John Grisham‘s beloved novel The Rainmaker is being turned into a USA Network television show and we have photos from set!

Milo Callaghan and P.J. Byrne were spotted on the set of the upcoming TV show on Thursday (January 9) in Dublin, Ireland.

Here is USA’s official synopsis of the show: “Fresh out of law school, Rudy Baylor (Callaghan) goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond (John Slattery) as well as his law school girlfriend (Madison Iseman). Rudy, along with his boss and her disheveled paralegal, uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.”

Lana Parrilla and Dan Fogler will also star in the series.

Milo was most recently seen in the Disney+ series Rivals and the movie The Strangers: Chapter 1.

Fans can enjoy a beloved Francis Ford Coppola legal drama movie on a major streaming platform. 1997's The Rainmaker, starring Matt Damon, has arrived on Paramount+ as of December 1.

Based on John Grisham's 1995 novel of the same name, The Rainmaker follows Damon's Rudy S. Baylor, a young and idealistic Memphis State University Law School grad who takes on a corrupt insurance company. The film has a stacked cast, which includes Mickey Rourke as J. Lyman "Bruiser" Stone, a determined and successful ambulance chaser who hires Rudy. Danny DeVito plays Deck Shifflet, a former insurance adjuster of questionable ethics who works with Bruiser and Rudy. I am dead, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress said, per Deadline. Gellars character, beauty queen Helen Shivers, faced a violent death in the 1997 teen-horror-slasher movie.

Gellar, however, will be tangentially connected to the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel via her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr. who is coming back for the sequel as Roy Bronson, the character he played in the original. In that film, the story follows four friends, played by Prinze Jr., Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ryan Phillippe, who are being stalked by a man wielding a hook. “The Rainmaker” series adaptation at USA Network has added Wade Briggs in a series regular role, Variety has learned exclusively.

Based on the John Grisham novel of the same name, the show was picked up at the basic cabler back in June. Briggs will appear alongside previously announced cast member Milo Callaghan, John Slattery, Madison Iseman, Lana Parrilla, P.J. Byrne, Robyn Cara, and Dan Fogler.

Exclusive: Freddie Prinze Jr has officially joined Sony’s I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel film, reprising the role of Ray Bronson from the original 1997 movie and its 1998 follow-up, sources reveal to Deadline.

Deadline revealed Prinze Jr and his co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt were negotiating to return for the franchise continuation project when it was confirmed to be in development in early 2023. Hewitt is still very much in negotiations to reprise the role of Julie James, we hear.

An exciting John Grisham adaptation is filling up its call sheet as Madison Iseman of Prime Video's original horror thriller series, I Know What You Did Last Summer, has been cast in a series regular role for The Rainmaker, per Deadline. The legal drama series was recently set in development at USA Network and is based on the beloved Grisham novel of the same name. This will mark the second time the material is being adapted for the screens as the same novel equally served as the inspiration behind Francis Ford Coppola's 1997 movie that featured a stacked cast including Matt Damon, Danny DeVito, Claire Danes, Mickey Rourke, and Jon Voight.

Madison Iseman has been cast as Sarah Plankmore in “The Rainmaker” series at USA Network.

The official logline for the series states, “Fresh out of law school, Rudy Baylor goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond (John Slattery) and his law school girlfriend. Rudy, along with his boss and her disheveled paralegal, uncovers two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.”

Plankmore is described as a recent law school graduate and Rudy’s girlfriend in a show that was initially picked up at the cabler in June and is based on the iconic John Grisham novel of the same name.

The role of Rudy Baylor has yet to be cast.

Review: Few films in the horror genre are more entertaining than The Blob and A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. They bring a great mix of over-the-top violence with humor. So I was ecstatic to see writer/director Chuck Russell make his return to the genre for the first time in nearly 25 years. Setting his sights on updating the 1986 film Witchboard, which itself was a play on the popular Ouija board, this seems prime for the modern era. So, it’s upsetting for me to say that 2024’s Witchboard is a bit of a mess.

After helming some of the most significant practical effect horror films of the ’80s, writer/director Chuck Russell returns to the genre for the first time in twenty years with Witchboard (2024).

Ostensibly a remake of Kevin Tenney’s 1986 film of the same name, the new film adopts a few key elements of the original, including a shower set piece, the possession of its female lead, and a board used to communicate with the dead, but, aside from that, the 2024 film is mostly doing its own thing.

Witchboard opens with a prologue set in 1693 France as Bishop Grogan (David La Haye) battles witch Naga Soth (Antonia Desplat) and her coven in the woods. What jumps out immediately is the evocative set design, including a tree filled with amputated hands, and the exciting action as the cavalry arrives with guns blazing just in time.

Over his 40-year career, director Chuck Russell has had a knack for turning hungry young talent into movie stars, regularly conjuring memorable performances. He advocated for Patricia Arquette to be the lead in her first film role, 1987’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.” He made Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz household names in his 1994 blockbuster “The Mask” — knowing Diaz was perfect even though it was her first movie. And he helped transition Dwayne Johnson from wrestling to the acting world by having him star in the 2002 epic “The Scorpion King.”

No matter the genre, scope or budget, Russell loves seeing what raw talent can achieve — a fascination he picked up while cutting his teeth in the world of theater.

“We have to humanize these things, whether it’s action or comedy or drama,” he says. “You gotta get into your performers’ heads. You gotta get their actual personality into their performances.

Exclusive: When we speak, Chuck Russell is in LA, getting ready for the world premiere of his new film Witchboard. It will be a homecoming in more ways than one; first, since — although it takes place in New Orleans — his supernatural horror was largely shot in Montreal, home to the Fantasia Festival, which is hosting the screening. Next summer will see the release of the new version of I Know What You Did Last Summer. The newest adaptation of the original story from 1973, the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot takes the franchise back to the big screen following an ill-fated TV series adaptation.

Per THR, Sony Pictures has dated the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie for July 18, 2025. The film is directed by Thor: Love and Thunder co-writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) with a screenplay by Leah McKendrick. Its story is based on the original 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. Neil Moritz is serving as a producer on this new adaptation.

It’s almost time for the Fantasia Film Festival! North America’s premiere genre festival has become the place to be if you’re a horror aficionado, and as a proud Montrealer, I get a kick out of the fact that it all takes place in my home city. I’ve been attending the festival for many years, and I always end up seeing some incredible movies. Last year’s Fantasia featured the Canadian premiere of what’s probably the best horror movie of the last year or so – Late Night With The Devil, and this year’s program seems certain to be another winner, with Fantasia announcing the first wave of titles today.
