Dr. Carol Pierce is facing an impossible decision as Brilliant Minds heads toward its fall finale. After realizing that her patient Alison Zhang-Whitaker was also the woman with whom her husband Morris was having an affair, Carol made the dangerous choice to continue treating Alison. The NBC medical drama brought everything to a head in Season 1, Episode 10, "The First Responder," in which Carol rushed to Alison's apartment -- only to find her unconscious.
How far can Carol possibly go? How hard will she work to save Alison, if Alison can be saved? And will this shocking development also be the undoing of Carol's career, considering that she'll be in a heap of trouble should it become public knowledge that she was knowingly continuing to treat her husband's mistress? The following contains major spoilers from Brilliant Minds Season 1, Episode 8, "The Lovesick Widow," which debuted Monday, Nov. 18 on NBC. It also contains discussion of sexual content.
Brilliant Minds Season 1, Episode 8, "The Lovesick Widow," is the NBC show's most uncomfortable episode -- in both good and bad ways. It features a wonderful performance by Susan Bay Nimoy, Leonard Nimoy's widow, as patient of the week June Sullivan. And it does make the audience think about what it means to get older, particularly in regards to sex and attraction. But it's never, ever comfortable to talk about sex. And more importantly, some of the choices made in this episode seem either strange or just out of character.
"The Lovesick Widow" revolves around June, who's been kicked out of her assisted living facility for sleeping around and other erratic behavior. Her adult sons bring her to Bronx General Hospital, worried that their...

Sebastian Stan will reprise his role as Bucky Barnes when Thunderbolts* hits screens in 2025. While the actor is excited about taking the Winter Soldier on a new journey, he would like to explore more of his backstory.
Speaking at Comic-Con Liverpool via Comic Basics, Stan talked about the MCU which prequels he would like to see. "We could probably do with a prequel before Captain America: The First Avenger, so we could really like learn, maybe more about [Steve and Bucky's] friendship," the actor said. "Or we can even do a prequel to before Captain America: The Winter Soldier where we're actually seeing what happened [to Bucky]. We never really explore that. Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf in ‘Brilliant Minds’ episode 7 (Photo by: Rafy/NBC)
NBC’s Brilliant Minds episode seven opens with a flashback of Roman (aka John) in Grozny, Chechnya, running from the authorities. Flash-forward to current events, and Roman’s able to acknowledge he can still hear Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto). Oliver explains they’re about to insert an electrode into his brain to allow him to communicate. It’s a risky surgery, but Roman indicates with his eye movements that he’s ready to move forward.
Oliver and the interns go over Roman’s medical history again, and it’s evident that multiple doctors at a dozen hospitals misdiagnosed his condition. Treating him for seizures instead of the early stages of a stroke meant that by putting him on Propofol he was sedated into oblivion. No one caught that he was actually suffering from locked-in syndrome until now.

Brilliant Minds just delivered one of its most powerful and bittersweet episodes yet. Here’s a look at everything that happened in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 7.

As soon as Dr. Wolf grew an attachment to John Doe, we knew that there would be some sort of hope for him. Wolf would do everything he could to help this patient, but he never expected the outcome to be the way it happened in this episode.

We’ve had a great run of new episodes of Brilliant Minds, NBC’s newest medical drama. Well, this is where the run stops. Brilliant Minds is taking its first break.
There isn’t a new episode of the Zachary Quinto drama tonight, Monday, Nov. 4. It’s bad news for those who have enjoyed the interesting and unique medical cases.
Why isn’t Brilliant Minds on NBC tonight?
To make matters worse, there isn’t even a rerun of the drama tonight. Instead, NBC is bringing us a Saturday Night Live special. It will focus on Election Night, which is tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 5. This makes sense, and I guess we can’t complain when elections are only once every four years.
It looks like the election coverage is just one of the reasons for the break. This could also be a great excuse to get a needed break in for scheduling purposes.

NBC’s Brilliant Minds episode five opens with Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) reflecting on coping mechanisms and how they help us make it through the day. Oliver’s voiceover tells us that sometimes our ghosts are visible to everyone. Other times, only we can see them.

Brilliant Minds has put so many rare and extraordinary diseases and conditions to the forefront of its show. The latest episode, “The Haunted Marine,” is no different.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 5.
One thing the series does is make it clear that a diagnosis does not give people a pass to act how they want. I would have loved to see a resolution for the bride in the previous episode, but it was pretty clear that she was going to get the book thrown at her by the police. She killed a man, and while Wolf could argue that it wasn’t murder, there are still lesser charges out there and he can’t find a way around them.
However, some episodes do focus on just helping a patient. That’s the case in the new episode, when a former Marine comes to the hospital for help.

Dr. Wolf has a case that isn’t as cut and dry as it would initially seem in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 5. This looks like it should be a case of Ptsd, so why is Wolf taking it?
There are many stories of veterans with Ptsd. It happens due to the things people see in a time of war. While that is terrible, it doesn’t seem like something Dr. Wolf would handle right away. There has to be something more to this case.
There’s a mysterious illness involved in Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 5
While the promo makes it look like this could be a case of Ptsd, the synopsis tells us that it is some sort of mysterious illness. What could this be? Did he suffer a knock to the head while he was serving leading to a brain injury? That would be another typical case for doctors when it comes to marines.

We know that Dr. Wolf has an unusual way of dealing with things in Brilliant Minds. We get to see just how far he’s willing to go in season 1, episode 4.
Wolf has an unusual way of dealing with all his patients. He wants to see the people and not the symptoms, and that means understanding how patients are. We see him go to the homes of patients or send his interns to their homes. There is a House element to this series, and it’s what makes this so great.
Now it’s time for a new episode, and this one arguably sees Wolf go too far in this episode, but it will make for a great dramedy moment.
Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 4 sees Wolf do something illegal
Look, Wolf doesn’t have any issues with breaking the law now and then. He also has no issue with doing something somewhat unethical.

