On a 62%-38% vote, the members rejected the public censure of Tim Doyle, who had faced a charge of conduct “prejudicial to the welfare of the Guild” for making an off-color joke. On the 100th day of the strike, Doyle posted a silhouette of a man hanging from a tree, in what was meant to be a morbid reference to his own suicide.

Did the Writers Guild of America West board of directors go too far in disciplining members that allegedly broke the rules of its 2023 strike? Or did it appropriately respond to actions that threatened the union and its members?

Union members answered that question with a mixed response on Thursday in a vote that upheld three out of four punishments. Although not the last of his films to be released, Assassin is slated for release in March, these were the last ones Bruce Willis made before announcing his retirement. This film looks to be yet another lower-budgeted direct-to-video release for the action star, except this one might be part of an already shot trilogy? With at least a dozen releases planned for 2022, Gasoline Alley is the second for him with writer-director Edward Drake, after last year’s action-drama American Siege. Their third collaboration and the yet-unscheduled Paradise City is still in post-production and stars Pulp Fiction’s John Travolta. Perhaps all this high-volume VOD film-making provides an outlet for the Die Hard star to team up with ‘old screen pals’ again, while sharing the frame with new ones?
