Last month, we got confirmation that a live-action remake of Disney's 2010 animated classic Tangled is officially in development, and the project may have found its villain.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn is being eyed to play Mother Gothel. If the actress - who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the Disney+ series - does land the part, she will likely return to play Gothel in a spin-off focusing on the character.

Though nothing has been confirmed, Disney is believed to be developing a number of baddie-centric live-action projects to tie-in to the planned Villains Land Disneyland attraction. In addition to a Mother Gothel movie, we have heard that Queen of Hearts and Snow Queen films are also in the works, and this is said to be why the Hercules adaptation was repurposed to focus on Hades.

Lionsgate has brought online the new Borderlands trailer, which features more footage from the sci-fi adventure based on the video game series. The film will open in theaters on August 9, 2024.

Cate Blanchett is back in a wig and a franchise, following her iconic “Thor: Ragnarok” campiness. The Oscar winner and “Tár” lead actress transforms into vigilante Lilith for Eli Roth’s star-studded “Borderlands” video-game adaptation.

Blanchett’s character is an infamous outlaw who returns to her home planet of Pandora on a mission to track down the missing daughter of the universe’s top leader, Atlas (Edgar Ramírez). Lilith enlists former elite mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), pre-teen demolitionist Tiny Tina (“Barbie” breakout Ariana Greenblatt), her bodyguard Krieg (Florian Munteanu), mad scientist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), and robot Claptrap (Jack Black) to help.

“These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power,” the synopsis reads. “The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.

Seven months later, Deadpool director Tim Miller had to step in to handle the project’s two weeks of reshoots because Roth had the chance to finally – after seventeen years – make a feature based on the Thanksgiving faux trailer he put together for the Quentin Tarantino / Robert Rodriguez collaboration Grindhouse. Roth’s Thanksgiving slasher is scheduled to reach theatres on November 17, 2023, the Friday before the Thanksgiving holiday. Now Deadline has broken the news that Borderlands will reach theatres about eight months later, on August 2, 2024. So we still have a year to wait before we’ll be able to watch this one.

We had heard that The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin wrote the screenplay for Borderlands, but according to Deadline the final script was actually written by Roth and Joe Crombie.

The scripted pilot based on Jessica Simpson’s bestselling memoir “Open Book” is not moving forward at Amazon Freevee, Variety has confirmed. Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s period comedy “Western” has also been scrapped, though both potential series are now being shopped elsewhere.

The pilot for “Open Book” was ordered by Amazon Freevee back in October, with Tom Kapinos set to write and executive produce and Adam Bernstein on board as a director and executive producer. Katelyn Tarver would play Sadie Sparrow, a young singer based on Simpson, while John Stamos was cast as her older songwriter, Butch. Over time, the two would develop a connection that went beyond music.

Simpson was set to executive produce the project, along with Patrick Moran for his Pkm Productions and Amazon Studios. Lauren Auslander and Lacy Lynch were also on board as executive producers.

Exclusive: Amazon Freevee will not be moving forward with two of its half-hour scripted pilots, Western and Open Book. Both are currently being shopped elsewhere.

Western is a period comedy developed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Sony TV-based Lord Miller. Pen15 co-creator and star Anna Konkle had been tapped to lead the series.

Could “The Baby-Sitters Club” be making a comeback? The series was canceled by Netflix after two seasons earlier this year in March, and talk has swirled since about the series being shopped for a revival — or at least a TV movie — elsewhere.

But now there’s a bit more momentum for the show: “The Baby-Sitters Club” won two awards at the Children & Family Emmys this weekend, for both outstanding writing for a live action preschool or children’s program and outstanding children’s or family viewing series.

For the second week in a row, Luckiest Girl Alive topped the Netflix Top 10 Film Chart globally. The mystery thriller film starring Mila Kunis was the most-watched movie with 57,010,000 hours viewed for the week starting October 10 and ending on October 16.

Hours viewed for the second week were up from its premiere week when it reached 43,080,000 hours, the week of October 3 through October 9.

Luckiest Girl Alive was directed by Mike Barker and it is based on the 2015 Jessica Knoll novel of the same name. The film was produced by Bruna Papandrea and Jeanne Snow for Made Up Stories, Erik Feig and Lucy Kitada for Picturestart and Mila Kunis for Orchard Farm Productions.

For independent producer Papandrea, having Luckiest Girl Alive at the top of the charts in 2022 is quite the feat as she had previously scored major wins with the series Pieces of Her and Anatomy of a Scandal.

The series, which follows the friendship and adventures of seven friends, Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, Mary Anne, Dawn, Jessi, and Mallory, as they start their own babysitting business in Stoneybrook, Connecticut, remains one of the best reviewed series on television, with both of its seasons scoring 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. While developing a fan following, the series have not been able to attract a wide audience; the eight-episode Season 2, released on October 11, failed to crack Nielsen’s Top 10 weekly streaming rankings and only appeared in the Netflix Top 10 for one week at #9.

Lucy Kitada has joined Lord Miller, the production company of Oscar winners Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, as EVP Film. In this new role, she will find, develop and produce film projects, reporting to President of Film Aditya Sood.

Lord Miller also announced today that it has extended the contracts of VP Film Rebecca Karch Tomlinson and VP Film NikkI Baida, promoting Justin Lee to Creative Executive. Veteran entertainment executive Samie Kim Falvey has been named president of Picturestart.

Falvey joins the upstart production company where she will oversee all scripted and unscripted efforts in content across all film, television, audio and print media. She will report directly to Erik Feig, the former co-president of the Lionsgate motion picture group and founder and CEO of Picturestart.

Falvey joins the shop from Imagine Entertainment, where she has served as chairman of television since 2017.
