Tatsuki Fujimoto, the author and illustrator of Chainsaw Man, reflects on his life as a manga artist with Shonen Jump. In a recent 2024 interview, Fujimoto opens up about how the social stigma of becoming a manga artist affected his life and how much of that is reflected in his characters like Denji and Fujino in Look Back.
In the September 2024 issue of Unitas Magazine, Fujimoto briefly spoke about his manga career, including past and present works like Chainsaw Man, Look Back and Fire Punch. Key quotes from the interview were shared on Reddit, detailing his early life and creative process. Although Fujimotos Shonen Jump career is viewed today as an inspiring success story, his family initially feared for the worst. "One night, I got up and went to the living room, and I overheard my parents talking," Fujimoto said. "They said, 'If Tatsuki continues like this, he might not find...

The NBC comedy pilot based on the Kevin Hart film “Night School” is not moving forward at NBC, Variety has learned exclusively.
The half-hour multi-cam had originally gotten a pilot order in January, but the pandemic shutdown virtually all pilot production in March. Like the film, “Night School” follows a a unique mix of adults at a night school Ged prep class who unexpectedly bond over their shared experience and find themselves helping each other both inside and outside of the classroom. It starred Shanola Hampton in the role played by Tiffany Haddish in the film, with Josh Segarra playing the role played by Hart. The cast also included Ian Gomez, James Earl, Joe Massingill, and Collette Wolfe.

[Warning: The below article contains spoilers for “You’re the Worst” Season 3, through the finale.]
“There is no family.”
Those were the only words I heard during Jimmy’s loquacious diatribe about being “post-family” (like “Thoreau or the Unabomber”) that kicked off the Season 3 finale of “You’re the Worst.” As is fitting for a series so beautifully written (Episode 13, “No Longer Just Us,” by Stephen Falk, Franklin Hardy and Shane Kosakowski), the beginning foreshadowed the ending without giving it away. In fact, the final moments turned the opening scene on its head.
So when Gretchen started gushing with joy post-proposal about how they’re “a family now,” “no longer just ‘us,'” it was quite clear the happy ending in Jimmy’s new novel wouldn’t come true for the romantic pair at the center of our story.
Instead, “You’re the Worst’s” bold third season wrapped on a note similar to this:
For those unfamiliar with “The Leftovers,” just trust in the...

Gender behaviour is flipped when magic dusts over Sam Huntington (Sully, Superman Returns) and Collette Wolfe (Hot Tub Time Machine, Interstellar) in the hilarious new “bodyswap” comedy Second Nature - the directing debut of Seattle filmmaker Michael Cross. The film will have its world premiere at the Napa Valley Film Festival on November 10th; with a wider release expected in 2017.
Upon the sudden death of a local politician, Amanda (Wolfe) and Bret (Huntington) both jump at the chance to run for mayor; but the two former classmates have very different ideas about how to run their small town. Amanda hopes to protect her frail grandmother and others in need. Bret, on the other hand, has a pro strip club agenda and is backed by the corrupt and inept city council. Their worlds are flipped around when Bret snatches an antique, magic mirror from Amanda’s hands during a heated argument.

A quick review of tonight's You're the Worst coming up just as soon as I try to eat an area rug... Where You're the Worst can struggle at times with more traditionally-structured ensemble episodes designed to give each main character his or her own storyline, "Talking to Me, Talking to Me" felt nicely balanced, and equally bittersweet throughout. It helped that Gretchen's quest for mindfulness linked together her story with Jimmy and Lindsay's, but this was the rare Ytw of this type where none of the stories felt underfed. If I have any major objection at all, it's that Paul's cameo (via text, jpg, and audio message) in the Lindsay subplot seemed to fly in the face of what we saw of him in "The Seventh Layer." In that one, it seemed he had finally accepted that Lindsay was an awful person who didn't love him, and he was...

What would the world look like if gender roles were reversed? How would things change? Michael Cross’ new comedy “Second Nature” takes a hard look at gender stereotyping by seeing what would happen if a man and a woman campaigned against each other in a world where women experience traditionally male privilege.