Indeed, the second season of the streaming sci-fi series has been ordered, providing further interstellar adventures for mission leader Niko Breckinridge and her exploratory crew.
News of the renewal for Another Life Season 2 was confirmed by the show's star, Katee Sackhoff, with a social media video teaser that concluded with her delivered message. With that news set, Netflix’s second season pickup will see the series return with another set of 10 episodes, akin to the first season.

One thing the new mockumentary “Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein” does quite well is prove that there are perks to appearing on a streaming service’s signature hit.
David Harbour, the stolid and familiar presence from Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” is given the opportunity to cut loose here with a broad, loopy half-hour that feels a bit like one long comedy sketch, with all that implies. He’s evidently having a great deal of fun playing his fictional late father, a pompous theater actor who acted in his own play about Dr. Frankenstein and recorded the piece for posterity. But even half an hour is a generous amount of time to give to a story that feels, well, sketchy, with reversals whose pile-up is more novel than truly funny and with jokes that feel underwritten at best.
Harbour also plays himself in the present day, working to uncover more...

Bursts of insubordination from her crew is arguably the least of Commander Niko Breckinridge’s worries in this brand-new trailer for Netflix’s Another Life — the first such teaser to hint at what the upcoming sci-fi thriller is truly about.
Set for a Thursday, July 25 launch date and hailing from from Aaron Martin (Killjoys), Another Life follows Niko (played by Katee Sackhoff) as she and the crew of her space exploration ship, the Solvare, face unimaginable dangers — on what might very well be a one-way mission — as they seek out an alien world that has deposited a mysterious structure on Earth.

Stranger Things’ David Harbour plays his “father” in this Netflix mockumentary about an ill-fated Frankenstein TV play.
Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein is a title that will make a lot more sense if you accept the fact that “Frankenstein’s Monster” – not “Frankenstein” – is the actual name of Mary Shelley’s resurrected title character. Consequently, it will then become clear to you that this Netflix offering is not an adaptation of said story, but, rather, a mockumentary about a TV production of it, with which Stranger Things’ David Harbour creates an eccentric pseudo-history.
Indeed, Harbour briefly put aside his Stranger Things small town police chief Jim Hopper, to play, well, David Harbour – a fictionalized version of his “father,” named David Harbour Jr., an eccentric thespian resembling a late-life Orson Welles who, via 40-year-old lost footage, is depicted in the midst of a hilariously quixotic attempt to...

A review of tonight's The Americans season finale coming up just as soon as I watch the Super Bowl without you... "I think it's time." -Gabriel As Gabriel notes to Philip and Elizabeth in a scene that threatens to upend all of our expectations for the series' final two seasons, their assignment to America was never intended to be a permanent one. Plans were already underway to have William come home after delivering the Lassa virus to the Centre, and once he gets captured by the FBI, the risk to the Jennings family becomes so great that it makes more sense to send them all home — even if that "home" would be a foreign concept in every way to Paige and Henry — than to keep them in the field and risk their capture. With two seasons to go — and with Philip's son Mischa on his way to America to search...

Alex Ozerov understands upheaval.
The 23-year-old actor was born in Russia, moved to Ukraine when he was young, and when his parents divorced he settled in England with his mother. She eventually came to Canada and Ozerov had to wait three years before he was allowed to join her.
It was while living with his mom in Toronto that he saw something that changed his life.
“I was watching TV, the Disney Channel I think, and I saw these kids having so much fun and being so confident and secure with themselves on camera,” says Ozerov on the line from his apartment in Los Angeles. “I was like, ‘Wow!’ I was never a secure kid, never confident, my self-esteem was quite low with moving around a lot, so I saw those kids and I go, ‘Mom, I want to try this, I want to do this.’” That spark ignited an acting career.

Directed by David Bezmozgis
Canada, 2015
Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival
Mark (Alex Ozerov) is a typical suburban teenager. He doesn’t want to get a summer job (who needs one when selling pot will trump any minimum wage gig?), he parties with his friends, and he watches porn. When his uncle marries a Russian immigrant Mark and his new cousin Natasha (Sasha K. Gordon) start an unexpected, illicit relationship.
David Bezmozgis’ second feature tries to tackle a lot. Issues of the immigrant experience, Arab-Israeli conflict, and sex worker exploitation all come out, at least as background. Though the film bites off a lot, it’s really digestible in the simple conversations between Mark and Natasha. The two have a decent chemistry that easily transcends the rest of the movie, which is sometimes awash in cliché and clumsiness.
There are believability issues in the film. Sometimes it’s small and insignificant:...

Telefilm Canada has confirmed its financial support of nearly $13 million of Canadian tax payers' money towards the production of nine English-language feature films through the 'Canada Feature Film Fund', although there doesn't seem to be anything culturally 'Canadian' about most of their selections, other than the crews that will be working on them.
Among the films receiving money include a psycho horror with a demonic 'Santa Claus', a bio pic about a former Queen of Sweden, the 'relationship' between 'James Dean' and a photographer, a thriller involving a Satanic child abuse sex ring, and an inflatable Sex Doll drug smuggling story:
The films are "After the Ball" (Sean Garrity), "A Christmas Horror Story" (Steven Hoban, Grant Harvey, Brett Sullivan), "Aloft" (Claudia Llosa), "A Worthy Companion" (Jason Sanchez, Carlos Sanchez), "Life" (Anton Corbijn), "Regression" (Alejandro Amenabar), "Rest Home" (Michael Rowe), "The Girl King" (Mika Kaurismäki) and "Zoom" (Pedro Morelli...
