The drought is over. The skies have opened up and sent bountiful rain in answer to our prayers. By the skies, of course, I mean Lucasfilm and Disney, and by rain, I mean a proper, official trailer for "Andor" season 2. Today is a good day.
More a teaser than a narrative trailer, the 90-second montage features a range of action set pieces, tons of character appearances, a Wachowski-esque dance party, numerous disguises for the eponymous Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and big appearances from "Rogue One" characters like K-2So, Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), and of course, Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker). There are plenty of teases and a lot of explosions, suggesting that this season's 12 episodes may be even more action-packed than season 1.
In the interest of fandom and wild speculation, let's go through some of the more curious moments in the trailer and see what they may tell us about...

After the Harry Potter franchise ended its iconic run in 2011, rumors of a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie began swirling in the muggle world. Unfortunately, with little to no official discussion about the potential film, spotlights shifted to the Harry Potter TV series, that’s currently in development.

Addresing the potential reboot, several actors have revealed if they would return to the Wizarding World franchise. While actors like Tom Felton and Bonnie Wright expressed interest in continuing the Harry Potter franchise, other stars simply turned down the offer. Surprisingly, even Imelda Staunton, who traumatized Potterheads with her villainous depiction of Dolores Umbridge, refused to make a comeback.

Some original live-action Disney movies like Hocus Pocus and Enchanted celebrate classic Disney tropes, providing humor and nostalgia. Movies like Tuck Everlasting and Saving Mr. Banks offer fresh perspectives on beloved stories outside of remakes. Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure showcase Disney's success with original live-action films beyond remakes.
In an age of cinema hugely characterized by all of Disney's live-action remakes, there are several original live-action Disney movies that are better than most of them. The Disney live-action remake trend took off in the mid-2010s, which can be traced back to the success of Cinderella. Maleficent came out earlier, serving as a soft retelling of Sleeping Beauty from its magnificent villainess' perspective. These movies have seen varying levels of success in capturing what made the original a hit while adding something to the story.
There are still plenty of upcoming Disney live-action remakes that will join the ranks of these titles.

Dan Ojari and Mikey Please, the co-writers and co-directors of Aardman Animations’ musical film “Robin Robin,” which premiered on Netflix in November 2021, and was nominated for an Oscar the following year, say that a spinoff is in the cards.
“We are currently working on more stories in the world of ‘Robin, Robin,’” Please tells Variety. “I think that’s all we’re allowed to say. But that would certainly be our hopes and dreams. We feel like there are loads more stories to tell in this world, so we’d love to do more.”
“Robin Robin,” whose voice cast includes Bronte Carmichael, Adeel Akhtar, Gillian Anderson and Richard E. Grant, centers on a robin who is raised by a loving family of burglar mice. As Robin grows up, her differences become more apparent. She sets out to pull off a daring heist in a bid to prove to her family...

Initially written off as just another unnecessary spin-off for an ancillary character from a spin-off from the main film series, "Andor" has instead emerged as one of the most exciting, viscerally thrilling, politically charged additions to the "Star Wars" universe since, well, the very first film. With Tony Gilroy at the helm, the series features an array of new characters, masterful pacing, and a dark oppressive feel that hangs over every episode.
"Andor" has constantly hopped between genres, from a heist film to a prison escape to a rebel uprising. It's been described by some as "Les Misérables in space," not something you would expect from the studio that brought you the often frustratingly simple "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and "The Book of Boba Fett."

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Andor Season 1.Andor has given Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) more focus than ever before as it tells of the rebellion's beginnings. Throughout the season, Mon has worked behind the scenes to fund the rebellion, disguising herself as a loyal, if controversial, senator for the Empire. But her rebellion has created problems for her. For one, her lack of spare time leads to family drama and earns her resentment from her daughter, Leida (Bronte Carmichael). Her family is unaware of her rebel activity because Mon doesn't expect them to agree, so she is constantly living a lie and cannot trust anyone around her. Besides during the occasional visits from her cousin, Vel Sertha (Faye Marsay). Plus, there is the constant threat of spies, meaning more people she cannot trust. Mon admitted early in the season that she felt as if she was being watched,...

