) and Gordon (Patrick Brammall), as they figure out their relationship potential. The pair first come together through an accident they both have involving a dog, who they later name Colin. Because of the state of Colins injuries, the pair quickly go from being complete strangers to doggy co-parents. Ashley and Gordon spend the bulk of Season 1 navigating their newfound relationship, trying to figure out if they actually do want to be together or if its just Colin keeping them connected. Theyre both extremely flawed and insecure in their own ways, and each takes a turn at doubting the validity of their bond. Through the couples amazing chemistry, witty sense of humor, and endearing romantic fumbles,...

Paging elder millennial women everywhere! Joshua Jackson, the beloved actor formerly known as Charlie Conway and Pacey Witter, fronts this sexy new medical drama from executive producer Ryan Murphy. Set aboard a luxury ocean liner, the ABC procedural — the first episode of which is now streaming on Hulu — follows Jackson’s Dr. Max Bankman as he saves lives and deftly handles various medical cases on the high seas with the help of his small but mighty crew, portrayed by Phillipa Soo and Sean Teale. Elsewhere, Don Johnson stars as the ship’s captain (and looks good doing it). Each week is a new cruise, with a different theme, which keeps things exciting and fresh. All of this to say: Network TV is back, baby, and “Doctor Odyssey” is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Colin From Accounts, Season 2.] Colin From Accounts Season 2 has officially dropped stateside on Paramount+, and as we take in the latest laughs, we can’t help but wonder what’s next for Gordon and Ashley, the couple played by real-life spouses, series co-creators, and writers Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer. While Season 1 chronicled the start of their relationship, Season 2 picked up with the growing pains that accompany a new romance as these otherwise strangers began to dig deeper into each other’s personal lives. As fans will recall, the duo met when medical student Ashley flashed microbrewery proprietor Gordon, causing him to hit the show’s titular pup, Colin. Brought together by the high-needs dog, Ashley and Gordon’s situation is anything but conventional, and Season 2 continued to prove that point. Below, Brammall and Dyer open up about Season 2’s cliffhanger ending and where it could take fans in a potential third season ...

On the heels of Colin From Accounts Season 2 landing Stateside, Harriet Dyer has booked a leading role on CBS Dmv comedy pilot.
Based on author Katherine Heiny’s short story, Dmv is a single-camera workplace comedy set at the place everyone dreads going most. “Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door,” says the official logline. “Good thing they have each other.”

Harriet Dyer has been cast in the CBS comedy pilot “Dmv,” Variety has learned.
Dyer joins previously announced cast member Tim Meadows in the single-cam pilot, which was ordered at CBS back in August. The pilot is based on a short story by Katherine Heiny. The official logline states that the show is “set at the place everyone dreads going most: the Dmv. Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Good thing they have each other.”
Dyer will play Colette, who is described as “the driving examiner with a huge heart. Colette takes the scared and nervous people because she’s calming and patient and genuinely roots for them to pass. Smart, self-aware, and working on herself, Colette is adorably neurotic, bad with boundaries, and often prioritizes other peoples’ feelings over her own.

Colin From Accounts co-creator and star Harriet Dyer has been tapped as a lead opposite Tim Meadows in CBS‘ single-camera comedy pilot Dmv, from Dana Klein, Kapital Entertainment, TrillTV and CBS Studios. Dyer’s casting would not interfere with her duties on the well-received Paramount+ comedy series Colin From Accounts, also produced by CBS Studios; the dates have been worked out so she will be able to do both should Dmv go to series and Colin From Accounts gets renewed for a third season.

Real-life couple Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer play on-screen lovers in the Australian romantic comedy series Colin From Accounts. In the series, Brammall and Dyer play the roles of two strangers, Gordon and Ashley, who come together after an accident leaves them with the responsibility of parenting a lost dog, whom they name Colin. Season 1 of Colin From Accounts follows Gordon and Ashley while they navigate the challenges posed by their new roles as pet parents and their quickly growing affection for each other. With Season 2 of Colin From Accounts premiering on Paramount+ in the U.S. later this week, it's good to refresh our memories about where this odd yet fun couple ends their journey after the first season.

Paramount+‘s delightful Australian import Colin From Accounts is gearing up for its Season 2 return. With it, we await the outcome of Ashley (Harriet Dyer) and Gordon’s (Patrick Brammall) attempt to get their dog Colin back after prematurely handing him over to another family at the end of Season 1. While Season 2 hit screens in Australia earlier this year, all eight episodes of the comedy are slated to drop on Paramount+ beginning Thursday, September 26th. In anticipation of the show’s return stateside, TV Insider caught up with the stars, creators, writers, and real-life spouses Dyer and Brammall to discuss what is in store. For those who need a refresher, the series follows Echo Park Brewery proprietor Gordon and doctor-in-training Ashley who meet under unusual circumstances when she flashes him in the street. The distraction leads Gordon to accidentally hit a dog which ultimately brings the pair together. Joel Pratley...

Romantic comedies are an endangered species these days. They’re practically extinct from movie theaters, and most TV rom-coms are either not all that funny or weighed down by metric tons of plot convolutions. But I have good news: Paramount+’s Australian charmer Colin From Accounts, returning for Season 2 this Thursday — I’ve seen all eight Season 2 episodes — is a shining example of romantic comedy at its very best, with lots of genuine laughs, pleasurably low stakes and winning performances from stars/co-creators Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer.

The beloved Australian rom-com series is finally back for its second season and while I want to say that everything is going hunky dory for our leading couple, in my opinion, it just won’t end up that way. Created by and starring the real-life couple Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, Colin from Accounts is back with its much anticipated second season with the always-bickering Ashley and Gordon.
Colin from Accounts picks up the story of Ashley and Gordon two weeks after they gave up Colin to a family of three. Now, regretting their decision they have been pestering the family to give Colin so that they don’t have to deal with the question of what their relationship is like if Colin is taken out of the equation because he was the one who brought them together.

Honestly, the biggest thing Colin from Accounts might've had going against it at first was its name. The title of the Australian import series from husband-and-wife co-creators and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer feels somewhat more in line with an office comedy or mockumentary than a rom-com but watching even one episode is enough to quell all potential misconceptions about what this show is about. Colin from Accounts initially premiered to rave reviews but has taken a bit longer to find success with American audiences, likely due to the glut of shows that can be found on most streamers these days. Not tuning in for this riotously funny sleeper hit of a series would be simple human error, especially since, two seasons in, Brammall and Dyer are comedically firing on all cylinders as their characters navigate the ups and downs of their relationship while trying to get their adorable dog back home for good.

When it comes to television, titles can make or break a show, and I’ll admit that I was guilty of assuming I knew what Paramount+‘s Colin From Accounts was about when I saw the title. Surely it’s a workplace comedy about a man named Colin who works in accounting, right? Wrong. I’ll admit I was guilty of making such an assumption, but the Australian comedy from creators and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer is far from a workplace comedy.
