According to Deadline, Colin Farrell is considering taking on the title role in Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt. Rock movie for DC. It was initially expected that Daniel Craig would star in the movie, but he never had an official offer and dropped out last month.
The report states that Farrell does want to do Sgt. Rock, but the production would need to work around his busy schedule. He’s got several projects set to kick off later this year, including the second season of Sugar for Apple TV+. It was previously reported that Guadagnino was hoping to start production in the UK this summer, assuming they can find the right actor to star.
Farrell is already part of the DC family, as he played Oswald “Oz” Cobb in The Batman, took center stage in HBO’s The Penguin, and is expected to return for The Batman Part II. But there...

Margot Robbie & Colin Farrell's New Movie Will Avoid Thunderbolts* Competition With New Release Date
Fans of Barbie’s Margot Robbie and The Penguin’s Colin Farrell will have to wait a few more months for the duo’s new romance drama. The theatrical release of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has been pushed back.
Per Deadline, the film, which was originally set for a May 9 release, has been pushed back to Sept. 19. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is directed by Kogonada (The Acolyte) and written by Seth Reiss. The new release date means that the Sony Pictures' film won’t be in direct competition with the upcoming Disney/Marvel Studios' movie Thunderbolts*, which opens on May 2. However, the change does leave May 9 without a major movie studio theatrical opening.
Slated for the weekend of May 9 are the films Clown in a Cornfield, Fight or Flight, and Juliet and Romeo, from IFC, Vertical Entertainment, and Briarcliff Entertainment, respectively. Instead, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will...

Sony has delayed A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, directed by After Yang’s Kogonada and starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.
The absence of marketing for Sony’s upcoming mysterious film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, has had plenty of folks suggesting for a while that the film would be delayed. A no-prize reward goes to to them, then, as that has proven to be the case. Directed by Kogonada (After Yang) the film’s an intriguing oddity: the kind of expensive, movie star-driven project that we continue to be thankful to Sony for supporting.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey was originally set to appear in cinemas a week after Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, but Sony appears to have backed off from that counter-programming strategy. “A Big Beautiful Journey” is taking a journey of its own.
The Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell-led drama, which was originally dated for a May 9 release, is moving to September 19. This will make the film a key bit of counterprogramming in the horror-heavy pre-Halloween corridor. The date change will also give Sony time to make it a true female event movie, something they have experience with (“It Ends With Us” made over $350 million worldwide).
The movie is described as “an original tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.”
“A Big Beautiful Journey” was directed by Kogonada (“After Yang”) and was written by Seth Reiss. It was produced by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, Reiss and Youree Henley. Kogonada, Ilene Feldman and Ori Eisen serve as executive producers. The supporting cast includes Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater.

The Sony Pictures release of the romance drama A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is heading to Sept. 19 this year instead of May 9. Apparently, it’s better to be on a weekend up against the Universal horror movie Him and the James L. This leaves May 9 without a major studio wide entry; just IFC’s Clown in a Cornfield, which is world premiering tonight at SXSW, Vertical Entertainment’s Fight or Flight, and Briarcliff Entertainment’s Juliet and Romeo.

Moviegoers will have to wait a little longer for the Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell-led romantic fantasy “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” as Sony has shifted the film’s domestic theatrical release from May 9 to Sept. 19.
Sources close to production tell Variety that a September release was more appealing to the studio, as it’s filled with more horror and male-centered titles, allowing the female event film to stand out.
“A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” is described as “an imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.” Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater also star.

This critically acclaimed drama about how spaces can haunt and heal us is the finest work of John Cho, Haley Lu Richardson and director Kogonada’s careers

Brady Corbet’s Oscar hopeful The Brutalist offers a somewhat skewed depiction of architectural intent, one where public demonstrations of genius and private catharses have an outsized impact on a building’s design. Grand gestures and hidden intentions make for good drama but physical space in The Brutalist is rendered secondary to psychological space – it’s a film about a great architect, not great architecture. For the latter, one must watch the Korean-American director Kogonada’s film Columbus.
Early on in this gentle drama, Jin (John Cho) speaks of the renowned architect James Polshek’s belief in architecture as a “healing art” while looking at one of Polshek’s designs: the glass walkway of the Columbus regional mental health center.

