The second season just came to an end this weekend, and it has already been renewed for a third season.

Producer and director Ben Stiller addressed the time gap between the first two seasons and if it will be another three years before the next season airs.

Coming just hours after the show’s Season 2 finale shook fans, the “Severance” PaleyFest panel rocked the Dolby Theatre by unleashing a live marching band number — recreating a memorable moment from the episode.

Tramell Tillman, who plays Mr. Milchick, led a marching band through the Dolby Theatre. Prior to the sudden performance, Tillman had been the only one out of the cast and creative team to not show up on stage when his name was called. Fresh off the season two finale, Severance has been renewed for a third installment at Apple TV+. The dystopian series stars Adam Scott as Mark Scout, a widower who undergoes a procedure to be “severed” that renders him unable to access his memories at work and vice versa. He works at the mysterious Lumon Industries with Irving (John Turturro), Dylan (Zach Cherry) and Helly (Britt Lower), and season two picks up after the team led what is referred to as the “Microdat Uprising.”

As Severance fans continue debating the innies and outies of Friday's watercooler Season 2 finale, the Apple TV+ show is in a strong position to grow like a black diamond watermelon at the 2025 Emmys.

Three years ago, for Season 1, the sci-fi show about office drones who separate their workplace memories from their normal memories received 14 Emmy nominations and won two (Best Main Title Design and Best Music Composition). Succession and Ozark (which have been put out to pasture) and Squid Game (which recently had a muted Season 2 return) bested Severance in all the above-the-line categories.

Severance's 2022 bids were for drama series, lead actor Adam Scott, supporting actress Patricia Arquette, supporting actor John Turturro, supporting actor Christopher Walken, director Ben Stiller, writer Dan Erickson, casting, main title theme music, main title design, music composition, picture editing x2, and production design.

Assuming it nabs those same nominations again, the show would make do with 13 citations.

For seven seasons, Gwendoline Christie played the stout-hearted Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones, a woman who could go toe-to-toe with the male knights in a culture dominated by men. Brienne was shunned for her interests, but she did it better than pretty much anybody else and quickly won the hearts of fans. She also participated in some brutal fight scenes, most notably a season 4 clash with Sandor "the Hound" Clegane.

I couldn't help but think of that fight scene during the season 2 finale of Severance, where Christie's character Lorne — the woman in charge of the Mammalians Nurturable department, which tends a flock of goats deep in the bowels of the Lumon building — took on Mr. Drummond, the brutal Lumon enforcer who has been making Lorne sacrifice those goats for we know not how long. “Severance” served up it’s expectedly tense Season 2 finale, and in typical form offered up a number of questions to mull over until Season 3.

Mark (Adam Scott) and Helly (Britt Lower) are last seen fleeing through the emergency light-soaked halls of the severed floor running Kier knows where. Apple has renewed the series, which comes from creator, writer and exec producer Dan Erickson and director and exec producer Ben Stiller, as its season two finale, ‘Cold Harbor’, launches on the service today (March 21).

Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the news in the past few minutes through a social media exchange with Stiller, writing, “Season 3 of Severance available on request.”

The truth about Cold Harbor

“Cold Harbor” picks up where “The After Hours” left off, with Mark S., Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette), and Devon Scout-Hale (Jenn Tullock) meeting in a severed room at the birthing center to discuss getting Gemma (Dichen Lachman) out of Lumon before the company kills her because her use to them is finished. The plan is for Mark S. to finish the Cold Harbor project file and rush down to the Testing Floor where Gemma is being held, where Mark will save her.

Premiered this past February, the second season of Apple TV's flagship series continues following Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), and the other members of Lumon's Macrodata Refinement department after the overtime contingency. "Severance" season 2 episode 8, "Sweet Vitriol," continues the previous episode's theme of focusing on a single character's story. This time, the eyes are on Patricia Arquette's Harmony Cobel, who takes a trip to the town she left behind to acquire some important papers that reveal that she, not Jame Eagan (Michael Siberry), was the inventor of the severance procedures. It's a nice little revelation but ultimately doesn't add a lot to Cobel, whose narrative continues to be adrift after Lumon cut her loose.

This is a problem especially since the underwhelming episode follows the excellent "Lost-"influenced "Severance" season 2 episode 7, "Chikhai Bardo." That episode focuses on Gemma (Dichen Lachman) and elevates her from a damsel in distress figure to a very real, very complex person whose particular predicament is integral to the entire show's central secrets. The second season of Apple TV+’s Severance is coming to an end, but fear not, questions will be asked.

Quinta Brunson is moderating a Q&a about the second season of the drama series. The event, which includes an all-guild screening of the Adam Scott-fronted show, will take place at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles on March 22.

Brunson is not directly involved in Severance but is close with Scott, having guest-starred on the revival of Starz’s Party Down that aired in 2023.

Panelists for the event include Ben Stiller, who directs and exec produces the show; creator Dan Erickson; and stars Scott, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Patricia Arquette, Sarah Bock, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Gwendoline Christie.

Since premiering in January 2025, Severance season 2 has been one of the biggest and most talked about shows on television this year. Per Deadline, the second season of Severance has consistently been bringing in tons of viewers, having ranked fourth on Nielsen's Top 10 Originals chart for the week of Jan. 13, the week of the season two premiere. The series has reported 589 million minutes watched for both seasons, with 28% of those minutes coming from the season two premiere. Chris Perfetti and Joy Sunday (Wednesday) have joined HBO‘s seven-episode limited series Dtf St. Louis from writer, director, showrunner and executive producer Steve Conrad.

They join the previously announced cast that includes Jason Bateman, David Harbour, Linda Cardellini and Richard Jenkins.

Dtf St. Louis, currently in production, is about a love triangle among adults experiencing middle-age malaise that leads to one of them ending up dead.

Awards season is set to take another turn on Sunday with the 78th annual BAFTA Awards. The 2025 BAFTA Awards begin live in London at 7 p.m. GMT/2 p.m. Et/11 a.m. Pt. Information on how to watch and stream this year’s BAFTA Awards ceremony in the U.S. can be found below.

This year’s BAFTA Awards film nominations list was led by Conclave, which received 12 total nominations, including bids for Best Film, Best British Film, Best Director for Edward Berger, and Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes. Cinema took over a snowy German capital on Thursday evening as the 2025 Berlin Film Festival officially kicked off with a breezy opening ceremony at the Berlinale Palast Theater.

The ceremony was much shorter than previous editions, with the bulk of the evening serving as the presentation of this year’s Honorary Bear for career achievement, which was handed to veteran actor Tilda Swinton. German filmmaker Edward Berger presented Swinton the award and she gave an impassioned, political speech to the audience inside the Palast.