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Episodes 1-11 of Andor. One of Andor's many threads is focused on Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and her family. Mon Mothma has made many appearances throughout Star Wars, but this is the first to showcase her relationship with her family and, more specifically, her daughter, Leida Mothma (Bronte Carmichael). In Andor, Leida is a young woman growing up in Coruscant and unimpressed by her mother. Mon's time is divided between the senate and the rebellion, leaving little time for her family, much to Leida's resentment. That and the fact that Mon can't tell her daughter or husband about her work for the rebellion creates a complex family life. While Leida demonstrates many things expected of a teenage girl in this situation, one of the more surprising is her interest in conservative Chandrilan customs. Episode 11, "Daughter of Ferrix", shows Leida embracing Chandrilan traditions in...

This post contains spoilers for "Andor" episode 11.
When it was first revealed that 2015's long-awaited "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" would center on a "not the Galactic Empire" in the form of the First Order, it was hard not to roll one's eyes at the idea. That feeling only intensified when it came to light that the First Order would have its own Death Star-style superweapon in the form of Starkiller Base. Was this really the best premise the movie's creatives could come up with? The Empire all over again, only bigger and more extreme? As though the generation of civilians who grew up hearing stories about Emperor Palpatine's terrible regime would somehow get it in their heads that the real problem with the Empire was that it didn't go far enough. Talk about hack writing, eh?
"Lord, what fools these mortals be," as Puck puts it in William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Andor follows the early days of the rebellion, giving a spotlight to the well-known but rarely in-focus Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly). The show provides the opportunity to explore the Mothma family, including her husband, Perrin Fertha (Alastair Mackenzie), and their daughter, Leida (Bronte Carmichael). Mon and Perrin's marriage seems more political than love, as seen by the fact that they don't get along. And Leida prefers her father to her mother. In Andor, Mon Mothma is the Chandrilan senator, trying to fund the rebellion without raising suspicions. Due to the danger of her work, there are few people she can trust, and her own family isn't included in that group. She fights for the rebel cause alone, knowing that if she slips up, everything could be over before it truly begins. The danger she lives with daily would make anyone stressed, and Mon Mothma is no different. She and her ally,...

Chances are, you landed on this review because you’re trying to game your Oscar pool, looking for a clue as to what will win the always-underseen shorts categories — in a year when they were unceremoniously booted from the telecast, no less. Well, if it’s predictions you’re looking for, there’s little contest among this year’s cartoon contenders: Academy favorite Aardman Animations has delivered a delightful frontrunner in “Robin Robin.” But don’t stop reading there! In an unusually adult-leaning year, the traditionally kid-friendly category is well worth watching in its entirety, whether in theaters or on demand, thanks to stalwart distributor ShortsTV.

The five Oscar-nominated animated pics use many styles and storytelling genres to explore deeper issues. Below is a look into each work of art.

Pet taxidermy. Screw threads. Pickling. These are the delightfully strange obsessions of the family in Joanna Quinn and Les Mill’s short film. Audiences return to the life of Beryl, a middle-age, middle-class female hero who doesn’t hide her quirks and flaws or those of the people she loves. Much of the film is based on the filmmakers’ observations of people in their own lives and themselves. Beryl’s love of drawing is taken from Quinn’s own early passion for art and drawing. Mills often takes ideas for dialogue from conversations he’s heard. Quinn considered going digital for the film but ultimately went back to hand-drawn animation.

Netflix may be leading the pack in overall Oscar nominations this year, but the streamer is outnumbered in at least one category. Netflix’s singular nominee for Best Animated Short represents the category’s most classic contender in “Robin Robin,” a charming tale of difference told with cute fuzzy animals from beloved British animation house Aardman, the four-time Oscar-winning studio behind “Wallace and Gromit.”
While “Robin Robin” is the clear frontrunner this year,, the rest of the category is filled with experimental and challenging fare from around the world.
It may not make the race very interesting, but the viewing is another story.
Playing as if in a different world entirely, the other four contenders feature poignant meditations on love and romance, a whimsical character study of an eccentric artist and her sister’s obsession with taxidermy, and a shocking mini-horror about a secret police agent and her torture dog.

Netflix’s “Robin Robin” uses stop-motion animation and felt figures to tell its charming, musical story of a bird who doesn’t quite belong in a family of stealthy mice and discovers her real place in the world. It’s a Christmas tale that’s also made the Oscar shortlist for animated shorts. Directors-writers Dan Ojari and Mikey Please had been working with each other off and on for about 10 years and formed Parabella Studios, where they began developing “Robin Robin.” A serendipitous meeting with Aardman’s Sarah Cox led them to that legendary studio, which they found to be a perfect match for their own sensibilities. It’s Aardman’s first musical. Film’s voice stars include Bronte Carmichael, Richard E. Grant, Adeel Akhtar and Gillian Anderson.

