Developer The Astronauts have announced a new Early Access update for their dark fantasy shooter Witchfire in the Ghost Galleon Update. In addition to quality-of-life features, the update introduces “soul-style classes”, vault raids, weapons, and new Calamities.
Alongside the new features in the update, The Astronauts team has implemented careful redesigns of Witchfire‘s level progression and Calamity systems, based on Early Access feedback. Players will begin the game with souls-style classes, granting boosts to certain stats and unique gear. Those classes include Slayer, Berserker, Hunter, Shadow, Saint and Penitent, with Penitent giving Witchfire veterans an extra challenge.
A new feature, called Gnosis, will allow players to “over-level” (slightly) without a corresponding uptick in enemy difficulty. Gnosis is the understanding of dark magic. As this occult knowledge expands, players gain power and uncover hidden paths and events in the game. The update also adds a Calamity Meter on the Hud,...

After more than five years since it was first announced back at The Game Awards 2017, and a couple of delays, The Astronauts’ dark fantasy shooter Witchfire will finally enter Early Access on the Epic Games Store this Fall. The game’s September 20 release date accompanies a new trailer released during Summer Game Fest.
From the creators of Painkiller and Bulletstorm, Witchfire is a first-person shooter set in a grimdark fantasy world in which a deadly war rages between powerful witches and the Church. In this alternate reality, witches are very real and very dangerous— but so is the witch hunter, also known as a “preyer”. Armed by Vatican sorcerers, players wield an ungodly array of guns and forbidden magic as they combat dark terrors on behalf of their shadowy benefactors.

Over the weekend, IGN Fan Fest included several new trailers and announcements, including developer Bloober Team announcing that their upcoming Layers of Fear (originally titled Layers of Fears) will arrive this Summer. This was in addition to the announcements for Redfall, Diablo IV, Lies of P and more.
For starters, Layers of Fear, a “reimagination” of the previous three games in the series, will arrive for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series this June. Accompanying the announcement is a “release time reveal” trailer that shows off the upcoming game’s spooky visuals, while also touting the new additions.
Meanwhile, Arkane’s Redfall (which is coming this May) received a Q&a video from production director Ben Horne, who did a deep dive into the details of the game. In addition, the upcoming vampire shooter received a new trailer providing more gameplay, as well as a look at the game’s open world.

Originally announced for a Q4 2022 release in Early Access, The Astronauts’ dark fantasy RPG Witchfire has now had its release pushed to “early 2023”. According to The Astronauts’ Creative Director and Co-Founder, Adrian Chmielarz, the reason for the delay is due to “an upgrade to Witchfire’s combat system from arena-style to open-world fighting.”
In a Witchfire Wednesday blog post, Chmielarz elaborated, saying that Witchfire is still a rogue-lite dark fantasy first person shooter. However, “the way the player experiences the world has changed significantly.” As a result, the team has “upgraded combat and exploration from arena style to semi-open world style”.
So what’s that all about, you ask?
“Originally, Witchfire offered you these vast regions to play through in a specific, very rogue-lite way,” explains Chmielarz. ” You enter an area, fight some monsters, and then have a choice: take this reward and go left, or take that reward and go right.
