As a big fan of both found-footage horror movies and anthology horror movies, I have always loved the V/H/S series of films. They’ve introduced genre fans to some fantastic new directors, while also featuring fantastic shorts from some of the best horror directors going. There’s been so many great segments and it seems like a great idea to make this seventh instalment a little more science fiction-influenced.

There are six segments this time around. The start is obviously part of the wraparound and introduces a documentary about UFOs and aliens.

The first segment in V/H/S Beyond proper is titled ‘Stork’ from director Jordan Downey and is based on artwork by Oleg Vdovenko.

The found footage horror anthology series V/H/S was launched in 2012, with the sequels V/H/S/2 and V/H/S: Viral following in 2013 and 2014. There was a spin-off called SiREN in 2016, then the franchise went dormant for a few years… before being revived by the Shudder streaming service, which has had great success delivering a new V/H/S movie every year. There was V/H/S/94 in 2021, V/H/S/99 in 2022, V/H/S/85 in 2023, and V/H/S/Beyond earlier this month. There will be no lack of V/H/S next year, as our friends at Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that Shudder officially announced during the New York Comic Con that V/H/S/8 is in the works and will be receiving a 2025 release. No further details have been revealed.

Fresh out of New York Comic Con tonight, Shudder has officially announced that eighth franchise installment V/H/S/8 will be coming to the horror streaming service in 2025.

Created by Bloody Disgusting and Brad Miska, the found footage horror anthology franchise V/H/S kicked off in 2012 and has to date spawned six sequels including V/H/S/2, V/H/S: Viral, V/H/S/94, V/H/S/99 and V/H/S/85, and two spin-offs, Siren and Kids vs. Aliens.

Now streaming, Shudder just released V/H/S/Beyond this Halloween season.

The seventh instalment in the long-running found footage franchise, V/H/S/Beyond, sees the series change its focus somewhat, from straight forward horror to a science fiction/horror hybrid. While it doesn’t quite follow Jason and the Leprechaun into space, most of the segments do involve aliens or other sci-fi elements.

Directed by Jay Cheel the film’s wraparound “Abduction, Adduction” begins that trend as Mitch Horowitz, host of Alien Encounters: Fact or Fiction, hosts an investigation of a pair of VHS tapes allegedly found at a flea market, and said to be proof of alien visitation.

That segues into “Stork”, directed by Jordan Downey who co-wrote it with Kevin Stewart based on artwork by Oleg Vdovenko.

As a fan of anthology films, I have really come to get excited every fall, since we have gotten a new V/H/S film every year for the past few years, and it’s a tradition that I hope will continue. This series is one of my favorites, consistently delivering fun, creative entries from a variety of different creative talents. V/H/S/Beyond shifts gears a bit and brings six horror shorts with a sci-fi bend. In the 12 years since the release of its flagship film, the V/H/S franchise has spawned six sequels, a pair of spinoffs, and a forgotten miniseries (released exclusively on Snapchat). Following last year's V/H/S/85, the latest installment in the found-footage horror series is V/H/S/Beyond, a collection of segments based on aliens and featuring some of the franchise's best and gnarliest special effects to date.

Presented as a fake documentary about aliens, each segment of V/H/S/Beyond is broken up by talking-head interviews with experts, including a longtime believer and scholar and a trio of YouTubers who specialize in visual effects and make a living by debunking purported UFO footage. That ideological balance is thoughtful if somewhat extraneous in a horror anthology whose primary goal is to maximize thrills and chills, as Beyond often does.

The storied V/H/S horror anthology series is going to the great beyond. The Hollywood Reporter has the first trailer for V/H/S/ Beyond, the seventh installment in the franchise, which launched in 2012 as a project featuring multiple found-footage short films.

Variety exclusively reports that the seventh installment will feature some really exciting collaborations, like the directorial debut of Kate Siegel, best known for starring in projects such as The Fall of the House of Usher, Hush, and The Haunting of Hill House, all of which were created by her husband and frequent collaborator Mike Flanagan.

