As part of its Limelight series of audio dramas, BBC will be debuting on December 27th the audio thriller “Don’t Listen to This” on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds. Created by Pulitzer Prize-winning Canadian writer Anthony Del Col, the story centers on the death of a top esports athlete and his former team psychologist’s journey to uncover the truth behind it. Her journey through the world of esports – its fans, owners and players - leads her towards the abandoned development of an online arena battle game, its deceased creator and an audio clip from a cut scene… that may have the power to kill people.

Before Kraven the Hunter lands in theaters, fans can enjoy one of Aaron Taylor-Johnson's best superhero films for free at the beginning of December.
Before Taylor-Johnson assumed the role of Kraven the Hunter or Quicksilver in the MCU, the actor was the star of Matthew Vaughn's irreverent superhero flick Kick-Ass, which will be available to stream for free on Tubi on Dec. 1. Based on the comics created by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., Kick-Ass follows Dave Lizewski (Taylor-Johnson), a high school student with an affinity for comic books who decides to become a superhero of his own. As Dave begins attracting attention for his crime-saving antics, he allies with a father-daughter vigilante duo who seek revenge on the notorious mobster, Frank D'Amico.

The 16th century literary classic Journey to the West is the mother of all Chinese fantasy. The mythological saga has spawned countless adaptations in various media across Asia and beyond, from the cult late ‘70s Japanese TV series to Peking Opera, videogames, graphic novels and a stage spectacle with a score by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and design elements by Gorillaz illustrator Jamie Hewlett.
Prominent among the innumerable film versions is the 2013 blockbuster Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, directed by Stephen Chow. A similar livewire action-comedy energy infuses Netflix’s The Monkey King, a children’s animated feature based on the sprawling novel’s most popular strand, on which Chow serves as executive producer.
Following well-received originals like Klaus, Over the Moon, My Father’s Dragon, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Richard Linklater’s Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood — plus such smart acquisitions as The Mitchells vs. the Machines...

"Maybe defeating everyone isn't the answer. Maybe... it's helping other people." Netflix has revealed the trailer for The Monkey King animated movie, directed by animation filmmaker Anthony Stacchi, with animation by ReelFX. Inspired by an epic Chinese tale, The Monkey King is an action-packed family comedy that follows a charismatic Monkey (voiced by Jimmy O. Yang) and his magical fighting Stick on an epic quest for victory fighting over 100 demons, an eccentric Dragon King, and Monkey’s greatest foe of all —his own ego! This will be streaming on Netflix worldwide starting in August. Sounds like fun! The voice cast includes Jimmy O. Yang with Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Nan Li, Bowen Yang, Jo Koy, Ron Yuan, Hoon Lee, Bd Wong, Andrew Kishino, Sophie Wu and many others. This reminds me of DreamWorks' Kung Fu Panda in the look and feel. I can appreciate how they handle the plot about his ego,...

Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Andy Serkis, Mark Strong, Ben Medelsohn, Harry Treadaway, Jack Huston and Mark Hamill are set to lead the star-studded cast of the upcoming major video game title "Star Citizen". Rhona Mitra, John Rhys Davies, Liam Cunningham, Sophie Wu and Craig Fairbrass also star in the PC space simulator which is actually made up of two components.
While the full game is a massive multiplayer ongoing universe along the lines of others in this field such as "Eve Online," this one also features a more traditional story-based single-player campaign element titled "Squadron 42" built on the CryEngine (the "Crysis" games) and with Oculus Rift support. All these cast members are a part of this 'Squadron 42' element which is dubbed the "spiritual successor to Wing Commander".
The story is set in a 30th-century Milky Way and centers on the fictional United Empire of Earth, a galactic analogue of the late Roman Empire.

While the summer is an excuse for the movie studios to roll out their biggest offerings, television executives are much more afraid of warm weather, leaving the television dial mostly as a wasteland of repeats and reality shows. As such, the TV season essentially gets underway in September and runs through to May (with cable dramas occasionally moving the goalposts a little either way -- "Breaking Bad" starts in July, "The Newsroom" next week).
As such, TV should probably be judged on a slightly different schedule, and to mark the passing of the season (arguably which just ended with "Mad Men"; read our season finale recap here), we've run down, as we did last year, our ten favorite shows of the season. Title: Tonight, You’re Mine Director: David Mackenzie Cast: Luke Treadaway, Natalia Tena, Mathew Baynton, Alastair Mackenzie, Kari Corbett, Sophie Wu and Al Green (Yes, That Al Green) It feels reductive to look down upon romantic comedies. Some say, they’re formulaic, conventional and are overly saccharin. The same can be said of any genre and any bad movie. As put, a bad movie is a bad movie, and by the same token, a good movie is a good movie. “Tonight, You’re Mine” is a good movie. On the surface, it’s a concert movie but underneath it, it’s a romantic comedy, a good one at that. It turns the mundane into interesting [ Read More ]...

