With Tom Holland’s latest series now available on FEARnet and VOD entitled “Twisted Tales” and his group of short stories exclusively for the Kindle, “Untold Tales”, Holland is entering into a new creative stage in his long and varied career as an actor, writer, director, and producer.
The legendary creator of Fright Night, Child’s Play, Cloak & Dagger, and Psycho II (just to name a few), Holland recently reached out to Dread Central to discuss his thoughts on the new incarnation of Fright Night 2: New Blood (review) from director Eduardo Rodriguez, the new FEARnet series, and his upcoming projects including his desire to remake his 1982 screenplay The Beast Within. There’s also a great update about adapting Stephen King’s “The Ten O’Clock People” showing how both writers are working together to make the story fit more into the modern world.

Ok, wait, so I’m confused. For all intents and purposes, Fright Night 2: New Blood is billing itself as a sequel to 2011′s Fright Night remake starring Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell, yet it has absolutely nothing to do with the previous project. None of the cast returned, the suburban story isn’t referenced in the least – in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Fright Night 2: New Blood is a spiritual remake all on its own, starting anew with familiar characters thanks to screenwriter Matt Venne. All the characters are named exactly the same, “Evil” Ed yet again starts in human form, Amy is back as Charley’s love interest – the only true change is that Gerri is now a female vampire played by the sultry Jamie Murray.
Unfortunately, Edurdo Rodriguez’s “sequel” is the worst kind of sequel – because it isn’t a sequel at all. Fright Night 2: New Blood...

Originally lensed in 1985, Fright Night, from writer/director Tom Holland (Child’s Play), went on to become a favourite amongst my generation and to this day is still held in very warm regard. The sequel, which followed in 1987, wasn’t as successful as the original, yet remains a much sought after title on DVD and Blu-ray. The original film was remade in 2011 starring Colin Farrell in the vampire role and Fright Night 2: New Blood is a sequel to that remake. With me so far?
Well now it gets a little confusing. This iteration of Fright Night 2 is a remake of the Original Fright Night, not the sequel or the remake, which also throws the legend of Countess Elizabeth Bathory into the mix. Still with me?

Jaime Murray Talks Fright Night 2: New Blood, available now on Blu-ray and DVD
The sequel Fright Night 2: New Blood is making its debut on Blu-ray and DVD today, October 1, just in time for Halloween. Fans of 2009's Fright Night remake might be disappointed to see that none of the original cast is back, making this essentially the fourth version of this horror tale about a deadly vampire, the neighbor who knows his secret, and the TV horror host who knows how to end his reign of terror. The good news is that Fright Night 2: New Blood is a very entertaining and worthy entry in this long-standing franchise, and that it stands almost on par with the 1985 original.
Jerry Dandridge the Vampire gets a sex change for this quasi-reboot, a hopeful home video franchise restarter, with the very beautiful and equally awesome Jaime Murray stepping in to play Gerri.

As usual, let's begin with a brief history lesson.
Fright Night (1985) arrives from Columbia Pictures and writer/director Tom Holland (he'd later go on to direct Child's Play, The Temp, and Thinner), becomes a modest box office hit, and goes on to become a nostalgic favorite among horror fans of a certain age. (Like me.) Essentially a teenager vs. vampire rendition of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, the original Fright Night was about a kid who discovers that his new neighbor is a murderous bloodsucker -- but of course nobody believes him. Fright Night Part 2 (1987) reunited the kid (William Ragsdale) and the reluctant hero (Roddy McDowall) from the first movie, but the plot (about a female vampire with a serious grudge) wasn't nearly as novel. Worth a look for fans of the original Fright Night, but certainly nothing too memorable. Fright Night (2011) brought a very amusing Colin Farrell to...