True “dramedies” feel like a dying breed. Some shows are great miniature 30-minute dramas disguised as comedies (as Julie Klausner would say), like Hulu’s cute and compassionate show Casual. Others lean more on the straight-up humor side of things without diving too deep into dramatic weeds, a.k.a. anytime the bunker is brought up on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
You’re the Worst is the much-needed middle ground. Creator Stephen Falk is so unafraid to stock his show with characters that live up to its title, and then some, that it makes it far easier to stomach any of the dark turns that are frequently taken. After all, with people this mean-spirited and self-centered, it’d be unbelievable if the writing only had bawdy humor on its mind. Thankfully, it doesn’t, and season 3 not only carries last year’s unsettling reveal...

"You're the Worst" just concluded a terrific season, which went darker than I think anyone would have expected even last year, as the show dealt bluntly with Gretchen's battles with clinical depression. My review of the finale is here, and I have a lot of thoughts on the season as a whole from creator Stephen Falk coming up just as soon as I wear my booby shirt... I want to start off with a question about the biggest and most important story arc of season 2 — which is, of course, the “new phone who dis” running gag. At what point did you realize that was more than just a one-off, and you were just going to keep that as one of the weird through-lines to the season? Stephen Falk: We make it through our days by coming up with these little things. I do have sort of a lofty idea about the show in that,...

A review of tonight's "You're the Worst" coming up just as soon as I recognize this building from the opening credits of "Better Off Ted"... The original "Sunday Funday" was arguably the funniest episode of "You're the Worst" season 1, but also the show's most atypical installment, collecting lots of funny jokes ("Daniel Craig?!?! He looks like an upset baby!") and situations but keeping the dysfunction of Jimmy and Gretchen's relationship to a minimum. Given the episode's popularity, I wouldn't have blamed Stephen Falk and company if they had just stuck to the basics for it, like the "Bar Wars" episodes of "Cheers," or the annual Halloween contest on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." But "Spooky Sunday Funday" is something else entirely, not only combining the original concept with Halloween costumes and tons of horror movie tropes, but something that stays deep inside the tough emotional territory the show's been exploring lately. Jimmy inevitably...

After playing Jimmy Olsen in “Superman Returns” and appearing in the “Veronica Mars” movie, Sam Huntington is back in business with Warner Bros., as he has joined the cast of Clint Eastwood‘s drama “Sully,” TheWrap has learned. Huntington has also landed a lead role in the romantic comedy “Second Nature” opposite Collette Wolfe. Eastwood’s movie stars Tom Hanks as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who became an American hero when he landed his disabled jet on the Hudson River in 2009, saving the lives of everyone aboard. The incident was captured on video that was viewed around the world. “Sully” aims to go.

A review of tonight's "You're the Worst" coming up just as soon as I'm like Reese Witherspoon in that commercial for backpacks... If the last few outings felt as if they were trying to squeeze a little too much into each episode, then "Side Bitch" had everything nicely in proportion. Lots going on, including the return of Ty Wyland, but nothing felt rushed, and everybody had their moment. Lindsay's complete inability to function in the real world without Paul to take care of bill paying and basic maintenance, for instance, set up that great set piece of her trying and failing to walk, then bike, home from her lunch date with Jimmy, with Kether Donohue toggling amusingly between triumphant and trainwreck. And even though Collette Wolfe'ss only been around for a couple of weeks, Dorothy already feels like one of the more well-rounded characters on the show, and...

A quick review of tonight's "You're the Worst" coming up just as soon as I burn Charles Dickens... Okay, so I was wrong last week in assuming that Gretchen was bailing on Jimmy and the relationship altogether. Instead, it appears she's regularly disappearing into the night, for reasons we're not yet privy to, and now Jimmy has observed her comings and goings. So it's a mystery. Hmm... As for the rest of "We Can Do Better Than This," it had a nice balance of material for all four leads, particularly Jimmy again grappling with the limitations of his own talent, before realizing that the erotica(*) he wrote when he was 11 was the way out of his creative rut. But Gretchen and Lindsay's struggle to find something meaningful to discuss (while making the poor fro-yo shop cashier's life miserable) was amusing, and the introduction of Collette Wolfe as Edgar's improv...