Chicago – Sorry SyFy fans and those of you addicted to CW goodies like “The Vampire Diaries” and “Supernatural,” but if I could have only one network for genre TV it would be BBC America. “Doctor Who,” “Torchwood,” “Being Human” — all rule. The Fades, Series One
Created by Jack Thorne (whose previous writing credits include Skins, This Is England and Shameless), this six-part supernatual horror series which originally aired in the UK on BBC3 last year, has now arrived on BBC America. Perhaps half-inspired by the success of E4′s superhero drama Misfits, The Fades marks BBC3′s next foray into the subgenre of the youth-skewed horror-fantasy. The Fades may just very well be one of the most promising new series of 2011, in the sense that it has the potential to really make waves if given a second series. The series manages to kick plenty of ass by breathing some much needed fresh air into the over-saturated genre; will that be enough for the series to sign for another year, or will The Fades simply fade away as the next “one-season wonder”?
Those hungry for dark science fiction, look no further. This highly ambitious,...

Chicago – “My only friend is either a lunatic or Heather Langenkamp.” It’s clever lines like that keep BBC’s “The Fades” from becoming yet-another teen supernatural drama (the Brit’s “The Vampire Diaries,” if you will) along with a relative consistency of tone and with some strong performances. There’s still something about “The Fades” that holds it back from the best that BBC America has to offer — “Being Human,” “Doctor Who,” early “Primeval,” the now-gone “Torchwood” — but it’s worth a look, especially for those of you know who Heather Langenkamp is.

Wednesdays are about to get more than a little spooky thanks to new supernatural drama, The Fades, on BBC Three.
The Fades stars Iain De Caestecker (River City, Coronation Street) as Paul a teenage haunted by apocalyptic nightmares and if that’s not bad enough he now started to see the Fades as well.
But who or what exactly are the Fades? Just beyond the veil of the living lie the Fades, the spirits of the dead who haunt the living. They’re all around but they can’t be seen, smelt, heard or touched by living beings. Up until now the Fades have floated around not causing much trouble to us living folk, but now one of them has found away to break the barrier between the living and the dead, which can only lead to all manner of hell breaking loose.
As the only person able to see the Fades,...

Sometimes the geek world isn't even a tube ride away for me. I live within a stone's throw of a pretty cool-looking disused railway tunnel in London's Highgate, a location which, on average, receives a new film crew about every 4-5 months. Today they're filming the pilot of new BBC supernatural horror The Fades, written by Jack Thorne (This Is England '86, Skins, The Scouting Book For Boys, Cast Offs) and featuring Iain De Caestecker (River City, Coronation Street), Daniel Kaluuya (Skins, Psychoville, Sucker Punch), Claire Rushbrook (Ashes To Ashes), Johnny Harris (This is England '86, Spartacus), Lily Loveless (Skins), Theo Barklem-Biggs (Age Of Heroes, Miranda, EastEnders), Daniela Nardini (This Life, A Street Car Named Desire), Jenn Murray (Day Of The Triffids) and Sophie Wu (Kick-Ass, The Other Man).

...Or we should say "Cheat Sheets" since this year's SXSW Film Festival boasts over 140 films, requiring more than just one page to cover every single one of the narrative and documentary features that will be playing in Austin from March 11th through 19th. While the festival has already provided a very helpful schedule to flip through and Pdf of the screening grid online, consider this your quick hit guide to all the features at the festival - every title leads to its corresponding festival page in addition to links to trailers, official sites, filmmakers' Facebook pages and Twitter accounts so you can follow the action from the festival or from home.
Meanwhile, there will be plenty of action during these next two weeks on IFC.com where, in addition to our live video page, Matt Singer (@mattsinger) and I (@mfrushmore) will be filing reviews and interviews throughout the film festival.

The South by Southwest Film Festival announced its feature film line-up Wednesday, piling heaps of cinematic goodness on an already stellar program that includes Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, Duncan Jones’ Source Code, Ti West’s The Innkeepers, Conan O’Brien’s tour documentary, and the latest Simon Pegg-Nick Frost comedy, Paul, with Seth Rogen.
Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) returns to the festival with her latest film, Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried, after the writer-director spoke on a screenwriting panel in 2009.
Plus a few favorites from the Sundance Film Festival last month, like Tom McCarthy’s Win Win, Morgan Spurlock’s The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, and Max Winkler’s Ceremony.
I’m extremely excited, even if I’m already having flashbacks to intense sleep deprivation. Like the last two years, I’ll be on the ground covering as much of the festival as I can within the packed 9 days of screenings,...
