Prime Video began production on its new series, Elle, and on April 2, Reese Witherspoon released a first-look photo of Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods.

When reporting on the series update, Deadline shared Prime Video commits to going back in time to tell Elle's past right: "You can tell they’ve gone back in time as the teen uses her clear phone to speak to her friends on a landline, as many did in the '90s. And in true Elle Woods fashion, she’s wearing a pink hoodie and surrounded by her pink bedding."

Viewers can expect a lot of pink attire, corded phones, and possibly some great dialogue. If they fully commit, the audience will be transported back to a different era of music and feel like we're in the Legally Blonde films with a younger spin.

Legally Blonde was a highly successful movie that spawned a sequel and a musical production. Now, the franchise is expanding with a prequel television series called Elle.

The series will tell the story of what Elle Woods got up to before she became the sorority sister who broke barriers at Harvard Law. The original Elle, Reese Witherspoon, who serves as executive producer for the new show, recently shared the first image of the 90s-set outing in a post on Instagram. The Legally Blonde franchise announced it would adapt a prequel series, Elle, on Amazon Prime Video. Prime ordered the series in May 2024 and began searching for a young and upcoming actress to play the teenage Elle Woods. After many months, they landed on their choice in February 2025, with the casting of Elle's parents following in March. Ten months into the process, the Legally Blonde prequel TV series has completed the Woods family trio.

There isn't much known about Elle Woods' parents, but there are brief scenes of them in the movies. We can assume they played crucial roles in Elle's teen years. Because their parts are essential, fans will expect great acting from the prequel's actors.

June Diane Raphael has joined the Amazon Prime Video project as Eva, joining the previously announced Lexi Minetree as Elle. The series follows a younger Elle Woods, who was played by Reese Witherspoon in the two “Legally Blonde” films, finding her footing in high school.

“Elle” is created by Laura Kittrell, who is an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon is executive producing the show through her Hello Sunshine banner, alongside Lauren Neustadter and Marc Platt. The first two episodes will be directed by Jason Moore. “Elle” is produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios.

The exciting news came directly from Witherspoon, who took to Instagram this morning to make the announcement. She captioned the post with:

As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this week, Minetree was one of the finalists competing for the role originally played by Witherspoon in the hit romantic comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003).

Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.

Creator Laura Kittrell is co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt also serve as executive producers.
