The Wheel of Time is chugging along on its third season, which has been getting rave reviews. The TV series adapts Robert Jordan's massive Wheel of Time book series, a sprawling affair that showrunner Rafe Judkins and his team are having to compress to make into a TV show. "We have five billion characters and it feels like there’s never time to do anything," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Judkins has to pick and choose which aspects of the story to highlight and which to streamline. One thing he's made a point of exploring is the multiplicity of queer relationships on the show, whether it's the life-long love bond between Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) and Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo), the budding relationship between Elayne (Ceara Coveney) and Aviendha (Ayoola Smart), or the polyamosous relationship between the Aes Sedai sorceress Alanna (Priyanka Bose) and her warders Maksim (Taylor Napier) and...

The Wheel of Time is back with the fifth episode of its third season, and it's a major step forward in broadening the scope of this expansive fantasy series. Last week the show tightened focus to cover Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) and Moiraine Damodred's (Rosamund Pike) journey into the sacred Aiel city of Rhuidean. It stands as the highest-rated episode of the series to date on IMDb with a 9.5/10, and deserves every bit of praise it's getting.
But "The Road to the Spear" was only the halfway point in the season. In this week's episode, "Tel'aran'rhiod," we catch up with many of the characters who didn't get screentime during Rand's millennia-spanning vision quest. From the White Tower to a new Aiel settlement, Tanchico and the high seas, and even the dream world of Tel'aran'rhiod, The Wheel of Time is reminding us that it is a globe-trotting fantasy series that can fill viewers with wonder.

The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 4, “The Road to the Spear,” is one of the most interesting episodes of the the series so far, and it’s all about our guy, the Dragon Reborn, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski). It’s also one of the weirdest episodes of the series so far.
I have not read The Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan, but I’ve known this moment was coming for a while as I prepared to watch this season. It seems like Rafe Lee Judkins and the creative team hit it out of the park.
Overall, the episode changes the pace compared to the season premiere and the other episodes of season 3 so far. While there are a few characters present. This episode is all about Rand and Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), along with a few scenes with Aviendha (Ayoola Smart).

Epic fantasy used to be seen only on the big screen, but over the last decade, we have seen massive productions based on books, video games, and more. Based on the long-running series by author Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time has become a stalwart for Prime Video, with the third season set to be the biggest and most epic yet.
The plot of season three, per Prime Video: “After defeating Ishamael, one of the most powerful of the Forsaken, at the end of Season Two, Rand reunites with his friends in the city of Falme and is declared the Dragon Reborn. But in Season Three, the threats against the Light are multiplying: the White Tower stands divided, the Black Ajah runs free, old enemies return to the Two Rivers, and the remaining Forsaken are in hot pursuit of the Dragon… including Lanfear, whose relationship with Rand will mark a...

Last week, The Wheel of Time kicked off its third season with a block of three rock-solid episodes. This season of Prime Video's fantasy show is primarily adapting The Shadow Rising, one of the most acclaimed books in Robert Jordan's series. So far, it's living up to that high bar. Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) headed out into the Aiel Waste with his allies to earn the allegiance of the Aiel people; Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) headed home to the Two Rivers to find the once peaceful village under siege from Trollocs and Whitecloaks; and Mat Cauthon (Dónal Finn), Nynaeve al'Meara (Zoë Robins) and Elayne Trakand (Ceara Coveney) set off to the seedy port city of Tanchico to hunt the Black Ajah. A lot's going on this season, and that's not even getting into the shadowy schemes of the Forsaken.

The third season of The Wheel of Time is off to a fantastic start on Prime Video. The streaming service released three episodes last week, and they didn’t disappoint.
Although the show is scrambling the events from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time book series a bit, these episodes did a good job of making that change relatively seamless without losing any momentum built up during the action-packed finale to season 2.
Without focusing too much on the differences between the books and the show, audiences can appreciate the visual smorgasbord the show delivers with aplomb. So far, The Wheel of Time is a prime example of how a quality fantasy story can be told on the small screen.

