Chloe Domont may have shown a relationship hellscape with Sundance hit erotic thriller “Fair Play,” but the writer/director is venturing further into Dante’s nine circles with her new feature, “A Place In Hell.”

Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones will lead the legal thriller, which will be written and directed by Domont. “Fair Play” was Domont’s feature directorial debut. She previously wrote on series such as “Ballers.” IndieWire has reached out to confirm this news, but received no response as of publication.

“A Place In Hell” is billed as a “thriller following two women at a high profile criminal law firm.” MRC and T-Street are producing the feature. Star Thrower, Ram Bergman, and Rian Johnson’s banner T-Street at MRC formerly funded “Fair Play.”

Rhys Ifans (House of the Dragon) is set to lead the cast of Apple TV+’s upcoming series Star City, a spinoff from the streamer’s space drama For All Mankind. According to sources, Ifans is not leaving House of the Dragon, where he plays Ser Otto Hightower. It’s not clear, however, how his Star City casting will affect his future on Hotd in the long run.

Netflix is buying the Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones drama Train Dreams out of the Sundance Film Festival. Sources tell us that the deal is in the high-teen millions. The pic made its debut in the Premieres section of the fest.

Train Dreams is based on the 2011 Denis Johnson novella and directed by Oscar nominee Clint Bentley, who co-adapted the script with Greg Kwedar. It follows Robert Grainer, an average man living in extraordinary times who works as a day laborer in the American West at the beginning of the 20th century. Battered by the death of his family, he struggles to adjust to this new environment.

There are many ways to make a movie. We’ve seen the large studio approach, with massive sets and large groups of paid extras and we’ve seen the indie approach which includes much less resources and limited scale. There are all sorts of approaches in between, and its exciting to see what creativity certain limitations can spur on. Neil Burger opted to shoot his film Inheritance with a very guerilla filmmaking mindset, utilizing iPhones as his cameras and shooting in the midst of everyday civilians. That meant stealing shots (including star Phoebe Dynevor stealing for real on camera) and decidedly personal style. The camera is practically another character. It’s a gimmick that doesn’t entire work for the duration of the film (check out my review Here) but its certainly commendable. Tuesday update: Lionsgate’s Flight Risk soared to the top spot at the box office — earning $11.5 million in its opening weekend. The action-thriller starring Mark Wahlberg held off Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, which finished in second place with $8.5 million, bringing the film’s total gross to $220 million domestically. Rounding out the top five were Sony’s One of Them Days with $8 million, Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with $5.3 million, and Disney’s Moana 2 with $4.1 million. Universal’s Wolf Man took this biggest hit, dropping 70 percent from the week prior, finishing in seventh place with $3.2 million.

When reviewing a film, reading the director’s statement can feel an awful lot like checking their will. What an artist intended with the choices they left behind won’t always matter to the audience, but Neil Burger’s “Inheritance” is worth researching before you buy the ticket. Knowing how this strangely pedestrian thriller got produced not only makes it far more enjoyable to watch but highlights a new storytelling approach that might work better on the second try.

Captured on location in Egypt, India, South Korea, and New York City, IFC Films’ latest experiment in suspense — a father-daughter espionage adventure starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rhys Ifans — uses a naturalistic shooting style that spurred some great behind-the-scenes stories.
