From Die HardtoUnbreakable, Pulp Fiction, Sin City, and many more, Bruce Willishas been a part of numerous big-budget, hugely successful movie projects across his 40-year career. Starting life as a leading man in comedy and drama movies, Willis' move to the action realm saw him shoot into superstardom, keeping him as one of the headline names in Hollywood until his illness-induced retirement just three years ago.
In the latter years of his career, Willis starred in a smorgasbord of direct-to-video releases, most of which were in the action genre, and almost all went entirely under the global radar. Well, three years later, one of these movies has found unlikely streaming success, with 2022's Gasoline Alley joining the list of the ten most-streamed movies on Paramount+ in America, as of July 8, 2025, per FlixPatrol. Following in the blood-drenched footsteps of such mild-mannered action heroes as Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody, your new favorite genre icon has arrived...and it’s not who we expected. Taking the lead in the newly released trailer for the upcoming action outing Guns Up (which you can check out below) is none other than Grown Ups star and Adam Sandler’s pal and frequent collaborator Kevin James, who channels modern action legend John Wick to protect his family when he finds himself the target of the mob.
We now live in a world where Christina Ricci is playing Kevin James’ love interest, but he’s far and away from the sitcom schlub he was in King of Queens. Instead, James is now doing his best Baba Yaga as he raises arms against the criminals after him and his family. And it comes with some surprisingly brutal results.

"Is dad John Wick?" Vertical has unveiled an official US trailer for the action comedy movie starring Kevin James called Guns Up, set to open in July this summer. We already posted the international trailer for this a few months ago. It's the latest action movie creation made by director Edward Drake. A family-man ex-cop now moonlighting as a henchman for the mob has one night to get his family out of the city – and keep his dark secret hidden from his kids – after a job goes wrong. Kevin James stars as Ray Hayes, who was working as a mob thug and now needs to get his family to safety. Here's a tidbit from IMDb trivia: "Kevin James has stated that he got the inspiration for his performance by watching French bulldogs try to jump up on a couch. When they kept falling and were unable to get up, he...

Kevin James is a henchman trying to quit the mob in the first trailer for Guns Up. The movie marks the actor's return to the action genre after having played neo-Nazi leader Dominick five years earlier in Becky.
As the Guns Up trailer shows, quitting the mob is easier said than done, as James' character's final job goes off the rails. "With the clock ticking, the ex-cop has one night to get his unsuspecting family out of the city before he gets snuffed out," reads the synopsis for the action movie. The trailer features James' Ray Hayes showcasing his lethal skills, which leads to his son questioning whether he's "John Wick," the beloved assassin from the franchise of the same name, played by Keanu Reeves. However, after Ray's wife, Audrey (Christina Ricci), takes care of a few mob men herself, their daughter remarks to her brother that their dad "married John Wick.

In the new action movie Guns Up, Kevin can't wait...to kill you. Beloved sitcom shlub Kevin James is a family man by day, and a hired killer by night in the new trailer for the action comedy. Also taking an uncharacteristic action role in the film is Christina Ricci, playing James' wife. Guns Up will be released on July 18.
In the trailer, James plays Ray Hayes, a loving husband to Alice (Ricci) and gentle father to Henry and Siobhan. He puts food on the table by acting as "New Jersey's #1 collector of debts" for the local crime bosses, but not for much longer; he's planning to leave his life of crime behind and open up a retro-style diner. Unfortunately, his last job goes horribly wrong, and soon he's on the run from every wiseguy in the state, forcing him to reveal his double life to his kids as they...

Updated with statement from Tim Doyle: WGA members on Friday overturned a 2024 censure of Tim Doyle for posting a “racist and offensive depiction of a lynching” on Facebook, Deadline has confirmed.
“I was genuinely surprised by the win and moved by the level of support I received from the rank and file membership,” Doyle, , the longtime showrunner whose credits include Rules of Engagement, Last Man Standing and Better Off Ted, tells Deadline. “I think they recognized overreach by the WGA Board of Directors and pushed back against it.”
An email that went out to members said “a majority of current members in good standing who voted adopted the alternative action proposed by Doyle by a vote of 915 to 557: overturn the board’s discipline (public censure).”

The members of the Writers Guild of America West voted on Friday to uphold the expulsion of two writers accused of writing during the 2023 strike, but to rescind a public rebuke of a writer who made a joke on Facebook.
The WGA West board voted earlier this year to kick out Roma Roth and Edward Drake for performing forbidden “writing services” — what the union calls “scab writing” — during the 148-day strike. They appealed, but 54% of the voting membership backed the board’s decision in a tally that concluded on Friday.
Edward John Drake, Roma Roth and Julie Bush were accused of prohibited writing activities during the stoppage, while Tim Doyle was censured for an offensive social media post that compared being on strike to being lynched.