Last August, we got word that Lucasfilm/Disney had decided not to movie forward with a second season of The Acolyte despite several major storylines and character arcs being left unresolved by the end of the season 1 finale - including the introduction of Darth Plagueis.
The decision was met with a mixture of indifference and disappointment, but it seemed very clear that a lot of Star Wars fans - and some of the actors involved with the show - were surprised by this development.
Showrunner Leslye Headland was hoping to be able to continue her High Republic era-set tale, and rumor has it that the studio was planning a second season up until fairly recently.
Despite speculation that the negative backlash from many Star Wars fans contributed to the show being canned, reports emerged that The Acolyte was cancelled because it didn't get enough viewers, plain and simple.

Exclusive: MGM+ has given an eight-episode series order to American Classic, a half-hour comedy starring and executive produced by Oscar winner Kevin Kline. Jon Tenney co-stars in the series from co-creators Michael Hoffman and Bob Martin.
This marks only the second half-hour comedy series in MGM+’s history after 2016’s Graves, starring Nick Nolte, which ran for two seasons. (The linear channel and streaming service’s other half-hour original was the 2021 dramedy Bridge and Tunnel.)
American Classic had been in the works at MGM+ for more than three years; it was announced as part of the development slate of the platform (then named Epix) on February 3, 2022. Fifth Season has since come on board as studio, with Mar-Key Pictures, Likely Story and Anonymous Content producing.

While it is safe to say that the film industry has survived to 2025, one of the greatest casualties of the Hollywood strikes of 2023 has been the entertainment industry’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The continued push into Hollywood consolidation inevitably leads to debt, which leads to developmental programs and jobs being cut. Warner Bros. Discovery and the Paramount/Skybound merger are only the most recent examples of this.
But one could argue there is also a growing sentiment that media CEOs are simply no longer interested or invested in putting more effort into diversity. Consider it a backlash to the backlashes of 2016 and 2020, the very ones that focused on pushing Hollywood to empower more filmmakers who are women and/or people of color. While the most recent USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study does not quite show a decline in inclusion, it does reveal that the progress in finding, elevating,...

Following stand-out turns in Netflix's Squid Game and Disney+'s The Acolyte, South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae might be set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to scooper Mttsh, Jung-jae is in talks for an undisclosed MCU role.

The revolution is coming, and it seems like there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. As artificial intelligence continues to ramp up and infiltrate everyone's daily lives, it is inevitable that more science fiction films about the topic will spring up. Filmmakers have been giving their 2 cents on artificial intelligence for years, even prior to the massive recent developments of this decade, such as Gpt-4. From Spielberg's A.I. to Blade Runner to Alien, there have been countless takes on the subject in film, and all of them manage to be vastly different across multiple genres. Despite how fresh those three classics may seem, it is very easy for A.I. movies to age poorly due to the fact that the technology is constantly evolving.

Margot Robbie recently shared a story about her audition for The Wolf of Wall Street, recounting how she feared she would be arrested after changing up the script. The 2013 Martin Scorsese film saw Robbie starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill.
In an interview with TCM's Ben Mankiewicz on the "Talking Pictures" podcast, Robbie revealed how she changed up one of her scenes with DiCaprio -- choosing to slap him instead of kissing him like the script called for. "I thought, 'I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be awesome. I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this,'" Robbie said. "And then I thought, nah. And just walloped him in the face. It was dead silent for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds."

