Sony Pictures has tapped 22 Jump Street writer Rodney Rothman to write and direct the studio's currently untitled all-female spin-off of their Jump Street franchise. We first reported on this project back in April 2015, when Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs were brought on to write the screenplay. Now the studio has brought on Rodney Rothman to not only work on the script, but also make his feature directorial debut.
Deadline reports that Rodney Rothman also recently turned in a draft of another spin-off, which brings the Jump Street and Men in Black franchises together. Back in August, Jump Street star Jonah Hill said that the crossover was "impossible," stating that he doubts that movie will get made. However, today's report states that the Jump Street/Men in Black crossover is actually still in development. Insiders claim that there will also be male characters involved in this story,...

Bringing an end to the radio silence, Sony Pictures has issued a statement of intent regarding the future of its lucrative Jump Street franchise.
Contrary to previous reports, the mooted crossover with Men in Black is still on the table, while Deadline reports that writer-director Rodney Rothman has been brought in to spearhead the female-led spinoff to 21 Jump Street.
Replacing Jenko and Schmidt with two leading ladies – rumored to be Dakota Johnson and Rye Rye’s ancillary characters from the 2012 original – there’s nary a mention of how the story will pan out. For instance, will it be a tit-for-tat remake? Or, in the more likely scenario, a spinoff that retains a similar formula to Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s wildly over-the-top actioner?
More News From The Web
One thing Deadline does reveal is that sources close to production say male characters will be involved in Rothman’s offshoot.

Dance music personality cult Bassnectar took the internet by storm this week, dropping a surprise announcement that a new album titled Unlimited would be released on June 3. While that release date has now been pushed back to June 17, the revered producer is making up for the delay by sharing four new cuts off the upcoming record, including one that features electronic trio The Glitch Mob.
“Reaching Out” kicks off the collection of new music, opening with dreamy arpeggios and squelchy bass sounds that lead into a trap section with hard hitting 808 beats. Bassnectar keeps things ethereal on “Reaching Out,” focusing on trippy sound design and mid range grooves to carry the track.
Elsewhere, Luzcid assists on “Music Is The Drug,” which features the same sort of hip-hop inspired rhythms from the last cut and should definitely leave fans pleased.

It looks like there are three new Jump Street movies in the works - including the female-headlined spin-off, that's just landed new writers.
Sony has a few different options ahead of it as it builds on the successes of Chris Miller and Phil Lord's 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street movies. We already know that the studio has put 23 Jump Street onto its docket, with a screenplay being worked on by Rodney Rothman. Rumours persist, too, of a Jump Street and Men In Black crossover movie.
And then there's the spin-off movie, that's going to focus primarily on female Jump Street characters. In particular on Fugazy and Jr Jr, as played by Dakota Johnson and Rye Rye in the first Jump Street movie.
The studio has now hired a pair of writing teams to pursue the project, with the aim being to go with the one that comes up with the most suitable script.

As is the case with all movies made by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, there are a ton of jokes and characters in 21 Jump Street that would seemingly lead you into a completey different movie if you just followed them for a little bit. You could make an entire movie about the history of, say, Ice Cube's hardass police captain, or the drug dealing motorcycle gang that gets infiltrated by Johnny Depp. Or, better yet, you could tell a whole side story involve the other two undercover cops already working out of the 21 Jump Street precinct, Fugazy and Jr. Jr. If you don't remember them, Fugazy and Jr. Jr. were the names of the two young female cops played by Dakota Johnson and Rye Rye who are busting criminals left and right while Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill's characters...

Though it has been written on the wall for some time, today Sony has confirmed via The Wrap that it plans to push ahead with the rumored female-led 21 Jump Street spinoff, not to mention the proposed crossover with the studio’s long-standing Men in Black franchise.
In accordance with yesterday’s report, the female-driven Jump Street spinoff will indeed be scripted by Broad City alum Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs, while Sony is yet to tap writers for the sci-fi crossover event. However, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have expressed their interest in the bizarre project, which would allegedly see Schmidt and Jenko venture into the sharp-suited world of MiB in order to investigate extra-terrestrial lifeforms.
It’s a bold concept, sure, but if 21 Jump Street poked fun at the incessant tendency to reboot old films and TV shows, while its sequel shifted the satirical lens to sequels, then a...

