Following the massive success of Paramount’s Scream revival, it was only a matter of time before another iconic ’90s slasher got the legacy sequel treatment. Now, I Know What You Did Last Summer is officially next in line. Deadline unveiled that Kaytin Robinson, best known for directing Netflix’s (surprisingly excellent) Do Revenge, was tapped to lead the project. Neal H. Moritz, a producer on the original film, is returning, and screenwriter Leah McKendrick is set to pen the script.
After a slew of casting reports, today we have an official poster and synopsis for the new film. And honestly, they both kind of slay. Sony Pictures has just unveiled the first official poster and the synopsis for the upcoming installment—and it sounds like a bloody good time. Here’s how the plot is described:
Insiders say Robinson and McKendrick impressed Sony executives with their bold vision for the sequel.

There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) coming our way from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge). Robinson’s Do Revenge star Camila Mendes (Riverdale) was attached to star in the film at one time, but had to drop out due to scheduling issues with the Masters of the Universe movie, where she plays the Teela character. Mendes was replaced by Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies) – and while speaking to People, Wonders said the new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel is going to be “really fun.”

That doesn’t mean that fans aren’t eager to see their characters again anyway, and Robinson has taken to social media to tease the return of Julie James. Robinson shared an image that shows the character has received a piece of mail in the new film – and the handwriting on the envelope is reminiscent of the notes Julie was receiving from a hook-wielding killer nearly thirty years ago.

Sony Pictures has announced that cameras are now officially rolling on the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, and we have a first behind-the-scenes image featuring a familiar-looking hook.
Ben Willis, aka The Fisherman, was the seemingly unkillable villain of the original trilogy. Believed to be a normal man who set out to take revenge on the group of teens who left him for dead in the first movie, he survived all manner of carnage in the two sequels with zero explanation.
Whether this will turn out to be Willis or a copycat killer remains to be seen.
The studio has also confirmed that both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are set to reprise their respective roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, but there's no mention of Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was chosen to direct the film, with Leah McKendrick writing the script based on an idea from both Robinson and McKendrick. Neal H. Moritz will produce. The plot is expected to be similar to Scream (2022), where original characters are part of a story with a younger cast. The film is set to be released on July 18, 2025.
Recently, the new film has been joined by a cast of Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette. The movie will also star Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders,...

Original I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. now look set to reprise their respective roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson for the upcoming legacy sequel, and co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar might just be joining them.
The Buffy The Vampire Slayer star recently reminded an interviewer that her return was highly unlikely since her character, beauty queen Helen Shivers, was killed off in the first movie, but fans are now speculating that she might be set to reprise her role after all thanks to the following photo Gellar shared to Instagram.
While it's entirely possible Gellar has a role in the movie (and not necessarily the late miss Shivers), it's far from the only explanation for her presence on set. Gellar is married to Prinze Jr., and is also close friends with director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Ever since audiences—at least according to myth—ran screaming from the premiere screening of Auguste and Louis Lumière’s 1895 short black-and-white silent documentary Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat, the histories of filmgoing and horror have been inextricably intertwined. Through the decades—and subsequent crazes for color and sound, stereoscopy and anamorphosis—since that train threatened to barrel into the front row, there’s never been a time when audiences didn’t clamor for the palpating fingers of fear. Horror films remain perennially popular, despite periodic (and always exaggerated) rumors of their demise, even in the face of steadily declining ticket sales and desperately shifting models of distribution.
Into the new millennium, horror films have retained their power to shock and outrage by continuing to plumb our deepest primordial terrors, to incarnate our sickest, most socially unpalatable fantasies. They are, in what amounts to a particularly delicious irony,...

The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot cast is coming together in a promising way. We just learned that Golden Globe Award nominee Billy Campbell has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. I wonder who he could be playing in the slasher.
Campbell joins a growing list of actors who have already been announced to be in the cast, such as Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.
Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced recently to have officially joined the cast, reprising his role of Ray Bronson from the original film and its 1998 sequel. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood are also in talks to return in their roles as Julie James and Karla Wilson.
Additionally, Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders is currently in discussions about joining the cast of the upcoming Sony movie. However, who she will be portraying in the film is unknown.

The slasher franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer is returning with a brand new legacy sequel next year, with Freddie Prinze Jr. confirmed to reprise his role from the original movies and Jennifer Love Hewitt in talks to return as well. I Know What You Did Last Summer alum Sarah Michelle Gellar is squashing rumors that she will appear in the sequel and she has a good reason. I am dead, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress said, per Deadline. Gellars character, beauty queen Helen Shivers, faced a violent death in the 1997 teen-horror-slasher movie.
Gellar, however, will be tangentially connected to the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel via her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr. who is coming back for the sequel as Roy Bronson, the character he played in the original. In that film, the story follows four friends, played by Prinze Jr., Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ryan Phillippe, who are being stalked by a man wielding a hook. The movie was loosely based on a 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is making it clear she won’t return to the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel film because her character is dead.
With a sequel to the slasher film in the works, many fans speculated if Gellar would reprise her role of beauty queen Helen Shivers.
“I am dead,” Gellar told People about the fate her character faced in the 1997 film.
However, Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., will reprise his role, and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum said she will be part of the film in an “unofficial” capacity.
“My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity,” Gellar told the publication. “So I’m always the one telling her, ‘Well, that would happen, or that wouldn’t happen with those characters,’ so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.

Freddie Prinze Jr. has joined the cast of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” a sequel to the 1997 horror film in which he starred opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe.
Of the original cast members, Hewitt is in talks to reprise her role as well. Until her contract is finalized, Prinze is set to star alongside Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Haur-King. Camila Mendes was supposed to be in the film, but the “Riverdale” actor recently exited the project due to scheduling conflicts.
It’s unclear where the upcoming sequel will pick up, but the original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” follows four teens from a small seaside town stalked by a hook-wielding killer one year after covering up a car accident that was believed to be fatal. The film became a box office success with $125 million globally.

Riverdale alum Camila Mendes has parted ways with Sony Pictures' upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
According to Deadline, the actress simply could not make the production dates work after recently signing on to play the female lead in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films' Masters of the Universe movie, in which she'll play Teela.
As previously reported, Mendes joins Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man in the live-action adaptation of the classic animated series.
Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Hauer-King are still on board for supporting roles in Ikwydls, but we have no idea how losing its lead will impact the production.
We first learned that Sony was planning to develop a legacy sequel to the '90s slasher last year, with stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. in negotiations to reprise their respective roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson.

Madelyn Cline (“Outer Banks”) will star in Sony’s reboot alongside Sarah Pidgeon (“Gotham”), Tyriq Withers (“Atlanta”) and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid).
Last we heard, both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. were also in negotiations to potentially star alongside the fresh new faces.
