WWE superstar Damien Priest almost had a role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but the role was taken from him. However, according to Priest, it wasn't Disney or Marvel Studios that nixed the deal, and there could have been another party involved. Priest has become one of the most exciting names in wrestling, having won the WWE United States Championship in 2021 and the World Heavyweight Championship. With a star presence, Priest seemed destined to make the leap into acting with fellow WWE wrestlers Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, and Dave Bautista.
It seems Priest came very close to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In an interview on Insight With Chris Van Vilet, Priest revealed he was offered a role in the hit 2022 MCU sequel. While Priest does not disclose which role it was, it seems that the role was likely Attuma, the loyal right-hand warrior of Namor,...

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finally brought Namor the Submariner into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the character underwent some significant changes, with Atlantis swapped out for Talokan and his origin story rooted in Mayan legend.
While not everyone was happy about that, it went a long way in helping to differentiate Namor from DC's Aquaman.
Thanks to Marvel Studios concept artist Phil Saunders (who has spent the past year working on Disney's Tron: Ares), we have a new look at some sequences which didn't make it into the Black Panther sequel's final cut.
That includes a clash between Ironheart and Namora. "The script originally called for an extended battle between [Riri Williams] and [Namora] that would have taken them underwater," Saunders says. "It was inevitably cut to keep the focus on [Shuri] and [Namor], but gave me the opportunity to paint some dynamic shots."

Dominique Thorne entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Riri Williams with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but the actress had actually auditioned for the role of Shuri in the original movie. She obviously didn’t win the role, but she impressed Marvel Studios enough that they knew they wanted to work with her in future. In Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is now streaming on Disney+, a short clip of Thorne’s original audition is played, with the actress appearing alongside the late Chadwick Boseman.

The hit Marvel sequel takes place following the death of Chadwick Boseman’s King T’Challa with the people of Wakanda grieving his loss and searching for a way for their kingdom to endure.
In “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba) fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of T’Challa’s death.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" sees Danai Gurira once again becoming the "bald-headed demon" and Dora Milaje leader, Okoye. You've seen Gurira slicing and dicing zombies; now, she's fighting blue merfolk. They're not *really* mermaids and mermen, though we can certainly hope to someday see an Okoye vs. the Little Mermaid crossover.
No, the merfolk-type people Okoye is battling in "Wakanda Forever" are the fearsome water warriors, the Talokanil, led by Namor (Tenoch Huerta). If Namor himself can be regarded as the General Zod of this equation, then his lieutenants, Namora (Mabel Cadena) and Attuma (Alex Livinalli), might correspond to Ursa and Non, the secondary villains in "Superman II."
In /Film's forthcoming interview with Gurira, she discussed her preparations for Okoye's bridge fight with Attuma in "Wakanda Forever." And she told us they involved some injuries, followed by physical therapy:

One week into it’s worldwide release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has spawned a multiverse of conversations surrounding grief, fate, honor and duty — all themes that add new texture to viewers’ understanding of both the singular hero’s journey and the multiplied power of community. Having grossed more than 400 million worldwide to date, the film is at once deeply present, and Afrofuturist while dwelling in the past; the immediate invocation of the ancestors and portrayal of inherited traditions guide the sequel’s cast of characters in the absence of the late Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa) in order to carry the next generation forward.
When reflecting on her preparation for the role of Nakia, Lupita Nyong’o tells The Hollywood Reporter she had to face the task she was given, “which was of a woman who was at a different stage of accepting the loss than I was.