In 2021, filmmaker Kogonada assembled an impressive lineup of performers for his sci-fi drama flick, After Yang. Starring Colin Farrell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Justin H. Min, and Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja, the film served as a deep dive into the caverns of grief and mourning as a family reels from the loss of one of their own. Soon, the filmmaker will be at it again, this time with a romantic fantasy feature titled A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. Set for an arrival in cinemas on May 9, 2025, not much else is known about the production aside from its call sheet that will see Farrell and Turner-Smith reunite with the filmmaker alongside a lineup that includes Margot Robbie, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Lily Rabe, Hamish Linklater, Billy Magnussen, and more.

Across the Star Wars saga, all kinds of legendary filmmakers have come out to play – from George Lucas kicking it all off (alongside Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand), to Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams in the sequel era, and the likes of Jon Favreau, Bryce Dallas Howard, Carl Weathers, Robert Rodriguez, and Kogonada helming episodes of the streaming series. But even by Star Wars standards, upcoming series Skeleton Crew – a galactic pirate adventure, in which four suburban kids get lost in the vastness of space and have to find their way home – boasts a particularly stellar roster of filmmakers.

Jodie Turner-Smith, who played Mother Aniseya in The Acolyte, has called out Disney for not doing enough to defend the cast - particularly Amandla Stenberg - when they were targetted for online abuse.
Back in August, we got word that Lucasfilm/Disney would not be moving forward with a second season of the Disney+ Star Wars series, despite several major storylines and character arcs being left unresolved by the end of the season 1 finale.
The decision was met with a mixture of indifference and disappointment, but it's very clear that a lot of Star Wars fans - and some of the actors involved with the show - were surprised by this development.
The "official" reason for the show's cancellation was low/declining viewership, but many feel the intense backlash from a vocal minority may have factored into the decision. We may never know if this was the case, but Stenberg...

Emerald Fennell has found her Cathy and Heathcliff. The “Saltburn” and “Promising Young Woman” director had set up an adaptation of Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights” at MRC, and now it’s full speed into the moors as Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have joined the project in the lead roles of the doomed lovers.
Elordi is reuniting with Fennell after starring in her nuclear reactor of a social media buzz generator “Saltburn” in 2023, with Robbie’s LuckyChap producing for MRC. LuckyChap produced both “Saltburn” and Fennell’s Oscar-winning debut “Promising Young Woman.”
The film is now in pre-production, gearing up for a UK shoot in 2025. Fennell had already teased the project in a cryptic way, with an Instagram post featuring the title and the tagline “Be with me always. Take any form. Drive me mad.”

This marks LuckyChap and Fennell’s third collaboration following 2020’s “Promising Young Woman” (which won Fennell the Oscar for best original screenplay) and 2023’s “Saltburn.” Fennell also had a featured role in LuckyChap’s $1.4 billion-grossing and Academy Award-winning “Barbie” movie, which Robbie produced and starred in last year.

Amandla Stenberg, who played the dual lead roles of Force-sensitive "twins" Osha and Mae in The Acolyte, has broken her silence on Disney+'s latest Star Wars series being cancelled, and it sounds like she feels the negative backlash did contribute to Lucasfilm's decision to some extent.
Reports have indicated that the studio decided not to renew the show for a second season because of declining viewership, but Stenberg believes that a "rampage of hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred, and hateful language" contributed to the overall negative perception of the project.
“It’s not a huge shock for me [that it was canceled]. Of course, I live in the bubble of my own reality but for those who aren’t aware there has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was even announced ... when it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it.

Earlier this week, we got word that Lucasfilm/Disney will not be moving forward with a second season of The Acolyte despite several major storylines and character arcs being left unresolved by the end of the season 1 finale.
The decision was met with a mixture of indifference and disappointment, but it's very clear that a lot of Star Wars fans - and some of the actors involved with the show - were surprised by this development.
Showrunner Leslye Headland was hoping to be able to continue her High Republic era-set tale, and rumor has it that the studio was planning a second season up until fairly recently.
So, what happened?
Despite speculation that the negative backlash from many Star Wars fans contributed to the decision, Jeff Sneider (via SFFGazette.com) is reporting that The Acolyte was cancelled because it didn't get enough viewers, plain and simple.

