Exclusive: CBS has put in development Token White Friends, a multi-camera comedy from The Neighborhood team of CBS Studios and executive producers Aaron Kaplan via Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling via TrillTV and Cedric The Entertainer & Eric Rhone via A Bird and Bear Entertainment.

Written and executive produced by Josh Greenberg (Not Dead Yet), Jordan Black (The Wonder Years) and Jon Haller (30 Rock) White Token Friends is inspired by a true story. In it, when a Black couple adopts a white child, they reach out to three estranged white college friends to be part of their village.

Per the creators, Token White Friends is “about parenthood, culture clashes, and why it’s problematic for a 7-year-old white kid to wear cornrows.”

Tim Allen reprised his role as Home Improvement‘s Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor during Thursday’s Last Man Standing. In the episode, Vanessa hired the former Tool Time host (who was sporting a vintage Binford Tools t-shirt) to handle a series of home repairs. The half-hour concluded with a very meta conversation between Allen’s alter egos, which also alluded to the Fox sitcom’s fast-approaching series finale.

Fox’s “Last Man Standing” is going big in its final season, with an episode featuring Tim Allen in his leading role of Mike Baxter and reprising Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, the iconic character he played on ABC’s “Home Improvement” for eight seasons from 1991-1999.

The bit will come in the second episode of “Last Man Standing’s” upcoming ninth season, when Vanessa hires a home improvement repairman who bears an uncanny resemblance to Mike, who is struggling with an idea for his Outdoor Man 10th Anniversary vlog. And the idea for this epic half-hour, which airs Jan. 7 on Fox, came about because the broadcast network wanted to kick off the sitcom’s final season with something flashy.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has announced the winners of the WGA Awards for outstanding achievement in writing. In the Screenplay category, "Midnight in Paris," written by Woody Allen, took home the Original Screenplay award while "The Descendants," written by Alexander Payne, and Nat Faxon & Jim Rash based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemming, received the Best Adapted Screenplay award.

Winners of the WGA awards were announced Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Zooey Deschanel and Joel McHale served as hosts of the ceremony.

The Writers Guild of America East and West announced in October 2010 that for the first time in its then 62 years of honoring excellence in film, television, and radio, its WGA Awards would also recognizing outstanding writing in new media. The writers of Anyone But Me and 30 Rock’s Frank vs. Lutz online series were the honored recipients of two new awards added to the WGA’s 63rd annual ceremony. Susan Miller and Tina Cesa Ward took home a trophy evocative of a dorsal fin for Oustanding Acheivement in Writing Original New Media (an award online originals) and Jon Haller received the Oustanding Achievement in Writing Derivative New Media (an award for the online companions to preexisting television shows). The 64th Annual Writers Guild Awards is “a generic term referring to the joint efforts of two different Us labor unions: The Writers Guild of America, East (Wgae), representing TV and film writers East of the Mississippi. The Writers Guild of America, West (Wgaw), representing TV and film writers in Hollywood and southern California.” The 2012 Writers Guild Awards will be held on February 19, 2012.

Writers behind such HBO dramas as Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones were nominated for the 2012 Writers Guild Awards, announced today. Scribes for the AMC drama Breaking Bad also received multiple nods, as did NBC’s 30 Rock and ABC’s Modern Family.

The Writers Guild of America hosted its 63rd Annual Writers Guild Awards (or, as Kristen Schaal called them, ‘The Introverted Emmys’) on Saturday night at simultaneous ceremonies in New York City and Los Angeles. Schaal played the role of gracious, accommodating, well-timed, and hysterical host to the WGA East East event, introducing presenters like Judah Friedlander, Kathleen Turner, and John Larroquette to dispense Whale Tail statuettes (this kind of whatle’s tail, not that kind) to the writing teams behind Boardwalk Empire, 30Rock, and The Colbert Report. Band of Brothers and Gossip Girl star Matthew Settle had the honor of announcing the winners of the WGA’s newly introduced new media categories. In his intro, Settle likened the burgeoning entertainment medium to many of the young characters on Gossip Girl - hot, exciting, and without any discernible form of income. A great line, even if we know it’s not necessarily accurate.

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."

For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

Writers Guild of America has announced the writers who receive nominations at next year's awards for their work in television. The most nod that one show gets is three, and that number is claimed by "Modern Family", "30 Rock" and "Breaking Bad".

"Modern Family" and "30 Rock", which have won Emmys, will be up against each other in comedy series and have each received two nods for episodic category. Meanwhile, "Breaking Bad" takes a nod in drama field and two additional episodic nominations.

AMC's "The Walking Dead" is vying for new series prize, battling "Boardwalk Empire", "Justified", "Treme" and "Men of a Certain Age" along the way. "Empire" in particular is also nominated for drama series against older and more prominent shows like "Mad Men" and "Dexter".

Today the Writer’s Guild of America kept the spirit of awards season happy by revealing their nominations for achievements in writing for television. Plenty of our favorite shows got some love from WGA members including like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, 30 Rock and Modern Family while plenty of new series like Boardwalk Empire, Justified and The Walking Dead also got some praise. Even the finale episode of Lost is in the mix of episodic nominees. Aside from the narrative dramas and comedies, other staple series like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report get their due diligence as well.