Few films in the 21st century have made as large of a cultural impact as “Black Panther.” A sequel was inevitable, but Chadwick Boseman’s tragic death put the creative team in a seemingly impossible position. How do you continue a franchise without its titular star?
As part of IndieWire’s Consider This FYC Brunch November 18, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” producer Nate Moore and costume designer Ruth E. Carter joined IndieWire’s Marcus Jones for a conversation about bringing the fictional African nation of Wakanda to life once again.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is caught between two worlds. That's nothing new for a movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where audiences are frequently whisked off into space or transported to separate dimensions a la the multiverse — but this movie does things a little differently. No wizard portals or futuristic ships are required because we never actually leave the planet Earth. Instead, the people of Wakanda come to realize that they aren't the only super-advanced vibranium-hoarding country on the planet.
In revealing itself to the world, Wakanda has made an enemy of a society that preferred to exist in the shadows. Or better yet, in the depths of the ocean, where no one was the wiser.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an unprecedented success story in filmmaking, a unique experiment in crafting an interconnected universe with dozens of characters and some great stories. But for all its features, the MCU doesn't have a great track record when it comes to its villains. Sure, some are great — like Thanos, the mighty conqueror with some good points that had the internet debating whether he did anything wrong. There's also Zemo, the charismatic mercenary with some rather good taste in music and some good points that had the internet debating whether he did anything wrong. Oh, and who can forget about Killmonger, the charismatic mercenary with some good points that had the internet debating whether he did anything wrong. Other than them — and the "Spider-Man" villains — anytime we had a half-decent villain in the MCU, they died as soon as they were introduced.

The follow up to 2018's "Black Panther" was always going to face unfair comparisons to other films. Not only did it need to live up to its predecessor, but "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is also arriving at a time when its set pieces look strangely like James Cameron's forthcoming "Avatar" sequel and its rendering of a fictional underwater city follows in the footsteps of James Wan's nothing-if-not visually spectacular "Aquaman." Where "Wakanda Forever" surely succeeds though is in its use of Mayan and Aztec history to reinterpret Marvel Comics' Namor: The Sub-Mariner for a modern audience and to update the tired trope of Atlantis with the fresh image of Talokan.
We would expect nothing less from writer-director Ryan Coogler, whose wide inclusion of cultures across Africa in the first cinematic imagining of Wakanda (however reductive) was a large part of what made "Black Panther" a hit. And like Wakanda,...

Over the past few years, Marvel Studios has strived to tell more diverse stories, pulling not only from the rich lore of their comics but also from the history of other cultures. Marvel Cinematic Universe stories such as "Eternals," "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," and "Ms. Marvel" are deeply rooted in the cultures and traditions of people from around the world. The celebration of different cultures is front-and-center in the newest film in the MCU: "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
The first "Black Panther" film received acclaim for its story and world-building, and was the first Marvel Studios film with a Black director and predominantly Black cast. With "Wakanda Forever," Coogler uses his skills to tell the story of another underrepresented minority in the MCU. At the forefront of the film and its marketing has been the opposing force against Wakanda, Namor, and his underwater nation of Talokan.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduces a whole new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Talokan the secret underwater kingdom. Although the people of Wakanda are mourning the loss of their protector and king, T’Challa, a new threat will rise to the surface with Namor. The ruler of Talokan, a nation that mirrors Wakanda in many ways, will test them in a way the rest of the world could never dream of doing.
Talokan, like Wakanda, has kept themselves isolated and hidden in order to protect their resources. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will also introduce two important Talokan warriors Namora and Attuma. Namora and Attuma fight alongside Namor and, while their relationship with him in the comics is complicated, that may not be the case in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Before filming “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” director Ryan Coogler didn’t know how to swim.
“A lot of us were raised to have fear of water,” the 36-year-old filmmaker told Variety, admitting his own trepidation and evoking the various reasons Black people have avoided — or ways they’ve been excluded — from pools and the ocean over the years. “I had to figure out how to swim so I could direct this movie.”
It’s late October and Coogler is sitting alongside two of his lead actors, Angela Bassett and Letitia Wright, at Variety’s cover shoot, just hours before the world premiere of the Marvel sequel. As “Wakanda Forever” introduces Namor, ruler of Talokan — a hidden underwater realm and surprising new threat to “Black Panther’s” fictional African kingdom of Wakanda — about half the movie’s scenes take place in the depths of the ocean.