On a 62%-38% vote, the members rejected the public censure of Tim Doyle, who had faced a charge of conduct “prejudicial to the welfare of the Guild” for making an off-color joke. On the 100th day of the strike, Doyle posted a silhouette of a man hanging from a tree, in what was meant to be a morbid reference to his own suicide.

Did the Writers Guild of America West board of directors go too far in disciplining members that allegedly broke the rules of its 2023 strike? Or did it appropriately respond to actions that threatened the union and its members?
Union members answered that question with a mixed response on Thursday in a vote that upheld three out of four punishments. Discipline was upheld after very tight results in the case of Julie Bush (745 to 686), Edward Drake (769 to 652) and Roma Roth (778 to 639). Doyle’s punishment was overturned and an alternative action taken after members voted 915 to 557.
Out of seven writers disciplined for allegedly breaking the WGA’s strike rules, Bush, Drake, Doyle and Roth had all chosen to appeal their punishments. The punishments handed down to the three other disciplined writers remain unknown.

Members of the Writers Guild of America West are engaged in unusual vote this week on whether to banish two of their own — Roma Roth and Edward Drake — for allegedly performing “writing services” during the 2023 strike.
The membership is also being asked to uphold disciplinary moves against two others, Julie Bush and Tim Doyle, that fall short of expulsion. The vote will conclude at 2 p.m. on Friday.
In an email to members on Wednesday, WGA Board Member Rob Forman acknowledged that it’s an awkward situation.
“I know it’s deeply uncomfortable to vote on disciplining other writers, especially during this horrible contraction,” he wrote.
But, he urged the membership to “join me in holding these writers accountable” for breaking guild rules, “and reject the disciplined members’ excuses for hurting the Guild by turning their backs on their fellow writers during the strike.”
A vote of this kind is extremely rare.

The Writers Guild of America has asked its members to affirm disciplinary actions against four writers accused of breaking union rules during the 2023 strike, with a vote on their appeals scheduled for mid-May, according to media reports.
Edward John Drake, Roma Roth, and Julie Bush are accused of prohibited writing activities during the stoppage, while Tim Doyle faces censure for an offensive social media post. The WGA West board voted last week to expel Drake and Roth, the guild’s harshest penalty. Bush was temporarily suspended and given a lifetime ban from serving as a strike captain. Doyle was publicly censured.
“Every Guild member knows what it means when there’s a strike: pencils down,” the board wrote in its appeal to members, Variety first reported Saturday. “[Drake] did not go pencils down during the strike.” Guild leadership did not immediately respond Saturday to a request for comment.

The Writers Guild of America asked members on Friday to uphold disciplinary actions against four of their brethren who are accused of violating guild rules during the 2023 strike.
Three of the writers — Edward John Drake, Roma Roth and Julie Bush — are accused of performing forbidden “writing services” in violation of union solidarity. A fourth member, Tim Doyle, is accused of making an off-color joke in a Facebook group of fellow writers.
The WGA West board voted to expel Drake and Roth, the severest form of punishment for guild rule violations. Bush was given a temporary suspension and a lifetime ban on serving as a strike captain, while Doyle was given a public censure.
All four are appealing the discipline to the general membership. Three other members, who were not identified, were also found guilty by trial committees of writing during the strike. Those members elected not to appeal.

Nearly two years ago, at the outset of the first writers’ strike in 15 years, Edward Drake made some adjustments to the script of the low-budget indie he was directing in the interest of the safety and welfare of his cast and crew. Nearly a year later, his union expelled him after a discipline procedure that he claims violated the union’s own constitution and federal labor law.
That’s according to an appeal letter of the decision from Drake that became accessible to members of the Writers Guild of America on Friday, alongside the union’s position statement and reply to Drake’s allegations, painting a starkly different account of the situation. Drake is one of four WGA West members pursuing an appeal in a bid to change their situations. The Writers Guild of America West on Friday publicly announced disciplinary action against six members for alleged unauthorized work during the union’s 2023 strike, as well as one additional member for an alleged violation of the guild’s constitution.
Four of those disciplined, which the Wgaw named in a memo to members today, are appealing the decision.
Julie Bush, Tim Doyle, Edward Drake and Roma Roth are all pushing back against the union board’s disciplinary rulings, which were determined via hearings before five-member trial juries. Bush, Drake and Roth are accused of writing during the strike.

The Writers Guild of America West has gone public with its discipline of six union members for allegedly writing during the labor group’s 2023 strike and one for a purported constitutional violation, a move that four writers have appealed, with one saying he was “punished for being transparent.”

