When the 77th Tony Awards nominations are announced this morning, those honored with recognition will have been selected by a small group of theatre professionals who commit to seeing each and every eligible production that opened during the 2023-2024 season. They are thus able to make informed decisions on what shows, performers and creatives should earn the spotlight of New York theatre’s top honor.
This past season, 60 theatre professionals saw all 36 eligible musicals, play, and revivals and will select the nominees in 26 competitive categories.
Below, see a complete list of the 2023-2024 Tony Awards nominating committee members, including their professions plus past Tony nominations and wins. Some of these nominators may have to recuse themselves prior to voting if they have a conflict, such as if a production that they worked is eligible for a nomination this year.

The Gossip Girl reboot removed a major element of the original series: the mystery surrounding Gossip Girl's true identity. The new Gossip Girl's identity was revealed in the first episode, unlike the original series which waited until the finale for the reveal. The reboot lacked the curiosity and intrigue of the original series, which affected its success and audience engagement.
The short-lived Gossip Girl reboot changed one crucial element of the original series that should have never been messed with. Based on the book series of the same name by Cecily von Ziegesar, Gossip Girl follows a group of wealthy, privileged teenagers on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, whose business is put on blast by an anonymous, all-knowing blogger named "Gossip Girl." After a six-season run from 2007 to 2012, Gossip Girl was revived in 2021 by former executive producer Joshua Safran.
There were some key differences between the Gossip Girl reboot and the original.

The Tony Awards has added new members to its nominating committee, including Ain’t No Mo star and playwright Jordan E. Cooper and Kpop composer Helen Park, who have both been outspoken about the need for change within the industry.
Other new members joining for the 2023-2024 Broadway season include The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen songwriter Benj Pasek, actor Bob Balaban, actor and playwright Adam Chanler-Berat, interdisciplinary artist Ty Defoe and director Miranda Haymon.
The Tony Awards nominating committee is typically younger and more diverse than the larger Tony Awards voting body. However, the addition of Cooper and Park is particularly notable, as both had shows this past season that posted early closing notices and have spoken out about the need for Broadway to improve how it markets to and welcomes diverse audiences (Kpop is about competing Korean pop bands, while Ain’t No Mo’ follows a series...

Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for the Gossip Girl Season 2 finale.Since teachers Kate (Tavi Gevinson), Jordan (Adam Chanler-Berat), and Wendy (Megan Ferguson) revived the defunct Gossip Girl moniker made famous for its ruthless coverage of the elite by one Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) on HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot, they have sought to better the students at Constance and St. Jude’s by holding them accountable. They’ve taken aspects of the original website and shifted them for a modern twist with an Instagram account, sharing secrets that pour into their direct messages from peers, teachers, and adults alike. They’ve caused real harm to some, like damaging Julien (Jordan Alexander) and her reputation when accusers were coming forward to name her father Davis (Luke Kirby) as a sexual predator. They’ve stalked, harassed, and made defamatory statements about their targets. So, when Camille de Haan (Amanda Warren...

NYC’s messiest Instagram account is typing its “XOXOs” for the last time. “Gossip Girl,” the HBO Max series and sequel to the CW hit of the same name, has been canceled, the streamer announced Thursday. The news comes in the middle of the show’s Season 2 run, which began on December 1 and will conclude January 26.
In a tweet Thursday, showrunner and executive producer Joshua Safran stated he intends to shop “Gossip Girl” to other outlets.
“We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill battle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs,” Safran wrote in his tweet.
The series, which premiered in July 2021 to considerable hype, is a continuation of the original 2007 series of the same name created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Based on the young adult series by Cecily von Ziegesar,...

When teachers Kate Keller (Tavi Gevinson), Jordan Glassberg (Adam Chanler-Berat), and Wendy (Megan Ferguson) decided to revive the Gossip Girl legacy made infamous by one Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), they needed a hook to lure people in. What the original Gossip Girl (the show and the website) excelled at was the rivalry between frenemies Serena (Blake Lively) and Blair (Leighton Meester), whose turbulent relationship shook the Upper East Side of New York on practically a daily basis. Trying to follow in the footsteps of their predecessor, the teachers found their own rivalry to focus on in HBO Max's Gossip Girl reboot: Queen of Constance Julien Calloway (Jordan Alexander) and her long-lost younger sister Zoya Lott (Whitney Peak).

Blair (Leighton Meester) and Serena (Blake Lively). When you think of the original Gossip Girl, those two characters and their incredibly complex friendship is the first thing to come to mind. When creating the reboot, how to create a friendship and rivalry as deep was something the writers chose to not only explore among themselves but also introduced this thread into the series as something the new Gossip Girl — teachers Kate (Tavi Gevinson), Jordan (Adam Chanler-Berat), and Wendy (Megan Ferguson) — had to consider. They had their It Girl and Queen of Constance, Julien (Jordan Alexander), but who would be on the opposite side of things? Their choice, Zoya (Whitney Peak), was clearly unfit for rival status and the first season suffered because of it. However, the second season has begun with Monet (Savannah Lee Smith) declaring war on her frenemy Julien, proving herself a much better rival in just two...

The second season of HBO Max's reboot of Gossip Girl has been in production for a while now, and the latest tease hints at a big comeback.
The social media accounts for the series shared a video of a brunette woman sitting in an empty theater, clearly enjoying what is happening on stage.
“It only takes one spark to start a fire,” the video teases.
In the caption, the message continues: “And I have a feeling that this city is about to burn.”
The video quality is not great, which is probably intentional to keep fans guessing the mystery person's identity.

