Multiple Tony nominee Moulin Rouge! The Musical will resume Broadway performances on Friday, September 24 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, producers announced today, but the successor to former (and Tony-nominated) lead actress Karen Olivo, who left the role in protest of Broadway’s silence over Scott Rudin, was not revealed.
Back on stage will be Aaron Tveit, Danny Burstein, Sahr Ngaujah, Robyn Hurder, Tam Mutu and Ricky Rojas. Ashley Loren has been cast at the alternate Satine (a position she held at the time of the shutdown). Additional casting, including the role of Satine, will be confirmed at a later date.
Produces also announced that Moulin Rouge! will honor New York’s Frontline Workers at a special dress rehearsal on September 23.

Refresh for updates Acknowledgements, thank yous, laments for shuttered theaters, pleas for racial justice and get-out-the-vote plugs are being offered by this year’s crop of Tony Award nominees.
“It is an uncertain time for the theater world and the world at large,” said Jake Gyllenhaal, a triple nominee, “so if you are able, I encourage you first to Vote and then – if you can – to donate to The Actors Fund.”
See full statements below.
“The closing of Broadway theatres (indeed almost all American theatres) this year has left us without a vital resource to gather together and examine ourselves and our nation and has reminded us just how important live theatre is to our personal and civil lives,” said playwright Matthew López, whose The Inheritance was nominated in 11 categories.

[some might consider this a spoiler for one of the jokes that Adam Sandler and Fred Wolf probably think is one of the more clever ones in their script. tough shit] Oh, Grown Ups, you are too, too predictable. You load yourself up on male-gazing, making a big deal in particular about how disgusting it is, to the male eyes of David Spade and Chris Rock, that Rob Schneider is not only married to Joyce Van Patten, a woman a good 30 years older than him, but that he would actually tongue-fence her in public. (In the film, it’s not the sweet, simple kiss that appears in the trailer.) You make a huge extended joke out of the film’s five juvenile protagonists ogling 20-year-old Madison Riley, blond and skinny and tall and all legs in short shorts -- that is, she’s “hot” -- bent over the engine of a car that Spade’s character has deliberately disabled so that she’ll (hopefully) pose with her ass in their faces all day. The male-gazing -- of either approval or disapproval...

The cast of "Grown Ups" have gathered at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City on Wednesday, June 23 to premiere the film. But instead of putting on formal outfits and making the special screening glamorous, the lead actors appeared in casual clothes and made the special screening like a family gathering event.
Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade, who play best friends in the film, posed together for the photographers. Salma Hayek, who looked fresh in her white dress, appeared solo, joined by other co-stars such as Maria Bello and Colin Quinn.
Later, child actors including Ada-Nicole Sanger, Alexys Nycole Sanchez, Ashley Loren, Cameron Boyce and Christopher Borger, Jake Goldberg, Michael Cavaleri, who are among the cast ensemble of the movie, also supported the event. Director Dennis Dugan additionally did not miss the premiere, while Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Reshma Shetty and Niecy Nash were among the celebrity guests.