Bruce Willis is one of the all-time great movie stars, a guy who could fill theater seats with a sarcastic one-liner and a charming but grumpy grin. Over the years he starred in all kinds of films, from zany dark comedies like "The Whole Nine Yards" to the Christmas action classic "Die Hard," but towards the end of his career, it seemed as if he was just putting out as much as he could without paying much attention to quality. It was a move that initially came under fire from fans before Willis's family announced his retirement in March of 2022 due to a diagnosis of aphasia, a condition that causes progressive cognitive decline. Though there were some questions as to whether Willis wanted to do these films to save up for retirement and help his family or whether he was being taken advantage of, otherwise the movies from this...

After over 40 years of making movies, Bruce Willis has announced his retirement ending his career with what should've been a perfect final film, but Bruce Willis' last movie was anything but. Landing his first part in 1980, Willis has appeared on screens big and small nearly 150 times, becoming one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood. With Willis retiring due to aphasia, 2022's Paradise City was supposed to be the perfect bon voyage, but ultimately let the legend down.

The ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike casts a cloud over what otherwise promises to be a solid Cannes film market. Most buyers and sellers came out of Berlin this year “cautiously optimistic” as the (partial) resurgence of the theatrical market alongside a slowly but steadily growing digital ancillary business offers reason to believe reports of the death of the indie industry — widespread in the wake of the Covid theater shutdowns — have been greatly exaggerated.
“I see the investment by Amazon and Apple TV in the theatrical business as a real positive,” says David Garrett of Mister Smith Entertainment, “because it shows they recognize the real value of the theatrical experience.” Amazon’s success with Ben Affleck’s sports-marketing biopic Air, which grossed upwards of $80 million worldwide in theaters before going out online, bodes well for the upcoming rollout of Apple’s Cannes title Killers of the Flower Moon from Martin Scorsese,...

In one of his last movie performances, actor Bruce Willis stars in the action feature “Detective Knight: Rogue”, directed by Edward John Drake, now available as VOD and in limited theater engagements:
“…in Los Angeles, four masked men robbed a truck full of cash. After the police arrive, the criminals steal a car from a nearby parking lot.
"However, the police corner the group, resulting in one of the robbers firing blindly at them. ‘Detective Knight’ (Willis) and his partner ‘Fitz’ exchange fire with the criminals, resulting in Fitz getting severely wounded. In the chaos, the robbers flee the scene.
“While Fitz is taken to the hospital, the robbers escape to New York City on a private plane. The robbers are revealed to be ‘Casey’ leader of the crew; “Mercer’, the hot-head of the group; ‘Mike’, Casey's best friend; and ‘Sykes’ the girl with the most intelligence among the group.

Detective Knight: Independence completes the trilogy begun in Detective Knight: Rogue and continued in Detective Knight: Redemption. Although not the last of his films to be released, Assassin is slated for release in March, these were the last ones Bruce Willis made before announcing his retirement. So in a sense, it also concludes its star’s career.
The film opens with a bank robbery shot from the Pov of the robbers making it look like a first-person shooter, be sure to get the tie-in edition of Bank Robber Simulator at your local Gamestop. The robbery comes to a bloody end with Detective Knight (Bruce Willis) shooting the last of the gang while he holds a woman hostage.
Also on the scene are paramedics Dezi and Ally.

Detective Knight: Independence is written and directed by Edward Drake starring Bruce Willis and Lochlyn Munro.
Bruce Willis is back in one of his latest successes, repeating the role that made him famous: a police officer.
This sequel is a thriller with some interesting formulas such as the divided screen (a là Brian De Palma), but the story is more traditional, with lots of hand-held camera, realistic photography and a plot that is always as expected.
About the Movie Detective Knight: Independence
We love Bruce Willis and we grew up watching his movies and laughing at his jokes. These last (we repeat) no longer include jokes and, although he is at the head of the cast, is no longer the main character, he is more of a secondary figure, a star to watch in B Series movies, action thrillers that are rather de-caffeinated like this one, have action scenes that,...

Screen Rant is excited to present an exclusive clip from the final installment in the Detective Knight trilogy, Detective Knight: Independence. Detective Knight (Bruce Willis) is back on the case after earning back his freedom and badge in Detective Knight: Redemption. Knight will once again have the weight of a city on his shoulders. In Detective Knight: Independence, a rogue vigilante gets his hands on a police uniform, gun, and Emt vehicle and begins terrorizing the city. Knight must catch this vigilante killer not just to save the city but his family as well.
Detective Knight's story began with Detective Knight: Rogue, in which the titular detective hunts a violent robbery crew from Los Angeles to New York after they nearly kill his partner, Eric Fitzgerald. The actions he takes cross a line and lose him both his badge and his freedom. However, he is given a chance to earn...