For Robin Robin, directors Dan Ojari and Mikey Please looked towards animated Christmas specials as inspiration for their musical animated short.
Robin Robin follows Robin (Bronte Carmichael), a young bird raised by a family of mice after her egg rolls into a dump. As she grows up and the differences between her and her family become more apparent, Robin sets off on a heist to prove that she can be just as good of a mouse as them. Richard E. Grant, Gillian Anderson, and Adeel Akhtar also voice characters.
This musical animated short has been shortlisted for the Best Animated Short category at the Oscars. Robin Robin was produced by Aardman Animations and is streaming on Netflix.

This latest short film from Aardman studios is aimed at the sort of very young audience who are charmed by The Gruffalo but its sweet centre might prove a bit sticky for older audiences. We meet Robin (Bronte Carmichael) as an egg that has a mini-adventure even before it hatches and who finds herself taken in by a friendly family of mice.
The mice are expert sneakers, going on nightly forays into homes in the district for crumbs and when we catch up with them a year later, we see that Robin, complete with a pair of self-fashioned mouse ears, also goes a long. The trouble is that Robin is terrible at robbing. She thinks she's being quiet when she's singing at the top of her voice and stumbles through rooms like a bull in a china shop. When a night-time adventure sees her path cross that of a local Magpie (Richard.

“Robin Robin” (Netflix), the first musical from acclaimed stop-motion animation studio Aardman, is an Oscar-contending, 30-minute holiday short about how our differences make us stronger, created and directed by Dan Ojari and Mikey Please (BAFTA winner for “The Eagleman Stag”).
Executive produced by Aardman head of development Sarah Cox, “Robin Robin” features the voice of Bronte Carmichael as Robin, a charmingly awkward bird with an identity crisis, who is adopted into a loving family of burglar mice and plans an ambitious heist to bag the ultimate prize: an entire sandwich. Adeel Akhtar voices the caring but cautious Dad Mouse single-handedly raising a family of five, joined by Richard E. Grant as the obsessive collector Magpie, and Gillian Anderson as the deliciously villainous Cat.

Beloved animated studio Aardman Animation have returned with our first look at Netflix's Robin Robin, a 30-minute stop-motion special that could quite easily become the next Christmas classic. From the makers of Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Chicken Run, and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit as well as the rest of the Wallace and Gromit series, Robin Robin follows a bird raised by mice, who begins to question where she belongs and sets off on a daring journey of self-discovery.
The trailer reveals the kind of achingly adorable, charmingly, simple-yet-beautifully-detailed character design that the accomplished animation studio has become known for, introducing us to some of the movie's core cast of stop-motion animal characters. The movie has also amassed some major names to provide the voices of the various animals, including Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson, Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant, and The Big Sick and Sweet Tooth star Adeel Akhtar.

"Can we keep her?!" Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer for the new stop-motion creation from Aardman Animations called Robin Robin. It will premiere as a "work-in-progress" at the Annecy Film Festival this month, and is scheduled to arrive on Netflix this November. Described as a stop-motion animated "future Christmas classic." Created by its Directors Dan Ojari and Mikey Please, Robin Robin is the endearing story of a robin (voiced by Bronte Carmichael) who is adopted by a family of burglar mice when her egg rolls into a rubbish dump. She sets off on the heist to end all heists to prove to her family that she can be a really good mouse, but ends up discovering who she really is. Both Gillian Anderson & Richard E. Grant are among the voice cast in this charming stop-motion animation about a robin who goes on a journey of self-discovery after being raised by a family of mice.

Disney Plus added a pretty big bulk of content to kick off September last week, but unfortunately, they won’t be following it up with another meaty one, as today only brings us 3 new titles to feast on. That being said, there’s at least one popular movie included that subscribers may want to check out.
To begin with, though, a few of the platform’s ongoing TV series have received new episodes. Those would be Weird But True Episode 305, “Photography” and One Day at Disney Episode 141, “Amanda Lauder: Chef Chocolatier.” Perhaps not the most exciting titles out there, but fans who’ve been following along will no doubt want to catch the latest installments.
As for the aforementioned movie, that’d be 2018’s Christopher Robin, the last cinematic outing for Winnie the Pooh which basically gave the Poohverse the Hook treatment. It stars Ewan McGregor as an all-grown-up Christopher Robin,...

