The Fatal Attraction series on Paramount+ offers a modernized version of the 1980s film, shedding some of its misogynistic aspects and delivering erotic thrills while adding something new to the story. The series featured a talented and recognizable cast, including Lizzy Caplan who gave a commanding performance as Alex, bringing a different energy to the role compared to Glenn Close's portrayal. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, with a 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the show still has strong nostalgia and offers a more realistic take on the erotic thriller genre, making it worth a watch.

Paramount+ has pulled the plug on Fatal Attraction, developed by Alexandra Cunningham and Kevin J. Hynes based on the classic movie of the same name, Deadline reports. In the series led by Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan, a contemporary version of the classic was presented that failed to make an impression on the audience. However, the decision comes as the streamer continues to ax content for tax purposes.

Few women in cinematic history have been vilified so much as Alex Forrest. Played by Glenn Close, this wild and seductive career woman terrorizes her married lover, Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas), after a weekend fling in the mother of all erotic thrillers "Fatal Attraction." The original Alex is the epitome of a femme fatale and embodies the saying, "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." Released in 1987, Adrian Lyne's film has been reevaluated through the lens of modern sexual politics, with a much more sympathetic reappraisal of Alex's character and a refusal to see Dan as the story's hapless victim. A reboot from creators Kevin J. Hynes and Alexandra Cunningham attempts to reckon with this complicated legacy in an eight-part series starring Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson as the toxic lovers.

Decades after its release and six Oscar nominations later, the enduring image associated with 1987's hit thriller "Fatal Attraction" is, for many, a boiled bunny. Enraged by her married partner's decision to call off their brief affair, Alex Forrest (played by Glenn Close) attempts to send a message to Dan Gallagher by cooking his child's pet bunny. The cinematic moment spawned a new term for a jilted paramour but didn't deeply examine why someone would take such drastic actions.
Now, with the embracing of the antihero onscreen and the real-life push for mental health conversations to be shrouded in less stigma, entertainment media is painting a fuller picture of why people make the decisions they do - and that's obvious in Paramount+'s "Fatal Attraction" streaming reboot.

Paramount Plus’ new series Fatal Attraction offers a reimagining of the iconic film. Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson) and Alex Forrest (Lizzy Caplan) still have a short-lived affair, but thanks to this being a series and not a movie, there is a lot more to explore. Because of that, new characters are added in that are extremely important to the story.
Toby Huss plays Mike Gerard, Reno Wilson plays Earl Broker, and Brian Goodman plays Arthur Tomlinson in Fatal Attraction. All three men know Dan quite well, with Mike and Earl having worked closely with him in his line of work. Arthur is a friend of the family, as his wife and Dan’s wife, Beth (Amanda Peet), are very close.

Even if you have never seen Fatal Attraction, odds are you have heard of it and can probably even recite most of the plot points. It is no small feat to take such an iconic film and turn it into a series, while also changing the story up and hoping that audiences will appreciate it.

Fatal Attraction is probably one of the most infamous movies, even though it came out in 1987. Even if you have not seen the film, you likely know how it plays out. The story has now been adapted into a series for Paramount Plus. It tells a similar but expanded tale this time.
Amanda Peet stars as Beth Gallagher in Fatal Attraction, with Alyssa Jirrels playing the grown-up version of her daughter, Ellen. When her husband has a short-lived affair with a woman he works with, things end in death. The series follows what happens in the present, as well as the past.

The famed IP is getting the series treatment, which allows for a much deeper dive into the story and its characters.
Like you, we have IP refreshing and reboot fatigue, but we've seen Fatal Attraction Season 1 in its entirety and believe that further exploration has merits.
Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson) is an attorney on the cusp of a significant promotion. He's happily married to Beth (Amanda Peet), and the couple has a lovely daughter, Ellen.
But as bright as Dan's life seems on the outside, he's riddled with self-doubt when an opportunity slips through his fingers, and he begins looking outside of his family for validation.
Dan finds that validation in Alex Forrest (Lizzy Caplan), a coworker with an understanding of his professional pressures because she faces the same.

The reshot ending of Adrian Lyne’s 1987 Fatal Attraction is one of the most successful blunders in Hollywood history.
Sure, turning Glenn Close’s scorned Alex Forrest into a nearly unkillable slasher villain undermined anything that was thematically interesting about the character and the movie. But it also produced a rousing climax that left bloodthirsty audiences cheering and helped make Fatal Attraction a blockbuster.
The conclusion so violated the setup of James Dearden’s script that it isn’t a surprise we’re being treated to a long-form re-conception of Fatal Attraction; it’s a surprise that it took so long.
“There’s only one way for something to end,” Alex (Lizzy Caplan) asserts in the eighth and final episode of Paramount+’s Fatal Attraction. “There’s only one decision to make. How are you going to get to that ending?”

When the Paramount+ series adaptation of Adrian Lyne’s blockbuster 1987 psychosexual thriller “Fatal Attraction” arrives later this year, the series will aim to tell Alex Forrest’s side of the story. Glenn Close played the “boiling bunnies” baddie in the iconic original, an editor of a publishing house who takes up an ill-fated affair with a successful Manhattan lawyer, played by Michael Douglas.
Anyone who’s seen the original or knows the cues of the tragic opera “Madame Butterfly” knows that it doesn’t end well for Alex.

Update, 8:55 am: Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Fatal Attraction, its series reimagining of the classic 1980s psychosexual thriller film.
In the trailer, Lizzy Caplan’s Alex Forrest warns Joshua Jackson’s Dan Gallagher: “I am not going to be ignored.” The series is set in the present day, following Jackson’s Gallagher after he served 15 years for Alex’s murder. Gallagher “is paroled with the goals of reconnecting with his family and proving his innocence. In 2008, Dan first meets Alex and his world begins to unravel after their brief affair threatens to destroy the life he’s built with his wife, Beth.” Check out the trailer above.