"We justice fails, in Knight we trust." Lionsgate has revealed one more trailer for the final film in this action thriller trilogy - this one is called Detective Knight: Independence, from filmmaker Edward Drake. This is the third and final film in the Detective Knight series, all featuring Willis as a Detective. I keep hoping all these bad Bruce Willis movies are done, considering his health, but nope there's always more. Bruce Willis stars as Detective James Knight in this final, tense chapter of the trilogy. Knight's last-minute assignment to the Independence Day shift turns into a race to stop an unbalanced ambulance Emt from ruining the day. The misguided vigilante, playing cop with a stolen gun and uniform, has a bank vault full of reasons to put on his own fireworks show… one that will strike dangerously close to Knight’s home. The cast also includes Jack Kilmer,...

Movie icons and Pulp Fiction costars Bruce Willis and John Travolta reunite and face off in Chuck Russell’s latest action-packed thriller, Paradise City. Collaborating with Russell for a second time, Travolta plays power broker Buckley, tapping into his menacing and conman skills once again on the big screen. For Willis, his role as bounty hunter Ian Swan comes almost a year prior to his public Aphasia diagnosis. Opposite the two action film veterans are Blake Jenner and Praya Lundberg. With such a star-studded cast, it’s easy to see why director Chuck Russell wanted them all in a fast-paced and fun action feature. It doesn’t always overcome its hurdles, but Paradise City keeps the entertainment flowing thanks to a committed cast.

The trailer for the new Bruce Willis action vehicle titled Detective Knight: Rogue has been released by Lionsgate. This film looks to be yet another lower-budgeted direct-to-video release for the action star, except this one might be part of an already shot trilogy? In it, Willis plays a Los Angeles cop that sees an uptick in bank robberies in the city from an elite group of thieves.
The synopsis on the IMDb is what suggests the movie may be the first instalment of a trilogy:
Bruce Willis stars as veteran Detective James Knight, dedicated to navigating the demanding streets of Los Angeles, in this thrilling first of a trilogy of films. As the city prepares for Halloween, mask-wearing armed robbers critically wound Knight’s partner in a shootout following a heist. When Jimmy Jayne is the only suspect in the gruesome deaths of four women, the disaffected ex-con sets out to clear his name by plunging headfirst into the criminal world he'd managed to escape.
Devon Sawa is the beleaguered Jimmy. The film, by director Edward Drake, is Gasoline Alley.
If that title brings to mind black and white noir films of the past, it's no coincidence.
Drake set out to make a neo-noir set in a version of Los Angeles about how far men will go when pushed to their limits.
Tattoo artist Jimmy drives a classic Chevelle muscle car and sports rockabilly shirts, smoking continuously. Most of what is said on screen is through actions and mood, and Sawa captures it effortlessly.
Luke Wilson and Bruce Willis are detectives Vargas and Freeman, and like Jimmy, they're not easy to pin down.

Bruce Willis has been very busy of late making films like they are going out of fashion. With at least a dozen releases planned for 2022, Gasoline Alley is the second for him with writer-director Edward Drake, after last year’s action-drama American Siege. Their third collaboration and the yet-unscheduled Paradise City is still in post-production and stars Pulp Fiction’s John Travolta. Perhaps all this high-volume VOD film-making provides an outlet for the Die Hard star to team up with ‘old screen pals’ again, while sharing the frame with new ones?
In gritty noir-ish crime thriller Gasoline Alley, Willis stars alongside Luke Wilson and Final Destination‘s Devon Sawa. However technically, Willis is hardly in it to warrant headlining status, something fans will be disappointed with if they are expecting a silver-haired version of cop John McClane.

"I've got someone trying to pin a bunch of murders on me..." "In broad daylight?" Another month, another Bruce Willis movie. Make it stop!! Saban + Paramount have revealed an official trailer for Gasoline Alley, another boring Los Angeles crime thriller rehashing the same plot for the 5000th time. Some people were found dead, the cops think it was this guy, he says he's being framed. Yadda yadda. A man implicated in a triple homicide begins his own investigation. He enlists the two detectives on his tail in order to expose a conspiracy, or whatever. Starring Devon Sawa, Bruce Willis, and Luke Wilson, with Kat Foster, Sufe Bradshaw, Johnny Dowers, Kenny Wormald, Rick Salomon, Steve Eastin, Tracey "The Doc" Curry. This looks so bad. I wish Bruce would just stop making these, we really don't need them anymore... Here's the official trailer (+ poster) Edward Drake's Gasoline Alley, direct from YouTube: Bruce Willis,...

"I'm the Sheriff of this county." "Don't forget who put you there." Vertical Entertainment has released the official trailer for American Siege, another of these junk Bruce Willis action movies he has been making non-stop for the last few years. This is from the same director as Broil and Cosmic Sin and Apex - all films which I hope none of you have paid to see. Bruce Willis co-stars with Timothy V. Murphy, plus Rob Gough, Anna Hindman, Johann Urb, Cullen G. Chambers, and Trevor Gretzky. This looks excruciatingly bad... And the only reason we keep featuring these Willis trailers is just to gawk at how awful they are + laugh at this absurdity. Here's the official trailer (+ poster...