Christopher Nolan: Next movie has release date. Next Christopher Nolan movie release date Warner Bros. will release the first post-Interstellar Christopher Nolan movie on July 21, '17. Paramount handled the domestic release, while Warners took care of the international distribution. Over the course of its first season, "You're the Worst" — a romantic comedy about two terrible human beings (played by Chris Geere and Aya Cash) who would vomit at the thought that they are the hero and heroine of a romantic comedy — went from a show I felt pretty ambivalent about to one of my favorite shows on TV. It's been nearly a year since the last original episode aired on FX, in part because the show has moved over to the younger-skewing Fxx channel(*), but based on the new season's first two episodes (it premieres tomorrow night at 10:30), the wait was worth it. (*) Every mention of the network shift brings with it some doomsday theory about how FX is sending the show to Fxx to kill it. All that paranoia seems rooted entirely in the failure of "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell" when it made the switch,...

Adam Scott makes Clark Duke crack up by revealing a few hit "family shows" in the future in our exclusive gag reel for the 'Hotter and Wetter' Unrated Cut of Hot Tub Time Machine 2, which debuts on Digital HD formats and iTunes today before its Blu-ray and DVD release later this spring. Apparently, in this comedy sequel's version of the future, shows such as Butthole Party, Vagina Pander, Vagina Panda and Butthole Fiesta air at 7 Pm on Sunday nights. Adam Scott is one of the new cast members for this sequel, playing Adam Jr., the son of John Cusack's character from the 2010 comedy Hot Tub Time Machine.
Nick (Craig Robinson), Jacob (Clark Duke) and Lou (Rob Corddry) have all changed their lives thanks to the power of the hot tub time machine. Everything is going well until tragedy befalls Lou, who is now the inventor of the Internet.

“Hot Tub Time Machine 2” should have been both a flop and a disaster, but it ended up being neither. Based on a simple conceit spelled out in the title, and with a very no-stars-lead cast, “Hot Tub Time Machine 2” should have been as throw away as it sounds, but Steve Pink's movie turned out to be quite the endearing, funny and bawdy little comedy. For the sequel, thespian John Cusack has not returned, perhaps too busy starring in recent classics like “Drive Hard,” “The Bag Man,” “The Prince” and “Reclaim.” But the original cast of Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, Clark Duke and Chevy Chase, are back this time joined by Adam Scott, Gillian Jacob, Thomas Lennon, Christian Slater, Collette Wolfe and “Mad Men” star Jessica Paré who, how shall we put it, elevated her game in the original. Here’s the all-important synopsis: When Lou (Rob Corddry) finds himself in trouble,...

Director Steve Pink and writer Josh Heald have been pretty apt at predicting the future thus far with their upcoming time travel comedy sequel Hot Tub Time Machine 2. First, they were able to throw together a Super Bowl trailer that perfectly parodied the New England Patriots Inflate-Gate scandal. Now, a new clip has arrived that predicts Jessica Williams will be the new host of The Daily Show as the Comedy Central mainstay becomes a leading source in global news.
As you may know by now, Jon Stewart announced earlier this week that he is leaving The Daily Show by the end of the year. Now, we get a sneak peek at what his absence might feel like. And it doesn't look half bad. Of course, this is ten years away, so it's any guess who might step in for Jon Stewart before Jessica Williams takes over the hot seat.

Nick Webber (Craig Robinson) finds himself on a bizarre game show entitled Choozy Doozy, hosted by Christian Slater, in a new red band clip from Hot Tub Time Machine 2. This fame and fortune eventually leads him to appear on Choozy Doozy, where members of the audience choose crazy things for the guest to do. Unfortunately, Lou (Rob Corddry) has a hilarious idea for Nick, although the tables get turned quickly.

A new trailer for "Hot Tub Time Machine 2" reunites three-quarters of the original gang -- Lou (Rob Corddry), Nick (Craig Robinson), and Jacob (Clark Duke) -- for even more time-traveling shenanigans, only in this version, the trio is actively trying to alter the past.
Unfortunately for the gang, that plan doesn't go as well as the first time around. While their inadvertent trip to the '80s in the first flick allowed them to return to the present with lots of insider knowledge -- Lou has invented the internet, while Nick has become a famous musician thanks to penning popular tunes like "Call Me Maybe" more than a decade before Carly Rae Jepsen stormed the charts -- it seems that the trio has now fallen on hard times.
Naturally, they decide to take another dip in the fateful tub to determine what went wrong, but can't quite control where they land in time.

