The K-drama genre is one that is typically known for its heart-wrenching romances, but it also offers a wide variety of different shows that don't revolve around the love affairs of the series' protagonists. These dramas sport a variety of different themes, covering everything from thrillers to science fiction and even horror. While some of them might have some romantic element to them, it is never the main focus of the story that the showrunners are trying to tell.

Despite the fact that these shows are often incredibly compelling, they are less often the focus of audiences due to the oversaturation of romance series on the market. The stories are just as compelling, often with more twists and turns and sometimes even supernatural elements than the standard romance allows for. These storylines have made for some of the best K-drama of all time, with some of the greatest characters in the medium.

Jang In Ho found Ho Woo, a lost child who didn’t remember his parents, and made him a part of his family. Ho Woo was raised well and never felt unloved. Numbers began when Ho Woo, a high school kid, decided to become an accountant after In Ho’s tragic death. Ho lost his construction company in a fraudulent takeover and was found dead a few days later. Though it was declared a suicide, Ho Woo later found out that In Ho was murdered. Ho Woo was driven to expose the truth behind In Ho’s death, and in the process, he discovered that Je Kyun, the perpetrator, had done damage to many others. Je Kyun’s son, Seung Jo, was also one of them. Seung Jo and Ho Woo grew closer as they shared the same goal and were later joined by others. All of them worked together to expose Je Kyun.

Previously, in Numbers, Sung Ju acquired the Sanga Group with Je Kyun’s help, but he still held a grudge against Je Kyun. He needed to use someone to get his revenge against Je Kyun, and he found Ho Woo. He spun a tale about the death of Ho Woo’s parents and that Je Kyun was responsible for them. Ho Woo got depressed, but Seung Jo got him to snap out of it as Yeon Ah needed help. Yeon Ah’s father, the president of Jisan Bank, has been facing a crisis as Je Kyun forced the bank to sign a problematic deal. The issue escalated quickly, and the bank was on the brink of being auctioned off. Je Kyun wants to have more power in his hands, and if he gets ownership of Jisan Bank, he will become invincible. He will be able to control the country’s economy,...

Apart from being an accountant in Numbers, Jang Ho Woo has also been acting as a good samaritan. He saved Soma Tech from getting sold off illicitly because In Ho’s downfall had been triggered by the same maneuver. However, Ho Woo hasn’t forgotten about getting his revenge. Despite being a rookie, Ho Woo has become the center of attention, and not everyone appreciates it. He is the first one who openly went against Han Je Kyun, which even his son, Seung Jo, couldn’t do. Ho Woo is not afraid to take risks because things turn out in his favor somehow, as if fate wants him to win this battle against Je Kyun.

The mad scramble by Asian streamers and broadcasters to secure Korean TV drama content continued with the announcement by Viu that it is poised to deliver another original series.

The Hong Kong-based pan-Asian streamer is poised to release period romantic drama “River Where the Moon Rises” on Feb. 15, 2021. In Korea, it will be broadcast by KBS2 from the same date.

“River Where the Moon Rises” is produced by established South Korean production house Victory Contents. The series is directed by Yun Sang Ho will direct from a screenplay by Han Ji Hoon.