Disney Plus added a pretty sizeable haul to kick off September this past Friday, so that should last you well into next week if you plan on watching it all. In contrast, this coming Friday is set to deliver only a small pile of three fresh titles. Still, there’s one popular movie amongst them that subscribers need to catch once it becomes available on September 11th.
First of all, a couple of the streaming service’s ongoing TV series get new episodes next week – Weird But True Episode 305, “Photography” and One Day at Disney Episode 141, “Amanda Lauder: Chef Chocolatier.” By this point, most of D+’s weekly shows have dried up, but there will be more around next month. Not least The Mandalorian.

Ever since Loggins and Messina tugged on our heartstrings with the wistful ‘70s ballad “House on Pooh Corner”, the notion of saying goodbye to childhood playmates has tinged A.A. Milne’s delightful Winnie the Pooh stories. It was seemingly inevitable that the song would be turned into a story, which more or less explains this summer’s Christopher Robin. The film, out now from Walt Disney Home Entertainment is incredibly predictable but still charming in its own way.
We have an adult Christopher (Ewan McGregor) who has married Evelyn (Hayley Atwell) and they have a daughter Madeline (Bronte Carmichael). However, the joy of childhood is gone in his life, replaced with drudgery, as he has become the London equivalent of the salaryman, working for a gray luggage company with inept management.

Ready to feel like a kid again? In Walt Disney Pictures' Christopher Robin, a now grown-up Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) has long since forgotten his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood—Winnie the Pooh (Jim Cummings) included. Hardened by his father's death and World War II, he settles for a job at Winslow Luggages, where he's tasked with firing 20 percent of the staff to save the company. With the weight of the world on his shoulders, Christopher needs his friends now more than ever—and so do his wife (Hayley Atwell) and daughter (Bronte Carmichael/Else Minell Solak). So, Winnie the Pooh asks Rabbit (Peter Capaldi), Eeyore (Brad Garrett), Piglet (Nick Mohammed), Kanga (Sophie Okonedo) and Roo...

We were charmed and delighted to interview the cast and crew on the red carpet of the UK Premiere of Disney’s Christopher Robin about the boy who inspired A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh stories, held in London on the 5th of August 2018.
The film stars Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Mark Gatiss, Sophie Okonedo and Bronte Carmichael. It is written by Marc Foster, who talks to us about the timelessnessof the stories, as well as being pleased not to be doing World War Z 2. McGregor ponders once more the much-mooted Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone Star Wars film, and given the events of Avengers Infinity War Hayley Atwell muses on the possibility of Agent Peggy Carter turning up in Avengers 4.

Winnie The Pooh is not heading to the Middle Kingdom after Disney’s Christopher Robin was banned in China due to sensitivities between Chinese President Xi Jinping and the honey-loving bear.
Disney’s distribution chief Cathleen Taff, who is Executive Vice President of Theatrical Distribution, Franchise Management and Business & Audience Insights at the Hollywood studio confirmed the ban, according to the Associated Press.
China has been increasingly cautious about Winnie The Pooh in the last few years after it emerged that President Xi was growing sensitive about the similarities between himself and A.A. Milne’s creation. As a result, Pooh has been banned on social media in the country and has become a symbol of political resistance with detractors of the Communist party.
In July, John Oliver, host of HBO’s The Last Week Tonight, was censored in China after a segment pointing out the resemblance. “Apparently, Xi Jinping is...

Fans of A.A. Milne’s delightful stories about an industrious, honey-obsessed bear named Winnie the Pooh and his gang of forest-dwelling droogs — Kanga and her child Roo, pragmatic Rabbit, wise old Owl, anxious Piglet, the emo-dour donkey Eeyore, the manic and possibly Meth-addicted dynamo that is Tigger — may recall that, at the end of The House at Pooh Corner, there’s a farewell party. Christopher Robin, their young human friend, is saying goodbye; he’s heading off to a world far beyond the land of heffalumps and woozles. The scene...