Cue another female-centered comedy spin-off.
It seems like Sony may want to spin-off another one of their comedy franchises with 21 Jump Street being the latest pick. Tracking Board reported on Tuesday (and it was later confirmed by The Wrap) that the studio has plans to spin-off the franchise with a female team. Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs of Broad City fame are set to pen the script.
This news comes after Sony already announced a female spin-off of Ghostbusters with Paul Feig directing and a cast that includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. This was followed by another male-centered sequel with 21 Jump Street star Channing Tatum rumored to star in it with the Russo brothers producing.

After delighting fans the world over with news of an all-female Ghostbusters film, Sony somewhat undercut the pre-emptive buzz by fast-tracking an all-male reboot of the the same property with the Russo brothers on board to direct. Fast forward a few months and its looks to be that the studio is planning the same tactic for its lucrative 21 Jump Street series – only in reverse.
With the characters of Schmidt and Jenko already well established on screen through both iterations, a report unearthed by the Tracking Board hints that Sony Pictures may be weighing up a potential all-female spinoff set within the Jump Street universe. The outlet stipulates that Broad City scribes Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs have been tapped, and that the adjacent project is currently incubating in the early stages of development.

Three elements were highly underrated from “21 Jump Street.": the score by Mark Mothersbaugh, the excellent theme song written by Mothersbaugh, and the overall soundtrack. In fact, it’s kind of crazy that no soundtrack was ever released considering the eclectic hits on it, but for some reason no disc or digital collection ever came out (but you can find all of the songs in the first movie here). But Columbia Pictures/MGM in association with Casablancas Records are learning from their mistakes, as a soundtrack disc for the sequel “22 Jump Street” is on the way. The first movie definitely had a chaotic alt/indie Edm feel to it and that’s pronounced even further in the sequel (in fact, the party-crazy Edm-y remix of Mothersbaugh’s said theme at the top of the movie kinda rules). The soundtrack will feature cuts by Wiz Khalifa, Duck Sauce, Tiesto, Steve Aoki...

Let's have a toast for Kanye West. Without him, Frank Ocean's "Super Rich Kids" probably wouldn't playing over the closing credits of Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring."
"Early on, we had got in touch with Kanye, and his response was, 'You've got to get this song 'Super Rich Kids' by Frank Ocean,'" Brian Reitzell, the "Bling Ring" music supervisor, told Rolling Stone in a new interview. "This was just before it had been released. I guess Kanye had heard it, and I kept trying to get it sent to me. Frank was just starting to blow up. He wanted to be involved in the movie, and then he had Coachella, and then it was 'Saturday Night Live' and his record, and bam, bam, bam. I couldn't get him over here, but eventually we heard the song and Kanye was right. It was absolutely perfect."

"The Bling Ring" features unruly teenagers robbing the homes of A-list celebrities, so it's only appropriate that the movie's soundtrack presents a lineup of A-list musical acts to underscore the glamorous film.
Sofia Coppola's highly anticipated feature, based on a string of true-life robberies that took place in the homes of Los Angeles celebs, premiered Wednesday at the Cannes Film Festival. The music used throughout comprises a fitting ode to wannabe glamor -- Kanye West's "Power," Sleigh Bells' "Crown on the Ground" and 2 Chainz's "Money Machine" are just a few of the tracks that round out the collection. A track from Coppola's husband's band Phoenix also made the soundtrack's shortlist.
Even more fitting is the song selected to close "The Bling Ring": Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt's collaboration "Super Rich Kids." Part of the song's refrain finds Ocean singing, "The maids come around too much...
