It's always nice to hear a story where someone tells Hollywood to go f*ck itself. Which is, quite literally, what James Patterson did when executives asked him to re-write his iconic Alex Cross character as a white man. And now Cross television star Aldis Hodge — who plays the titular character — is speaking out about what it means to have kept Alex Cross a Black man.
Speaking with BuzzFeed, Hodge explained that he was "shocked, impressed, and proud" when he heard the author of the wildly successful Alex Cross novels was asked by some Hollywood executives to sign a seven-figure deal — but only if he changed the character's race to white.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last month, Patterson explained the story as such:
"Here's an interesting thing about the Hollywood 'Cross' stuff. When I wrote the first Alex Cross book, I didn't have a lot of money and Hollywood came calling — knock,...

The Canadian Screen Awards has unveiled nominations for the national film and TV prize-giving, and the CBC civil rights drama The Porter leads the film and TV field with 19 mentions in all, including for best small-screen drama.
The first Canadian drama series from an all-Black creative team, which also streams on BET+, centers on the lives of Black train porters and their families as they launch North America’s first Black labor union in the 1920s.
The TV categories, voted on by around 3,000 Canadian industry insiders, also sees the CBC series Detention Adventure and Sort Of – a Peabody award-winning show about a gender fluid young Muslim in Toronto played by Bilal Baig — nab 15 nominations each in an awards show shaping up to be a major showcase for people of color.
That follows Canadian film, and TV industry efforts to ensure diversity and inclusivity in the country’s indie production sector and prize-giving process.

Fox has picked up Canadian legal drama “Diggstown” from Entertainment One.
Created by Floyd Kane, and starring Vinessa Antoine, the series from Canadian public broadcaster CBC follows Marcie Diggs (Antoine), a star corporate lawyer who reconsiders her priorities and moves to work in a legal-aid office after her aunt commits suicide following the pressures of a malicious prosecution. Among a new group of ragtag lawyers, Marcie is driven by one thing: to never again allow innocent lives to be destroyed by the justice system.
Fox has swooped for seasons 1 and 2 of the drama. The acquisition marks the latest Canadian pick-up by a U.S. broadcaster — a trend that has grown in popularity in the last year as the Covid-19 crisis has stunted production Stateside but has had less of an impact north of the border.

Hulu series Utopia Falls takes a future-set sci-fi premise and injects with a pop culture explosion of music and dance.
Utopia Falls may, upon first glance, seem like an aesthetically clinical future-society-type story, but the Hulu sci-fi series is set to showcase its hybrid genre nature as a paean to the arts, specifically the entirety of a forbidden pop culture of the past. – Let’s just call it Logan’s Run meets Fame.

Matt Bomer, who is best known for his roles in White Collar, American Horror Story, and Glee, is the latest addition to the cast of DC’s Doom Patrol series. He will be taking on the role of Larry Trainor a.k.a. Negative Man in the series.
Bomer will join the previously cast Brendan Fraser as Robotman, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, Joivan Wade as Cyborg, and Alan Tudyk as Mr. Nobody.
Dwain Murphy was already cast as Negative Man and will be playing the man in the costume, while Bomer will come in for the flashback scenes and do the voiceover work, just like Brendan Fraser is doing with Robotman.
Larry Trainor is a test pilot, who is accidentally fused with radioactive energy during an accident. This gives Larry the ability to release a "Negative Man" from his body, who has the ability to fly,...

Some new set photos have surfaced from DC Universe's live-action Doom Patrol series and these give us our best look yet at the character Robotman. I absolutely love his look because it’s right out of the comic books!
Robotman is being played by Brendan Fraser in the series. He’s not the guy wearing the suit but he will be providing the voice and appear in flashback scenes as Cliff Steele.
Cliff Steele is a former race car driver who was in a crazy accident that left his body uninhabitable. Cliff’s brain was saved by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder and he lives on in a powerful robotic body.
I’m looking forward to seeing some official photos of these characters, but in the meantime check out the photos from the set here:

Timothy Dalton is returning to television.
The onetime James Bond has booked the leading role in DC Universe's Doom Patrol. The live-action role is Dalton's first series regular gig since he wrapped his three-season run on Showtime's Penny Dreadful in 2016.
Doom Patrol, based on the iconic DC Comics characters, will be written by Jeremy Carver (Supernatural), who will executive produce the 13-episode drama alongside Greg Berlanti — the prolific exec producer behind The CW's Arrow-verse — and Geoff Johns.