Disney’s “Christopher Robin” will not screen in China, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.
The decision not to screen “Christopher Robin” follows China’s longtime policy of banning references to Winnie the Pooh in its media, including its social media sites, due to comparison’s to the country’s leader Xi Jinping. The ban represents the government’s attempt to stop ridicule of its leader.
In one past example of a joking Winnie the Pooh meme, Xi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe are compared to Pooh and Eeyore after what many observers saw as a disastrous attempt to shake hands in 2014. In another, President Barack Obama is compared to Tigger walking alongside Pooh.
The insider who spoke to TheWrap said China officials did not share a specific reason they kept the movie out of the country.

Disney’s live-action “Christoper Robin” has opened with a respectable $1.5 million in Thursday night preview showings in North America.
Lionsgate’s action-comedy “The Spy Who Dumped Me” took in $950,000 in previews, while Fox’s sci-fier “The Darkest Minds” launched with a quiet $550,000 at 2,575 venues.
The preview number for “Christopher Robin” topped Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” which opened with $1.3 million in Thursday previews and went on to a $33 million opening weekend in March.
“Christopher Robin” is expected to battle the second weekend of Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” for first place as both titles head for Friday-Sunday totals of around $30 million. “The Spy Who Dumped Me” has been pegged to finish in the $10 million to $13 million range.
“Christoper Robin,” based on the characters from A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh books, hopes to draw nostalgia lovers and their children when it opens on 3,602 screens Friday. Ewan McGregor plays...

Disney's Christopher Robin is a tender, beautiful film that will tug at your heartstrings. You might want to bring a hanky. I struggled mightily not to shed any tears during the opening montage. Director Marc Forster brings back the endearing and lovable characters from the 100 acre wood with deft aplomb. While the overall plot of the film is somewhat rote, it packs an emotional punch that's deeply moving. Christopher Robin reminds us of youth's innocence, and the importance of family in difficult times.
Christopher Robin is told like a storybook. The opening is a montage of what happens after young Christopher Robin left home to go to boarding school. These initial scenes are extremely powerful. Christopher faces the ugly realities of life, while Winnie the Pooh (Jim Cummings) and his dear friends soldier on alone. The adult Christopher (Ewan McGregor) meets the beautiful and kind, Evelyn (Hayley Atwell). They start a family,...

Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) with his longtime friend Winnie the Pooh in Disney’s Christopher Robin.
The Winnie the Pooh stories are among the great treasures of childhood but this seeming re-write of the sad life of the real Christopher Robin might unsettle adults who learned the true story of A. A. Milne’s son in last year’s Goodbye Christopher Robin. Ordinarily, a chance to revisit A. A. Milne’s delightful world of the Hundred Acre Wood through film would be most welcome but in light of the sad story revealed in that film, there is something off about the way Disney’s new live-action Christopher Robin goes about that, with a tale in which a grown Christopher Robin reconnects with happy childhood memories of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore and the rest. Goodbye Christopher Robin revealed the much sadder true story of Milne’s son Christopher Robin,...

Chicago – Yeesh. Who woulda thunk that the fine people at Walt Disney Studios would throw the “legend” of Winnie-the-Pooh into a live action “sequel,” with absolutely no life… including the computer generated dead-eyed stuffed machinations of the famous animals. Yet, here we are with “Christopher Robin,” featuring Ewan McGregor in the title role.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
Set after the childhood of the title character, this unnecessary film (at least the way it ended up), explores an adult Christopher being revisited by his stuffed pals as he has forgotten the zen life lessons of being and nothingness that his adventures as a boy with Winnie-the-Pooh gave him. Interestingly – and again unnecessarily – the voice actors imitate the original cartoon voices, to scattered success. One exception was Brad Garrett (“Everybody Loves Raymond” deep-toned brother) who brought blessed humor to Eeyore the Donkey, and I suspect many of his scene stealing lines came out of improvisation...

The latest in a rather long and profitable string of animated properties getting the live action treatment, Christopher Robin opts to do things a little bit differently. Instead of leaning in to the child audience, a good portion of this family film looks to get in good with the parents. The flick may even challenge younger viewers with its meditative pace at first. Nostalgic parents though, they’ll probably dig on it. After all, Winnie the Pooh (and Tigger too) are staples of youth. Opening this weekend, Christopher Robin is the newest and most artful in Disney’s quest to showcase all of their classic properties. This movie looks at title character Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor), who spent his childhood playing with his toys and loving life. Living playthings like Winnie the Pooh (voice of Jim Cummings), Tigger (voice of Cummings as well), Eeyore (voice of Brad Garrett), Piglet (voice...