Perhaps most prominent among the list of names involved with this new entry is Mike Flanagan, the modern horror master whose credits include "The Haunting of Hill House," "Doctor Sleep," "Oculus," and the most recent "The Fall of the House of Usher." The seventh installment in Shudder’s “V/H/S” series is arriving just in time for Halloween, with a dynamic group of writers and directors contributing segments.

“V/H/S/Beyond,” a Shudder Original Film in association with Studio71, will debut on the horror streamer on Oct. 4, and Variety can exclusively reveal the segment names and filmmakers in this sci-fi-inspired chapter of the anthology series. Per a press release, the film “will feature six new bloodcurdling tapes, placing horror at the forefront of a sci-fi-inspired hellscape.”

After a brief flick through 80s television, replete with a pause on an Unsolved Mysteries-style show called Total Copy, which tells the story of Rory a test subject at Stamer University, to open proceedings. A show that the film returns to throughout its running time before wrapping things up in traditional anthology fashion and revealing Rory’s connection to the shorts we’ve just watched.

The V/H/S franchise took a twisted trip back to the 1980s with V/H/S/85 on Shudder this past Halloween season, and the Bd-produced horror movie comes to Blu-ray next month.

If the above image doesn’t make it abundantly clear, director Scott Derrickson brings a rather bloody, violent segment to V/H/S/85 with “Dreamkill.”

Derrickson, who needs no introduction, recently directed the horror blockbuster The Black Phone for Blumhouse and previously helmed horror favorites like The Exorcism of Emily Rose. With “Dreamkill,” Derrickson and writing partner C. Robert Cargill evoke the gritty horror of their nightmarish feature Sinister. Just in time for the spooky Halloween season comes another gory horror film that will shake you to the core. Aside from the very different but acclaimed film Lola, V/H/S/85 is possibly the best found footage movie of the year. Who else grew up watching '80s and '90s movies via the O.G. Vcr? The V/H/S franchise kicked off in 2012 and has spawned both sequels and spinoffs, capitalizing on the retro nostalgia of analog video. V/H/S/85 is the best one since V/H/S/94 (2021), effectively weaving in contemporary events and relentless humor (in a good way) in addition to the expected gory violence.

Exclusive: Emmy-nominee Freddy Rodriguez is leading the cast of the Shudder horror film V/H/S/85 set to premiere at Fantastic Fest next month. He portrays Detective Wayne Johnson, a seasoned detective investigating a variety of gruesome murders while on the trail of an elusive serial killer.

The cast is rounded out by Jordan Belfi, James Ransone, Dani Deetté, Rolando Davila-Beltran, Justen Jones, Marcio Moreno, Ari Gallegos, Forrest Hartl, Duffy McManus, Eric Pierson, Felipe de Lara, Tom Reed and Vivian Morse.

Totem is an upcoming horror film from notorious director Marcel Sarmiento (Deadgirl, 2008). The film was written by Evan Dickson. This year’s Blood List has named the 13 best genre scripts around town, and in its sixth year the annual screenplay contest is expanding its scope to include hot books, TV pilots, and young scribes ripe for signing. Taking top honors in 2014 is sci-fi thriller Bird Box from The Thing and Final Destination 5 scribe Eric Heisserer, an apocalyptic tale of a woman trying to lead her children to safety – all three blindfolded – after monsters descend on earth that turn people insane on sight. Universal set Heisserer to adapt the manuscript from Josh Malerman in 2013 for Mama helmer Andy Muschietti. Previous Blood List alumni include Black Swan, Stoker, Warm Bodies, and the upcoming Blumhouse thriller The Boy Next Door.

Like the Black List naming the top unproduced screenplays circulating around Hollywood, the genre-focused Blood List taps exec votes to determine each year’s best unmade horror, sci-fi, and thriller scripts.