Some set photos have surfaced from DC Universe's live-action Doom Patrol series and they give us our first look at the main characters in the film, which include Dwain Murphy's Negative Man, Brendan Frasier's Robotman, April Bowlby's Elasti-Woman, and Diane Guerrero's Crazy Jane. Personally, I think the costumes that I'm seeing here for Negative Man and Robot Man look pretty cool. I'm sure they'll look even better in the series after all the post-production work is done. This is just such a fun team of characters and I'm really curious to see how this series turns out. Check out the photos below and let us know what you think of the look of the characters.

It’s time for Brendan Fraser to cue up “Mr. Roboto”: The actor has been cast in DC Universe’s forthcoming series Doom Patrol as Robotman, aka Cliff Steele, our sister site Deadline reports.
The Titans spinoff — written by Jeremy Carver (Frequency, Supernatural) — is described as “a reimagining of one of DC’s strangest group of outcasts,” which includes Robotman, Negative Man (played by The Strain‘s Dwain Murphy), Elasti-Girl (Two and a Half Men‘s April Bowlby) and Crazy Jane (Orange Is the New Black‘s Diane Guerrero). “Led by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder, they’re called...

One of the brand new shows coming to the DC Universe streaming service over late 2018 and 2019 is Doom Patrol. A spinoff of Titans, as the team will debut on that series first, the show will follow a band of misfit metahumans who become an unlikely superhero fighting force. With other projects in the works including Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol is by far the most obscure property that DC Universe is bringing to wider audiences, but it seems they’re hoping to turn these lesser-known characters into new fan favorites.
That Hashtag Show has reported that Doom Patrol is now casting for Crazy Jane, a member of the team. The site has got hold of some info on the role, too, and has revealed that Jane will be “somewhere in her 20s” and will possess “several personalities.” The most intriguing detail is that Ths claims she’ll be portrayed as “a...

When DC’s new streaming service, titled DC Universe, debuts later this year, its flagship show will be Titans, the first live-action adaptation of the teenage superhero team including Robin, Starfire and Beast Boy. In fact, the studio seems so confident in the series that they’ve already begun work on a spinoff in the form of Doom Patrol, an alternate team of misfit heroes who’ll first debut on Titans before getting their own vehicle.
Though this suggests a close relationship between the two projects, perhaps setting up an alternate DC TV shared universe to The CW’s Arrowverse, it seems some of the cast will differ. In particular, That Hashtag Show has revealed that Doom Patrol will feature a different actor in the role of Dr. Niles Caulder Aka the Chief, the gang’s somewhat Professor X-like mentor.
On Titans, Bruno Bichir will guest star as the character.

Titans, the live-action series set to land on Warner Bros.’ new streaming service DC Universe, won’t just be introducing us to the Teen Titans. That’s because it’ll also open the door to a much wider version of the comic book universe, with appearances from Doom Patrol – who’ll get their own spinoff show – and Hawk and Dove confirmed.
There’ve also been many reports that claim Batman is on his way, as well. This makes a lot of sense, too, seeing as Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson will be the protagonist of the show. It’s thought that Bruce Wayne will at least appear via flashbacks which reveal how the billionaire adopted Grayson and trained him up as his sidekick Robin. A new set photo, though, suggests that the Dark Knight, complete with cape and cowl, could also appear.