The “Fright Night” franchise is not dead yet. Not at all.
The somewhat sequel “Fright Night 2: New Blood” is released today on DVD and Blu-ray. In this movie, actress Jamie Murray plays the vampire seductress Gerri who preys over Charley.
This sequel is kind of a remake of the original movie re-introducing the main fan favorite characters of Charley Brewster, Peter Vincent, Ed Bates and Amy Peterson. And the primary adversary is a female vampire instead of suspicious vampire neighbor Jerry.
The horror comedy film introduces a new cast to star alongside Murray with Will Payne, Sean Power, Sacha Parkinson and Chris Waller.
Here’s the synopsis: By day Gerri Dandridge is a sexy professor, but by night she transforms into a real-life vampire with an unquenchable thirst for human blood. So when a group of high school students travel abroad to study in Romania, they find themselves...

"Welcome to Fright Night for real!"
I thought director Craig Gillespie‘s remake of Fright Night was fantastic. I really enjoyed it, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Fox decided to make a sequel to it, but this one is going straight to Blu-ray and DVD, and it looks like the level of quality that you would see for those kinds of films. In fact, the movie just looks like a remake of Gillespie's 2011 film, only not as good. This time around they decided to sex it up with a female villain vampire that bathes in blood. Here's the synopsis for Fright Night 2: New Blood:

More visuals have been revealed for Eduardo Rodriguez's Fright Night 2: New Blood. The character Gerri (Jaime Murray), a vampire and teacher, is shown in this unrated clip. Gerri is the antagonist and she would rather drink from, rather than teach her students. Director Rodriguez might be best known for his action thriller El Gringo (2012), starring Scott Adkins. As well, actors Will Payne (Elfie Hopkins) and Chris Waller are featured in this vampiric film. Payne and Waller play two students who discover Gerri's seductive and murderous secrets. Fright Night 2: New Blood will move straight-to-video October 1st, through 20th Century Fox. Fans of vampires and indie films can have a look at the unrated trailer for the feature below. The original Fright Night was slick, the reboot was solid, and now we have images from Fright Night 2, a completely unnecessary film made for nothing more than milking the franchise for what its worth on the home entertainment front. We even have a "Gerri Dandridge" female lead vampire played by Jaime Murray, whereas in the first film, and reboot, we had a Jerry Dandridge, played by Chris Sarandon, and then in the remake by Colin Farrell. You'd think there'd be more original writing at play here. Now, we have some folks, who I admit, I've never heard of before in Will Payne playing Charlie Brewster as opposed to Anton Yelchin, and Sean Power as Peter Vincent.

It's a little known fact that the original 1985 Fright Night had a sequel simply called Fright Night Part II, starring original cast members William Ragsdale as Charlie and Roddy McDowall as the great vampire hunter Peter Vincent. It may also become a little known fact that there is a sequel to 2011's Fright Night, which gets the title Fright Night 2: New Blood and a direct-to-video release date of October 1. Both sequels have a similar storyline. Vampire Gerry Dandgridge's sister is out for revenge. Only this sequel gets a whole new cast, with Will Payne the third person to star as Charlie Brewster. Sacha Parkinson is our third Amy, and Chris Waller is Evil Ed, though we're pretty sure he's died in every single movie to date. Peter Vincent is back, too, this time played by Sean Power. But, instead of sister Regine Dandridge, we get Gerry's other sister...

The final DVD cover art for Eduardo Rodriguez's 'Fright Night 2' has been selected! Following a nationwide vote from 3 proposed pieces of art the chosen boxart has been confirmed as the more sensual choice of the trio. Actors Will Payne ('Elfie Hopkins'), Sean Power, Chris Waller and Sacha Parkinson all take on roles previously filled by more A-list names including Colin Farrell ('Horrible Bosses'). Following the trio of posters that are being voted on for use as the official DVD artwork for the upcoming home release of 'Fright Night 2' a brand new trailer has come bombing along adding further to the confusing premise which sounds more like another remake/reimagining than a direct sequel to Craig Gillespie's 2011 do-over. It lands on DVD and Blu-ray stateside on 1 October, will be wrapped in by what looks to be rather unimaginative artwork, and star a whole host of new actors taking on the roles of previous characters we've come to know and watch develop. The gorgeous star of hit BBC series 'Hustle' Jaime Murray -below ('Spartacus: Gods of the Arena') takes the lead vamp role in the remake/sequel(!?) and she is joined by Will Payne ('Elfie Hopkins'), Sean Power, Chris Waller and Sacha Parkinson....