The new take on “Fatal Attraction” will not be ignored any longer. On Monday, Paramount+ released the official trailer for the new drama series, which takes the familiar intellectual property from the 1980s and refashions the material for a modern age.
Starring Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan, the new take on “Fatal Attraction” begins with an interesting twist: Dan Gallagher (Jackson) in prison for the murder of Alex Forrest (Caplan) 15 years earlier. As the trailer shows, the drama bounces between time periods – with Dan out of jail in the present day and hoping to prove his innocence in Alex’s death, and then flashbacks to their clandestine affair in 2008. (The idea that Dan would face criminal charges for killing Alex has seeds in the ending of the original 1987 movie when Alex dies by suicide and then frames Dan for her death.)

The official trailer for Paramount+’s “deep-dive reimagining” of “Fatal Attraction” starring Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson is finally here.
Based on the 1987 film of the same name, the trailer (which you can watch above) picks up after Dan Gallagher (Jackson) is convicted of second degree murder and he stands before court, where he makes a bold statement. “Every day that I have been in here, I have thought about Alexandra Forrest, because I need to understand what I did, how she died and why,” Dan says.
Dan is then transported back to his whirlwind affair with Alex (Caplan), as the supposed family man juggles his suburban life with his wife, Beth (Amanda Peet), and his daughter. Dan and Alex’s relationship quickly escalates into a new realm of scandal when she shows up at his house and threatens to expose his secret.

Another day, another Adrian Lyne revival — except this time, Paramount+ is doing a reboot of one of his past works rather than when Hulu let him run wild with a fun new experiment. "Fatal Attraction" is returning as a series, and the first trailer has just premiered, so get excited.
In the minute-long sneak peek, we meet Josh Jackson's Dan Gallagher and Lizzy Caplan's Alex Forrest, two people who seem to be drawn to one another. Dan is more guarded than Alex, who appears to be an expert in pressing (or pulling) buttons — but as things ramp up, they also seem to spiral out of control.
The streamer is calling the new take "a deep-dive reimagining of the classic psychosexual thriller and '80s cultural touchstone." The original film followed a man and woman who embark on a weekend affair, but the woman just won't let it go and her obsession mounts.

Paramount+ reveals the first trailer for Fatal Attraction the reboot show. 1987 saw the release of the original Fatal Attraction, an erotic thriller steeped in slasher movie vibes about a womanizing businessman becoming involved with a dangerously obsessive lover. Now Paramount+ is set to premiere a reboot of the Michael Douglas/Glenn Close original, putting a modern-day spin on the premise of a toxic man suffering the consequences of his callous actions.
It remains to be seen whether the very ‘80s Fatal Attraction can be reworked in a way that goes over with today’s audiences, but Paramount+ has offered up a first taste of the show’s efforts, dropping a new trailer previewing this miniseries reboot of an iconic film.
Unsurprisingly, the trailer focuses mostly on the two main characters, played by Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan, while giving away only the barest details of the plot (which of course...

Adrien Lyne's classic erotic thriller, "Fatal Attraction," is the latest gem from cinema's glory days to be dusted off and receive the TV remake treatment. As a frequently sad, not at all tragic, and not as lonely as I wish I was but under pressure from a really hard job, I wanted us to go in a slightly different direction,” said Cunningham.

The original film, based on screenwriter James Dearden’s 1980 short film “Devotion,” stars Glen Close as Alex Forrest, a woman who has a brief affair with lawyer Dan Gallagher (played by Michael Douglas). Suffering from some sort of mental illness, Alex refuses to accept Dan’s attempts to end their weekend-long relationship and stalks him, becoming a threat to him and his family.
The film generated some controversy at the time of its release, primarily for its sexual content as well as accusations of sexism in its portrayal of Alex, but it was a financial success, grossing 320 million at the box office, and receiving six nominations at the Oscars,...

The series adaptation of Adrian Lyne’s Fatal Attraction is on the way from Paramount+, and Entertainment Weekly has just shared the very first image from the series this week.
Lizzy Caplan (“Castle Rock”) is starring as female lead Alex Forrest, with Joshua Jackson (“Dr. Death”) playing Dan Gallagher. Check out your first look at the duo below.
“In the film, Alex is the villain of the story, and Dan is the hero and there is no gray area,” Caplan tells Entertainment Weekly in their preview piece. “Now, audiences have changed so much, we are no longer primed to believe in this villainous woman story. She’s clearly mentally ill and that’s not something that is really touched upon at all in the movie.”
Amanda Peet (“The Chair”) and Dee Wallace (Cujo, The Lords of Salem) will also star.

Fatal Attraction star Lizzy Caplan details how the upcoming Paramount+ reboot will be different than the iconic thriller movie. Debuting in 1987 with Michael Douglas and Glenn Close as the leads, Fatal Attraction focused on a weekend affair that turns into a dangerous one-sided obsession. The film, directed by Adrian Lyne, was a big hit at the box office and was ultimately nominated for six Oscars. But it's also been criticized for its one-note depiction of Close's character as an unhinged woman bent on revenge.
Caplan also previewed the upcoming Fatal Attraction reboot as part of a profile for Grazia magazine to promote her role in Fleishman Is in Trouble. Caplan praised the original but spoke frankly about the alternate ending, which Close preferred. Close's character, Alex, kills herself in that alternate version. But because it didn't test well with audiences, Alex ends up as just a villain that gets killed off.