DC Entertainment is developing a live-action series adaptation of Doom Patrol and it's being developed by DC series regular Greg Berlanti. The show will air on the DC Universe digital service alongside Swamp Thing, Titans, and the Harley Quinn Animated series.
The Doom Patrol characters will actually first be introduced and set up in the live-action adaptation of Titans. They will make their first appearance in episode five. The Doom Patrol spin-off series will consist of 13-episodes.
What I love about this is that the characters involved are so fun, unique, and strange. They will be played by Bruno Bichir, April Bowlby, Jack Michaels, and Dwain Murphy. DC has released an official synopsis that you can read below.

DC’s Titans live-action TV series, which is headed to the company’s new streaming service DC Universe later this year, hasn’t even arrived yet, but it’s already got a spinoff. Following the team’s debut on the aforementioned show, Doom Patrol – based on another superhero group from the pages of DC comics – has been announced to be in the works.
The joint venture between Warner Bros. Digital Networks and DC Entertainment is apparently so impressive that it’s been ordered straight to series, with a 13-episode first season made up of hour-long installments in development. King of DC TV, Greg Berlanti will produce, with Supernatural‘s Jeremy Carver on board as head writer.

A Doom Patrol live-action TV series is coming to the DC Universe streaming service. Here's everything you need to know.
The weirdest team in all of comics is arriving with a live-action TV series from DC TV mastermind Greg Berlanti. The Doom Patrol were first introduced on the Titans TV show, and will spin off into its own 13-episode series on the DC Universe digital service.
Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.
Following the same ethos from the original comics, the Doom Patrol will take on a mission that's just too weird for the Justice League.

DC’s upcoming Titans live-action series has expanded the ranks of its Doom Patrol with the casting Dwain Murphy as founding member Negative Man.
Introduced in 1963 in DC Comics’ My Greatest Adventure #80, the original Negative Man was Larry Trainor, a U.S. Air Force test pilot who was exposed to a radioactive field while flying an experimental jet. As a result, he’s imbued with a strange power that enables him to discharge energy from this body in the form of a shadowy silhouette referred to as the Negative Man, or the Negative Spirit, which can fly, pass through solid material, and cause objects to explode.

How She Move
Arriving almost exactly one year after the surprise boxoffice hit "Stomp the Yard" is this grittier, Canadian-made drama also showcasing the exhilarating urban dance form.
Considering that it features the sort of cliched story line that wouldn't have been out of place in an Andy Hardy movie, "How She Move" doesn't exactly break any new ground. But the terrific dance numbers on display should please its teenage target audience.
Set in the gritty Jane-Finch Corridor of Toronto, the film depicts the travails of young Raya Green (Rutina Wesley), the daughter of hard-working Jamaican immigrants. It looked like Raya, a terrific dancer as well as brilliant student, was on the fast track out of the ghetto, thanks to her acceptance into an exclusive prep school. But when her sister dies of a drug overdose, she's forced to return to the public school in her own neighborhood where she started her education.
But she thinks she's found a way back out in the form of a dance competition featuring a major cash payoff. She persuades the members of the all-male "Jane Street Junta" to allow her to join their dance outfit led by the charismatic Bishop (Dwain Murphy). It isn't long before sparks fly between the two, as Raya dazzles him and the other boys in the group with her aggressive dance moves. But her determination to succeed at any cost drives a wedge between her and her fellow troupe members, and Raya ultimately has to decide where her true loyalties lie.
Annmarie Morais' semi-autobiographical script admirably attempts to inject thoughtful sociological ideas into the mix, displaying a thematic complexity uncommon to such teen-oriented genre efforts. But the strength of the film ultimately comes less from the dramatic elements than the highly energetic dance numbers choreographed by Hi Hat that, while not photographed to their best advantage, nonetheless manage to be thrilling.
Director Ian Iqbal Rashid, using mainly 16mm hand-held photography, applies an interestingly gritty touch to the proceedings. Young Wesley displays an intense charisma and powerful moves in the central role, while Melanie Nicholls-King is deeply moving as Raya's concerned Mom.
