Jillian Bell and Natalie Morales star in I'm Totally Fine, an exploration of grief with a distinctly out-there perspective. Bell stars as Vanessa, a woman grieving the death of her best friend Jennifer (Morales) when she decides to take a weekend getaway. When an alien arrives taking the form of Jennifer, though, her weekend getaway turns into an examination of loss and what it means to remember the person you loved and lost too soon.
Alisha Ketry pens the screenplay in a collaboration with her longtime friend Brandon Dermer, who directs I'm Totally Fine. The film also stars Blake Anderson (Workaholics) and Harvey Guillén of What We Do In The Shadows fame.

In I'm Totally Fine, Jillian Bell's Vanessa gets to spend one last weekend with her best friend Jennifer (sort of). After the tragic death of her business partner and best friend, Vanessa retreats to the desert for a getaway when an alien taking on the form of Jennifer (played by Natalie Morales) arrives to study the human response to grief and loss. Naturally, Vanessa is both shocked and comforted by the presence of this Jennifer lookalike as she learns to move on.
With a screenplay from Alisha Ketry and direction from Brandon Dermer, I'm Totally Fine is a perfect blend of comedy and drama that asks how we move on from immeasurable loss. Harvey Guillén (who is a fan favorite on What We Do In The Shadows) and Blake Anderson also star in the film.

I'm Totally Fine is a movie about grief, told in the most unconventional way possible. Jillian Bell stars as Vanessa, a woman who has retreated to the desert to grieve her best friend and business partner Jennifer after her untimely passing. When she wakes up one morning, though, her best friend is in the house with her—except it's not exactly her best friend. Natalie Morales stars as Jennifer, who is being impersonated by an alien to learn more about humanity.
What follows is a journey of discovery for both the alien impersonating Jennifer and Vanessa herself, as she learns to let go and move on after the death of her best friend. I'm Totally Fine is directed Brandon Dermer from a screenplay by Alisha Ketry. The film also stars Blake Anderson and What We Do In The Shadows star Harvey Guillén.

Some people's grieving processes are more out of this world than others, as seen in I'm Totally Fine. The film revolves around a woman named Vanessa who embarks on a weekend getaway to process the recent death of her best friend and business partner, only for a figure looking just like her friend and claiming to be an alien to throw her whole weekend out of wack.
Jillian Bell and Natalie Morales lead the cast of I'm Totally Fine as Vanessa and her friend Jennifer, as well as the alien appearing as Jennifer, alongside Blake Anderson, Kyle Newacheck, and Harvey Guillén. Combining the best of fish-out-of-water tropes with heartbreaking character studies, the film is both a hilarious and moving tale of loss and growth.

Director Brandon Dermer and writer Alisha Ketry have the right idea with I’m Totally Fine. Unfortunately, the title describes the film perfectly. The cast is solid, and the script has its moments, but the movie is not attention-grabbing. The film features Jillian Bell in a dramatic turn and Parks and Recreation alum Natalie Morales as an alien who looks like a human being. The underlying story is about dealing with grief, but I’m Totally Fine is neither nuanced nor funny enough to comment on that topic meaningfully.
Vanessa (Bell) and Jennifer (Morales) start an organic soda company and sign a big distribution deal that will take them to the next level. They even throw a party to celebrate the occasion. There’s only one problem: Jennifer is dead. Vanessa is subjected to a weekend alone in a rental full of party favors, and constant memories of her lost friend — that is,...

"I'm Totally Fine" is not your average alien invasion movie. In this story, an extraterrestrial (Natalie Morales) swings by Earth to study a human being (Jillian Bell) who recently lost her best friend and business partner. The alien takes the form of her friend, which forces Bell's character to look deeply into her friendship, to both question and cherish it. Director Brandon Dermer's sci-fi movie is a lovely and grounded buddy comedy that gets real with its high concept.
And for all the Papa Roach fans out there, the California rock band plays a pivotal role in the story, too. No, the band doesn't magically show up, but their music actually adds some depth to "I'm Totally Fine." Whether for research or fun, Bell and Morales went to a Papa Roach concert. It was an experience they told us about in a brief but wide-ranging conversation about their latest film.

It’s easy to get existential in the wake of a global pandemic. Why are we here? What do we mean to each other? When you lose someone, what happens to all the love you felt for them?
If you’re Vanessa, the protagonist of the new indie tearjerker “I’m Totally Fine,” you bottle up all your grief until you feel like you’re going to explode. And then suddenly you have to face it, because you get visited by a space alien that looks exactly like your dead best friend.
So goes the witty, bittersweet conceit of this film, the first feature from director Brandon Dermer (“Flatbush Misdemeanors”) and writer Alisha Ketry. Despite its sci-fi bend, the greatest strength of “I’m Totally Fine” is its smallness. It will be available to watch on VOD starting in November. Jillian Bell stars as Vanessa, a young woman who embarks on a solo trip to clear her head after the death of her best friend Jennifer. He and director Brandon Dermer first had fun with the world famous DJ in the web short “Day in the Life of Diplo,” an over-the top take on what Diplo’s life might be like. But then Viceland came to him about a series. Viceland creative director Spike Jonze knows a thing or two about playing with celebrity personas,...

One of the highest compliments you can pay to a TV show is this: It knows exactly what kind of show it is. And that’s very much the case for “What Would Diplo Do?” the new Viceland scripted comedy showrun by and starring James Van Der Beek.
What is a Diplo? You don’t necessarily need to know the answer to enjoy the series, directed by Brandon Dermer and starring Van Der Beek as a world-famous DJ who travels the world with an eclectic crew of characters performing sick concerts and getting into hijinks. But the answer is that Diplo (born Thomas Wesley Pentz) is a real Edm artist who (theoretically) is nothing at all like Van Der Beek’s portrayal. And that fact is part of what makes the series work so well, as Van Der Beek pushes his character portrait beyond simple caricature into the most out-there realms.

James Van Der Beek had already been acting for several years when the movie that would change everything for him was released. “‘Being John Malkovich,’ to me, was the reason to be famous; to get to do something like that,” he told IndieWire. “I remember watching what John Malkovich did in that, I thought, ‘That is the coolest fucking thing I’ve ever seen a famous person do.'”
So when Van Der Beek started working on the new Viceland series “What Would Diplo Do?” with Spike Jonze (who directed the 1999 modern classic), “to be able to pitch him this whole idea and get his take on it was a dream.”

No, it's not a teaser for a feature film, but a teaser for a video for an upcoming track titled Scare Me, directed by Brandon Dermer. The single features Peaches and Timberlee, and is on the Major Lazer album, Free the Universe. Major Lazer is the flying, laser-gunned fictional character created by DJs Diplo and Switch. It's also the name of their group. Watch the trailer below (the cartoon Major Lazer is underneath):...

5) Die Antwoord “Cookie Thumper”
Directed by Ninja
I couldn’t help but include the latest from Die Antwoord because their videos are so insanely weird and awesome. “Cookie Thumper” is no different, it’s not their best but it’s still good.
4) Jj Doom “Bookhead”
Directed by Steve Powers
Doom gets a new mask this week in highly original video for “Bookhead”, the pair also released a cool ‘the making of’ video too.
3) Wavves “That’s On Me”
Directed by Brandon Dermer
Much like the Die Antwoord video, this isn’t Wavves best but again it’s still fairly entertaining. Watch Cold Steel’s Lynn Thompson smash up various objects in “That’s On Me”.
2) The Postal Service “A Tattered Line of String”
Directed by Ab/CD/CD
Complete with the duo’s recently released 10th anniversary reissue of “Give Up”, The Postal Service has released a new video for...