Although it doesn't appear to be a follow-up to either the 1985 original Fright Night or the 2011 remake, the first trailer has arrived for the "sequel" Fright Night 2: New Blood. Will Payne stars as Charlie, who is studying in abroad in Romania with his friend "Evil" Ed (Chris Waller) and ex-girlfriend Amy (Sacha Parkinson). When Charlie realizes that his attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a vampire, he turns to TV vampire hunter Peter Vincent (Sean Power) to take down Gerri before it's too late. In addition, we also have the poster for this horror sequel/second remake, which debuts on Blu-ray and DVD on October 1 from Fox Home Entertainment.
When high school student Charlie attends a study abroad program with his horror obsessed friend "Evil" Ed and ex-girlfriend Amy in Romania, he soon discovers their young attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a real life vampire. Too bad no one believes him.

Today's MPAA ratings bulletin is a little busier than some of those we've seen recently and even includes an R-rating for Alexander Payne's Nebraska which Paramount will be appealing. If I remember correctly there are a couple uses of the word "f**k" but nothing else. If I had a guess the R-rating for some language will soon be changed to a PG-13 rating for some strong language. We wait patiently... I posted a trailer only an hour or so ago for the Vince Vaughn dramedy Delivery Man and now it has a PG-13 rating, Ryan Coogler's excellent Fruitvale Station starring Michael B. Jordan received a not-so-surprising R-rating and the Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke thriller Getaway received a PG-13. It's been a long wait, but Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons is finally shooting in Wales.
The independent horror feature film stars Jaime Winstone as a grungy wannabe detective who attempts to uncover the human flesh-eating truth about the close-knit Gammon family.
The film is directed and co-written by Ryan Andrews who told Shock Till You Drop
"After meeting Jaime I knew she could become the main focus [for] something really special and unique in British horror fantasy terms. Elfie is a finely tuned representation of my own childhood memories growing up in rural Wales. I often used to imagine myself as a vampire hunter let loose on a community of surreal country folk. Riyad and I have taken those already magnified experiences and transformed them further into a combination of British twee and American grunge – a weird mash-up of two worlds with a heightened reality comic-strip feel informed by everything...

Jaime Winstone (Donkey Punch) will star alongside her father, Ray Winstone (Beowulf) in Ryan Andrews‘ cannibal thriller Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons.
Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons might sound like a new animated adventure for under the 12′s. This is just so wrong. Hot chick, cannibals, blood, fighting, violence, and flipping Beowulf himself, do you really need more to get you excited. Jamie will play the title role, a quirky wannabe detective investigating the Gammons, a weird new family who make move into the village. Ray will play the local butcher. This is the first time both actors have worked together.
Speaking about the role Jaime has said:
Elfie Hopkins has been an alter ego of mine for a while now and I can’t wait for the world to meet her. She’ll kick ass! For me, Elfie’s a dream role to play and I feel there is...

'Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons' might sound like a new animated adventure for under the under 12's but in fact it's a new British cannibal horror which is set to star everyone's favourite Brit hardman Ray Winstone. And now his very own daughter, actress Jaime Winstone ('Donkey Punch', 'Dead Set'), is set to play the title role. Jaime (below) will play Elfie, a quirky 'wanna-be' detective whose appetite for a real-life case is matched by the appetites of a new family (The Gammons) who move into the village. Ray Winstone plays the local butcher and meat is definitely on the menu...The story, a twisted tale of cannibalism set in a British rural hunting village, is set to begin shooting from 8 March in and around the Cardiff, Wales area. Kimberley Nixon, Aneurin Barnard, Gwyneth Keyworth, Amanda Drew and Will Payne are all reportedly co-starring.
