Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Trivia

Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Edit
  • After portraying the president of Ukraine for three years in his comedy series Servant of the People (2015), he was elected president of the country in 2019.
  • In March 2022, he made a speech appealing to Britain's parliament for aid during the war in Ukraine. Although a small number of foreign leaders including Charles de Gaulle and Nelson Mandela had previously been allowed to address gatherings of members of parliament, Zelenskyy was the first to speak to the chamber directly (by videolink, since he had refused to leave Kyiv).
  • President of Ukraine (2019-present).
  • An alternative spelling of his name, sometimes used, is "Volodymyr Zelensky".
  • Fifth Avenue in Harlow, Essex has officially become Zelenskyy Avenue, the UK's first road named after the President of Ukraine. Robert Halfon, Harlow's MP, said the town was an appropriate place to celebrate Ukraine's leader because "Harlow the new town emerged like a phoenix from the ashes" built for many displaced London families after World War Two.
  • Provided the Ukrainian voice for Paddington Bear for both Paddington (2014) and Paddington 2 (2017).
  • On 8 June 2022, accepted the Legend in Leadership Award from the Yale Chief Executive Leadership Institute; the award honors world leaders who leave an inspiring legacy, show heroism and influence cultures, industries or countries.
  • Named one of Leaders in the TIME 100 Most Influential People of 2022, as following. In President Zelensky, the people of Ukraine have a leader worthy of their bravery and resilience, as citizens across the country fight for their homes and their freedom. In his voice we hear the relentless determination of a man who believes profoundly in his duty to his people, and lives up daily to the solemn responsibility of leading his nation through this dark and difficult hour. The nations of the free world, inspired by the example of President Zelensky, are more united, more determined, and more purposeful than at any point in recent memory.