Given the "spark" and the fact that this person is going to upend the lives of the Upper East Siders, it certainly sounds like Georgina Sparks is coming back into the fold.

HBO Max has renewed the “Gossip Girl” revival for a second season, proclaiming “record viewership over its first weekend on the platform.” The 12-episode first season has been broken up into two parts, and its second six episodes will roll out in November. Using the vague language typical of streaming services, HBO Max called “Gossip Girl” its “best launch for a Max Original Drama series this year” in the renewal announcement.

Gossip Girl is on hiatus.
HBO Max on Thursday revealed the reboot will return in November with Part Two of its 12-episode first season with the final six episodes.
No definite date that month has been set, but hey, at least we know it's coming back this year, and after Gossip Girl (2021) Season 1 Episode 6, we gave a lot to ponder until then.
Developed by showrunner Joshua Safran, a writer and executive producer on the original series, this extension of the pop culture classic takes us back to the Upper East Side finding a new generation of New York private school teens being introduced to social surveillance nine years after the original blogger's website went dark.
The series is based on the bestselling novels by Cecily von Ziegesar and the original show, developed by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage, which ran from 2007-2012 on The CW.

HBO Max said Thursday that its Gossip Girl reboot will return in November for Part 2 of its first season with the final six episodes. A specific date was not announced.
Like the original series, the new iteration of Gossip Girl, written by showrunner Joshua Safran, is based on the book by Cecily von Ziegesar and the original show, developd by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage, which ran from 2007-2012 on The CW. Nine years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens is introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The long wait for the Gossip Girl reboot just got longer.
The HBO Max update of the 2007-12 CW drama has been pushed to 2021, according to Vulture.
The popular teen drama series – which originally starred Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgley, Chase Crawford, and Taylor Momsen, among others – was set to get a modern-day reboot, complete with a whole new cast on the new WarnerMedia-owned streamer.
Unfortunately, the series was set to go into production around the time the filming shutdowns brought on by the spread of Covid-19, effectively meaning a 2020 premiere would be unrealistic.
"They hadn’t even started production yet; they were in pre-production and ready to roll," HBO Max chief content officer Kevin Reilly recently told the outlet.
"Things that would have been really meaningful and high profile have gotten pushed back," he added of the decision.

Thomas Doherty is leaving Mystic Falls behind.
The Legacies actor has joined the cast of HBO Max's Gossip Girl reboot.
As is typical with this reboot, no character details have been revealed, meaning that we'll just have to wait to find out who he's playing.
Doherty is best known for his role on Disney Channel's Descendants movies.
He also starred on Hulu's High Fidelity earlier this year and HBO's Catherine the Great.
Doherty has been recurring on Legacies Season 2, playing a 500-year-old vampire with distinct views on how people should be living in this day and age.
He attracted the attention of Lizzie Saltzman, but his storyline seemingly came to a dramatic conclusion on Legacies Season 2 Episode 13 when he was left in the prison world.
Viewers were left to question his fate, and given how busy the actor is, it's unlikely he will reprise the role any time soon.

Thomas Doherty is retracting his fangs and making tracks for the Upper East Side — though something tells us he’ll need them there, too. Doherty, who recurs as ancient vampire hottie Sebastian on The CW’s Legacies, is joining the cast of HBO Max’s upcoming Gossip Girl reboot, TVLine has learned.
In addition to his stint in Mystic Falls, the Scottish-born actor has also held down roles on Hulu’s High Fidelity series, HBO’s Catherine the Great miniseries, and Disney Channel’s Descendants movies.

Nevertheless, she persists, that maid of Orleans, and by the end of the Manhattan Theatre Club’s attractive, not flawless, Broadway revival of Shaw’s Saint Joan, starring the endearing Condola Rashad, resistance is mostly futile.
Directed by Daniel Sullivan with an easy flow that appears to modernize the 1923 play and keep all that Shavian verbiage moving at a smart clip, Saint Joan would seem an ideal resurrection for an era of #MeToo and the rejection of binary gender cages, but this Joan doesn’t quite drive its sword into that ground as forcefully as you might hope.
Instead, Sullivan and Rashad hit harder on the play’s lament over society’s treatment of its Saints, a sympathy that, in theory at least, would extend to, say, a Saint John. Rashad – a Tony nominee for last year’s A Doll’s House, Part 2 and star of TV’s Billions – plays...

Fifteen years after “Amélie” first charmed moviegoers around the world, the achievements of director Jean-Pierre Jeunet and writer Guillaume Laurant are still remarkable. A sumptuous modern love story, the film was filled with enough cross-city chasing and dramatic camera movements to make a viewer feel like they’d had a full exercise during the two-hour running time.
In contrast, “Amélie: A New Musical,” which saw its Los Angeles premiere last week, is a relative stroll through Paris that’s still colorful fun without quite the same degree of satisfaction. However, what this stage version lacks in drive, it supplants with a breezy, pared-down version of plot and atmosphere more in line with the tastes of a casual theatergoing American audience.
Craig Lucas’ book sticks fairly close to the film’s basic skeleton: Amélie Poulain, a comfortably single and romantic-at-heart café waitress, makes a fateful discovery in her apartment. Stumbling on...