Did we really need the studio behind the “Star Wars” relaunch to make a movie telling middle-aged men to stay close to their childhood toys? That’s the underlying message of “Christopher Robin,” a partially live-action sequel to the lovely “Winnie the Pooh” cartoons that’s a colossal disappointment on many levels.
It’s a slow, sluggish and whimsy-deficient movie that seems designed to entertain neither children nor adults, and the film’s script opens a Pandora’s Box of a plot twist (more on that in a moment) that that narrative then brushes off. And while many people admitted to weeping from the trailers, the final movie never packs the emotional punch that should be inherent to the material.
What we’re left with is a “Hook”-style mid-life crisis movie aimed at kids, designed to shame parents who spend too much time at the office and not enough with their families.

There’s a scene in “Shadowlands,” the 1993 portrait of novelist C.S. Lewis, in which a young boy is excited to discover the giant wooden wardrobe that inspired “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” He throws open the door and reaches through the coats hoping to find Narnia … only to feel cold, hard wood at the back of the armoire. Disney wouldn’t dare undermine one of its franchises with such a scene, and yet, with “Christopher Robin,” it’s made a movie that feels similarly disenchanting — the latest and least of the studio’s live-action reboots of a widely adored cartoon.
Whereas “Winnie-the-Pooh” author A.A. Milne probably would have approved of the concept behind director Marc Forster’s well-meaning spinoff, it’s hard to imagine him being especially pleased with the result, in which an enchanted reunion between the now-adult title character (Ewan McGregor) and his stuffed bear helps...

“People say nothing is impossible,” muses Winnie the Pooh, “but I do nothing every day.” If only the lovable bear’s latest adventure were more willing to take that wisdom to heart — and if only “Christopher Robin” didn’t have so much in common with its namesake, who desperately needs to do a little bit less.
A clever, hectic chimera that brings your favorite stuffed animals to life in the real world, “Christopher Robin” awkwardly marries the handcrafted feel of A.A. Milne’s stories with the magical-realism of the animated Disney movies they inspired. The results are sweet and dreary in equal measure, like tea and honey on a bleak London day. Director Marc Forster stitches together a lovingly overstuffed comedy that reflects the best and worst of its hero. If the mischievous Peter Pan could find a way to grow up, it only makes sense that the well-mannered Christopher Robin could find one, too. Like Steven Spielberg’s Hook did for Pan, Mark Forster’s Christopher Robin asks what would happen if the human hero of A.A. Milne’s beloved children’s tales grew up and forgot about his times in the 100-Acre Wood. It seems that in both cases, family and fun take the back seat to a dispassionate desk job. But what brings the humbug Robin (Ewan McGregor) back in touch with his younger self is not an old rivalry, but a silly old friend who misses his playmate.
A quick little prologue sees the young Christopher part ways from his stuffed pals. “I’m not going to do nothing anymore,” he tells Winnie the Pooh, who’s famous for doing nothing. But before he goes, he...

After a supercharged few months, the end of popcorn season is approaching.
The domestic box office weekend looks to be a battle between Disney’s “Christoper Robin” and the sophomore frame of Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” as both titles head for three-day totals around $30 million. Newcomer “The Spy Who Dumped Me” is targeting low double-digits.
“Christoper Robin,” Disney’s live-action adaptation based on the characters from Winnie the Pooh, hopes to tap into nostalgia when it opens on 3,500 screens. Ewan McGregor plays an adult version of Winnie the Pooh’s old pal Christopher Robin, who is now a businessman who has lost his sense of imagination. He reunites with his stuffed friends — including Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet — who help him find his way. Marc Forster directed from a screenplay by Alex Ross Perry and Allison Schroeder. Jim Cummings returns to voice Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, while Brad Garrett joins as Eeyore.

After opening at No. 1 to $61 million, “Mission: Impossible — Fallout” will again compete for the top spot on the box office charts this weekend against Disney’s new release “Christopher Robin.” Box office trackers have projected that both films will make between $30 million and $33 million this weekend.
For Disney, this is by far the most modest release on its calendar in a 2018 so far, when it has crushed the competition with some of the most highly anticipated blockbusters of the decade. In the last 153 days, Disney has seen four of its films — “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and most recently “Incredibles 2” — gross more than $1 billion worldwide, with “Infinity War” becoming the first-ever summer $2 billion hit.
