Exclusive: The cast of the BET+ and Hartbeat adult animated series Lil Kev continues to grow with the addition of Gerald “Slink” Johnson as a series regular, and Jamar Neighbors (Keanu), Cree Summer (Abbott Elementary), Anjelah Johnson-Reyes (Mad TV), and Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams (The Ms. Pat Show) in supporting roles. All three movies in the venerable Rush Hour franchise will find a new streaming home starting Dec. 1. The Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker buddy cop movies, Rush Hour (1998), Rush Hour 2 (2001), and Rush Hour 3 (2007) will drop on Tubi starting Dec. 1.

Rush Hour 4 is reportedly being pitched to various studios in an attempt to get the project off the ground. The fourth installment in the franchise, starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, could also mark controversial director Brett Ratner's return to filmmaking.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, executives at Lionsgate held a meeting to discuss Rush Hour 4 in July 2024. While other franchises, such as John Wick, have experienced success with new additions, the problem with getting the action comedy off the ground is the potential involvement of Ratner, who directed the first three Rush Hour movies. Sources familiar with the talks said the filmmaker, who has been accused of sexual misconduct, was part of the pitch for the fourth installment.

The films getting a new streaming home comes at a time when the Bad Boys franchise is dominating the box office, hinting at the nostalgic love that filmgoers have for buddy cop franchises that launched in the 1990s. The first Rush Hour film, released in 1998, spawned a franchise that included multiple sequels and even a reboot TV series. Oddly enough, Bad Boys star Martin Lawrence was offered a lead role in Rush Hour, but he turned it down, leading to the casting of Chris Tucker alongside Jackie Chan.

The upcoming stoner comedy sequel Half Baked 2 will feature Rachel True reprising her original role. True played Mary Jane Potman in the 1998 film Half Baked, which starred Dave Chappelle, Jim Breuer, Harland Williams, and Guillermo Díaz, as a group of friends who love smoking weed. She is the love interest for Chappelle's character Thurgood, which presents a problem considering the fact that - despite her suggestive name - she is vehemently anti-drug.

Per Deadline, Half Baked 2 has just wrapped production in Baton Rouge. The film, which will be released non-theatrically in 2023, has announced that True (who is perhaps known for her role in the 1996 teen film The Craft) officially reprised the role of Mary Jane. So far, she is the only returning cast member who has been confirmed to appear in a major role, though Williams is also set to make a special appearance.

During what I will call “Part 1” of TVLine’s in-depth series finale post mortem, showrunner Monica Macer shared that — building off of seeds planted in Season 5’s quarantine and Indian wedding episodes — Season 6 would have served up a “big, Romancing the Stone-like treasure hunt” in which Russ (Henry Ian Cusick), Mac (Lucas Till) and Bozer (Justin Hires) chase after long-lost Incan loot.

Today’s announcement that the CBS crime drama reboot of MacGyver was closing out its run at the end of the month left fans and cast members with mixed emotions. Topping the list were series star Lucas Till and Justin Hires, who put out “thank-you” posts to capture their feelings in the moment.

A sequel to Dave Chappelle’s stoner comedy Half Baked has been on the cards since late last year and those plans won’t be going up in smoke, from the look of things. This week, the project was chosen as one of the recipients of the $40 million in tax credit allocated by the California Film Commission, which should help it move forward as planned.

According to MovieWeb, production on the sequel will need to begin in the next 180 days to make it eligible for the state tax credit. The same report also revealed some extra tidbits about the follow-up, confirming that it will take place in Los Angeles and follow the son of Chappelle’s Thurgood Jenkins from the first film.

This Friday at 8/7c, the Peruvian-born Scot joins CBS’ MacGyver for Season 4 as Russ Taylor, an MI6 agent-turned-private military contractor who recruits former members of the shuttered Phoenix Foundation to hunt down a bioweapon that a mysterious organization plans to deploy in a devastating attack on a major U.S. city.

CBS has announced the 20 performers who will participate in its diversity sketch comedy showcase for 2020. The showcase will begin its six-show run on Jan. 14 at the El Portal Theatre in Los Angeles.

Beginning 14 years ago, the showcase was created to spotlight diverse talent, and it has developed into a hybrid comedy show with live performances and original writing. The showcase is attended by executives, showrunners, and casting directors from CBS and other networks as well as talent agents and managers from across the entertainment industry.

To date, 418 multitalented actors have appeared in the showcase, with notable alumni including Kate McKinnon, Tiffany Haddish, Diona Reasonover, Justin Hires, Geoffrey Arend, Nico Santos, Nicole Bayer and Ego Nwodim. Recent performers from the 2018 and 2019 showcases have booked shows such as “All Rise,” “Bob Hearts Abishola” and “Carol’s Second Act.”

