Right Now, a web series that centered around John Goblikon, the former life insurance sales goblin turned lead singer of metal band Nekrogoblikon, is moving into podcasting.

After four seasons as a web series, the show will now become a podcast, launching on October 1.

The podcast sees Goblikon interview stars such as Andrew Santino, Pete Holmes and Adam Pally in character. The web series featured the likes of Workaholics’ Blake Anderson, Comedy Bang Bang’s Reggie Watts, Bad Friends’ Bobby Lee, If You Didn’t Want Me Then’s Beth Stelling and musicians such as Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman and Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland.

Exclusive: James Van Der Beek (Pose) has signed on to star in Sidelined: The Qb and Me (fka The Qb Bad Boy and Me), the upcoming Tubi Original based on Wattpad’s breakout YA novel The Qb Bad Boy and Me by Tay Marley, which has to date amassed over 31M reads.

Van Der Beek joins a cast led by Siena Agudong, which also includes Noah Beck and Drew Ray Tanner. Other new additions to the ensemble of the film, on which we were first to report, include Deborah Cox (Station Eleven) and Jake Foy (Allegiance).

Sidelined tells the story of Dallas (Agudong), a burdened but headstrong dancer, who is determined to get into the best dance school in the country — her late mother’s alma mater. Exclusive: Jillian Bell (Brittany Runs a Marathon) has been tapped to star alongside Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross in the holiday comedy Candy Cane Lane, which Reginald Hudlin is directing for Amazon.

The plot of the film shooting in Los Angeles, as part of the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program, is under wraps. But its writer, Kelly Younger, based the script on his own childhood holiday experiences. Producers include Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster for Eddie Murphy Productions, and Brian Grazer and Karen Lunder for Imagine Entertainment.

Candy Cane Lane is the first film being made under a three-picture and first-look film deal between Murphy and Amazon Studios and will ultimately stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

In I'm Totally Fine, Jillian Bell's Vanessa gets to spend one last weekend with her best friend Jennifer (sort of). After the tragic death of her business partner and best friend, Vanessa retreats to the desert for a getaway when an alien taking on the form of Jennifer (played by Natalie Morales) arrives to study the human response to grief and loss. Naturally, Vanessa is both shocked and comforted by the presence of this Jennifer lookalike as she learns to move on.

With a screenplay from Alisha Ketry and direction from Brandon Dermer, I'm Totally Fine is a perfect blend of comedy and drama that asks how we move on from immeasurable loss. Harvey Guillén (who is a fan favorite on What We Do In The Shadows) and Blake Anderson also star in the film.

Director Brandon Dermer and writer Alisha Ketry have the right idea with I’m Totally Fine. Unfortunately, the title describes the film perfectly. The cast is solid, and the script has its moments, but the movie is not attention-grabbing. The film features Jillian Bell in a dramatic turn and Parks and Recreation alum Natalie Morales as an alien who looks like a human being. The underlying story is about dealing with grief, but I’m Totally Fine is neither nuanced nor funny enough to comment on that topic meaningfully.

Vanessa (Bell) and Jennifer (Morales) start an organic soda company and sign a big distribution deal that will take them to the next level. They even throw a party to celebrate the occasion. There’s only one problem: Jennifer is dead. Vanessa is subjected to a weekend alone in a rental full of party favors, and constant memories of her lost friend — that is,...

"I'm Totally Fine" is not your average alien invasion movie. In this story, an extraterrestrial (Natalie Morales) swings by Earth to study a human being (Jillian Bell) who recently lost her best friend and business partner. The alien takes the form of her friend, which forces Bell's character to look deeply into her friendship, to both question and cherish it. Director Brandon Dermer's sci-fi movie is a lovely and grounded buddy comedy that gets real with its high concept. 

And for all the Papa Roach fans out there, the California rock band plays a pivotal role in the story, too. No, the band doesn't magically show up, but their music actually adds some depth to "I'm Totally Fine." Whether for research or fun, Bell and Morales went to a Papa Roach concert. It was an experience they told us about in a brief but wide-ranging conversation about their latest film.

It will be available to watch on VOD starting in November. Jillian Bell stars as Vanessa, a young woman who embarks on a solo trip to clear her head after the death of her best friend Jennifer. Her self-care vacation takes a detour when she finds the recently departed Jennifer standing in her kitchen, claiming to be an extraterrestrial. Together they spend the next 48 hours partying and reminiscing on better days in a comedy that's out of this world. Jukin Media is set to launch its first adult-leaning animated series in partnership with musician and influencer Dillon Francis.

The short-form comedy series, titled Couch Kings, will air on Jukin’s FailArmy property, with Francis serving as executive producer. The series will see Dillon and his childhood best friend, Eric Hamilton, chilling on their couch and watching FailArmy vidoes. This, in turn, will spur absurd quests for adventure alongside comedian guest stars like Adam Ray, Amanda McCants, Maddy Whitby, and Trevor Wallace.

The concept for Couch Kings was born of Francis’ music video for "Fix Me" (see below) which was directed by Brandon Dermer (who serves as an EP on the series) in collaboration with Jukin Media and animation studio Bleach Media. A total of four episodes will air across FailArmy’s social accounts, while a 30-minute special airing on its streaming TV channel.

I’m Totally Fine follows a Vanessa (Bell), a woman in mourning who takes a solo trip to clear her head after the death of her friend (Morales). However, Vanessa’s self-care vacation plans change when she’s met with a situation out of this world.

“We were making a movie that mirrored what we had all collectively been experiencing over 2020, without being literal. The metaphor of it is 2020 and being powerless – all of a sudden everything got taken away from us as we knew it, everything changed,” Newacheck told Deadline.

One of the highest compliments you can pay to a TV show is this: It knows exactly what kind of show it is. And that’s very much the case for “What Would Diplo Do?” the new Viceland scripted comedy showrun by and starring James Van Der Beek.

What is a Diplo? You don’t necessarily need to know the answer to enjoy the series, directed by Brandon Dermer and starring Van Der Beek as a world-famous DJ who travels the world with an eclectic crew of characters performing sick concerts and getting into hijinks. But the answer is that Diplo (born Thomas Wesley Pentz) is a real Edm artist who (theoretically) is nothing at all like Van Der Beek’s portrayal. And that fact is part of what makes the series work so well, as Van Der Beek pushes his character portrait beyond simple caricature into the most out-there realms.

James Van Der Beek had already been acting for several years when the movie that would change everything for him was released. “‘Being John Malkovich,’ to me, was the reason to be famous; to get to do something like that,” he told IndieWire. “I remember watching what John Malkovich did in that, I thought, ‘That is the coolest fucking thing I’ve ever seen a famous person do.'”

So when Van Der Beek started working on the new Viceland series “What Would Diplo Do?” with Spike Jonze (who directed the 1999 modern classic), “to be able to pitch him this whole idea and get his take on it was a dream.”
