Kristin Scott Thomas is stepping behind the camera for the first time, directing My Mother’s Wedding, a film she co-wrote with her husband, John Micklethwait. Inspired by her own family’s experiences, the story centers on three sisters who return home for their mother’s third wedding.
Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham, and Scarlett Johansson lead the cast, with Scott Thomas herself playing the mother, Diana Frost. Each daughter has a very different life—one is a nurse, another a Hollywood actress, and the third a Royal Navy officer.
As they gather for the big day, old wounds resurface, and the family is forced to confront their past. Unexpected wedding guests only add to the chaos.
This marks the third time Scott Thomas and Johansson have played mother and daughter on screen, following The Horse Whisperer (1998) and The Other Boleyn Girl (2008).

We all know how a superhero costume should look in a movie courtesy of Edna Mode: Bold, dramatic, heroic!
But “The Franchise” shows us just how much it takes to get a costume looking right because the on-set suits that both Tecto (Billy Magnussen as Adam) and Eye (Richard E. Grant as Peter) wear — when they’re not sniping at each other in puffy coats, of course — look foamy, fake, and just a little bit wrong. Series costume designers Michele Clapton and Sinéad Kidao turn their very sharp eyes to both the in-universe film the characters are trying to make and the ecosystem of film sets and the fashion choices of various departments.

“Joy” has been a much-used title in recent years, one that a new film about the battle to develop in-vitro fertilization treatment justifies recycling once more with a late-film reveal: It was the middle name given to Louise Joy Brown, the world’s first so-called “test-tube baby,” and the first successful outcome in over a decade of agonized, controversial medical research. But joy is also the primary Mo of this debut feature from British TV comedy director Ben Taylor, which assigns itself the somewhat tricky task of fashioning an uplifting audience-pleaser from story material in which moments of elation are considerably outnumbered by those of crushing heartbreak.

Helen Mirren undergoes extensive prosthetic makeup and wears a bodysuit to accurately portray Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in the biopic Golda. The prosthetic makeup and bodysuit were designed to give the essence of Meir without appearing like a caricature. Mirren's casting initially faced backlash for not being of Jewish heritage, but director Guy Nattiv, who is Jewish, felt she was the right fit for the role and the controversy did not deter Mirren from taking on the part.
The acclaimed actor Helen Mirren stars as Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in the wartime drama biopic Golda, which takes place during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Meir was the fourth Pm of Israel and the first female head of government. To accurately depict the 75-year-old leader, Mirren had to undergo two hours of prosthetic makeup and dress in a bodysuit every day of filming. Special effects makeup designer Karen Hartley Thomas has explained the process,...

The first look image from My Mother’s Wedding, the directorial debut from Kristin Scott Thomas, has been released. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, and Emily Beecham.
Principle photography on the film — which Scott Thomas co-wrote with John Micklethwait — has been completed. The film follows the story of three sisters who return to their childhood home for the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother, Diana. The three daughters now lead very different lives: Georgina, a palliative nurse; Victoria, a Hollywood star; and Katherine, a captain in the Royal Navy. Over the weekend, the family gathers to celebrate a new marriage, but mother and daughters alike are forced to revisit the past and confront the future, with help from a colorful group of unexpected wedding guests.
The cast includes Academy award nominee Scarlett Johansson, BAFTA award nominee Sienna Miller, and Cannes Best Actress winner Emily Beecham, who play the sisters. Academy award nominee and BAFTA award-winner Scott Thomas plays Diana Frost, their mother.
This marks the third time Scott Thomas and Johansson have played mother and daughter since 1998’s The Horse Whisperer.
“I have wanted to direct for a long time and it was thrilling to create this fictional family using my own childhood memories as a springboard,” said Kristin Scott Thomas. “Directing and acting with such talented actresses and reuniting with Scarlett Johansson has been exhilarating.”
The cast is filled out by BAFTA award nominee, Freida Pinto, Sindhu Vee, Joshua McGuire, Mark Stanley, Thibault de Montalembert and Samson Kayo.
Additional credits include director of photography Yves Belanger, BAFTA award-winning Production Designer Andrew McAlpine, Casting Director Lucy Bevan, Editor Gary Dollner, Costume Designer Sinead Kidao, and Academy award nominated Hair and Make-Up Designer Daniel Phillips.
CAA Media Finance, which arranged financing for the film, represents domestic rights.

Amazon has joined BBC One in producing a TV adaptation of Nancy Mitford’s “Pursuit of Love,” starring Lily James, Emily Beecham, Dominic West and Andrew Scott. The series, which has begun filming in the U.K. after being delayed by the pandemic, is being adapted by Emily Mortimer, who will also direct and star on the show.
The three-episode hour-long series is one of the first to start shooting in the U.K. following the months-long, Covid-forced shutdown.
“The Pursuit of Love” is “a romantic comedy-drama about love and friendship,” per Amazon. “Set in Europe between the two World Wars, the story follows the adventures and misadventures of the charismatic and fearless Linda Radlett, played by Lily James and her best friend and cousin Fanny Logan, played by Emily Beecham.”
