Emílio Garrastazu Médici was born on 4 December 1905 in Bagé, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He died on 9 October 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He was the 28th President of Brazil, the third during the period of the Brazilian military dictatorship (1969-1974). During his administration, Brazil saw the greatest level of political repression and torture even while the economy went through a temporary boom.