The news that Lucasfilm will not be renewing The Acolyte for a second season broke earlier this week, and while some weren't overly surprised (or bothered), others were very disappointed that this High Republic era-story will not continue.
The series, which was created by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), received mostly positive reviews from critics, but was not as warmly embraced by the fandom, earning just an 18% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. A certain amount of the negative feedback can be attributed to review-bombing, but even so, it's clear that The Acolyte was not one of the more popular Disney+ Star Wars shows.
The enigmatic Sith warrior known as The Stranger, aka Qimir, and the flawed Jedi Master Sol were two of the show's most popular characters, and actors Manny Jacinto and Lee Jung-jae have now shared their responses to the cancellation.
Lee admits that he was "personally, quite surprised" by the news.

Everyone knows Apple TV+ for Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and Severance. There have been a few other popular TV shows sprinkled in over the last few years. Presumed Innocent starring Jake Gyllenhaal had some good buzz recently. Despite Apple TV+’s substantial investment into the TV business, it’s still looking for mainstream hits.

The Apple TV+ drama series “Pachinko” will begin its second season on August 23, telling the continuing story of a Korean family across generations. The show is based on the bestselling novel by Min Jin Lee. Season two will pick up where season one left off, chronicling the struggles and resilience of the family in the face of adversity.
The new season resumes the story of Sunja, a strong-willed woman who fled Korea in the 1930s for Japan due to an unexpected pregnancy. Season one followed her journey and the lives of her descendants, shifting between the 1930s in Korea and 1980s Japan. Season two expands on this timeline to explore the start of World War II and the hardships faced by Sunja’s two sons, Noa and Mozasu, as they take different paths in life under Japanese occupation.
Series creator Soo Hugh said viewers will be “taken on an even deeper emotional journey” this season.

We found out late last night that The Acolyte will not return, with Lucasfilm making the decision to cancel the latest live-action Disney+ Star Wars series after just a single season.
The news was met with indifference by those who were never particularly invested in the story, but a lot of fans were disappointed, due in no small part to the fact that the finale left so many major plot points unresolved.
The narrative seems to be that Lucasfilm/Disney never intended to renew the show for more episodes due to low viewership numbers (the verbiage doesn't really matter - the show is not returning), but this may not be the case after all.
According to The Hot Mic co-host John Rocha, tentative plans were in place to develop a second season.

Lucasfilm has decided not to move forward with a second season of Disney+'s latest live-action Star Wars series. The news has now been confirmed by both Deadline and THR: The Acolyte has officially been cancelled.
“It was an easy target,” said one source. “And it hurt the public perception of the show.”
The Acolyte got off to a strong start after its two-episode premiere, generating 4.8M views in its first day on Disney+ to rank as the biggest series premiere on the streamer this year.

May 2025 will mark the release of Margot Robbie’s follow-up to Barbie – A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.
Margot Robbie has all the ingredients necessary to be a world-beating movie star right now: her last film, Barbie, was the most commercially successful movie of 2023 and it was a project that she also produced. After banking over one billion dollars at the box office with Greta Gerwig’s joyous Barbie movie, Margot Robbie is ready to embark on A Big Bold Beautiful Journey in 2025. The Kogonada-directed drama opens on May 9, 2025, during Mother’s Day weekend. The newly-announced release date finds A Big Bold Beautiful Journey arriving in theaters one week after the theatrical debut of Marvel Studios‘ Thunderbolts*, which hits cinemas on May 2, 2025. Some could say it’s a bold move to go toe-to-toe with one of Marvel’s action blockbusters, especially after the overwhelming success of the studio’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which has banked over one billion at the box office.
Kogonada directs A Big Bold Beautiful Journey from a script by Seth Reiss. The film reportedly focuses on two strangers and how their paths align unexpectedly. Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater join the cast alongside Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.