Chicago – It was Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at 10:15 p.m. Leaving Navy Pier IMAX, I was driving north on Lake Shore Drive – a constantly busy, multi-lane highway that hugs the east of Chicago and separates it from water.
What I saw next with fellow staff critic Patrick McDonald might have been normal for 3 a.m., but discussing Christopher Nolan’s new sci-fi “Interstellar” and being the only one on the road in either direction felt otherworldly.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
While certainly unusual, it speaks to my state of mind and how the film hit me with a ton of bricks. It felt epic and simultaneously intimate – being one of only a few dozen critics comfortably spread out among 440 seats – and could have only been experienced correctly on a 6-story, 60-by-80-foot screen. Don’t make the mistake of seeing this film in anything but IMAX.

'Interstellar' movie review: 'Ravishing, but overextended mind-bender' (photo: Anne Hathaway in 'Interstellar') There are many intriguing questions raised in director Christopher Nolan's ravishing, overextended mind-bender Interstellar. One of the first: has a theoretical physicist ever received an executive producer credit on a nine-figure, studio movie? Probably not, but if 74-year old Caltech professor Kip Thorne were to find any director willing to tap his intellect for an above-the-line credit, it would be Nolan. His movies are puzzle boxes of plot and theme that have become grander in scope as they've become more opaque in effect. At this point, every Nolan film contains the moment when we ask ourselves if the director himself has completely thought everything through. That's certainly true of Interstellar, where the London-born director and his screenwriter brother Jonathan utilize Thorne's theories on relativity and gravitational physics to bandy about questions as deep...

Amazon keeps accelerating the pace and output of its "pilot season" process. The original batch of Amazon pilots were presented to the public in April of last year; of those, only "Alpha House" (which got renewed for a second season) and "Betas" (which remains in limbo) got picked up. The second batch of pilots were unveiled less than a year later, and Amazon ordered almost all of them — other than "Rebels," the pro football comedy that no one seemed to like — to series. That was in February, and while none of those new shows has debuted — "Transparent," the best of the bunch, will premiere all of its episodes, Netflix-style, on September 26 — Amazon yesterday unveiled its third pilot season, even as there's already news about casting for the fourth wave of Amazon pilots. At this rate, they may be ordering some shows before a word's even been written, and traveling back...

Hello again, dear readers. There are only two weeks left in August, and the summer movie season has started winding down. With that in mind, it’s time to start looking ahead to what’s coming out in the fall and winter. And this week’s Trailer Trashin’ examines what looks like a very promising November release – Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi film Interstellar.

Big news today: We’re excited to announce Amazon Studios’ third pilot season, beginning August 28th and featuring three half hour comedies The Cosmopolitans, Really and Red Oaks, and two hour-long dramatic thrillers Hand of God and Hysteria. For one month, it will be up to you to watch, rate and comment – ultimately helping us decide which of them get the greenlight.
“There is something for everyone in this season,” says Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. The glamorous life of modern day expats in Paris. The hijinks of a summer job at a country club in 1980s New Jersey. The visions of a vigilante judge who appears to be channeling God. The complexities of marriage and friendship among a circle of friends in suburban Chicago. And the mysteries behind a psycho-physiological illness spreading through a small town in Texas.

"Hot Tub Time Machine" was an unlikely hit when it debuted back in 2010, with the quirky, R-rated comedy hitting the sweet spot between "totally ridiculous" and "totally hilarious." Now, the gang is back for another dip in the titular time-traveling device, only this time they deliberately want to change the past -- but wind up in the future instead.
Finally, the follow-up has a red band trailer, and buddies Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke are all reprising their roles from the original. (John Cusack is sitting this one out.) The sequel finds Corddry's character, Lou (last seen in the first flick as a gazillionaire thanks to his stealing the idea for Google), in trouble and needing his friends to bail him out. But much like in the original, things don't exactly go as planned. Prepare for more debauchery, oodles of pop culture references, and what looks like a psychedelic sequence featuring neon ladybugs.

Courtesy of EW comes this first, small look at Atom Egoyan‘s Devil’s Knot, the dramatization of the horrible tale of the West Memphis Three, a trio of teenage boys who were convicted in the 1993 murders of three eight year-old boys despite a lack of evidence. Though the incident has been the subject of several documentaries, this is the first time their story has come to the big screen as a factual, but fictionalized drama based on a 2002 nonfiction book of the same name by Mara Leveritt. Colin Firth is front and center in the only two stills released, and handsome as the man is, they’re not giving us much to work with before the film’s premiere at Tiff. Firth plays Ron Lax, a private investigator who worked to find DNA evidence that proved the three teens may not have committed the heinous crimes. In the first image, Firth...
