Today, Nintendo announced via their new Nintendo Today! app that the live-action The Legend of Zelda film will be released in theaters on March 26, 2027.

The Legend of Zelda film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, and Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc.

The movie will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc. and directed by Wes Ball. Ball’s credits include The Maze Runner film trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

The Legend of Zelda movie will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the film to theaters.

The first look at The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 logo arrived via an IMAX investor presentation. The design essentially replicates that of the original film but with a giant "2" beside the title. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc with theaters in 2021, there were still 14 movies released that year that were able to cross the coveted $100 million mark at the U.S. box office. Video game movie adaptations, especially video games with large fanbases, have always been a touchy subject. The ‘physics’ of video games is different; translating all that action and storyline into a film is not the most straightforward task, and when you factor in the expectations of an entire fanbase — the whole ordeal becomes downright daunting. Luckily, video game adaptations have taken off in the past decade, especially on TV in 2023 — and quite successfully! Their box office numbers prove that.

But, as mentioned above, these movies are brutal, considering their more fantastical elements and ‘animation.’ The latest addition anticipated for success in this category is the upcoming Minecraft, scheduled to be released on April 4, 2025.

On Sunday night, TV shows, films and performances were recognized for their outstanding work in 2023 at the Golden Globes Awards.

Hosted by Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy, the awards ceremony announced Oppenheimer as the top film among all others and even earned five other awards for the cast’s performance, including Best Motion Picture for Drama, Best Performance by an Actor with Cillian Murphy and Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture with Robert Downey. Jr.

It was also a historic night for Lily Gladstone, as she became the first indigenous person to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress. Gladstone won the award for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.