This week's season finale of The Acolyte left us with quite a bit to mull over while we await a season 2 announcement, and while several plotlines and character arcs were left open to continue, "shippers" now seem satisfied that there is a romantic connection between Qimir, aka The Stranger, and Osha after that final shot.
After the Stranger witnesses Osha kill Master Sol using a Force-choke, the pair return to the island (which will likely be revealed as Bal'demnic) where he brought her after the Jedi massacre in episode 5.
Osha looks out over the ocean, and Qimir approaches his new apprentice, resting his hand on her's as she grips her (formerly Sol's) lightsaber.
This definitely seems to be hinting at more than just a teacher/pupil dynamic, and showrunner Leslye Headland has previously revealed that a kiss between the two was considered. Now, actor Manny Jacinto gives his take during an interview with EW,...

The first season (assuming there will be a second) of The Acolyte concluded earlier this week with an exciting finale which featured the long-awaited debut of a character first mentioned in the Star Wars prequels, and a cameo from a certain fan-favorite Jedi Master.
Spoilers follow.
There's been speculation that Qimir's master might turn out to be Darth Plagueis - the powerful Sith Senator Palpatine told Anakin Skywalker about in Revenge of the Sith - and the brief glimpse of a hooded alien with glowing eyes as "The Stranger" departed with Osha would appear to confirm as much.
Though we weren't certain that this was definitely Plagueis at the time, the sinister figure did appear to be part of the Muun species, and showrunner Leslye Headland has since confirmed that this was no misdirect: Darth Plagueis is now officially part of the new Star Wars canon.
This wasn't the only big reveal,...

The following contains spoilers for The Acolyte Season 1, Episode 8 "The Acolyte," which is now streaming on Disney+.
The Acolyte has completed its run on Disney+, crafting an original Star Wars story that takes place in the age of the High Republic, one hundred years before the events of The Phantom Menace. While there may yet be a second season of the series, the first eight episodes give fans plenty to talk about in the interim.
Although The Acolyte drew plenty of heavy criticism in its first season (and before it even premiered), sensible viewers recognize the show's strengths and weaknesses. As such, certain episodes stand out as far superior to others.

In what will almost certainly go down as the best episode of The Acolyte (depending on how tonight's season finale goes), two popular supporting characters were killed off in shocking fashion - but that doesn't mean we won't see them again at some point.
If you're not up-to-date with the show yet, major spoilers follow.
Despite Jecki Lon (Dafne Keen) and Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) meeting an untimely end at the hands of The Stranger (Manny Jacinto) in "Night," showrunner Leslye Headland believes there's a good chance both Jedi could return to the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
"Yeah, definitely," Headland told Jedi News at a roundtable (via Total Film) when asked if Jecki and Yord's stories could be revisited down the line. "Pablo Hidalgo and I have talked about that, and since wrapping up the season, there's definitely some stuff that I would love to see come to fruition."

The following contains spoilers for Episode 7 of Star Wars: The Acolyte, now available on Disney +.
Episode 7 of The Acolyte has provided a glimpse into the Jedi Order's true stance on independent force users. Like The High Republic comic series, The Acolyte shows that the Jedi foster a respectful relationship with other force groups, as depicted in The High Republic comic series. The Jedi Order's tolerance of independent force users also lead to paranoia and prejudices towards the Brendok Coven.
When the third episode of Star Wars: The Acolyte was released, the Jedi were painted as somewhat hostile and suspicious of the Brendok Witch Coven in a manner that bordered on antagonism. However, now that the seventh episode of The Acolyte, titled 'Choice', has been released on Disney +, fans have learned that this wasnt the whole truth. In fact, the protocol the Jedi planned to follow was the exact opposite to what episode three implied,...

British star Jodie Turner-Smith has become the latest to join Showtime’s The Agency series.
The Queen & Slim and Acolyte star will play Sami Zahir, a professor of social anthropology who has a history with Martian, played by Michael Fassbender.