Editor's note: The below interview contains spoilers for The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episodes 1-3.The Wheel of Time has finally returned to our screens with its third season, and the Prime Video adaptation isn't wasting any time (no pun intended) in emphasizing that the stakes are higher than ever before for our heroes. Not only is Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) forced to grapple with which path is the right one for him in the wake of declaring himself the Dragon Reborn, but he also has to deal with the efforts of other characters to sway him in a certain direction — including Moiraine (Rosamund Pike). As the trailer for Season 3 has already revealed, Rand and Moiraine's fates seem to be inextricably linked, with Moiraine revealing to her Warder, Lan (Daniel Henney), that she's glimpsed countless futures in which either she or Rand survive, but never both of them. It's unclear...

This week, The Wheel of Time returns for its third season on Prime Video. Based on the iconic fantasy book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, The Wheel of Time is a sweeping epic with a massive cast of heroes, villains, and characters who fall somewhere in between. The wait is almost over! On Thursday, March 13, Prime Video will premiere season 3 of The Wheel of Time. The streaming service is promoting it more than it has in the past, and this could be a make-or-break season for the fantasy show.
The Wheel of Time is one of two epic fantasy shows on Prime Video, with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power being the other. The Rings of Power has a bigger budget and has more promotion, but The Wheel of Time is the better series.
The Wheel of Time is based on the massive 14-volume book series by Robert Jordan (and finished by Brandon Sanderson). The first tome, The Eye of the World, was published in 1990 and the final book, A Memory of Light, in 2013.
The first two seasons of The Wheel of Time TV show covered books one and two, with some storylines from later books bleeding in.

Prime Video's The Wheel of Timehas successfully expanded the world of Robert Jordan's books by making the TV versions of the characters so memorable. At the core of this book to screen adaptation is Rand al'Thor, played by Josha Stradowski, who is destined to either save the world or destroy it as the Dragon Reborn. Accompanying him and guiding him is Moraine Damodred, portrayed by Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike.

“Just the opener, almost the cold open of episode one is an epic bloodthirsty, vicious battle where powerful women are kind of slaying each other,” star Rosamund Pike told news.com.au. “I mean, it’s kind of like a season finale, and we haven’t even got 15 minutes into the show. That was a surprise … and we’ve got layers upon layers of political intrigue and villains who … they have enemies. So I think we’re starting to know the lay of the land. Two of the biggest heroes in Prime Video's The Wheel of Time are Lan Mandragoran and Siuan Sanche. Lan is known as an incredible swordsman and instrumental in Moiraine Damodred's success. Meanwhile, Siuan is the Amyrlin Seat, the leader of the Aes Sedai, and has been an advisor to Egwene al'Vere. Without these two characters, the world would be very different.
Leading up to the March 13 release of The Wheel of Time Season 3, Cbr was able to speak with actors Daniel Henney (who plays Lan) and Sophie Okonedo (who portrays Siuan). The two stars discussed Lan and Siuan's respective journeys in the third season. They also reflected on how their characters' roles change as the show's overall story moves forward.
Cbr: Daniel, Lan is a character constantly torn between love and duty. In The Wheel of Time Season 3, what are his relationships with Moriaine and Nynaeve, and how does their dynamic evolve across the season?...