Good news, folks. It looks like a Half Baked sequel is totally happening and, like, totally being made by some comedian named Justin Hires. Because, you know, the universe is super ironic, bro.

Oh, sorry, let me crack a window and…there, better. As the smoke clears, we can now get a better look as to what exactly’s going on. It appears that Mr. Hires, best known for his role as Carter on the short-lived Rush Hour TV show has been tapped to pen the follow-up to the Dave Chappelle vehicle from 1998.

Hires is very excited about it, too, and rather confident sounding on his Instagram profile, where he said the following:

“Excited to announce I’ll be writing the sequel to Half Baked. Yes I know the original is a classic and yes this sequel will be [fire] because I’m writing it. Oh yeah, I write screenplays too.

A sequel to the 1998 stoner comedy movie Half Baked is apparently in the works, as comedian Justin Hires has announced he is writing the screenplay for the project. An actor, musician, and comedian, Hires is perhaps best known for his starring role on MacGyver, though his interest in writing has also led him to penning Half Baked 2. "Excited to announce I'll be writing the sequel to Half Baked," Hires says on his Instagram account, confirming reported rumors of his involvement. He adds: "Yes I know the original is a classic and yes this sequel will be [fire] because I'm writing it. Oh yeah, I write screenplays too."

On his Instagram post, Justin Hires links to a story from Comedy Hype reporting on Hires' involvement with Half Baked 2. This seems to confirm there's some truth to the rumored storyline details from that article, giving us an idea of how the planned sequel will play out.

Henry Ian Cusick has been cast as a series regular on Season 4 of CBS series “MacGyver.” The “Lost” star is set to play Russ in a leading role opposite Lucas Till’s MacGyver.

Per CBS’ character description, Russ is a handsome, quick-witted, Oxford-educated ex-Military man. A master manipulator and salesman and skilled in propaganda and lie detection with an extremely high emotional intelligence, he’s also a very wealthy man. He’s used to getting his way and not beyond enjoying the spoils of war: expensive suits, fast cars, private jets, house in Monte Carlo.

Cusick’s addition to “MacGyver” Season 4 follows the promotion of Levy Tran, who had a recurring role on the drama’s third season, to series regular and the exit of former co-lead George Eads.

It’s official. Levy Tran was expected to be promoted to series regular for the upcoming fourth season of CBS’ action drama series MacGyver, and her deal is now closed.

Tran was introduced as a recurring new character in the second half of the third season designed to help fill the void left by the departure of series’ original co-lead George Eads.

Tran, who appeared in seven episodes, plays Desiree Nguyen (Desi), who joined the Phoenix Foundation to protect MacGyver (Lucas Till) and his team on their global missions.

MacGyver, produced by CBS TV Studios, co-stars Tristin Mays, Justin Hires and Meredith Eaton. In other changes for next season, Terry Matalas is replacing Craig O’Neill as exec producer/co-showrunner alongside Peter Lenkov. James Wan, Henry Winkler and Lee Zlotoff also executive produce. CBS TV Studios produces in association with Lionsgate.

Levy Tran is expected to be promoted to series regular on the just ordered fourth season of CBS’ action drama series MacGyver.

Tran was introduced as a recurring new character in the second half of the current third season designed to help fill the void left by the departure of series’ original co-lead George Eads.

Tran, who appeared in seven episodes, starting in February, plays Desiree Nguyen (Desi), who joins the Phoenix Foundation to protect MacGyver (Lucas Till) and his team on their global missions.

As CBS often does on its shows, Tran joined as a recurring with an option to become a series regular and potential new co-lead opposite Till If the introduction of her character was deemed successful and if MacGyver was renewed for a fourth season, both of which came to pass.

Eads, whose character Jack Dalton had previously worked with Desi, made his exit from MacGyver...

After spending a few months on the bubble, MacGyver will see a fourth season.

While not a critical darling, the show has done respectably well in its 8 Pm Friday time period, drawing 7.8 million viewers. With Blue Bloods and Hawaii Five-0 also renewed, CBS once again is keeping its Friday lineup intact.

MacGyver, a reimagining of the 1985 show, originated with Lucas Till and George Eads as leads. Eads exited the series this season, putting the future of the series in limbo. Levy Tran was brought in toward the end of this season as a recurring with an eye towards her possibly becoming a series regular/new co-lead. She is expected to continue next season as a series regular.