Alex Livinalli, who plays Attuma in Black Panther 2, describes the respect Attuma holds for Namor as a leader and their deep bond. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will introduce Namor, his hidden kingdom of Talokan, and his warriors Namora and Attuma. Talokan's warriors, under the leadership of Namor, prove to be a major threat to Wakanda.
Attuma is one of Namor's greatest rivals in Marvel Comics, as he constantly challenges him for the throne. An impressive warrior with martial arts skills and strength, Attuma is nearly a match for Namor. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has already changed major aspects of Namor's origin and the origins of his people, and now it seems to be changing this iconic rivalry. In Screen Rant's exclusive interview with Livinalli, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actor explains the relationship between Namor and Attuma in the new MCU movie and alludes to a very different dynamic than in the comics.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finds Wakanda and its people in a very different place. Wakanda is a country in mourning after losing T’Challa, their king and Black Panther, but it also soon becomes a nation at war. The movie introduces a new threat to the nation with Namor the leader of the underwater civilization Talokan.
Lupita Nyong’o’s character Nakia is in a completely different place than in Black Panther after losing the love of her life. T’Challa’s death has had a major impact on Nakia, changing her outlook as she mourns the loss in the new movie. But she is also a warrior and thus will play an important role against the new threat of war.

Alex Livinalli, who plays Talokan warrior Attuma and fights alongside Namor in Black Panther 2, defends the actions of Talokan in the new MCU movie. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sees Wakanda mourning the death of their king, T'Challa, but soon war breaks out between them and the hidden underwater kingdom Talokan. Ruled by Namor, Talokan proves to be a massive threat to Wakanda—especially in the wake of losing their own leader and protector.
In Black Panther 2, Talokan and Wakanda mirror each other in many ways, with both nations historically isolating themselves and their resources from the rest of the world. In Ryan Coogler’s upcoming sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the nation is left reeling by the passing of King T’Challa (played by the late Chadwick Boseman). It’s during their time of grieving, and of celebrating T’Challa’s life, that a new power rises up from the sea. The Talocan nation, led by Namor the Sub-Mariner (Tenoch Huerta), is seeking answers and justice for their people, which could spell out war for Wakanda. This conflict introduces all-new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Mabel Cadena’s Namora and Alex Livinalli’s Attuma, who sat down with Collider’s Steve Weintraub ahead of the film’s release.

A day after releasing the audio for “Lift Me Up,” her new song from the soundtrack of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Rihanna has dropped the official music video, and you can watch it above now.
The video is a fairly simple thing — Rihanna just went to a beach somewhere and had a camera crew capture her looking emotional against a sunset and twilight sky. It’s interspersed with footage from “Wakanda Forever,” which will of course be its own kind of emotional, since the context both in the story and in the real world is the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer in 2020.
The song is Rihanna’s first solo single since “Lemon” in 2017.

Rihanna returns to music after a long break with “Lift Me Up,” the lead single off of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. “Lift Me Up” was written by Rihanna, Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and will drop on Friday, October 28, 2022.
The original song is a moving tribute to Chadwick Boseman and was produced by Göransson.
“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” said Tems. “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.

It’s been 6 long years since Rihanna’s last studio album, and 5 since her last solo single, “Lemon.” She’s appeared on a few other artists’ records here and there, but that’s still a long time for fans to go without Luckily, it looks like the Rihannapocalypse might be ending soon — thanks to “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Earlier this month rumors spread that Rihanna has recorded two tracks for the upcoming Marvel movie and on Tuesday Marvel appears to have confirmed them. On Twitter the studio posted an animation of the “Wakanda Forever” logo that jumbles around and then fades away, leaving only the letter R, and a date: 10/28/22.

With less than a month to go before the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Studios has released a new clip from the movie. With the release of the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it’s becoming something of a Marvel Monday.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever clip features Okoye (Danai Gurira), Aneka (Michaela Coel), and Ayo (Florence Kasumba) taking out some soldiers in a laboratory. While both Okoye and Ayo are using the spears associated with the Dora Milaje, Aneka is using a set of energy daggers given to her by Shuri (Letitia Wright), which prompts Okoye to give her a talking to.