The Wheel of Time season 3 is just around the corner, and the hype is off the charts. Season 3 is based on The Shadow Rising, widely considered one of the best novels in Robert Jordan's iconic fantasy book series. Some pretty big events happen in this part of the story, and The Wheel of Time TV show is signaling to fans that it's rising to the occasion with an extensive marketing campaign, cast interviews, trailers, and a thrilling sneak peak at the blood-drenched opening minutes of season 3.
We recently participated in a press junket with several members of the cast, and they did a pretty great job of getting us excited for what lies ahead. Rosamund Pike (Moiraine) and Josha Stradowski (Rand) talked up the "psychedelic" fourth episode of the season, which will take viewers to the mystical Aiel city of Rhuidean. In a few short weeks, The Wheel of Time will premiere its third season on Prime Video. All signs indicate that this is going to be a landmark season for the fantasy TV series. It's adapting a beloved novel in Robert Jordan's book series, The Shadow Rising, and the production is bigger and better than previous seasons, with a wider aspect ratio to give viewers the most cinematic experience possible. Don't take my word for it; the first 11 minutes are out now, and they are absolutely thrilling:
If The Wheel of Time manages to pull off this season, it could elevate the show to a new level in the popular TV viewing discourse. I know I'm rooting for it; we've had a lot of fantasy shows in recent years, but few are adapting as beloved a work as The Wheel of Time (and pulling it off so well).

The Wheel of Time season 3 is nearly upon, and if the thrilling first minutes we've already seen are any indication, it promises to be the fantasy television event of the year. Based on the hit book series by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time tells the story of a fight between good and evil on a grand scale, and the many heroes and villains caught up in the mix. Like the books, the show has a sprawling cast where each character gets their own moments to take the spotlight and pushes the narrative forward in unexpected ways.
Two characters we'll be seeing a lot in season 3 are Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney), the warder for Rosamund Pike's Aes Sedai sorceress Moiraine; and Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo), the leader of the Aes Sedai and Moiraine's secret lover. Prime Video's The Wheel of Timehas taken on the monumental task of adapting Robert Jordan's massive 14-book series. Leading this charge is showrunner Rafe Judkins, who is both a passionate fan and a talented storyteller. And one of the reasons both the books and the TV show are successful is the presence of compelling villains -- especially Lanfear, played by Natasha O'Keeffe.
Cbr was able to sit down with both O'Keeffe and Judkins to discuss the continued handling of fan expectations in The Wheel of Time Season 3. They also discussed some of the biggest challenges this season. Plus, what will Lanfear do next?
Cbr: Natasha, Lanfear made an unforgettable impression in The Wheel of Time Season 2. How do you carry that momentum into Season 3 and continue to make her so interesting?

Next month, The Wheel of Time will return for its third season on Prime Video, and from the opening minutes we've already seen, it looks spectacular. Based on the beloved fantasy book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, The Wheel of Time tells a sweeping tale about a group of young men and women who are drawn into a battle against the ominous Dark One, who wants to shatter the titular wheel of time and end the cycle of rebirth. At their head is Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski), a reincarnated hero known as the Dragon Reborn, and the Aes Sedai sorceress Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), who seeks to guide him to his destiny.
When it comes to adapting popular fantasy works for TV, no show has it quite so difficult as The Wheel of Time. The series consists of 15 novels total, while the TV show is planned to run for around eight seasons.

The film industry has been adapting popular books for centuries and this trend continues to be strong today. However, not all adaptations were popular, either with the public or the authors, as many struggled to find an audience or maintain the heart of the novels.
Bestselling author Brandon Sanderson has also struggled with allowing his novels to be adapted. The author has had a series of popular epic fantasies, including the Mistborn or The Stormlight Archive series, but his novels have yet to be turned into movies or TV shows. Speaking to Polygon about the ongoing streaming environment, the author mentioned popular adaptations like The Wheel of Time and Shadow and Bone as examples of why that doesn't work out.

The Shadow Rising is the fourth book in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series. It's considered one of the best entries in that series, and it forms the basis for the upcoming fourth season of Prime Video's The Wheel of Time TV show. What better time to talk about its strengths and weaknesses? Below, WiC editors Dan Selcke and Daniel Roman do just that. Beware Major Spoilers!

Dan: This is my first time reading through The Wheel of Time novels, and I'd always heard that The Shadow Rising was a big book for the series. Now I see why. I was starting to get a little tired of every book before this climaxing with Rand al'Thor winning a fight against Ba'alzamon, or Ishamael, or whatever name he's going by at this point.
