A remake of the film that turned Jean Claude Van Damme into an action-movie megastar, Kickboxer: Vengeance retreads the story of the brothers Sloan – the only difference here is that the the stakes are higher, the action is more brutal (the glass-on-gloves fight is certainly a Lot more bloody than in the original film) and this time round the bad guy is former WWE man-beast turned actor Dave Bautista and the Muay Thai expert that trains Kurt Sloan to face Tong Po is Van Damme!

Even before Kickboxer: Vengeance hits screens this week, the film’s star, stunt performer turned leading man Alain Moussi is already hard at work filming the third entry in the series, Kickboxer: Retaliation. Vengeance, retaliation… do I see a pattern developing? You might be thinking, isn’t revenge merely a synonym for retaliation? Perhaps we can also look forward to Kickboxer: Reprisal and Kickboxer: Retribution. A sequel of sorts to Kickboxer (1989), the lazily titled new film follows Kurt (the aforementioned Moussi, last seen as Jai Courtney’s stunt double in Suicide Squad) who travels to Thailand to study Muay Thai kickboxing under the cruel tutelage of Tong Po (Dave Bautista). Way back in December, a teaser trailer was released for Kickboxer: Vengeance, and in February, a sequel was announced, entitled Kickboxer Retaliation, which will star Game of Thrones actor Haf&#254&#243r J&#250l&#237us Bj&#246rnsson. We haven't had any updates on Kickboxer: Vengeance since then, but today we have the first full trailer for this remake, which will hit theaters September 2. This trailer also gives us a new look at original Kickboxer star Jean Claude-Van Damme, who makes his return to the franchise

David and Kurt Sloan are the descendants of a well-known Venice, California dynasty of champions. Both are top-notch fighters and athletes in the prime of their lives. When David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong despite Kurt's protests that the man is a crook. An update to the 1989 classic film Kickboxer, Kickboxer: Vengeance follows the story of Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), who travels to Thailand to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of Tong Po (Dave Bautista). Kurt trains with the legendary Master Durand (Jean-Claude Van Damme) until he is ready to take on Tong Po in a brutal fight to the death.

Rlj brokered the deal with Logothetis, Field, Brian O-Shea, and Mike Weber on behalf of the film. Kickboxer: Vengeance will open in theatres and on VOD later this year.

Later this year, the Kickboxer franchise will be brought back to life on the big screen with Kickboxer: Vengeance, which released the first trailer in December although an official release date has not yet been set. While we wait for more details on this action-thriller, ComingSoon.net reports that a sequel is already in the works, entitled Kickboxer Retaliation, with Haf&#254&#243r J&#250l&#237us Bj&#246rnsson, who plays "The Mountain" on Game of Thrones, signing on to be the new villain. Here's what producer Rob Hickman had to say in a statement.

"The response we have garnered for the first film, before its release, has been staggering, and we are excited to continue the franchise with the Mountain himself added to the cast."

Mixed martial arts fighter and actress Gina Carano has signed on to star in the Kickboxer remake. The actress will portray a fight promoter, alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dave Bautista and Alain Moussi. The remake is currently filming in New Orleans.

The story follows Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), a gifted martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn kickboxing secrets to avenge the death of his brother. Dave Bautista is playing the villainous Tong Po, who killed Kurt's brother. Jean-Claude Van Damme, who played Kurt Sloane in the original 1989 film Kickboxer, signed on last week to portray Master Chow, replacing the initially-attached Tony Jaa. The cast also includes Georges St. Pierre, Scott Adkins and Sara Malakul Lane, who is playing Kurt's love interest.

John Stockwell (Turistas) is directing from a screenplay by Dimitri Logothetis and Jim McGrath. Ted Field is producing for Radar Pictures alongside Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi.

Just days after Jean-Claude Van Damme signed on to the Kickboxer remake, the project has found its female lead in Thai supermodel Sara Malakul Lane. The story centers on Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), who travels to Thailand to learn how to become a kickboxer, in order to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of the villainous Tong Po (Dave Bautista). Sara Malakul Lane is playing Sloane's love interest, a detective who is investigating his brother's death.

Ufc welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre also stars, alongside Scott Adkins. Jean-Claude Van Damme is playing Master Chow, replacing the previously-attached Tony Jaa. Jean-Claude Van Damme played Kurt Sloane in the original 1989 martial arts action classic Kickboxer, a role which, along with 1988's Bloodsport, helped launch his acting career.

John Stockwell is directing the film, which stars Dave Bautista, Alain Moussi, and Georges St. Pierre. The story follows Kurt Sloane (Moussi), a man who travels to Thailand and learns how to kickbox in order to face his brother's killer, Tong Po (Bautista). Van Damme starred as Sloane in the original, and is eyeing an updated version of Sloane's teacher, Master Chow. If it's finalized, he will be replacing Tony Jaa who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
